One thing I appreciate was the randomness of Cierra, West, and Max testing Noah's "abilities." At first it came off as filler, but to see the payoff in the end was honestly amazing. The blindfolded dance may not have been crazy impressive, but that plot line is like one of my favorites of the whole season. I just like Noah as a character in all honesty.

    My opinion:
1 (best). Season 1. It seemed very real and Daniel’s injury was very serious compared to Richelle’s and Noah’s injuries. They were in different places yet it seemed to have linked together quite nicely. They had their own roles. It seemed quite natural and the variety of personalities.
    2. Season 3. The dances were amazing since Internationals were amazing and peaked. This time they had alternates (they had alternates before but they left before Nationals) There futures were planned out and it seemed as a family, such as Season 1. It was less unrealistic because MARGIE “disappears” for a Reality DANCE TV show.
    3. Season 2. It really shows everyone’s storyline and it connects well on from the previous season. I liked how we also saw B-Troupe and J-Troupe and also how they did ‘The Challenge’. I especially liked it how they had a whole episode of J-Troupe Auditions. Emily’s injury was, like Daniel’s, very cared for and how she couldn’t dance again. It was slightly unrealistic because when James tries to get Michelle back, he throws a flash mob with many dancers. How could he get many dancers in under a few hours. I did not like Eldon wasn’t dorky.
    4. Season 6. They didn’t do auditions, which I felt was very brave, since they did do auditions in the past. I liked Michelle and Emily’s relationship, Piper’s Anxiety, Noah’s Future, Amy going to AcroNation. They didn’t go to different places, so that’s a con. Heather’s leaving was just there, like it had no explanation. Richelle could’ve just rested for a bit more time because of her Snapping Hip Syndrome. Kenzie and Finn could’ve had a storyline with Richelle as well. It was full of emotion.
    5. Season 5. I didn’t like how some of the dancers were quite immature, like Jacquie. Zara could’ve had a better explanation on how she juggled Math(s). The new storylines were rushed. It’s great how they all merged together but I would like a bit more fun instead of igniting the drama to its peak. Richelle had a storyline, which is INCREDIBLE.
    6. Season 7 (so far). It’s great overall, I liked the dances (so far) but the storylines are kind of cringey like Summer didn’t have the courage to tell Henry he couldn’t pick up the choreography and she turned the lights off to the whole season. I did like Kingston and Lily ship. Amy just appeared in the first episode and it didn’t lead on well from her off season episode. She could’ve auditioned back like the Lily situation.
7 (worst). Season 4. The dances could’ve been better executed but it was unrealistic because James kept going back and forth (Canada to London, London to Canada, Canada to Switzerland, Switzerland to London). It relied on a lot of relationships and the 0% Club didn’t make an impact on me. I think Miss Kate didn’t think how great it would be to make Riley to make Studio Head because she’s never had any experience. And Alfie was a prince? WHAT??

I totally agree that season 1 was the best because I think that in the later seasons, the storylines were a lot more unrealistic and the plot and drama to season 1 was the perfect length. Therefore I think that season 4 was the worst because they dragged out the James, Riley and Alfie storyline out for way to long and the other characters barely had a storyline.

Riley becoming studio head was practically the start of all the problems in Season 4. I didn't mind the Regionals loss, but when it all came down to a really silly and unnecessary decision, it just seemed ridiculous. Also when Kate left in Season 4, she didn't even say goodbye and left Riley to tell everyone. I don't think she even called to try and see how Riley was doing and only returned after the loss occurred. When she returned in Season 5, she just oversaw what Emily and Michelle were doing. She barely did anything for the studio after resigning as studio head.
Here is what she did (or didn't do):
    1. After returning, she created Studio 1 and made Emily studio head and later Michelle for TNS East and West.
    2. She didn't seem concerned that TNS West had no support and was not considered much of a legitimate troupe.
    3. She decided to stop the studio from going to Regionals until the merge between East and West.
    4. She fired Emily and Michelle, although Michelle had no idea about Richelle being injured and hired Miss Angela. She didn't even see how Miss Angela actually treated the A-Troupers.
    5. She rehired Emily and Michelle and gave them an ultimatum about Regionals.
    6. Realising she was not able to maintain the studio anymore she sells it to Nick, effectively renouncing her ties with the studio indefinitely.
    Like if you agree!

The problem I have with Season 5 is that there were 2 unnamed characters on tns west. Briana was just named but she was never called it, Jordan, Tyler and Danielle had one unique scene with the merge and not wanting to be on it and LaTroy left relatively quickly. Briana and the unnamed's needed some plot, Jordan, Tyler and Danielle needed some more scenes. The only season that didn't need to be watched had some of the more forgettable characters. I wish they could have revealed the votes for Dance Captain because that would have been interesting. Lola and Ozzy probably voted for Richelle, Amy and probably Henry voted Piper and Josh and Jacquie voted for Noah (just guessing here). Noah probably didn't win by too many votes and Piper probably came second. Even Elliot had more plot than LaTroy.

    • @tresormuliro8429
      @tresormuliro8429 4 роки тому +8

I agree with the unnamed characters but i disagree with the voting part. Henry was bestfriends with Noah in Season 5 and even though he said to Piper that he had her vote, he legally didnt mean it. And when Emily announced that Noah is the dance captain henry was even shocked and was cheering him on for geting the position. And Amy didnt VOTE at all because in the epsiode she had an audition for the Geminis. and when she returned to the studio, she says "Why is noah taking in charge" and piper said "its because he is the dance captain " and Amy was like " ohhhh" The episode is SEASON 5 EPISODE 16

    • @Jonathan_Burton
      @Jonathan_Burton 4 роки тому +6

@@tresormuliro8429 sorry, I did it off of thought and after I just rewatched the episode I think I have a clear idea of who voted for who.
Amy: didn't vote as she was at Gemini.
Heather: Whilst she was the only one that had no scenes about the vote, it could be presumed either Noah or Piper.
Henry: Whilst he was Piper's vote campaign manager and pointed at Piper, he high-fived Noah so it can be presumed he voted Noah.
Jacquie: She may as well have revealed her vote with her Talking Heads. She voted Noah.
Josh: While he said he would vote Piper, he also high-fived Noah. He voted Noah.
Kingston: He was part of the 5 freestyling. He voted Noah.
Lola: Whilst she was Richelle's campaign manager and looked shocked when she didn't get it, she made a reason for Noah. She voted either Noah or Richelle.
Noah: Probably Piper, as when Henry pointed at Piper, it looked like Noah nodded. He probably voted Piper.
Ozzy: He has a crush on Richelle. Clearly he voted Richelle. He didn't talk with Noah much especially before this happened.
Piper: She might have voted for herself.
      Richelle: She clearly voted herself.
Zara: Part of the freestyling 5, so clearly she voted for Noah.
Presuming that Piper received votes from herself, Noah and Heather, Richelle received votes from herself, Ozzy and maybe Lola and Noah received votes from Josh, Kingston, Henry, Zara and Jacquie would mean that Noah won 5-3-3. This is all speculation but this seems relatively accurate. If you feel differently about aby of the votes, please don't hesitate to reply.

    • @Tricia_Guima
      @Tricia_Guima 2 роки тому +1

@@Jonathan_Burton I agree with your second comment, when Richelle and Piper started making campaign promises (just like those politicians at election time), Noah scolded them both, saying that they were separating the group, that the right thing was to unite the gang and everyone agreed with Noah and that's where he won the vote without knowing it. Now I'm just wondering who Josh voted for, because he was consoling Piper and regretting the fact that she didn't win, I think he must have voted for her, even though Noah and Piper's tie would go, but the rest you quoted ai (Henry, Jacquie, Kingston, Zara) must have voted for Noah, so either Heather voted for Noah or maybe Josh himself, but then felt bad for Piper

I would like to state my opinions in this very comment so that I don't have 1000000000 comments, imao:
    1) I think Max's storyline is that he is quiet and everybody thinks he is missing elite, but actually he's just independent and private, and eventually he blossoms into being friends with some of the boys.
    2) I kinda like that season 2 ended on a bad note because then everybody wanted season 3, and everybody watched it to find out about what happened.
    3) I've never really liked Eldon I don't like his character. He acts really immature and I think that he should have shown some growth, which I didn't see in his character.
    4) I feel like Kenzie is just being used, like her storylines are just being friends with someone, or sharing a storyline with somebody else, and she isn't going to get the opportunities she deserves because of it
    5) Season 5 is really boring, I didn't like it because they could have done much more with it than they did (also it is half the episodes of season 4)

I'm avoiding a long comment this time round - I've been dwelling on the loss of my last one all week. So all I'm going to say is that I agree with pretty much all your opinions, but my personal order would be S2 at the top, then S6, S3, S1, S7, S5 and S4 at the bottom.
This doesn't seem to be a popular opinion, but I loved the character development in S2, I agree wholeheartedly about the continuity and the new characters, and the Nationals episodes are far and away my favourite of the competition episodes (god I hope they make it back, it's looking like they're going to ditch Nationals in S7 and that's the one thing I didn't want them to do) - and S7 and S5 are kind of a tie for me. I liked them both far more often than I disliked them, I’ve loved multiple episodes in both, and I'm hoping S7 will pick up more in the second half - although I've already said that about it once before the main storylines began... We'll see.
At the end of the day I love the show, so any available episodes are a good thing - even if they were released during S4 😂

Season 1, Season 2 and Season 3 were all great seasons. Season 4 had such a good start in the first 4 or something episodes, then it just dropped and became the worst season of all time, it was terrible, the plots were rushed, Alfie probably suffered the worst character derailment in the entirety of the show, even the quality changed. Season 5 was probably the most neutral season out of the lot, the puns were good though. It took me until season 6 to restore my original love for TNS, then a season even worse than season 4, if that was possible, came along. That was season 7. I freaking depise this season for multiple reasons. The toxicity, the constant cutting scenes, the rushed plots, the toxic relationships, Amy can never be single god damn once, what the heck did they do with Pinn too? Yeah. That's it in my opinion. I just hope season 8 isn't as bad, if we get one.

My favourite seasons are 1 and 3. S1 was more of a "mockumentary" type style which I think worked well as the show didn't take itself too seriously, and S3 had some of my favourite dances of the show in the internationals. I think the storylines went a bit out of control eventually, and also have noticed that storylines from earlier seasons have started repeating themselves.

In my option the worst bit about season 2 was that when a troupe found out that Amanda was a double agent and was still at Elite hunter and Emily didn’t get back together and that rlllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllyyyy annoyed me. And I hated that dance battle so much but if the dance battle didn’t happen then idk if Thalia and Eldon would get together. If Eldon and Michelle did break up I wish they had a good reason too and that they would just stay friends. Love ur videos! Ur so good at tns decisions and stoooof. YESSSSSS! This was exactly my order! I really liked season 1 and I think everyone knows that season 4 was just so rubbish and boring.
One thing though I don't know about everyone else but I didn't like that there were 40 episodes in season 4 because it just felt SO long and it lasted for AGES, and then when it came to season 5 there were just half the amount and I felt like 20 was just too short.
The thing is, I don't know how season 7 is going to turn out to be, but I just hope they don't change the whole aspect of the show because of all this dance mania hype and going on TV, like that just does not feel like TNS, and I think everyone REALLY wants A-Troupe to go to Nationals this season, but they really are just focusing on Dance-Mania. However, I've seen the plot line for the next episode (11), and the episode is called 'There can only be one' and it says that A-troupe have to decide which way they want to go. So I think by next week, we should finally know if they're going to compete at Nationals or go on Dance-Mania.
Just one suggestion, could you do a home life video for the characters, so what you think the characters are like in their general home lives.
    Loved this vid! xxx

I agree with all your opinions except for the season 4. I thought season 4 was a brilliant season even though it was mostly about Riley, James and Alfie. Other than that, the dances were amazing and the team was consisted with young talented dancers. The storylines were amazing such as James's sister (Piper ) joining a A-troupe, Skylar joining A-troupe, Sloane and Latroy not able to do contemporary etc. The season even had an Anti Bullying Episode which was really thoughtful because it could help you how to deal with bullying in many different ways. Most of the viewers on The next step are probably still in school and when they saw the Anti Bullying Episode it gave them an idea to deal with bullying or to even stand up to one.

Here goes my ranking, and some reasons for them.
    1. Season 3. This season was just so fun to me. I mentioned it in another comment, but the randomness of the Noah storyline to begin with was kind of weird. Like, who cares that Noah has heightened spatial awareness.....and then the payoff for this was spectacular. I loved how even though he wasn't a main character, he got a really good storyline. The whole thing with James and Riley was decent as well. Just seeing them grow as characters was pretty cool. I think Michelle was great this season too. Like, yeah, she was whiney, but it's kind of understandable. I think that a good number of the dance battles were strategic in who the writers chose. Giselle and Daniel. Tess and Amanda. Riley and James. Noah and Abi. Skylar and Cierra. Eldon and Hunter. These were all great selections in my opinion. Only conine have was the lack of character development from Max.
    2. Season 1. It's what started the show off. I like how every episode really felt relevant to the story. The only episode that maybe felt not as relevant was when they have the little celebration that night a few days before Regionals, but I still felt it served its purpose in showing how far they came as a team. I like the great amount of growth seen in Emily this season. I also like the connection Michelle and Riley shared. It was cool seeing Riley getting caught between the new girl and her sister. Daniel is such a complexcharacter. It's hard for me to make opinions on him. I never really liked him that much, but I think that's just because brenan clost's acting was on point. Some cons I have are that tiffanie seemed kind of irrelevant outside of E Girls. Like she never had a storyline. I also felt like the whole Emily-Michelle-Eldon triangle was dragged on for way too long and it just kept going in Season 2, but we will get there in a moment.
    3. Season 6. This season was different than 4 and 5 for me. Seasons 4 and 5 really took a huge shift from what the show was about in my opinion. Season 6 kind of reinstilled some purpose into the show. I really liked Noah's storylines this season. I actually enjoyed seeing him as dance captain and seeing how that affected his relationship with Jacque at times. I liked the introduction of Jacque's sister. I think Davis was a great addition and I liked her friendship with Kenzie and how it was a focal point in the Kenzie and Jacque storyline. I also liked seeing the growth in Ozzy. I liked him a lot in season 5 and this season just made me like his character more. Also, his friendship with Richelle is great and I hope they become a little bit more. Piper's storyline was good and I love how they developed her relationship with finn over time instead of immediately making her like him. Even though they never actually got together, I gotta say that the dynamic between Henry and amy was fantatsic. I like their parking lot dance to rome and I wish this could've become something more. Acronation was also a nice addition, but I wish they were still around. Some cons I have. Lily was annoying, but a little too annoying. I wish Kenzie got more storyline. I also wish Davis' story could've gotten closure. I wish Noah wouldn't have left, but I can understand. I just really like his character (if you havent guessed yet, he's my favorite character. )
    4. Season 7 (so far). I like what's been happening. I do wish their was more focus on Piper, Finn and Amy outside of the triangle. What I like about this triangle is how they are all friends as opposed to the tension that was felt between emily michelle and eldon back in season 1. Kingston and Lily......just yes. I also we see more of izzy. Ozzy and Heath....I want to see more scenes with them potentially maybe even becoming like good bros, but their dynamic is great nonetheless. I think the show is taking a risk with Cleo and jude, and whether I like the story or not, their risk taking is impressive and I like the inclusion of Jude's dyslexia as a plot point. Can I say, I was first upset with summer being dance captain, but I like the payoff so far. the tension between her and richelle and the rest of the time at this point because of her audition has been great. Also her and henry breaking up...did not see that coming, but it definitely has me wondering what will happen next. Some cons......I cant really think of any except Kingston and lily's indecisiveness. this needs to be better addressed in a conversation between the two of them. Season 7 would be higher, but it's not done so I cant completely judge it.
    5. Season 2. let's get controversial lol. You're probably surprised tos ee how low this season is, but I will explain in a moment. so first, my pros. I like the focus on the J troopers but I feel like they should've capitalized on this even more by eventually have all of those j troopers move up to a troop in maybe season 4, but that's another discussion for a later time. okay, so I liked the introduction of Hunter and what he brought to the table. I liked Amanda's storyline and her helping out in the end of the season. emily and hunters relationship washield of the best tbh. I also liked the risk of removing stephanie and tifdanie from a troop. that was bold. My cons...notice how I didnt have a lot to say about this season. I love hunter, but after just coming off of another love triangle, the live square felt redundant and in the end it broke up Michelle and eldon for no reason the dance battle cool and all, but the payoff wasnt that great. I also got bothered by how long they dragged out Riley and James breakup. Having him kiss Beth was great for shock value, but he should've been honest, let thim go through a.bump, and move forward. Instead we had the whole list thing which at times was satisfying but not enough to keep interested.this is where daniel started to bother me. I really began to just have no respect for his character. Just no. Also, why didnt emily get back together with Hunter after everything with amanda was revealed. Seemed kind of dumb to me. and although I liked the dynamic between Emily and west, it just disappeared and just no.
    6. Season 5. this season was all over the place. at timdish items know what it wanted to be. The focus kept shifting. it felt like a really unnecessary way to show the conflict between emily and michelle. I dont like how after this season we didnt get to see josh, Zara, or lola again. (Okay, Zara's character was dry but still I would've had no problem seeing more). The only good part in my opinion was ozzy. Like that's it really. the conflict between noah and Henry was okay but that's all. I just didnt care much for the season. so that was a combo of pros and cons I guess. also thanks for giving richelle an actual friendonly to take her away.
    7. Season 4. I dont have much to say here that the video didnt cover. I will day I personally liked Amanda and noah although it did more often than not feel awkward and a tad rushed. The season was just weird aand just dragged on and on and on and on and.......yeah you get the point. And alfie....just no.i wish we could've seen him grow in season 5, but nope.
Anyways, I commend you for making it through this lengthy comment.
    Love this video btw lol.

I think I remember in the Off-Season, when Emily said how Amy should've been taken out of the dance, because "everyone knows, you don't mix your personal life with your dance life" or something like that because LaTroy had just broken up with her. I don't think it was very realistic how Amy was - and I quote - "channelling all of her hate and anger into the dance" because that jeopardised the team's chances at winning; so, I think Amy should've been swapped with Michelle and Cassie should've stayed still, because she was still a strong dancer and was generally quite a humble member of the team.
The Final Team for Regionals FInals (Season 4) should've been:
    Alfie
    Henry
    LaTroy
    Noah
    Cassie
    Michelle
    Skylar
    Amanda
    Piper

I'm back now that I finally managed to watch season 7, so here are my opinions:
    1. Season 3 - Amazing dancing, Won internationals, good relationships, little to no drama (and if there was it was realistic and not all romantic based), all dances performed were epic, good storylines, Amanda did not get proper chance though, and Max didn't really interact with everyone, and Lucien being an internationals judge is kinda unrealistic.
    2. Season 6 - Everyone was a family, character development in all characters, all the dances were memorable and superb, emotional to watch, cool, unique storylines (prom, escape room), characters had fun, some immature moments however, and the whole henry, ty, amy, summer love quadrangle was kinda stupid.
    3. Season 2 - So many iconic dances, all of the other troupes were featured well, great relationships and friendships, all the dancers improved vastly since season 1, but some storylines were kind of unrealistic aka the flash mob or the problem with michelle when shopping. i also think the season was dragged out for too long.
    4. Season 1 - Good storylines, it was actually realistic (school exists, they have life outside of dance), scenes outside of the studio, some romance but not too much, dancing wasn't as great as other seasons, and there weren't many other dances apart from groups (few solos, duets and i'm pretty sure there weren't any trios).
    5. Season 5 - Great dancing, richelle finally got a freaking proper friendship, wasn't too romance oriented, merging of troupes created a family, starting her own troupe was a bit petty of michelle, idk why emily would not let hip hop dancers audition, the whole storyline was too based around the opposing troupes
    6. Season 4 - They actually had really good dances, good relationships mostly, but it was kind of seperated (aka zero percent club, previous internationals dances, they kept relying on the previous troupe to keep the story going, all the ralfie and jiley drama was honestly too much, and who the heck can just fly out to london and leave the team at 18 while trying to run their own dance studio.
    7. Season 7 - Glad richelle finally got some recognition, but they chose a really bad way to display that, pinn happened, but through a terrible storyline, characters just seemed really immature (slamming the door in richelle's face, the sulking in the audience), kenzie was basically completely ignored, character development from last season completely was thrown out the window, too romance oriented, and a troupe had to choreograph for themselves like what happened to ms angela?

Season 7 is by far my least favourite. They recycled old character plots from early seasons, Summer is unlikable and annoying, most characters have no screentime nor plot, nick has way too much screentime, I wish a-troupe were going to nationals not dance mania, summer expects to constantly be given everything and I hate it when they have characters leave and don’t come up with an explanation eg when Richelle wasn’t there or Where Emily has gone. I know the actors and and actresses get busy but come up with an explanation, don’t just disregard their whole existence.

I just realised that every other seas9n (1,3,5,7) there is like a fight between who is going to reionals/nationals/internationals. In s1 it is either "Emily's troup" or "Michelle's troup" going to regionals. In s3 it is either Lucien and Elite or Miss Kate and tns. In s5 it was tns east or tns west and in s7 it was B troup or A troup. Random but just wanted to point it out.

I feel like if the writers were unsure about keeping the interest of the audience from the old seasons to the new seasons, instead of trying to keep the old a-troupers around and involved, they should have kept some of the old characters that were showcased in the episodes previously like gabi and becca. (I found it really disappointing having Gabi and becca very briefly shown if the auditions of season 4 and not acknowledged even briefly), jake (from b-troup, maybe some of the elite members that joined b troup. I know that directors and producers like to bring new cast and characters in some cases for shows to progress but I feel like it wasn’t executed in season 4 as it was in season 2 or 3 as mentioned. I think audiences would be interested in seeing original tns characters grow further, instead of a brand new lot and desperately trying to keep them interesting. But idk. (Me personally) sorry for my rant 💙💙

the reason Jake and some of the B team and also Nick (Elite dancer) didn't get in, is because the actors were already old (they were the same age if not older, from the original Troupe), they were just there, only people competing. Now Gabi, Becca and Tyle deserved to join the A-Troupe because they were the same age as Noah and Richelle. Tyle (who has been in since season 3) joined the A-Troupe in season 5, just to make an appearance poor thing, if he had joined as the main character in Josh's place, he and Piper could have become a couple and they wouldn't have had to put Finn, who only joined to replace Josh

For me s1 is the gold standard, the Grand Poobaah. Everything came together in a unique synergy; the characters, the songs, the story lines, the tension, the dances, the realistic innocence of the acting and "scripts", the locations, the opponents, the lack of the silliness that became very much part of future seasons. Sometimes, these things just work and they reach deeply in ways that weren't particularly intended at the outset. Not all TV shows start strong but s1 is without a doubt, the measuring stick when it comes to "The Next Step." Many show's first seasons don't have to be.
I think it was a fluke and I also think it took the show's creators by surprise which is possibly why the next couple of seasons seemed to me to be such a struggle. Getting to the top is the easier part. Staying there and getting further is another matter altogether.
Naturally, it's not without its flaws ~ a couple of the latter episodes seriously flag {the stay late get together and the costume episode are particular guilty parties here} and there's some character inconsistency in Michelle that borders on the incredulous. Yet even those flagging episodes have some heavyweight scenes that are among the top echelon of TNS scenes. For me, there isn't a single episode in s1 that is unwatchable even if there are parts that I wouldn't cry for if I never saw them again. None of its flaws are deal breakers for me. Unlike later on, the comedy isn't forced. It feels natural and actually may not even be intentional comedy at all.
What s1 has in spades and droves is balance. In a way, it had to. After all, it was moving along the road less travelled. It became the template and the challenge was always going to be to both top it and develop/progress. I am a big fan of the show still but in my book, it's certainly never topped the first season. On the other hand, it has, for the most part, continued to develop and progress despite some sizeable hiccups along the way. TNS has moved further and further away from its original premise as a reality TV styled show and whether that has been a good thing or a bad thing is open to debate. In s1 the aping of reality TV is at least convincing ~ I originally didn't have any interest in the show because I thought it _was_ a reality TV show and most reality TV bores me to the extent I avoid it like a wild eyed pit bull.
It is also the season that integrates dance and drama better than any other and I say that as someone that isn't particularly a fan of dance. TNS ultimately moved in the direction of separation, you had the drama bits, you had the dance bits. But in s1, pretty much every dance that appears, right from the first episode, is more than just a dance ~ it's a vital part of the story. When I watch just about any other dance from any other season, I can appreciate it for what it is and it exists independently, stands on its own. The s1 dances cannot do that for me. They are _so_ integral to what is going on in the story at that moment and beyond, that isolating them as a UA-cam or Hulu video simply has me recalling their context and wanting to watch s1 all over again ! They are quite literally scenes from the show.
The songs that were created for that first season just hit me left, right and centre, under, over sideways and down. There are a few films with songs that have done that to me in my life but the last was so long ago, I never thought such a thing would happen to me again. But the quality of the songs is insane. "Turn me around," "Feel the fire," "Made it go," "Can't get you outta my head," "We go," "Addicted 2U," "We do it big," "Inside out" and "More than that" are such a blast and a bit like the dances, encapsulate the scenes they appear in. I can't hear "We go" without seeing Riley slip her hand into James' on the bus, or "We do it big" without seeing Seeds wiggling about and TNS trying to match them or "Inside out" without seeing the intensity of Michelle and Eldon's duet rehearsals and Michelle flying through the air and Eldon catching her or "Addicted 2U" without being swept up in the demise of Emily's regime or "Made it go" without seeing Daniel practice his moves or "Can't get you out of my head" without seeing Eldon vault over Emily on their 3½ shake date....Unlike the dances however, the songs do stand alone as independent entities and are wicked songs, brilliantly written and executed, even though they always call to mind the scenes they were in. Many of them also gave rise to great alternative versions that get used as incidental music in different scenes down the years.
S1 also fully realized every A troupe character {their characters were pretty well pegged out by the time they arrived at regionals} and each one got significant screen time. I don't think this happened again until s4.
All in all, it's my favourite season and in my mind, is going to take some beating, if it ever does actually get beaten.

I feel like season 4s only substance was the Ralfie/jiley drama. If you take that away nothing really stands out about the season, the relationships were poor (Noah and Amanda felt very weird to me because if you think back to season 2 and how they both looked. I'm just going to leave you with that) Honestly I think too many key characters were taken out from season 3, it should have been more staggered so we still felt a connection and an ongoing family feel to the team despite having some new members we could still have familiar faces and once the other characters gradually left we still could feel a strong connection with the team as we would have gotten to know them the previous season. On the other hand one thing I did like was the fact TNS lost regionals because I feel like that is very realistic considering Riley paid absolutely no attention to the team and it would be ridiculous for them to win every competition. Losing is a big part of dance and it can't be helped. Also wtf were the writers thinking making Alfie a prince. Surely someone must have recognised him. Think about the British royal family; it doesn't matter if you are a brit or not everyone still knows what they look like. If prince Charles was suddenly a teacher at your school its hardly as if he would go unnoticed.

the Noah and Amanda thing wouldn't have even been bad if the ages of the characters weren't so inconsistent. Amanda is supposed to be the same age as the S1 A-troupers (she dated James too) while Noah was labelled to be much younger. His physical appearance changing isn't a problem since in real life the actors are only one month apart in their age. It's just weird because they labelled Noah as being a lot younger than Amanda, but then for some reason in S4, he's the same age as her. Which would make him the same age or OLDER than Riley. And since he only turned 18 in I think Season 6, how did Riley become studio head at 17 years old in S4? None of it adds up.

    Season 2
I don't think I have ever looked forward to a season of a telly show more than I did TNS season 2. As a show, s1 had just taken our household by storm from when we discovered it in the summer of 2014 on holiday in Holland. I'd even bought the DVD boxed set and watched the final episodes before they aired on the BBC and actually did a marathon watching every episode of s1 in a single viewing. Did so much reading up and couldn't wait for it.
And wow, it started with a fizz and a bang and a half and then some ! The Next Step plane was ascending higher and higher with potentially great writing and ideas which could have overhauled s1, Zoltan and his manservant notwithstanding. New or previously very minor characters {Beth, Hunter, Thalia, Phoebe, Noah, Richelle, some of the J-troupers} were phased in, old faves {like Chris, Tiffany and Stephanie} were phased out and the idea to freshen up the cast though disappointing from a fan fave point of view, was a good and quite gutsy one.....if it worked. There really are some great ideas and brilliant execution of scenes in parts of the season...............but they are comparatively few and far between after the scenes in which Daniel leaves.
I don't know what happened but the rest of the season after around episode 11 was like watching a plane struggling to maintain altitude then nosediving into a crash land situation. The great parts were suffocated and soaked up by the lame parts. And like an album that has 3 masterpieces on it but 7 clunkers, unfortunately, the clunkers are what the album will be remembered for. Either that or the album will be only thought of as an artifact with 3 great songs and listeners in denial.
There are so many mis-steps in season 2, where does one begin ? James' driving instructor ? The beginning of Riley's demise ? The "Emily outs the double agent" story line ? The virtual anonymity of Thalia ? The overwhelming underuse of Phoebe ? The speed with which Michelle leaves the studio ? The West/Giselle axis that just does not work ? The James tests ? The Hunter cake ? The flash mob ? West pretending to be a big star at Nationals ?
    Gluuuurrrrp !
And talk about black holes, where was the conclusion of any of the J troupe mentoring ? Or Emily explaining to Hunter why she dumped him in the aftermath of Amanda leaving ? Come to think of it, why didn't she rekindle their "ossom" flame ?
It speaks volumes that Beth is probably the season's most consistent character. But I found it a very disappointing season and a big surprise was how poorly integrated the dancing overall was until Nationals.
S2 does end strongly, with intrigue and mystery, but the strength of the ending couldn't cover up much of what had previously been shown.
But there was worse to come.

Yes!!! I've been looking forward to this video for ages!!! I agree with most of your opinions (as usual) and here is my own ranking, from best to worst:
1 - Season 3. My favourite season! I love the dances in this season and how mature the dancers were. I loved the storylines, especially the Internationals episodes, and every episode had some significance, like you said. However, there are some things I don't like about this season, such as Max having literally no storyline, James leaving and then coming back, and some characters being a bit annoying.
    2. Season 6. I loved this season! There were a lot of new things, like the prom, the convention, the escape room and Regionals being a lot different than just performing a group dance 5 times. I love everyone's outfits and I really enjoyed the characters. The relationships were great, except for Richelliot and Tamy (Amy and Ty). I'm a bit sad that Henry and Amy decided not to be a couple and Jacquie and Noah broke up, but that's it. Michelle and Emily's scenes were hilarious and the Nochelle episode makes me cry every time I watch it! Also the dances this season were very enjoyable.
    3. Season 2. This season was great! I think the length was perfect and we had lots of funny scenes, like the one with Zoltan and Minnow and the one with Luther Brown. I enjoyed the storylines and Nationals was really cool! The bit about Emily hurting her knee was unexpected (in a good way) and I love the characters. However, I don't like how Michelle and Emily didn't audition for A-Troupe and also the Michelle-Hunter-Emily-Eldon quadrangle soap-opera got very irritating.
    4. Season 1. This season was really good! I liked how the characters were younger and were doing pretty relatable teenage stuff. The Michelle and Emily rivalry was fun to watch but I was so happy when they became friends and then Emily hated her again in the last episode, so I feel like all the build-up was a waste of 30 episodes. I love Jiley and Regionals, and all the storylines were great. Some of my favourites were West and Seeds, Chloe and her money problems and James and his math, although it was a bit unrealistic that he didn't know the volume of a cube that's 2 by 2 by 2 and he's in, what, 10th grade? Also, the part where Emily made her dancers stay till past 12 was completely ridiculous and probably illegal. Some of the scenes were very cringy.
    5. Season 5. This season was decent. It was a bit short but I enjoyed some of the characters and the TNS West and TNS East thing was mildly interesting, but I found it a bit stupid and boring sometimes. Also, I didn't like some of the characters like Josh, Daniel and Emily. Jacquie was a bit dramatic sometimes, but I think she's a great dancer and I like her outfits. Jacquie and Noah's relationship was also a bit unrealistic because of how quickly they got together and I feel like they fought a lot. I didn't like how they didn't go to a competition this season, but the Regionals video was amazing! Also, I felt very sad for Piper when Josh rejected her 😥
    6. Season 7. I can't judge this season too much, because it's not even halfway through yet but I haven't enjoyed it too much. Episode 1, 2 and 5 were great, but the rest aren't that good and I don't enjoy rewatching this season. I feel like the characters I don't like or I'm getting sick of get lots of screen time (e.g. Summer, Cleo, Nick), and I'm not seeing the people I want to see enough. Also, I found Episode 7 very cringy and I hate that Finn and Amy are together now, but I'm interested to see where it goes. I just don't want Piper's heart to get broken! Also, I'm getting very sick of Summer and I thought it was a bit stupid that she and Henry broke up. I think they just needed to sort things out, but hey, maybe they just weren't meant to be. However, I loved the dances and Michelle's exit and Piper with her hair down 😍
    7. Season 4. I'm sure you already knew this was coming, but I hate this season. It's fun to rewatch (which is why I had a hard time deciding whether I wanted it above Season 7 or not, please don't hate me) but I'm trying to rank these seasons on how good they are, not just my opinion. Some things I enjoyed are the OGs leaving (even though it's sad), James, Eldon and West, Michelle's growth and development (however she talked about herself so much that I got very bored of her) and the new characters. However, I have a lot of cons. Noah and Amanda's relationship was a bit cringy but they are a cute couple, Riley being studio head for whatever reason, Riley's outfits, Riley and Alfie's relationship, Alfie in general, the Zero Percent Club, the Regionals loss, the length of the season and some of the characters (Sloane, Latroy, Cassie, Alfie, Skylar and Riley).
If you read this all, then I just want to say thanks! I tend to go over the top when I'm saying my opinions about a TV show 😂 Anyway, I really enjoyed this video Alishea! Thanks for making my Sunday again! 💖💖

    Personally, I'd rank it:
    1. Season 2
    2. Season 1
    3. Season 6
    4. Season 3
    5. Season 4
    6. Season 7
    7. Season 5
Other than how some seasons switch places from time to time depending on how I feel , I currently agree with this placement. I think that all of the seasons had at least a few good moments and all had some sort of entertainment value. The reason 4 is not last is because I found all of the characters dance styles refreshing in that season refreshing and just found the cast change in general a nice touch. I could elaborate more on my rankings if anyone wants I just don't want to write a full on essay lol.

S6 was actually pretty good. It sort of goes with s5 to make up one super long story so it was a bit disconcerting to have no drawn out scenes explaining the departures of Josh {who was becoming quite interesting}, Zara {who was just starting to come into her own} and Lola {which was potentially a great loss as she'd become a heavyweight character}. I've no idea if there was any off season stuff involving the sacking of Emily and Michelle so it was a bit daft seeing them together working in the juice bar. Their sacking was down to Emily's dishonesty with Michelle in a] not telling her what Daniel suspected about Richelle's snapping hips & b] not absolving her of any responsibility to Miss Kate {Michelle didn't even know !} so I'd have thought the last person Michelle would want to work with would be Emily and the last place she'd want to work would be in the same building she's just been fired in, seeing all the dancers a few times each day, bumping into Miss Kate !
I also thought the plot to get rid of Miss Angela was so far fetched and rather stretched credulity. I understand that it was necessary to bring back Emily & Michelle but it was poor execution and lacking in realism. The way that whole episode was handled summed up some of the worst aspects of TNS for me. I think there are creatively entertaining ways to bring about certain happenings in films/shows/plays but it feels like too much of the time directors and writers take the easy path that has apparent short term gains but in the long run poses more problems than it solves. Very little about the first season was actually unrealistic. Every subsequent season at times struggled with reality. Which is a problem both in drama and reality TV styled drama.
There were other flaws with the season but to be honest, there hasn't been a flawless one and when set alongside what was good about s6, the flaws are actually few and far between, even if they are big ones. Some of the newcomers like Summer, Kenzie, Davis, Ms Angela and Lily were welcome additions and I thought the story lines, for the most part, were incisive and brought up really good talking points, for example, was Ms Angela wrong in her "winners" approach ? Was Ozzy out of order to have deliberately flouted Kingston's privacy and read letters addressed to Kingston's mum ? Was Chloe right in her summation of Richelle's talents being overshadowed by her lack of emotion and connection as a dancer ? Was Elliot right to break up with Richelle ? Should Jacquie have helped Davis ? Should Piper have let her guard down with Finn when she clearly liked him and could see her liked her ? Should Emily & Kate have conspired to get rid of AcroNation under the pretext of them being a rival studio ? Should Michelle have gone along with it ? Should Eldon have made an issue about stealing choreo given that Emily and Michelle were his friends ? Should Amy have left TNS or just knuckled down to be a member of the team ? Should Amy and Henry have just talked to each other about their feelings ? Should Jacquie have felt that her worth to Noah was tied up in her status as a dancer ? Should the idea of a promposal be outlawed by the Canadian govt ?
    Questions, questions !
I thought Noah was shown in an interesting light. He showed some real strength in the way he played being DC. He dealt with Jacquie as a team member not his girlfriend, he helped Piper and Ozzy with their weak areas, which, while not being the domain of only the DC, was good leading by example. But he lost it and succumbed to the pressure in the lead up to regionals which would be disturbing on any level and he gave away his captaincy to Lily in a way that put the team at risk which could have been devastating. And for the record, I thought that the decision to remove him from the team because of him reaching 18 was the right one although paradoxically it was also the right one to bring him back and work that much harder as the team would be in the higher age category. That didn't stop them imploding, though !
Up until the last few episodes of s4, Noah had always really irritated me and I wouldn't have cried if the show had junked him at that point but I have to say that the last few episodes of that season plus him in 5 & 6 {for the most part}, he won me over. His dancing was always good and never did a thing for me ~ it's as a character that he hit paydirt.
I disliked Ozzy even more throughout most of s6 but he started to put in a good shift as a character in the latter half and few things have given me as good a laugh as when he leapfrogged over Kingston when they were at war.
I've always been a fan of the Richelle character. She irritates the life out of me and I find her hateful in many ways and arrogantly soulless. That's why I like her; she has long provided that important _other side_ which gives the show balance and gets the emotions stirred up {she's that person you want to throw things through the screen at !} and I think she was pretty much at her best in seasons 5&6. She's actually one of the few characters that has put in a good shift on the show, season after season, even in the hard times when TNS was veering off the rails.
While it felt like some story lines were being recycled {we'd already had 2 instances of a dancer dancing for both teams in the same competition, for example}, truth is that you _do_ get the same kind of happenings cropping up repeatedly both with teens and with teams, so I didn't really have a problem with that. Many that have been teenagers or worked around them or had teenage kids will often catch that sense of deja vu~ it goes with the territory.
The twist in the tale at the end of regionals was a good one and all in all, s6 ranks as a good one for me. If I had to put the first six seasons in my order of preference it would go 1, 4, 6, 5, 2 and then 3. 1 is the clear winner, 4 comes in a highly rated 2nd. 6 and 5 in many ways are interchangeable but 6 edges it only just {though that could change at any given moment} because overall, its characters are slightly stronger {despite the high quality of Lola & Elliot} and Michelle manages the amazing feat of 6 strong and compelling seasons on the bounce as a character. 2 is the biggest disappointment for me but not the least ranked, 3 remains a poorly cooked omelette. I'd struggle to fill an hour long show with its truly legendary parts ~ although they are definitely there.

I actually liked Heather in season 5, because besides being a great dancer, she had a proper storyline and it developed piper character a little bit more 💜
