It baffles me how expensive American homes are despite being built so cheaply like the walls are literally made out of paper and yet you’re charging me 400K
Like everything else-expensive but they cut corners or cheap quality. Now that I’m older, this really is our country🤣 they and their loved ones can go straight to HELL.
It depends on the state. Maybe live where you can afford a house.
@@RealMTBAddict so that’s the average price of the American home but with your logic everyone who makes under 100k need to move to Wyoming in the middle of nowhere
@@Djreactions831 Average doesn't mean that's the lowest you'll find. I just bought a house for $280k in a city where the average is $450k. So you have to look. 👍
Theres a couple reasons why.Houses r expensive due to high demand of houses and low supply.Second they are built out of wood because its cheaper and more fast to build.A pallet of brick (500 bricks)Is like 1k and takes longer.Third the US has a High supply of wood
Brick and concrete instead of cardboard?
Need steel with concrete
Yes. I live in Miami and every home in south Florida is built with rebar , concrete block and poured concrete.
@@hyp1755
And that's what collegiate sports stadiums use to protect itself from hurricanes or tornadoes.
Im from asia and im really asking the usa why they build so weak and they have tornadoes and hurricanes much like in tropical asia.
🤯🤯🤯🤯
Solution: Cement, Concrete
You forgot rock and metal roofs
I was just about to comment that they need to stop building these house out of paper
Do not forget rebar
No, just steel
@@SheriKeenangood ideas but what about lightning?
Step #1 - DON'T BUILD A HOME OUT OF PAPER.
Step #2 - DON'T PAY $300K, $400K, $600, $999K FOR A HOME MADE OF PAPER.
Step #3 - SEE STEP #1, #2!
I like that 3 step formula 😂
Step 4. Pay $800k for a concrete home with a salary of $60k
Reminds me of the 3 little pigs...yet we continue to build cheap houses out of the cheapest woods
Exactly!!!
And the HOA has proved to be a HOAX😮
Money. Can you afford a concrete and steel home?
A catagory 5 hurrican can destroy a brick home
Exactly.. why are ppl still using wood!!
Aluminum, steel , coated waterproof , even fireproof material
Here in Florida every house should be make of concrete, structure and roof. In the Caribbean that how they do it due to the exposure of hurricanes every year.
The solution is easy. Build concrete homes with concrete roof just like those precast concrete homes. But remember counties don't like that because they don't get $ for permits for repairs plus the Home Depot and others will loose $.
It blows my mind 🧠that most houses here in USA 🇺🇸 are made out of paper 🗒, but the ones in the middle east are made out of concrete.
It baffles me that the US has such a massive percentage of homes built from weak materials like plywood.
It's all designed to make sure that companies who makes all of those resources for you to build your home to make sure that you keep buying and buying so that they make more money. Same way with vehicles. Vehicles used to protect the driver and the others inside of the vehicle with hard steel that can save many lives. Now, it's all about money more than a person's safety.
Sfeel cars actually caused more death @@RowdyJr
I know like brick rock and concrete are best at protection and not falling over.
Hell the fact people still use asphalt roofs in such places is stupid like use a metal roof bolt it down.
The worst part is we constantly complain about co2 levels forest gone not having enough lumber for homes and yet in places that destroy wood homes every year they continue using wood like wtf stupidity is what that is.
GREED
@@RowdyJryou are so absolutely certain about being wrong. mostly about vehicles. And physics, apparently.
Fascinating simulation! Wow!
The garage door caving in was intense and that opens up the house to be ripped apart. A hurricane rated garage door should be standard on all new homes in hurricane prone areas. Insurance companies should give discounts for retrofits.
Only because there were no bracing bars inside
It's not the home so much as the roof. Here in Houston where we deal with a lot of hurricanes, a majority of damage is from falling trees and ceilings collapsing from water, so until the roof is the main protector without falling on the occupants and can sustain a tree falling on it, building with bricks VS wood does not matter.
Easy, use blocks or bricks for heaven sake. We don't loose many houses in our island in the Caribbean due to hurricanes because mosof the houses are made our of blocks. Simple! No human lives lost, nothing!
America is all about money and doesn't care about lives
Bc it will get too hot
@@nicksalgado22what does that mean? Florida is largely concrete and masonry construction.
"Hurricane Maria was an extremely powerful and deadly Category 5 Atlantic hurricane that devastated the northeastern Caribbean in September 2017, particularly in the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico, which accounted for 2,975 of the 3,059 deaths"
Excuse me?
@@Skippy0330 Puerto Rico is a good example of NOT hurricane ready
Shutters not for decoration is a good idea.
Ok so this is evident how Caribbean homes are able to withstand major hurricanes, as our homes are built with concrete and steel also the roofs are cement (decking).
Just use bricks and concrete. If Africa can afford it, surely America should be able to. It’s not even that hard. Houses are already crazy expensive and using solid materials should not cost additional arm and leg.
New anchors always seem so friendly and professional towards one another☺️
The roofing industry is why we all have paper roofs in FL. Metal roofs can withstand Category three storms and don't have to be repaired replaced every 10-30 years. They can easily last 50 years.
Have you been to Florida? My house has been been is the eye of two hurricanes, hit by multiple, and gone through 2 cat 4's. Same wood roof 22 years later. No leaks related to storms.
Tbf it does have a life of like 25 years, but it's been alright
Why don't you build reinforced concrete structured building
The reason is likely enormous cost for a single detached home to go that route. But there is a way one can get reinforced concrete construction without costing an arm & a leg: just buy a unit in a high-rise condo!
Seriously, I'd get a condo unit if I really had to live a hurricane prone area. This gives greatest chance of protecting life and property.
High rise buildings are indeed made of steel and reinforced concrete since you can benefit from economies of scale and such large buildings need that strength anyways. The height will save your property from storm surge. Unfortunately, Americans are too hung up on single detached homes which are bad for the environment and contribute to urban sprawl. Detached homes also use up a lot of energy because of high surface area. We can see detached homes are very prone to being ripped up by hurricanes and tornadoes.
As extreme weather continues to ramp up over the next few decades, single detached homes in these areas will be uninsurable for 95+% of people shortly. Urban life in such areas will be forced into condos. Look at places like Asia where condo living is the standard, and that may be arriving to US en mass within the span of the next 30 to 50 years. You have to adapt or die.
@@beyondfossilcondo's are the last place I'd want to be lol. Mostly in flood zones, built on swamp and sand, and most of them are hitting their service life. A good portion still built pre-90's hurricane codes
EDiT: only applicable in Florida lol
Most houses in Florida after Andrew are. Get educated.
"enormous cost" the house I live in has Brick walls and all floors are reinforced concrete. Bought it for 180k (it is worth 400k now but it's still cheaper than a lot of American paper houses)@@beyondfossil
One word. "Concrete"
Bingo! Reinforced concrete with new mix-in's help a lot... Hence why those tacky Billionaire Row towers in Manhattan are even technically possible..
Step 1: don’t build it out of wood
perfect recommendation
All of a sudden the astronomical housing prices in the Northeast don't seem too bad.
Northeast still gets hurricanes
I live in Bermuda which is located in Hurricane Alley. We get tons of hurricanes.. more so than Florida. But our houses are made of limestone. STONE. Most of the damage that occurs is from trees falling down. Might lose pieces of our roof but nothing like the US. If you live somewhere that you choose to call home, you have to build your home up to the standards of the environment you live in… feels like such a simple thing to fix
I roofed a couple buildings in Florida that was rated for 150mph and it took thousands of screws and plates drilled inside beams melting and welding materials not shingles and nails 😂
When my parents used to read to me "The Three Little Pigs", I remember realizing if only brick/block houses can stop the big bad wolf then I better step it up for a hurricane! Sure enough, my place just survived 2 hurricanes with absolutely no damage. I'm teaching my kids to do the same.
Don’t use wood have concrete brick or rock walls have a metal roof bolt it down.
Have home on strong stilts or build a hill to put the home on so it’s 3 to 5 feet higher then the landscape around it so it’s much less likely to flood but still have a full normal concrete foundation slab.
He’ll reducing the amount of concrete and asphalt by 20% in towns and cities and replacing it with native plants and trees with lots of available soil will reduce flooding as it now has a place to go the soil also plants and trees slow the fall of water so will reduce flooding as well.
I saw another video a while ago which said Americans dont bother building strong homes and dont even get insurance because tornados and hurricanes are so rare and not worth the cost of a storm resistant home. They learnt nothing from Noah.
Damn nature you scary
I have no idea on why Americans make homes so cheaply .. In The Bahamas bricks, concrete are standard and mandatory to be used in building a home ..
Well maybe bc the US has alot of trees 🤔.Its also cheaper to use wood,Bricks and cement and concrete Would be more expensive and also it takes longer to
@@LATRY45but why sell plywood house with crazy prices😮?if the material are cheap cost.
@@hanisrosli5484it's land that expensive. Not the house, that's why they keep rebuilding it
@@LATRY45that's my point .. Despite the expense you want it to last through the weather .. Making wooden homes we see how that played out with the 3 little pigs and the wolf
@@TinoMiller The US Natural Disasters are far worse than any other country.US use to build they’re houses out of Bricks but due to the hazard of them flying during disasters it causes far worse injuries/damages.Wood is far easier and if its built properly it shouldnt fly away during a hurricane.Concrete is far way expensive in the US.Yes its better but its dangerous
Here in the Philippines, we use concrete 😊
Your going to need a re-enforced house 20 feet of the ground. The wind is one thing, storm surge/flooding is another issue.
Unbelievable. How can a garage just rip off like that instead of staying in tact? Seems like the safest place.
Insulating Concrete Form construction is only 5-10% more expensive overall compared to a house of sticks. Bit more if you also do the roof out of concrete. Small price to pay for a peace of mind. Maybe skip that gaudy golden chandelier.
Plywood and rubber mats for a roof. Never understood it
I guess at this point, houses are going to have to be constructed like skyscrapers with steel skeletal frames!! More expensive BUT if you want to save your home 🤷🏽♂️
Useless having a home in a hurricane area. Homes in that area need to have better materials
If America didn’t stop building quality products, insurance companies wouldn’t be hurting so bad.
Bruh, the house wasn't even damaged. The wood did just fine. Instead of replacing your roof with shingles, put a corrugated metal roof on it. Problem solved and it is still an affordable house. The wind from a hurricane doesn't do the damage anyway, it's the storm surge or a tree falling on it.
Hmm, 2 Hurricanes in 13 days. Helene & Milton, causing flooding in unexpected areas. How about flood-proof too!😢
Build houses like we build them in Florida… BLOCK
Dont people usually put plywood on their windows before a hurricane?
Excuse me? Replace your roof every ten years? This guy.
Concrete, that's literally what the rest of the world uses.
Listening to geologists and structural engineers when they advise NOT to build somewhere is a pretty good start. Any notice how every place that has hide entire neighborhoods burn down and wash away, has 70 yr olds saying "That area was not buildable when I was young".
Well, it's already a hurricane/storm prone area, it should've been concrete to begin with when you talk about housing. On the other hand, climate change and global warming has already been an issue for eon...we need to be firm and start doing something beneficial for the environment and not too much urbanization and making the area too🎉 commercial. There should be a fine line on what not to touched anymore. We also need to plant more trees in the mountains and forest.
Oh no, my garden shed would be in danger in a cat 3 hurricane.
Steel
make ur home a dome..simple
Wow now that's what I call a housing crisis.
No ice and water shield? No hot tar dipped? Cmon America
2:19 WHY!?
American houses are so cheaply made... its like built with toothpicks and paper
Just build houses with bricks, every building in my country is built by bricks
The real question is though can anything really outlast Mother Nature? Won’t the water flood eventually
Hawaii of Canada? give me a BREAK! Ever been there in winter non-stop rain for 6 months you never see the sun, that's not Hawaii!
America. 😂
The land we cant supposedly build enough homes to house everyone demand affordably
And ALSO
Can make a house overnight to rotate and put though a artificial hurricane, no problem.
why don't they use shipping containers
Too bad Florida has been overrun by hoa developers building strawstick homes
130mph is a a cat 4 😭😭
Take a page out of how Jamaica start building their houses.. wayyyy stronger …house like that should stop being built when you guys gonna learn…..smh
Weak homes are only in America.
Or if you got the money just built a reinforced concrete home. 😅
Pretty sure Cement & Steel Bars are cheaper in the U.S.
Stop building plywood homes.
Step one… get if off the ground!
The Three Little Pigs know something Americans don't.
Not buying it until I see a full demonstration of a real full proof home that can withstand a hurricane and I know y’all can do it because y’all built NASA y’all got million dollar buildings in Dubai New York City in Miami they can withstand hurricane so that means yall can do it to houses so I’m not putting a dollar or my signature or any piece of paper until I see a real full proof home that was that a hurricane, like I see full hurricane proof buildings in Miami in New York in Dubai across the world I know y’all can do it. Do it do it right the people the communities in the homes
3D printing to the rescue...
Американцы в курсе что бетон изобрели 2000 лет назад в Древнем Риме и из него можно строить дома😂
As long as you don’t use tofu and paper as sidings like some countries do.
They built the weakest house to make hurricanes look worse.
Build your homes with concrete and rebars for heaven sake!!!!! Stop using the cardboard box.
3:27 fml they can't even build proper garage doors like wtf is this :D
Ironic how we have regressed as a society in terms of build quality… why? One word. Money
Why are people saying the same thing? Bunch of bots. 😂😂😂
Don't built them out of cardboard. End of the story.
Build it in stone. Over Asia where hurricane are more powerful and more frequent house survive Bec their made of steal and stone and concrete. Here it's made of chalkboard and plywood lol
More expense to be paid by the average citizen climate change (that is not happening, but predicated by Exxon in the '70's).
build nordic houses
Wow
Have you heard about concrete reinforce by steel bra?
Just make them like the germans
Its better not to live in a hurricane states, the power of nature and cataclysms, no building materials, fortifications won't hold back, especially wind and water this power will not hold back anything, especial plastic, carton materials, and since the climate is warming up, powerful hurricanes will come often. In a changing climate home insurances companies will not be able to make a profit from frequent disasters, and the home insurances will be a huge problem especially in hurricane states.
Where you gonna live? Try living in areas that are ABOVE 15' above MSL. Then try living in buildings that are BEYOND tree fell range. And there's only two states that are NOT in an earthquake zone and one of those is Florida (the other one is South Dakota). A lotta states West of the Mississippi are also prone to wildfires. And the mid section of the country is tornado alley. You may wanna try living on a sailboat (and get atta dodge when a nasty spinner is approaching). Or maybe living in an RV. You could also live underground I knew someone years ago that did that. This was in Fort Lauderdale.
@@leecowell8165 Are you joking? if houses can not withstand hurricanes wind and flooding, how to live on a sailboat on the ocean around sharks😜, or in a trailer plastic, this is the worst thing you advised me😀, its safer to live in the mountains or in states where there are no hurricanes like in Florida or other southern states.
@@k172134 ever heard of Hurricane Sandy
you need earplugs and knee pads and elbow pads
May wanna think about GLUING down that sheathing! You know... construction adhesive have you builders and inspectors and idiot attorneys ever heard of that nasty stuff? Obviously NOT! Because THAT'S how most buildings are lost (when sheathing is sucked off the leeside of the roof). Because once that happens the envelope has been penetrated and interior pressure blows the building out.
Yeah glue should do it since wooden nails doesn't

I feel like it's going to be okay
Your time scale for climate change vs the existence of modern humans is...way off. We generally have not experience change anywhere near the rate we are now.
Come and take a lesson from Europe how to build homes...
So much for “American quality”
Sure, show me in Europe where you get constant earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes and other natural disasters. Show me a place in Europe that's not the size of a cell attached to another cell with zero yards.
