I've been playing platelock since the season start and I haven't really been able to make it work outside of being fun. I have never had a time where demon-form WON me a fight I would have lost otherwise and many times where I wish I had phantomize instead. I feel like 35% PDR is basically nothing, especially with every class having innate access to armor pen. You have 0% PDR to a rogue with a dagger and 10% PDR to a cleric, which are the meta classes. Even at 35% PDR your EHP is barely affected. You need at least 66%PDR to have any noticeable gain in HP over just running +HP and vigor on your gear. It always comes back to caster lock with MS and 150HP being tankier, faster casting speed, and more damage than a build like this because of how armor pen and match-ups work. If you opt to run a racecar platelock build with chapel, light gauntlets, fine cuirass, loose, and lightfoots; with AR on everything and a good heater shield you can reach ~60%PDR and ~290-300MS; which is the breakpoint of where racecar fighter starts to work. Demon form does make you stronger than a fighter, but anyone can out-run you and the meta is clerics who are untouchable in a melee fight. Honestly, the best effect I've had for fighting clerics is to bait their smite and just phantomize on top of them; then take the 1v1 after their skills are on CD. Otherwise, even with 70% PDR in demon form with 180HP; a smite cleric will still 3-4 shot you (I've tried). The only benefit of heavy platelock is that you don't insta die to rogues, which can generally be avoided with good awareness on caster lock. This video shows you being a good warlock and doesn't show demon form being a benefit. Everything done here could have been done better with a more traditional caster lock and phantomize, sadly. I would like to see you take a stab at a more traditional PDR fighter build on warlock though. I think dark bolt is better than a fighter with a bow and bloodstained is one of the best buffs in the game. Aim for 290-300MS with a minimum of 50% PDR and phantomize. Try to play it like you would a PDR fighter. I found that Dark Plate is a better choice, especially with anti-magic because it makes you basically immune to wizards, helps with the cleric match-up; and has better MS. I feel like this build isn't even a plate build and I'd like to see something more focused on a PDR play-style. ♥
There's also the tech of ES + PoS; which absorbs the damage from PoS while giving you access to the darkness damage buff, ~30HP, and 15 phys power. Without bloodstained my Kris was hitting 75-81 dummy headshot in a full PDR kit with grims with 194HP. I still died to a smite/divine shield cleric in cloth though lmao. It would be a TON of buffing, but you could run ES, PoS, and bloodstain but you'd sacrifice hydrain or ranged; which I never tried.
Ngl, reducing your cast speed by 10% just to use a light plate hat and plate gauntlets really doesn't seem like a good trade-off. You can just use a leather cap and riveted/reinforced gloves with armor rolls, and you'll basically have the same stats + empty perk slot and faster cast speed.
my build i swap demon armor with vampirism for more hp from drain / strikes. i use leather chausess, lightfoots, leather gloves (bc theyre cheap), leather cap, occultist tunic, cloak of darkness, triple agi jewels and i have 320 MS, 180 AR, 145hp in a pretty cheap kit since no one buys occ tunics/leather gloves. youre not getting that much out of demon armor for the -10% cast speed and -1 perk slot. I also like running curse of weakness over flame walker (personal pref). If you land 1 curse of weakness you can send it and win even if you're gear gapped.

Maybe I'm crazy for asking this but do you think the issue stands with how it feels to fight/lose/win against them and how the varying warlock playstyles play or do you think it's more an overall class design issue and the class' mechanical themes should be changed as a whole?
It’s a class that’s really punishing if you don’t know the match up. Good players can play around and take advantage of the things warlock wants to do. For less experienced players, it feels like they’re arm wrestling their dad. They can’t get or hold onto an advantage.

I guess but you better make sure you can catch them in time or you’re out 30 hp for free. Bloodstained in contrast is only 2hp if things don’t go as planned
You can use Eldritch Shield to absorb the damage taken from PoS; so you only lose 5HP, gain ~30HP and 15 phys power, and benefit from the darkness damage buff of the shield if you run Dark Reflection. However, this is a lot to pre-buff and you lose out on important spell slots. I ran a plate set with 160HP and ~61% PDR with 290MS; while buffed with PoS I had 194HP and my kris hit for 75-81 damage.
