I believe there were several moments in our history where a portion of our total population lived this type of "caveman" lifestyle, as needed. Also, across the face of the earth, there are many different environments - and, the foods available to one group of "cavemen" would be fairly different from another group, in another area. Following Bible, there was a population of humans, before the Great Flood. Cain and Abel offered the first fruits of grain and cattle; suggesting there was horticulture from the beginning. After which, there were populations going around the earth. Immediately after Noah came out of the Ark, he Planted a vineyard; suggesting that horticulture was part of the human experience and practice since the re-start. In the book of Genesis, cave dwelling is mentioned - but, so are cities and horticulture. That's why I believe "cavemen" lifestyles may have occurred during various temporary times, across various environments, as needed. Before the flood, after the flood, and perhaps even now. The diet would not be clearly defined across all "cavemen". Also, take into account that certain foods would only be available during certain parts of the year, and during off-season there would need to be another source of food. I believe "cavemen" would also know about trade, and where the nearest city is. Just to give another perspective. God bless all of you!
