      Hi Vivian, I really enjoyed watching your review of the Fasta Pasta. I'm like you Vivian, I would rather boil a pot of water and then cook the pasta.

      There is a groove around the bottom of the fasta pasta that keeps pasta from boiling over.

    I have never timed it but when you make pasta in a pot, first you have to bring the water to a boil which probably takes 5 minutes depending on the size of your pot. Then cooking the pasta takes another 10-15 minutes. And you have to keep stirring it so the pasta doesn't stick to the bottom of the pot. I think this might be faster. But I don't know what the deal is with the lid, and I've never really found pasta measuring holes to be very accurate.

    I have one and love it. My lid does snap on so maybe yours is defective...just exchange it. As for pasta, even for one person, it takes 10 minutes to boil water then another 8-10 for the pasta to cook. It also takes one bot and one stainer to cook then clean. With Fasta Pasta, its 12 minutes total (no boil time) and one container to clean. I sometimes get so lazy, I pour sauce right into the Fasta Pasta. I love mine.

    Vivian!!! Let me tell you a story about the fasta pasta. (I apologize in advance for how long this comment is.) and The other night, I had plans to go over to my moms to make my grandma's baked spaghetti for her. It's pretty labor-intensive so I decided to go buy a FP because I thought it would take a little work out of the process and also I thought it would be fun to try out the product with my mom. I swear to you, girl, I went to AT LEAST 5 or 6 different stores in Nashville, Nashville is a big city is the capital of Tennessee so you would think at least one store would have it. WRONG! I called about 15 other stores besides the ones that I went to in person. So.... I resort to cooking the spaghetti noodles the old-fashioned way. I arrive at my moms I'm getting ready to prepare the ingredients for the spaghetti, and I tell her about the FP and how I've been looking for it all day long. She goes "oh I have one of those!" And she goes over to the pantry and pulls it right out. Yep. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

    I have had the blue Pasta N More pasta cooker for years. I use mine alot. I like it because I don't have to stand over it and worry if the starchy water is going to overflow all over my stove. I just fill it and put it in the microwave then slide on the lid and drain. It makes perfect pasta everytime.

  • @MrCubberMTL

    So let's do some math: Old fashion way - 5 minutes to boil water + 10 to 12 minutes to cook pasta = 15 to 17 minutes total. Fasta Pasta - 12 minutes total in the microwave. You still save 3 to 5 minutes with Fasta Pasta. As for the problem with the lid, use a strainer. You'd use one anyway the old fashion way. Also, less energy used with the microwave than the stove (if electric). And on top of that, use the steam generated in the microwave from cooking the pasta to clean it and i just saved you a few bucks, you don't have to purchase the Angry Mama! ;-)

    • @venividivici20
      @venividivici20 7 років тому +3

      Power usage between a microwave and stove would be fairly negligible overall. Time to cook pasta is also just a guideline really. Pasta can be cooked in as little as 4 minutes. You could even go with a thinner noodle like capellini (below spaghettini, above angel hair) which cooks in 4-6 minutes. My concern with microwave cooking is you could end up overcooking the pasta in allotted cook time from the instructions.
      Honestly you're better off only using this if a microwave is your only source for cooking if you do not have a stove/hot plate.

    • @Tiffanydw4
      @Tiffanydw4 6 років тому +1

      Dyno Minier I was thinking the same thing, I couldn’t understand what the 12 upset was about because this included getting the water hot enough which you would need to consider in time on the stove. Totally not saying I would use it but 12 minutes isn’t bad for regular size spaghetti 🍝 noodles

    I don't have one of these..however, if you add the time it takes to get the water boiling on the stove..say..average 8 mins. , then 12 to 15 mins. For an al dente pasta... that's about 20ish mins , so 12 min in microwave isn't super long, keep up the great reviews, I enjoy your straightforwardness and honest reactions :)

  • @CharlesLe-thephotographer
    @CharlesLe-thephotographer 7 років тому +5

    I think it's great for is intended purpose. the only fault is that the lid should have a latch to stay on. in the 12 minutes you could be making your sauce for the pasta and making your salad. You don't have to keep your eyes on the pot of water and worry about over cooking and under cooking. Also, you're forgetting that it takes longer than 12 minutes doing it the regular way because first you have to wait for the water to boil and then you have to cook the pasta for 12 minutes, so it's more like 20 minutes. It doesn't seem like this would work for more than a few servings, but if that's all you need then it's a good solution

    • @Vivian_Tries
      @Vivian_Tries  7 років тому

      +Charles Le yeah, I agree for 1-2 people this may be a good solution... but for more than 2+ servings just go the normal stovetop way 😊thanks Charles

    I love how real you are, keep up the good work! I like how this product at least help with portion control and sizes. I agree that 12 minutes in a microwave is a bit excessive however, just like you said it may be God for a single person or even college kids who don't stoves but have access to microwaves. That plastic seemed to be good quality for the lid to not stay on. was the handles cool to the touch like it said? thanks for this review.

    I love watching your videos. I have had the fasta pasta for several years, and I consider it fantastic. To measure the portions of the spaghetti on the broken ones, it is best with the lid on, and then remove it to cook them in the microwave. For me, it is much faster, since on the stove it is about 20 minutes.

    I have one. Maybe I'm a sucker for stupid gadgets - but I like mine. For hut a few eating, it works ok. I don't use the portion measurement thing I've been around a long time and can gauge a portion of spaghetti.
    I have tried other pastas -penne, macaroni, etc - and I have had good and bad results. Not consistent. I will keep mine but if I had to live without it, I wouldn't miss it much.

    Got an idea on how to use that measuring hole thingy. While it is ON the cooker part, take a hand's worth of spaghetti, place it over the hole, relax your grip. it should slip down into the cooker with the excess staying on top. Slightly tighten the grip and lift your hand.

    I've tried Fasta Pasta, Pasta Boat and the Rapid Pasta Cooker, and the only one that has been close to being worth it for me has been Pasta Boat, with the strainer in the lid that slides on and slips closed. The Pasta Boat is better constructed, with thicker plastic, and the 'recipe book' is more realistic with measurements.....and unlike the others, it suffers from overboil less. However, if you are making a large amount of pasta, nothing will beat a standard pot on the stove. (As an aside, I used to use the Fasta Pasta but trashed it because of how hot the whole darn thing would get, and stopped using the Rapid Pasta Cooker because no matter what I did, it would overboil in the Microwave, causing a big mess)
    It's a shame you don't have a PO box we can send things to, Vivian, because I would be flooding your mailbox with stuff to try. The Rapid Mac Cooker has completely taken over how I make Mac n Cheese from a box (granted, I only do the original Kraft Mac n Cheese from the box which works out PERFECT, but it can do others from trial and error, which I know you don't do, so stick with the standard Blue Boc Original Kraft Mac n Cheese)

    • @MrCubberMTL
      @MrCubberMTL 7 років тому +8

      How long does it take to bring that pot of water to a boil? 5 minutes? So, making pasta the old fashion way would take you more or less 17 minutes. So technically, you just save 5 minutes with the Fasta Pasta... sorry, I had to play devil's advocate.

    • @MrCubberMTL
      @MrCubberMTL 7 років тому +4

      Again, your giant pot of pasta will require more water, which will take longer to bring to a boil, extending the cooking time (the same for Fasta Pasta, a minute more per portion). But, I agree, if you're cooking for an army, Fasta Pasta is useless, it wasn't designed for that. This product should be advertised for college students with only a microwave or if you want to cook pasta for yourself at the office lol

    • @nancyd2687

    The lid on mine goes on fine. I use it when I just want to make a single serving of noodles. It's less clean-up than a pot and a separate strainer and maybe saves 5 minutes. But, if I'm going to make a big portion, a casserole dish of macaroni for instance, boiling it on the stove like normal is much easier.

    • @Vivian_Tries

    Maybe hold the pasta closer to the end you are putting through the hole it would not spread out like that, Second the lid does not snap on it just sits on the container and you hold it on the sides with that flap on each side to drain. Just some friendly tips for your viewers :)

    • @abigguitar
      @abigguitar 7 років тому +2

      Three Vivian heads is a fair rating. Fasta Pasta cooks pasta and it does it well, which is the expected end result of any cooker. I agree with the docking of 2 stars for the misrepresentation that it cooks pasta faster than the stove top method. In fact, the cooking process is exactly the same as on the stove. The microwave only heats water faster. So, the cooking starts a little sooner than on the stove. If the literature had been truthful rather than putting the As-seen-on-TV spin fakery on it, I think Vivian may have given it a higher rating.
      As Vivian alluded in her comment, it doesn't support cooking more than 4 portions at a time. If you need to cook more pasta than this, you'd do better to use a pot.
      I personally find that cooking pasta or rice from cold water in any microwave cooker tends to produce lesser final results... pasta being the best of the worst. Instead, I recommend putting cold water into the container, microwaving the water alone till hot, then placing the food into the hot water and finish the cooking.
      I'd personally give one star back to Fasta Pasta only because of its versatility as a cooker. You can also cook hot dogs, rice, straight ramen, steamed veggies and a whole corn on the cob (single) in it. For a single person or a student cooking meals in a dorm room, it's a great cooking tool. For large families, not so much.
      Also, I want to dispel this lid business. The lid does not fasten, latch or otherwise seal closed. It only sits loosely on top. It is only intended to help hold the food in while straining water and to measure pasta. Does it really matter from where the water drains (i.e., the holes or under the lid)? As long as it holds the food in properly while draining without spilling food, that's what matters. And, it does that. Fasta Pasta prevents you from having to buy / soil / use a strainer or colander (which those things aren't cheap if you're on a student budget).

    Spaghetti takes 8-9 minutes AFTER water comes to a boil. Does your stove boil water in 3 minutes? Of course not. The Fasta Pasta is amazing and a time saver.

    maybe while the pasta is in the microwave you can cook the sauce or something else to complete the meal.

    I love watching infomercials. I like how they always depict people as being completely dumb when doing everyday tasks. Who the hell is gonna just throw a pot of water and noodles into a strainer? I'm so incompetent that straining noodles is impossible, so I should buy that dumb thing. C'mon. Loved the video!

    • @Vivian_Tries
      @Vivian_Tries  7 років тому

      I've started keeping all of them even the ones that suck. If I hear enough from peeps in my comments telling me that I've done something wrong with the way I used it or if everyone is still raving about it, I will use it again in a Re-Do Wednesday video. After that, they are given away, donated or trashed :)

    Use micro bowl according to portion size (if needed crack long spagetti in half)
    if boiling little portion size, count boiling time plus 1 minute
    if boiling big portion size, count boiling time plus 2 minutes
    the water in micro needs time to boil as well
    i boil 1 portion 4 minutes spagetti/nudles for 5 minutes in my micro
    for one portion i just use my spatula (with holes in) as a fast strainer
    works perfect for me, save time, save money

    Update: 10/08/2017
    I did test this thing with Great Value Vermicelli, 2 servings 12 min worked good. I used the thin time as this variety is not listed. Over many cycles we do not know how long it will last and yes I did shield my micro with lead to be certain I'm protected.. :) Kidding people.. My Panasonic 2013 microwave Inverter 1200 watt does take out my Logitech Bluetooth headset from 15 feet so there is something going on with Micros these days. Easy and it does work just walk away from the Microwave..

    I love your videos, so it feels weird to dislike.
    The product is not doing what it's supposed to and it doesn't match up with the hype. Heat warps plastic, something common sense, and explains why the lid won't fit. Also trying to place it loosely while pouring hot water is hazardous.
    After seeing you with a real demo has saved me from a waste of my money & time, and likely from being scalded.
    Thank you very much.

      +Elaine Marie I've been using my Fasta Pasta for over a year and it's not warped at all. However, it does get quite hot while cooking. So, yes, you would need to hold it with an oven mitt or better, another as-seen-on-TV product, the *Ove Glove*. :) Never been scalded by using it. As long as you're careful when handling hot items, you're fine.

    However while I was thinking watching this video I was thinking that this pasta cooker think would be perfect for kids who want pasta after school or something, for people who just moved into a house or apartment and don't have a stove ether because it broke or they are unwilling to use the stove because they are to immature to watch the stove to make sure they don't burn down the house or other reasons of the such but I don't think I will ever buy this product. Thank you for trying all of these products out so that I don't have to buy something that may or may not work. 👍

  • @debbieeeCo
    @debbieeeCo 7 років тому +1

    When plastic gets hot it shrinks and warps so that's probably why the lid doesn't fit on the base correctly right now, because it was on there nicely when you first took it out of the box.

    I am the single person you describe and the only way I would use it if I had no stove and only a microwave. I lived overseas for a year where there was only a gas stove. I'm scared of gas stoves (my mother caught her hair on fire when I was little and I just can't get near them) so I lived off raw foods and microwave. THEN the spaghetti thing might come in handy.
