Very different? Nah, they are very similar, actually, even though Icelandic / Norse / Faroese etc have a very unique / different aspect at first sight, being the only group of languages using those letters, however, most words are cognates in all Germanic languages, especially most words that are used the most, like lots of those verbs and prepositions and the most used adjectives and the names of most animals and most words that reflect an element of nature or a fruit or vegetable etc, they usually come from the same root word and still look similar, plus they use the same sounds and diphthongs, so most of the vowels and sounds in Icelandic and Norse also exist in English and in some other Germanic languages, while other sounds like ö also exist in German / Swedish / Norwegian etc - I am learning all the foreign Germanic languages, and I have learnt over 2.000 words in Icelandic and in Old Norse so far, and I have come across tons of cognates that I could immediately recognize, there are really so many of them, waiting for the learner to discover them, so, even if it looks very different at first sight because of the different letters ð and þ and the different word endings an the many vowels with accents, most words are cognates, so they come from the same root words, and one can usually recognize them, especially if one pays attention to each word and if one knows the sounds that those two letters represent, namely the eth letter and the thorn letter, which are the TH sounds in English words like that and think etc, the eth being an approximant of d, while the thorn being an approximant of t, so knowing this, one can recognize a lot of cognates, which would be spelled with a th in English or with a t or d in other Germanic languages!

I actually do use Google Translate and occasionally other online translators but I use Wiktionary and other sources to help me correct the grammar and wording as much as I know how and of course I have friends who help or just translate the stuff themselves but of course they can't always do it so I usually do it on my own.

Many compliments on the diva outfit, is nice; also I think it is not necessary nor useful but I'll brief you a little bit and those who didn't watch the react video on what they did there, as you said, they got some bilingual reactors, the idea was that they would put some famous quotes through different languages on the translator and the reactors had to guess what the original message was. Finally, I have to say that I am surprised to know that Jacket is a male word and book a female word, it is the opposite of Spanish and I am mindblown now. Thanks for the vids.

One strange thing is that for unknown reason Google Translate makes the V sound to sound like a M sound, like the word ''svo'' it sound like a '''smo'' it when you play it!
I don't know why is that way pronounced Icelandic in Google Translate, but no doubt that this language have very interestin pronounciatiionm, because actually has changed very less through out those hundreds of years and when I heard it, it sound very old, but also very interesting! Thank you for this video, it will help me to pronounce icelandic easier! Greetings from Bulgaria! :)

It's so cool! As a Swede I hear Icelandic as a mix between Swedish and Norwegian with a Finnish pronunciation, with some own words!

This was a very nice video! Sometimes I laugh a little using oinline translators to translate into spanish. You should become a translator at a publishing house and translate those book tou tlaked about in other video.

I'd love to hear your thoughts about For Honor's Viking voice lines. I'm pretty sure they are Icelandic.
Any chance you would review it?

I want to travel the Scandinavian countries and would learning iclandic phrases be the best to learn and will Denmark Norway and Sweden peoples be able to understand it or are they too different and I would have to just rely on google translate?
