Iceland's Westfjords, Aug 2023

- Опубліковано 15 сер 2024
- A spontaneous 10 day trip to Iceland, at the time of flight & camper car bookings intended as a visit to the live eruption on Reykjanes. However, I anticipated the eruption might stop before I arrive, so I also planned for a visit to the Westfjords region in the NW of Iceland, including a 4D/3N hike in the amazing Hornstrandir nature reserve, to see Arctic Foxes, Puffins and more.
In the end, I spent just 1 day hiking to the sleeping volcano, and the rest in Westfjords, namely in/around Holmavik, Isafjördur, Hornstrandir & Latrabjarg. I did meet Arctic Foxes in Hornstrandir - mainly cubs in the vicinity of camp sites, but due to a cold/flu hitting me rather badly during my Hornstrandir hike, it was only in Latrabjarg that I managed to be at the sea cliffs at the right evening time, to finally have long-awaited close encounters with Puffins returning from a day at sea.
I couldn't have asked for a more satisfactory end to my journey :-)
Hope you'll enjoy some of my footage.
Cheers

A truely magnificent, remote, bleak and varied landscape, it looks like photography heaven on steroids 😀
TQ Chris! Barren landscapes like this often have lots of life, for us to discover if we take the time.
That said, I do love the humbling feeling of being a 'tiny human' in the midst of a seemingly barren, grand, natural landscape 😊
How wonderful to see these pictures, Inge!!!
It was a pleasure to meet you and I'm so glad you found the puffins!
(Let me steal your sentence from above:"I couldn't have asked for a more satisfactory end to my journey :-)" Me as well :-) The race was great great great and faster than ever!
The sunbathing seal and you teached me: If you see something beautiful on the wrong path, it is NOT the wrong path!
All the best! annika
TQ Annika! 🙏🏼
It was indeed a pleasure to meet, and I'm very happy your journey also got a satisfactory ending! 😊
Btw, the right name of the Icelandic fish/potato dish I like is "Plokkfiskur" - sorry to have stated wrong name (in case you tried to find it in a restaurant)
Wish you many more satisfactory hikes & runs, and maybe we'll meet again somewhere 🙂
Take care,
Inge
