Back in the day we went a little airborne too. Some of us even threw up it was great. I hope they can make it safe like it was back then. It is one of my great childhood memories.
There used to be a yellow plastic covering on it that produced some friction and kept speeds under control. They took it off years ago and now it's too fast.
*MAN I'M FINNA DIE* !! We need T-shirts!! We need a Remix!! Hottest new Phrase Out there Right now - she's the next *IT* Girl!! and She survived that Slide!! Glory Be!! and little brother - *Gravity Hurts!* - We need a world tour! they need social media accounts, a manager, Good Morning America, the Today Show - Hurry! - I'm ready to do their PR !! these kids are adorable and dad is super cool also! - Seriously, hope no one got injured on the slide and hope they get it all resolved asap, before anyone gets hurt.
Like all newbies, and after one ride, the kids just haven't yet learned how to make use of their newfound air time to their advantage . . . they need more practice. Watch a few arenacross dirt bike races to see how they handle those. 😎
Ouch! What surprises me is that this passed the design phase. An engineer would need to run an analysis on this, and it was likely signed off by a licensed Engineer. I suspect the fur is flying at the firm that designed and built this!
In July a photo of the slide was posted on Facebook with the caption "Remember this?". I wonder if someone from the DNR also saw the post. A tiny part of me thought "that looks like fun" but most of those who rode it didn't think so. Quoting Three Dog Night;"THIS ain't the way to have fun (son)" lol🙃
Did they oil it or change the height or something over the winter because this slide been on Belle Isle for over 30 years and kids never shot off to the moon like this. Somebody had to have the bright idea of putting something on it to make it faster than what it was before. ......GRIM
Mann why aren't nobody showings them how to do this cause we use to have to lean forward hold on tight. Why not put the yellow rubber back on and change the shacks. I went down this thing two years ago and was find but I also remembered how to do down never lean back hold on for dear life. It has always been fast you will always fly and if you didn't get a bruise coming down you do it again. I use to ride this is the 90s until they closed it in the 2000s.
Omg I remember years ago I airborne just like this on this giant slide. This is not the same slide from when I was a kid. I’m Glad this is being address I was bruised and scared on the new giant slide. Poor kids I’m glad their ok
This is like when I was a kid and you got the swing going as high as you could, then launched yourself into the air. For a second, you were flying. It did hurt a little when you landed. Gravity does hurts worse, the older you get
You're suppose to lean forward. No one is leaning forward... They typically instruct you to how to put on the sack, hold on to the sack, and lean forward.
That’s how it’s supposed to work 🤷🏾♂️ I'm happy people didn't have camera phones when I was a child or else I never would've gotten to experience the joy of The Giant Slide.
You could wear some protective gears like gloves, knee and elbow pads, helmets to prevent head injury. Every years thousands die in car accidents but no one complain about that. 😡
And a helmet is needed too and it looks to be metal, even aluminium can get hot enough to burn or blister the skin, " that's one killer slide " for sure.
These kids today are like cotton balls I have fun doing this a little Airborne but I loved every minute of it hey anybody remember the ride at the park where three or four you got on and you took it and you spun it around and two got dizzy I had fun with that too and another remember to swing you swing and he started swinging so high and then when you got high enough you jumped off that was fun too.
The slide works as intended. The children should be sitting on top of the sack and not in it. They also should be leaning forward clutching the sack at all times. Back when I was a child all this was explained to me by the people running the slide. If a person follows these directions then they will be fine. Going airborne was the desired result of going on the slide when I was a child. We knew how to handle that because we had been instructed properly to handle that and not fall off the sack. When I rode the slide as a child there was no yellow plastic covering on it. This was the ultimate fun on that Island when I was a kid. Adults and children now a days are too soft and do not listen to instructions and they most certainly do not take the time to think about how to do things in such a way in order to minimize risk. Back in the day the Island had a gigantic wooden playground that in fact was dangerous, if you did not think about what you were doing. We used to be instructed by our parents how to handle such playgrounds to minimize the possibility of getting hurt. That playground was so much fun. You will never see anything like it again. We had to learn how to not injure our selves by listening, observing and thinking about the environment in which we played. Playgrounds suck now in comparison.
Didn't Kwame rebuild it? Couple that cheap labor and materials with the cheap sacks they're in and there you have it. He did The D so dirty!!! The Giant Slide was not an airborne maker when I was a kid.
“Gravity hurts” kids are so honest/simple sometimes lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. He was soooooo cute. In an Urkelian type of way. Sis said I'm finna die.
Lol kids are dumb ,gravity is whats keeping me from floating off into space
It's like some real life Simpsons shit 🤣
Less is more
“Man, I’m finna die.” - Little girl on Giant Slide ‘22

"The Feel Like I'm Finna Die Blues"
Gravity hurts. That's a wise kid right there.
That is the best comment ever!

LMFAOOO
Those two kids were hilarious, I'm glad they didn't get hurt!
The kids are so cute🥰 I’m glad they weren’t hurt. Thanks for giving others the heads up about the slide, nobody wants their little ones hurt.
"GRAVITY HURTS"
I'd definitely buy that t-shirt.
that was the coolest kid I've seen lately.
*they were all adorable
The 2 little ones looks so huggable. The 2 oldest siblings said watch us it is not that bad. Heads snapping bad, but bones hitting pay dirt.
“Gravity hurts” I feel this in my soul man
Every kid watching this wishes he was there
He? Is it for boys only?😝
"Gravity hurts"
🤣🤣🤣🤣
👍👍👍👍
Back in the day we went a little airborne too. Some of us even threw up it was great. I hope they can make it safe like it was back then. It is one of my great childhood memories.
“Man, gravity hurts”. I’m still In tears 😂🤣..
I love that child..."Gravity Hurts"...you are so correct!
There used to be a yellow plastic covering on it that produced some friction and kept speeds under control. They took it off years ago and now it's too fast.
It does look like it is incomplete, I think you are right they ditched to plastic covering.
You're right!! I don't EVER remember going airborne on that slide.
That slide has been like that forever. Only thing u really have to worry about is the burn. Stay on the rug!
Exactly, everybody's becoming drama queens
@Craig Brown I’m curious what playground is more dangerous?
@@sunnyhippiesmusic the Ford Wyoming drive in playground, in Dearborn. Lmao 🤣 🤣 🤣
Kid: "Gravity Hurts" - 😂
These kids are so smart and cute. Good job parents 👏🏽💯
Yea man I funna die
Giant slide vs Everybody 😂😂😂

This comment is everything! Make a t shirt! 😆
@@calenajackson8772 they aren’t even riding it how we used to! 😂😂😂
I remember flying all over that thing growing up. Had so many burns 😂
Skin was missing from my elbows and my knee caps 😂. I never got on it again
Everyone wants wrap kids in bubble wrap out of fear of getting sued. Let them play.
Y’all calling these kids soft but their heads were literally banging against the metal as they came down rough.
I hope they got the kids evaluated by a MD.

Kenyatta:decides slide is to dangerous for his kids
Also Kenyatta:decides to give his extra tickets to another parent for there kids.
This slide has been this way since I was a kid and before. Let them kids bounce 🤣
💯🔥🔥
"gravity hurt's" lol, that kid is awesome
1:08 "gravity hurts" lmao. Poor Lil fella
The way they just fling through the air is hilarious
Man, we can't have shit in Detroit.
We'll you can't change some things to much. The Giant slide is yellow. And also. You sit on top of the potato sack. Not whit you legs inside of it😒😟
The slide is a "Rite of Passage" . All Detroit kids are obligated go ride it, at least once in their life !
I remember this slide from when I was a child. It was scary but fun. Good times .
🤣 both of their responses were too funny 😂
Like all newbies, and after one ride, the kids just haven't yet learned how to make use of their newfound air time to their advantage . . . they need more practice. Watch a few arenacross dirt bike races to see how they handle those. 😎

Grand opening…grand closing! It’s unsafe, those slide burns last a lifetime I am Detroit born and raised.
In July a photo of the slide was posted on Facebook with the caption "Remember this?".

A tiny part of me thought "that looks like fun" but most of those who rode it didn't think so.
Quoting Three Dog Night;"THIS ain't the way to have fun (son)" lol🙃
There should be a weight maximum. I remember flying on that slide as a youngster, but you should be at least 100 pounds to even get on it.
I can't believe this is real and that this was ever OK. "Gravity hurts" was legitimately the funniest sht ever. I'm still dying typing this.
Did they oil it or change the height or something over the winter because this slide been on Belle Isle for over 30 years and kids never shot off to the moon like this. Somebody had to have the bright idea of putting something on it to make it faster than what it was before. ......GRIM
Tim Taylor and Binford Slick 1000. 27 coats, buffed for a week.

“Man, I’m fittin to die”
Golden!
Mayn, I'm finna die had me screaming 🤣🤣😭🤣
Oh no! I hope this is corrected . I use to love the giant slide at Belle Isle growing up.
Seems like something that would've happened at Action Park in NJ if they had a slide like this while it was still operating...!
That slide fucked me up when I was a kid.
Omg I remember years ago I airborne just like this on this giant slide. This is not the same slide from when I was a kid. I’m
Glad this is being address I was bruised and scared on the new giant slide. Poor kids I’m glad their ok
They need to the old sacks we use to have back in the day.
That looks fun af
This is like when I was a kid and you got the swing going as high as you could, then launched yourself into the air. For a second, you were flying. It did hurt a little when you landed. Gravity does hurts worse, the older you get

Why wasn’t slide tested before opening… huh? Where were safety measures before opening?….Could have been head injuries very dangerous…🤨
It use to be yellow and plastic so the impact when you landed on the slopes wasn’t that bad, now it looks dangerous
"cleanup?" are they cleaning blood off the slide? because, damn
Kenyatta is MAD HOOD! LOL! He was like, "The giant slide is out of pocket." Lmao i can't.
These kids are not used to metal slides and it shows. We used to throw our bodies all over the place with those slides when we were kids in the 90’s
That’s how it’s supposed to work 🤷🏾♂️ I'm happy people didn't have camera phones when I was a child or else I never would've gotten to experience the joy of The Giant Slide.
If there were no injuries what's the issue....wasn't speed the rush when we were children?
"Man I'm finna die" LMAOOOO
Best rides are the ones you look at before getting on and say "man I'm Finna die"
"Gravity hurts"
Always that one person complaining that ruins it for everyone. If you dont like the slide then don't go.. no need to complain about it
You could wear some protective gears like gloves, knee and elbow pads, helmets to prevent head injury. Every years thousands die in car accidents but no one complain about that. 😡
And a helmet is needed too and it looks to be metal, even aluminium can get hot enough to burn or blister the skin, " that's one killer slide " for sure.
This is all over tictok. That why I am here
"Grand opening" Grand closing 😳
Kids today, are missing out. We would have loved that back in the day...even if a few if us died. Lol
Those kids are not meeting the weight limit.
“Gravity hurts” Thats genius
Kids back in the 80s wouldn't even care. We were tough as nails
Caroline wanna laugh so bad 🤣
They should've left it the way it was. Spray it with silicone every morning like they used to.
Wow! That's really fast!!!
The cleanup huh exactly what were they cleaning up
Feels like a good metaphor for the state.
Kids are tough. They can handle it.
Why is Carolyn smiling though?😂
I know she wants to laugh at those kids
These kids today are like cotton balls I have fun doing this a little Airborne but I loved every minute of it hey anybody remember the ride at the park where three or four you got on and you took it and you spun it around and two got dizzy I had fun with that too and another remember to swing you swing and he started swinging so high and then when you got high enough you jumped off that was fun too.
Soft.Give them their iPad and phones back. That looked fun asf.We had bruises of pride riding this as kids.Cotton balls indeed.
"Man, I'm finna die"
Are you supposed to bounce like that or u supposed to learn forward vid I saw was them not bouncing and they weren’t leaning back but forward
They were bouncing hard off that thing. 😂
This really made the news 🤣 that shit was fun years ago… kids just wanna sit in the house and Stare at the TV
This is the kinda shit I do in my dreams and wake up wondering why I always got headaches
Show them how to hold on to the bags

Looks fun to me. People are whimps today
what's going through your mind?
kid, "Man, I'm gonna die."
Didn't Kwame rebuild it? Couple that cheap labor and materials with the cheap sacks they're in and there you have it. He did The D so dirty!!!
The Giant Slide was not an airborne maker when I was a kid.
Sad that a place meant for fun has this kind of heat...... I hope they can get it fixed and nothing bad happens
You aren't supposed to put your feet in the air when sliding down...
You need a neck brace helmet and body suit to go down that slide
They can’t do anything about gravity. That looks fun, these kids are soft 😩
BRUTALITY.
"Closed for clean up"... too much blood in one day.
Gravity hurts! 😂😂😂😂
They didn’t test this out first?
have fun everybody
That looks like an awesome slide haha, every slide I went on I almost had to scoot myself down
Here come the personal injury lawyers. 🤔🙄 😵💫
Please fix the slide so children will not get hurt.
Problem is it’s made by DNR. We all know what that means.
Side note: Gravity Kills was a band.
Looks like fun!!
Im gettn on when does it close
