The cast iron regulator that comes with the egg works just as good. I have never had the issues you claim. Also because I keep it in a carport I just leave the regulator on, don't need the cap and it smothers the fire just fine.
If you keep them out of the weather they work ok, but if you have them exposed it is not good. Rain collects in the dimples and then drips into the egg. Then mold grows and the ceramic gets wet. If your not careful the base will crack (water in the ceramic) But they still work, I just like the new style! Stay safe!
@@BackdraftBBQ BGE states you still need a cover to keep rain out so the rain cover is an additional charge. Also you stated that you can not keep the air regulator from moving from a set setting when the dome is lifted. That is not true, just turn the cast regulator so it is inline with the egg. You also stated that the cast iron regulator can not put out the fire when done. That is complete hogwash. Just close the vent and fire will go out pronto. So you are misleading people into spending an additional $100 for something that they don't event need.
sweetsilage To keep rain out when you are grilling you need a cap. But not when the Egg is just chilling. Just got rid of my old daisy wheel after 5 years in the salt air and replaced with this. The rEggularor is simple and easy and I think a major upgrade. Daisy wheel may be helpful when people are starting out but for experienced BGE users I think it’s well worth the money when you need a new vent. Is it worth running out and buying right away as a newbie probably not.
My rEGGulator doesn't fit snug. It sits on the chimney but doesn't have a lot of resistance. Doesn't feel like it's going to fall off, but yours needed some effort to get it seated. Are there any tricks?
I’ve had my regulator stick in me when I go to open it for the next cook. I even had one break the top piece that slides broke off. But big green egg gave me a new one since it was under warranty still. Is there a way to keep it from doing this that you know of? Cause my new one does stick at times too.
Oh no! If you have this style, take the rubber nub off and brown it on the grate after a cook. It will burn off any junk that might make it stick. If it is one of the old styles, throw it in the coals after a cook if it's really bad. It will clean it up good, but you will need to re-season it.
BGE treats it with a "rust inhibitor coating" to prevent it from rusting. I feel your pain, my daisy wheels always stuck. I have been using two of the new ones for almost a year and they look like the day I got them. This was probably the best upgrade I have done to the egg. And they dont stick in the cold weather either.
I have that exact regulator. The Screw still rusts (here in FL) and breaks off. On my second one now

Great video! If you clean your smokecap every so often with oven cleaner, you won't have that sliding issue.
cswardrebel thanks for the tip! Pete
Good call!
Messed with another screw so I could make the old regulator “stick”so to speak. Now when I open, it stays in place

Did you install the felt gasket around the top of the egg? The gasket should be installed as low as possible as the egg is tapered
What's your cut

"Wicked rugged not gonna rust". Yea um ok. My daisy wheel is nothing but rust. What are you talking about?
