She needs to blame herself too. Ffs, she had a mastectomy at 20. But now she changes her mind last minute and it’s ALL on them? Come on now.! I’m not a trans activist but she knows what she was doing. Yes more things should have been explored and it shouldn’t have been done. But she has to hold herself accountable too. Don’t care if she was 14. I hold myself accountable for what I did at that age. I took myself to the gp at 13 for OCD/depression. You need guidance at that age but you’re not blame free for what you yourself insisted on repeatedly (and would continue to do so into your twenties 🙄) The system is at fault here because she was a minor, but she surely needs to understand she played the main role in doing this to herself.

As someone who also suffers from mental illness, I know how that goes all too well.
We should all be focusing on how this is allowed to happen to vulnerable children and taking action to put an end to it.

A very high percentage of trans people say transition made their life better. Something like 1% of trans people detranstion and half of those do it for reasons like lack of support. I was a trans kids. A dysphoric puberty is a nightmare. Its wrong to deny medical options to many to protect a few.

As a high school teacher with forty-three years of experience in diverse states and with diverse populations, I can tell you that kids need support. Counselors are useless. I had a boy who was self medicating and I asked the male counselor to call him in and just chat. Counselor just said, "Well, I can't make him." So, that counselor was free to goof off the rest of the day and chat and eat with the other counselors. These kids came to me, because they knew me and this boy, who my assistant said, "Please Ms. A. I need to talk." So, I had to give my thirty-five students a desk assignment so I could help him. People: stop paying useless administrators and counselors money and free up the time of teachers who have the students' trust. And, I admire Keira. And, since researchers are so damn clever with puberty blockers, why haven't they invented a drug to help Keira to get her woman's voice back. And for those girls who have had uterus and breast removal, how about a drug to grow them back! Honestly, so many professions have lost all common sense!
A surgeon could operate on vocal chords by decreasing the thickness. That is possible. Voice training where ones softens tone as opposed to pitch can help.
This is how a natal male who doesn't identify or want to go into manhood feels. At least Keira had a choice but should have had counseling before and during transition to address issues as they come up.

It's not accepting your natal development currently and for what development may happen in the future. Counseling should reveal that one does not desire that further development. If that body autonomy issue isn't the one in play, then transition may not be right for patient. To force a natal male who doesn't want to go through male puberty is pretty disgusting.

I’m wary to say that this is what it is. I have to believe that those parents genuinely believe they are acting in the best interest of their child. At least for my own sanity, I have to believe that.

I am a retired Tavistock trained child and adolescent psychotherapist. I have been deeply concerned about the entrapment of part of the Tavistock Clinic, GIDS, by this ideology. I am so glad Kiera has spoken out. I also feel sure that most of the Tavistock staff would not have been in agreement with GIDS. The knowledge and skills held by most staff working in the Child and Family and Adolescent departments are excellent. This issue should not tarnish the whole service at the Tavistock, who, I am sure would have wanted to help Kiera with the family and other issues she alludes to in a deeply considered way taking into account many aspects of Kiera’s situation.
What an intelligent, articulate, polite and balanced young lady even after all she's been through. And brave for speaking out.

Who gives these organizations the authority to take abusive liberties with the minds and bodies of children?
According to UNICEF, the Convention on the Rights of the Child spells out the basic human rights that every child under age 18 has:

- the right to develop to the fullest;
- the right to protection from harmful influences, abuse and exploitation; and
- the right to participate fully in family, cultural and social life.
The four core principles of the Convention are
- non-discrimination;
- devotion to the best interests of the child;
- the right to life, survival and development; and
- respect for the views of the child.
Further to that why are the countries violating these laws not at the Hague being tried on ALL COUNTS????

Actually it was her mother who first put the idea in her mind by asking if she thought she might be trans.
Even 18 is too young to consent to life changing and irreversible treatments. The pre frontal cortex which influences decision making and understanding consequence of action is not fully developed until age 25 in non neurodivergent young persons. Those with comorbidities such as autism may take even longer.

I'm a former transkid, I'm in my 20s now. If you have a child that has been severely cross sex identified since 3 years old, and this is my experience, they come into puberty and they are still insistently, consistently and persistently insisting they are a girl (as is my case, opposite for FtM) then this child is transsexual, HSTS, this isn't a child caught up in a cult or an AGP child. Forcing them to go through puberty, which happened to me as I was forced by a very sadistic psychiatrist to "be a gay man", is nothing short of abuse. We are under such pressure to not hurt our parents (what parent wants to hear their little boy say I'm a girl???) and we know that people would prefer it and give us less hastle if we were "just gay man", I was severely bullied, I eventually desisted for a few painful years and tried to be a gay man but realised this was never going to work and I transitioned at 15, even when I desisted I still knew I was a girl. I have friends who because of not receiving help and not being understood when they asked for help ended up becoming addicted to heroin as a coping mechanism only to transition eventually in their early 20s mostly, some have committed suicide even because they think it's too late for them as puberty has done too much damage and they'd never pass, it's tragic because this outcome was preventable. When a teen girl gets acne it is horrendous to her self image, a HSTS gets acne, not only does she think she's ugly but also that I'm so hideous I'll never pass and must be a boy now, we're very very agreeable and suffering tremendously, it's not hard to manipulate us into being "gay men", I was told if I didn't no one would ever love me, I desisted because I wanted people to leave me alone, if you are not a trans kid you can't comprehend the pressure cooker we live in. I desisted for the same reason people sign false confessions. There are true pre-transsexual children and transsexual adolescents, we're HSTS and very rare, forcing such a child to go through puberty is nothing short of sick and this is a hill I'll happily die on. Being trans has become a trend but I will not let those truly transsexual kids suffer because of it without speaking my mind.
And ....even post operative trans are still not happy and contemplate or commit suicide...so it's not the panacea you claim and although you're happy to die on that hill don't take other people's children with you based on by your own admission a trend...

But that aside if we cannot vote till we are 18 isnt as simple as keep the age of consent for this type of stuff at 18. That's more of a right wing narrative than a thing. Trans care is serious thing and trans people don't want it going to the wrong people at least as much as anyone else maybe more, since we understand first hand the feeling of dysphoria that comes with an incongruity between gender and body. We don't want anyone else to make a mistake and end up experiencing the very dysphoria we work hard to escape. Its only when people decide they need to advocate against transition at all for others that people get upset. Trans people are overwhelmingly happy with thier choice to transition. We have lots of data on this. We will not be oppressed by people who are fooled by media that is only showing them rare edge cases.

There are also a lot of undiagnosed autistic women who have/had anorexia & now there are a lot of trans people who are clearly autsitic too. A lot of later diagnosed adult have noticed the trends but academics take ages to catch up. Hell the Doctors are just realizing that female autsitic people exist & that their symtoms list being based on boys might have skewed the diagnosis process!
It's scary to me that the medical professionals & those who follow the woke ideology are saying "a lot of autistic people are trans" no, they just they think they are because they are mentally suffering & are being mislead. Being trans, or even "queer" is providing a social group where they are, for once, being listened to, fitting in & being accepted.
As a retired surgeon, I can only express absolute horror with regard to the medical fraternity recommending and undertaking these procedures. The affirmation surgery itself will always be rife with fraught complications. Lives are ruined and the politicians, particularly in the USA, must be held accountable.

mental heals sucks big time ... there is no easy solution trust me because my autism and ADHD life is extremely hard but you have to really understand it and give the right support and its not always best to do what that person says .. for me for example the best way to help me is to push me forward because my natural reaction to everything is avoid it because i KNOW ill do badly at it ... same for these young kids .. they may WANT to transition but how do you know if the best thing for them is to make them hold the phone and wait until they are older? they may not like it but in the long run they might really appreciate it.

I’ve also told her that she needs to go towards being talked to Congress about this needs to be highly witnessed about what’s going on with her children same way with Cara KIERA they need to go and witness to Congress about what’s going on with the children. They need to be at a certain age before the surgery is done they need to be adults to make up a decision. The hormones need to be completely developed in their minds completely developed before they need to make this decision. Their lives are being absolutely destroyed. I’m hearing this over and over and over again. And now we’re teaching this in school to our young young children starting in kindergarten on up. This does not need to be in school. Until society accepts the diversity of human beings so that transitioning is no longer the only option for some people, nothing will change. People are bombarded with idealised versions of male and female and not everyone fits society's expectations. Some men are more feminine and some girls are more masculine.
This could be down to foetal androgens influencing the development of the brain. We need more research into the biological factors at play.
In my case I am pretty sure I had an imbalance in my foetal development which masculinised my brain. I am a non binary female by the way who did consider transitioning at one time but decided not to.

Puberty blockers wasn't right for one person in a 100 so now you want to take it away from the other 99. How about counseling when someone is going through transition so mistakes like this don't happen? Where is the middle ground to help those who can't handle their secondary sex characteristics and ones that will follow? I'd gladly pay a 5% surcharge/tax to help detransitioners on any transgender medical procedure that I have.

In the UK you can't drink alcohol or smoke tobacco products under the age of 18. You can't vote, can't drive etc... Yet we live in a world where it's ok for a child of any age to identify as the opposite sex to the one they're born into, that act of self-identification allows for that child to be placed on puberty blockers, change names and how they want to be addressed. Parents, mental health professionals, doctors and others not only allow this, they encourge it through affirmation and support. I understand to an extent why parents go along with the process, we all want to do what's right for our children even when there are times when we feels it's wrong, we may go along because we want to be supportive. For the rest, all of those professionals working as clinicians, their managers and those in government that santion this behaviour, they're all guilty of neglect, guilty of abuse. It is an experiment, they know it is, they must. To have studied at the level needed to gain their degrees and profesional qualifications means they're capable of analytical thought, of reasoning. In this area they choose to switch off that ability because they're afraid to rock the boat...

This is incredibly superficial journalism. In an ideal situation, a young person should have been assessed comprehensively by a psychiatrist for the diagnosis of gender identity disorder. They should also have been assessed for Gillick's competence. These assessments and tests SHOULD be rigorous, but if Keira had had those assessments done appropriately, then she would have given valid informed consent.
Making an unwise decision is different from being incapable of making a decision. Someone with Gillick's competence who has been adequately psychoeducated and counselled should be ABLE to make these decisions. Do people make decisions they later regret? Sure. But that doesn't mean they were exploited or manipulated into making any decisions. Careful examination of the actual assessments made by the doctors should shed more light on the issue, more so than 1-sided accusations and lamentations anyway.
If there is EVIDENCE of mismanagement on Tavistock's part, i.e. Keira was not properly assessed, then yes, I would think she has a case. Otherwise, it should NOT have overridden the precedence that is Gillick's.
The principle that young persons, if adequately assessed to have capacity to consent to medical procedures, should be allowed to do so, should absolutely be defended against such assaults.

Doctors shouldn't be allowed to give experimental treatments to patients whose cognition is compromised due to having a serious mental condition.
People with those kinds of issues CAN'T consent.
She was a mentally unwell vulnerable adult. Depression & anxiety (as well as PTSD & OCD which is common in detransitioners) are known to inhibit people being able to think clearly, having poor self esteem, struggling to function. They are promised that transitioning will help these issues & then it doesn't. They have been mislead, lied too & are too mentally disabled to be able to make choices. My friend is on disability benefits due to his mental health problems, it's a recognized disabling condition. In regards to mental health awareness people preach about how it affects all aspects of peoples lives, how awful the symtoms can be ... Yet, like you, don't seem to take it that extra step & realize it could, & does, affect people's thinking about their own identity. Professionals are suppose to help guide them, seperate the emotion, look at the facts & encourage introspection, not just take their word for it, or actively encourage them to transition.
Do you really think these medical professionals who agreed & told these people they are trans, when they aren't, often causing irreversible body changes, should hold none of the blame?
