Well this is a bit misleading (pun intended) due to the difference between static and dynamic crosshairs. The dynamic shows where your shells will hit at a certain distance if the enemy ship is traveling in about 30 knots. The static shows where they will hit if the enemy ships is moving at 20 knots. And then there is a ton of other factors such as ship size, the smaller the ship is the more you have to lead (shooting at bayern for instance). Then you have the fact that the fire to impact duration is calculated on shells traveling at 850 metres/second at 18 km of range. And so forth with about 2 million different factors.
Flying Brains Well, yeah,, thats what it comes down to in about 90% of the time (like all types of fast shooting). Sooner or later aiming in this game also will run mostly on automatic. Myself i tend to calculate harder shots, whether they are at angled targets, far away, or with ships i rarely play a bit more. Other then that I mostly slug them away on a gut feeling. Still, it's good to at least be aware of the major components that makes the shells land where they are supposed to land. With that answer in mind, I usually miss the crap out of everything. 😂
I personally prefer the dynamic crosshair, and i am using the dynamic crosshair Nomogram (i think it's the right name) mod from Aslain's mod pack, this crosshair has 2 scales, one for a speed of 20kn and one for 30kn
The tick marks are not "seconds" as you call them. You have to make use of the marks to determine the ship length at certain distance, and with experience you will learn to lead targets. What I mean is that there is no general rule, like if you aim at a target moving at 30kts at 13 km and the shell travel time is 8s, that doesn't necessarily mean you will hit center mass if you aim the reticule at 8 ticks. And if in some cases you will (that will depend on the actual length of the ship) it won't mean that if the target is 25 km away and the shell travel is 16s you will simply put the reticle at 16 and that's it.
I use the dynamic, as you say it is important to know your shell velocity. I have 213 ships in port and play them all. It makes aiming a challenge since they are all different. AP and HE might have different velocities on the same ship, you should look before starting a battle. You may want to show a noob how/where to find out the velocity. A question on space camo does the smoke (that isn't smoke) work the same as the regular smoke?
Uhm, the lead, as indicated by numbers on the crosshairs, does not depend on flight time or distance. This video is absolutely and completely wrong. Sure, longer flight time means the target moves more during the shell flight but this is already covered by the fact that the farther the enemy is, the longer the distance represented by the angular measurements of the crosshairs. The two pretty much cancel each other out. Lead depends solely on the faction of enemy's speed compared to shell velocity. You add a bit of extra lead for far away targets because the shell loses velocity, not because they have farther to fly. This effect is most pronounced on DDs and least on BBs. Ships with high shell arcs need more for the same reason - their shells are usually slow and then even slower when measured on the Z axis (as a lot of their speed is "wasted" on climbing high). Atlanta is the most extreme example - at the extremes of her range the shell falls nearly vertically, losing almost all speed in the Z axis and requiring obscene leads (15+ on the dynamic scale).
You can tell how fast a ship is going by observing the smoke coming from the stack. However if the ship is on fire from stem to stern.... well you'll just have to guess.
Wow zoup! I have been playing wows for more than year and a half now and by habit alone, I tend to lead and fire. I have never looked into these details at all. The maximum I do is check whether the distance marked in the Crosshair corresponds to the distance of the ship and that too not always. I have grinded us bb line to Iowa and simply by habit and previous experiences I take lead and shoot. Nice vid. Continue making more.
Static crosshair is.. well static. Always the same, no mater yor zoom. Dynamic and the tics are always the same, they scale with the zoom. So even though you dont use max zoom, the seconds / tickmarks still works.
For starters I would go with static crosshairs and as rule of thumb, use 10 for BB, 20 for CA and 30 for DD, especially at the start of the battle when all ships are racing for caps. You can then adjust your fire based on where your first round has landed.
I feel like my aiming is pretty solid but the dispirision if shots seem horrible, I've been trying out different ships but I'm also curious if high tier ships have smaller dispirision
I just updated to a 43 inch 4k monitor. The game is beautiful but one thing I have noticed is that the calibration for the dynamic crosshair is off. It used to be one tick mark for 1 second of shell flight time for a ship traveling at thirty knots. So if an Iowa class battleship was going in a straight line at full speed and it would take 10 seconds for the shells to get there you would put the 10 tic mark where you wanted to aim. It is WAY off at 4k and because I do not know the scale I can't hit anything consistently. Has anyone else had this issue?
Guys one thing i cannot seem to find, his minimap runs smooth, like it shows real time movement, mine however "lags" like, after the ship was already moved after it moves on the minimap and so on.....any setting i am missing?
I’ll be damned. I thought the numbers represented Km!! I have played 300+ games on this basis, and never once taken shell flight time into account other than the distance away the target is. I feel really dumb now :(
It's amazing how well your shells work if you aim correctly. The joke in my clan is that I use aimbot due to tagging DDs at extreme ranges (it helps if the DD driver thinks he's in a BB and doesn't change course for the 20 seconds it takes for the shell to reach target). Aim location is very important too. Looking forward to more vids Zoup, thanks! -Tavman
sry my friend the only way to hit a moving target is to pick an aim point see where it hits and adjust look at the smoke, the bow wave) the angle and adjust I seem to have better Luck with the dynantic reticle doing this r/ tincan7
Helping the player base to improve the quality of the game ty sir only hopes it does improve............ .yes I know it might be a pipe dream but let me dream damnit xD
Yea but what about fact that i aim at ship which is standing still and my ship deals 2000 dmg??? Perfect aim at midlle of ship from side n bit over water line 12 barrels 360mm guns 8km distance and result is 2000 dmg??? Gayassgame and then they shoot 20k from 12 km away
sameee my tier 4 bb MYOGI misses most of its shells at 13km range or 10km range because the shell would just spread itself between the ship then only 1 or 2 shells hit.
As an ex artillery officer can I offer another hint. Shoot one shot first then adjust fire if you miss
I thought you always IMMEDIATELY fire for effect with no adjustments!? =D
What about warning shot?
@@clansman89 Dont. It gives them time to dodge.
Orc .Head unless your in Pershing then we only had one shot
Thats a good way to find the perfect shot. But there is a possibilty that they change their course after saw your shot.
... whats the point of giving correct lead when all my ships guns act like sawed off shotgun.
For real
@@iambeloved496 true.
a tip: when not sure of lead, fire one turret off, observe where shells land and correct the lead, then fire rest of guns
ewok40k or you can fire each turret on a different lead because maybe the enemy slows down as soon as you shoot at him
No....just no. So the target won't change course once he realises you are firing?
Ewok40 is correct, it’s called a sensing round. And you don’t have to wait till the sensing round lands on target to fire your salvo.
at the beginning it can work but later u would probably not need it when u got experience...however early on it is useful to get the feel
Incoming fire alert may create a variable for your trajectory.

Gundolf300 The truth is I can't take all these factors under consideration. Its impossible for me. So I just rely on intution and gut feeling.

Omg thank you so much, i've been shooting my shots just on my feel the whole time😅
same been playing for years feel like a noob now
same XD I FEEL LIKE A BIG NOOB

Awesome tip on the exhaust!
Really simple and great advice! Great Work!
Simply amazing Zoup, The very first time I have heard it explained that way. THANK YOU !!!
This will change my gameplay, thank you
Thanks Zoup always good to see people offering helpful advice to other players :)

Not if you put it crosshair on dynamic
Excellent, brief and clear. Thanks!

been playing for 3 years and always just "winged" it with the lead.
I feel like an idiot.
This video deserves more likes.

Thanks, fast and easy.
Could you go more in depth on aiming and hitting angled targets?
This is useful.

Wow dope tip thx bro
Thanks for this video! I just learned how to play, anyway, this helped me! If you are wondering, I am a girl, not a BOY! 👧

what about a destroyer or cruiser doing 30 knots. where u set the firing thing at???

In the past 55 games I havent hit one shot, Followed all the steps, my shells seem to go exactly opposite of where I aim

Good timing. I seem to have forgot how to do this.
in world of warship blitzs the aiming method is different
Dam Zoup you just made the food more knowledgeable and now i will have less to eat if they follow directions.
Yea but what about fact that i aim at ship which is standing still and my ship deals 2000 dmg???
Perfect aim at midlle of ship from side n bit over water line 12 barrels 360mm guns 8km distance and result is 2000 dmg???
Gayassgame and then they shoot 20k from 12 km away
on my verson a dont have that in the center for the time and range a dont have it
If I get this right... At an speed of 25 knots, my aim should be the same as the amount of seconds it will take my payload to travel?
Nyet, The static crosshairs are calibrated for 20 knots. So if your target goes 25 knots you'l have to put on some extra lead.
how do I aim when the ship goes obliquely?
how to aim... practice :D in time you will be able hit at 24km just by look at the ship
How do you can torpedo cam, cause I see other youtubers do it, but I can't find the key binding. Thanks!

QuestionMan thanks!
Z follows any of your armament on its way
Hey zoup do you guys have a discord?
THAT TICK IS ACTUALLY A SECOND ????
I THOUGHT IT'S MEAN KILOMETER
No Wonder i always miss my shoot
I've seen my shells about to hit a target and then "veer away" at the last second so there's actually no skill involved, just RNG.
sameee my tier 4 bb MYOGI misses most of its shells at 13km range or 10km range because the shell would just spread itself between the ship then only 1 or 2 shells hit.
Fuck the New York, that ship is utter garbage and misses every single shot and doesn't penetrate anything.
Sadly this doesnt work, ever. I've gone to simply ignoring the guide and I aim by feel more than anything.
It doesn't show the seconds for me. Why?
How do i lead at an enemy that is AFK?
ok ok, i´ll leave by myself
too bad you misspelled 'Quarter Speed" :)
I followed the tips in this video, and it did not help improve my aim.
How did you ping the mini map in WoWs?
Judy double-click one of the minimap squares.
Ctrl-double click on the mini-map
i forget the button to scope -_-
French ships are speedybois
I have been playing wows for 3 years. I am idiot
Green screen? But why?
How to aim decent, Play 1000+ hours!
Or you instal a mod that tells you how fast the enemy Is going and make it easy for you
.

:P
this game fucking broken gun system....
This is the dumbest advice for this game. Try that leading ticks per second and see how it goes 😂
