- In this Erudite Magic book review, Jeff discusses a titan of the magic world: Gene Anderson❗ Gene has been around for a while and is best known for his Newspaper Magic book and its revolutionary Torn & Restored Newspaper - a classic of magic! 📰
In Gene Anderson: The Book, Gene takes us in on what he's been working on for the last few decades since Newspaper Magic, sharing wisdom unlike most magic books. Gene was a part-time professional magician during his 30+ year career with Dow Chemical, and he explains how you can make the most of your dual career. 👔
Gene embodies what it means to be an erudite magician, so I know all my viewers will love this book with all of the requisite effects, essays, and advice he offers. 💡

What's your favorite Gene creation or concept⁉️🤔
Jeff, thanks for reviewing The Book. What a surprise, and what fun for me! It’s my legacy book, so I’m admittedly proud of it. It took me nine years to write it. I hope it will still be out there and relevant centuries from now.
What a legacy book‼️🤯😃👍
My favorite is String Thing. It's an old classic but Gene's take on it has made it that much more magical. I've done this trick during my childhood and Gene fooled me when I saw it.
Gene's book is *full* of improvements like that - thanks for sharing your favorite!
I just received this book and it’s one of my favorite books already.
Awesome - love hearing that!! 👏
Gene is a hero of mine. I’ve seen him perform multiple times over past 35 yrs. A complete professional in every respect. Don’t overlook picto transpo. Killer. My father was an incredibly tough audience. Rarely reacted. But when he saw Gene’s newspaper tear, he was shocked. 30 yrs later he still says it’s the best trick he’s ever seen. I agree.
Love hearing stories like this - thanks for sharing, Eric!
Eric, thank you for your kind words. Tell your dad that Gene sends his personal greetings, and they are not torn. But he could restore them, if necessary.
Great Review! & to Gene- your late 70s Genii Magazine cover was obsessed over by this boy magician. Plus, Newspaper Magic was always promptly displayed @ Magic Inc. during my yearly B-Day visit. As I grew older Magic dropped off as HS Theatre took over but I'm back and seeing you perform in your Penguin Lecture brought it all home. Also, I finally bought Newspaper Magic! Many thanks for the inspiration and yes I do some of your effects in my own way! Nothing but Love!
You're welcome - this was an easy review for me to do! Glad Gene has been an inspiration for you and so many others 👏
A Great tribute to Gene’s work. Like you I met him at MagiFest. I saw him lecturing with his power point presentation and the trick he performed with a wooden box he had created. I was blown away with the amount of knowledge he shared. This is a great review Jeff.
He is a real treasure to the magic community - so glad you got to see him perform! 😃
Thanks Nancy. That Magi-Fest lecture was really special for me. The trick you refer to was from Robert Harbin. I built on his shoulders and took it to higher ground, and brought in some Boris Wild on the side. Every nuance is in The Book. I hope you will construct and perform it.
@@geneandderson2236 thanks for your comment. I can’t wait to do it.
Awesome review! Great book, but an even better guy! Gene is one of the kindest people in magic!
💯❗ He is the real deal in so many ways 👌
I own those notes from a long time ago, and they are well written and inspiring.
"well written and inspiring" - As is everything from Gene! That's cool that you have the original notes. What year would you say that was? 🤔
Another great review for a book that you cannot buy anymore.
Got to act quickly 😉 Gene is getting another printing done. I spoke with him at MagiFest 👍
@@EruditeMagic ok. Thanks for the heads up.
Great review! This speaks to so many of the fine qualities that make many of us respect and appreciate this outstanding gentleman. I still smile and think of Gene every time I run across one of my half-filled bottles of rubber cement! Well done!
I love it!! You were the one who introduced me to Gene at MagiFest! 💙😃👍
Len, it’s good to have symbolic reminders! In the per-computer era, Bill Larsen used rubber cement to glue up the copies of Genii magazine. Richard Kaufman didn’t know that. Rubber cement doesn’t do everything, but what it does, it does uniquely, and well. Back in the day I bought rubber cement in gallon cans. It is still available in quarts on line, and still the right stuff.
Great reviews! Thanks.
You bet, Duane! Thanks for watching and commenting. Do you already own the book?

I ordered it right after watching your review & already have it in my hands. Great material!
Awesome, enjoy!
Nice review.
It's a great book!
You're a good guy, Jeff. I/we all appreciate the hard work You put into this channel- and the fact You don't just review the latest & greatest!!
Could I ask for a Eugene Burger episode- with reviews of all books, before his final coming out in July?
Wow, thank you so much for the kind words, Sasha! I will see what I can do about Mr. Burger - I definitely love his stuff!!
Good morning, Jeff & Gene!
Morning, Don! Thanks for watching!!
You just convinced me to add this book to my list to buy!
I remember seeing my friend perform the newspaper tree and having no idea how it worked or who created it, which in hindsight should have been obvious that it was Gene since he did the newspaper tear too!
So glad you're considering this book - it's wonderful!
@@EruditeMagic Just have to save up for that international shipping cost! A couple of gigs will afford me the extra cash to pick it up hehe
That's great! Where's home? 🏡
@@EruditeMagic Across the pond in Sydney, Australia!
Nice! I want to visit someday - my first trip down under was in 2019 to Melbourne. Good luck with the book - I know you'll love it!
Nice book review 👍😊👍😊
Thank you! 💙
Good morning
Greetings! Do you already own Gene's book? What's your favorite creation of his?
