      @@lachieb5843 Maybe. But it's possible to create them so that they enhance the aero rather than detract. Like the 'turbulators' on a Ping, it's a matter of how the air moves.
      If they really want to cut through the air, they could also squash the face more. Which would force us to tee it lower but it would push less air. Basically a 3 wood with a a driver loft and shaft length. Pushing less air would make it faster. I remember when 460 cc heads came out. My driver at the time was a 350 cc Cobra. The move to 460 cc made you really notice how much the air pushed back at you. Especially since at that time, the faces were even taller than they are today though maybe not quite as wide. I still have that first 460 cc Cobra I bought. It's not a club I use anymore much, but it's fun to hit around corners when I play a course with a ton of left doglegs. It's offset by a ton so hooking it is easier than not.

    • @KMMHL2012
      @KMMHL2012 2 роки тому

      They do now, the companies tried to compete with one another, and created this market for options to tailor to a buyers needs.
      Now they are in the thick of it, with all these companies having to produce it, because if they don't, they can lose market share to the competitors who still offer this "tailored" buying experience.
      When in reality all we really want is companies to make the effort to make an adjustable driver than meets the demands, distance and forgiveness.

    • @ConnorLyon
      @ConnorLyon 2 роки тому +1

      100% they do. A large quantity of players slice, probably half the golfers in the world slice it. Another large quantity hit the face so inconsistently they need the forgiveness. For the remaining amount of players who hit the centre consistently, they have so much speed they want less spin.

    The reason they do not use the three weights is due to the effect on the overall weight on the club head. As someone who is a collegiate golfer and works with Pro Long Drivers regularly, the weight of the head is key for optimization and with clubs already taking as much weight out, they push the limits with the weighting already which can cause a change in swing speed. The drivers being close between the normal and LS is not a bad thing since low handicap/pro golfers look for minimal change and it only being 100 rpms is nice. Pros experience that same difference per factor of equipment like shaft and golf ball, so they can make the spin lower/higher if they want to elsewhere.

    First off great review. Love your videos. Love my AeroJet LS. Went for a fitting a little over a month ago. Increased my average drive by 12.3 yards from my previous driver Taylor Made SIM. During the fitting, I also tried the Taylor Made Stealth 2 Plus, Ping G430, and the Callaway Paradym, and the numbers came out with the Cobra AeroJet LS being the best for my swing. It also brought my spin rate down 698 rpms. Went with the 9 degree loft, but increased it to 10.5 degrees, went with the Kai'li Blue 60 S shaft. I explained to my fitter that I wanted to avoid the snap hook, as that was costing me strokes. I have the 12g weight in the heel and the 3 gram weight in the toe. The reason there are 3 different models, is the AeroJet Max is draw biased, the LS is fade biased and the standard AeroJet is neutral. I disagree from the standpoint of having 3 weights in 1 version. I think Cobra got it right with 3 different drivers. I also do not even notice the design you didnt care for by the shaft, but it was a great observation on your part. Until I watched your review I did not even see it . This is my first Cobra Driver and I love it. Thanks for all of your videos. They are really informative.

    Makes pure sense, I love hearing your views on equipment, maybe they should come to you for the R & D ?.

    Very well constructed argument for the three weight system. I'd love to see you call up one of Cobra's club engineers and see if it's possible to either do a video in their truck talking about the pros and cons of that idea along with learning some basic things about club design in general from an expert. Or do the same on the podcast...

    Love the content, Rick! As a golf professional, I value your understanding and breakdown of what each manufacturer is attempting to do and your honesty! Any chance you’ll be taking a peek at Srixon’s new Mk.II lineup? Been hearing strong things!

    Totally agree Rick, I got to demo the PXG gen6 with the 3 weight port system I was able dial in a little more toe weight and back weight to protect against a toe miss low spin. My cobra LTDX LS is the longest driver I’ve ever played due to higher launch and lower spin with great looks and feel but is susceptible to low spin hooks. That driver would have been unbelievable had it had a back weight for a little added stability.

    I've been playing the F9 irons since they came out and I love them. Once this driver came out, I bought last year's LTDx Max (not a fast swinger of the club) with the price drop. Can only seeing it indoors at a simulator, I'm in Michigan, USA. So far, indoors, I'm excited for it!

    I love Rick's idea. Clearly then, almost every OEM has missed the boat. That's why I am enjoying my PXG Gen 5 driver (for $299!!) so much, three weights around the head that will grow with me as my driving gets better.

    I’ve watched several videos lately of different testers testing these new 2023 drivers and most don’t differ enough between each model that the average golfer would benefit significantly. Secondly they don’t differ that much between the previous models (except price). So making one club that can be adjusted to suit each player and players ability makes much more sense. As well as keeping the cost down, which at the moment everyone would appreciate. Good video Rick, all the best for 2023 👍⛳️🏌🏼‍♂️

    Completely agree!
    The main thing I look for when buying a new driver is adjustability, so it can be set up to suit my swing as it evolves.

    Rick, you raise a valid point regarding the '3 driver heads v 1 head fits all' philosophy...I completely agree with you but most manufactures have gone away from multi-weight adjustment - is there a reason for this? It would be interesting to ask some of the club manufacturers to find out.

    Gosh I totally concur with you assessment on the missed opportunity brother! I'm hitting the PXG 0311 GEN 5 because it meets exactly the format that you conceptualized for what this driver could have been. Three weight slots, and PXG sells a range of weights for the player to be able to outfit the driver with any weight config that they want, to include just putting the same weight amount in all three slots for those of us who just want to make that driver head exceptionally heavy. I hope Cobra takes that concept you depicted here to heart!

    Cobra is so underrated for some reason. I got the Radspeed driver for Christmas and immediately went from around 240 average with a 10 year old Ping to 275+ nearly every time. My last round I hit a 326 yard drive that is easily my best ever. These things hit rockets

    The reason for not putting 3 weights in 1 driver is because the adjustability of the hosel. You can go F N D bias in that. Swing weights make a huge difference in how the club comes into the ball. So with weight changes and hosel changes that can really screw with the player. There needs to be a neutrality without big swings in weight change.
