I was in a deadhead bar in Denver and the jukebox was filled with all kinds of bootlegs from all over on cd and being from long island ny I looked over and on the wall was a poster of 1 of their shows at the Nassau Coliseum. so fitting!. Place was also haunted Great memories
I was there. A lot of Hells Angels in the audience which was weird when you're high, but it was epic. First Terrapin at this show, and they were on top of their game, very tight, because they had just finished recording Terrapin Station in Van Nuys right before the concert. It and Winterland in March '77 were a couple of my favorite shows ever. I saw every show on the West Coast in '77, an epic year. Oh, to be 23 years old again. Good memories.
I was at the Mastering Studio that was my friends buddy side gig Creating the final tape to vinyl. He played it over and over until it was perfect. Listen to the beginning. He re-did it over 20 times until it was perfect. This sounds almost exactly the same as album version.
I was at this show. The boys were really on their game. The crowd was very focused, I felt that almost everyone was dosed. Bob Hunter was leaning over an amp up on the stage watching the whole thing unfold.
It is fascinating to hear the massive amount of energy and focus they had in '77. It is undeniable they were playing with a new and different energy...whatever it was due to, it slowly waned over the year. I love each iteration of the band, but this period is most interesting. I know Jerry got a massive infection at some point but the changes in the music were inevitable since change was the Dead's most important element. But the snap to the few months of this golden year are truly remarkable. This might be the most underrated band of all time.
MAAAANNN Okie - This show!!! --- wow all the praise on TERRAPIN well deserved - Eyes alight with glowing hair.... but holy moly moly guacamole that " they Love each other." dang... both sets... just wow.... inspiration... move me brightly...
First set: 0:00 - Terrapin Station 11:00 - New Minglewood Blues 15:58 - They Love Each Other 23:00 - Estimated Prophet 30:10 - Sugaree 41:15 - Mama Tried 44:00 - Deal 49:50 - Playing in the Band 1:03:48 - The Wheel 1:11:32 - Playing in the Band Second set: 1:14:20 - Samson and Delilah 1:20:29 - Tennessee Jed 1:29:14 - The Music Never Stopped 1:35:30 - Help on the Way 1:40:32 - Slipknot! 1:48:50 - Franklin's Tower 2:02:15 - Promised Land 2:06:33 - Eyes of the World 2:17:55 - Dancing in the Street 2:28:14 - Around and Around 2:35:20 - U.S. Blues
Amazing show. Was at Winterland three weeks late; top of their game. Not that folks need reminding but Phil’s absolute genius is on full display on this recording. Thank you.
This is a great show-start to finish,i like the way they played terrapin first to introduce the new songs off the terrapin station album- estimated prophet also...Jerrys in good voice too- GO DEAD!!
Clint The Dead has so many good shows. I've listened to Cornell 77 so many times and it is good but so many more shows. Join us on Sundays at 7pm CST to hear a treat for the week. Good Deadheads and God Conversation about songs.
I know everyone may say this but I was there. Awesome place to see live rock. Saw so many of the Great Bands there. Cozy little place. It's long since gone, a plane crashed directly into it. The Berdo Fairgrounds
This is such a ROCKIN SET LIST TO SAY THE LEAST, AND THE BOYS & GIRL ARE PLAYIN THE HE'LL OUT OF IT. EXCELLENT QUALITY AS WELL. NOT MUCH TO SAY EXCEPT TO ENJOY THIS ONE.
For some, Cornell 77 is their favorite Dead show. Others say Dick's Picks 10 is their favorite. Not sure of the date, but I have it and in the booklet it says many consider it the best show the Dead ever did. For me, this is my favorite Dead show of all time! It was my first bootleg I ever bought and I got it on CD first and then I found it on cassette tape! I believe, but I do not know for fact, that this was the only show they ever opened with Terrapin Station. It was also the first time they ever played Terrapin AND Estimated Prophet! The Terrapin, Eyes, Dancin, Help/slipknot/Franklin's are some of the best ever! Thanks for sharing! Someone down below said this is Dick's Picks 29? I guess that's what they meant. They just wrote Dick's Picks 29 so I don't know for sure. Maybe that's just their favorite.
@@charlie.something dude, I hear ya. I'm not even a huge fan of Franklin's, but it sounds good, but the help>slipknot is music at its finest. I don't even discuss music with people that are into new stuff anymore. No matter how much I try to explain that combo, or Allman Brothers Fillmore East show or any other number of things, there are just some people who are incapable of ever understanding. When I discovered the late 70's Dancin I about lost my mind. I heard the 60's/early 70's version but this song finding it so early in my Dead adventures was awesome! I cannot sit still while it is playing. I've tried lol. I was fortunate enough a few years into my Dead collecting when I met a dude who told me about archive.org and it was when they still had the soundboards. He was burning certain years onto cd and I did others and we would fill up CD books and trade them and copy what the other had! I have so many shows from that it's crazy! Everything from 65-95 and even a bunch of stuff like acid tests, rehearsals for a new studio album, a whole album of just jams I've never heard anywhere else from them like the Stonehouse rehearsals is one, I have albums of new piano/keyboard players rehearsaling with the band in the beginning of their tenure, I have several things like the Grateful Dead movie, I have it's soundtrack AND I have all of the shows from that run in Winterland that they selected from for the soundtrack. I have the 2 Egypt 78 shows in their entirety and so much more. I literally hit the jack pot. About the time we got burnt out from constantly downloading shows they took off the soundboards and I think all of mine except maybe a couple are SB's. I have about 958 CD's worth of Dead! They have so much talent that these so called musicians of today look like a person doing shitty karaoke at a dive bar lol.
It was fun looking for all these pics. I was working with a student who is a newbie in the Grateful Dead and making videos so we worked on this for about a week. Thought it was a good way to teach newbies!
They were still experminting with Terrapin around this time. Also...it was brand new. They weren't exactly sure where it was going to go in the sets. They weren't even sure, right here, how many and which verses they were going to use. Miss them days. "Stopped to decide which way to go. . . ."🌹🌹
Okay Google! Have some respect. Three random ads interrupting Terrapin? Really!? Otherwise thanks Oakie. Great shows. Thanks for tempering my sanity in these trying times. I so miss those late 70s early 80s days!
Y'all feel free to associate with one another and we're going to do the same backstage... This is one of the best nights of 77 thanks Okie help slip is really just great..
Around and around! Bobby and Donna rockin! What a crazy sound! I Love every version of the band. The Donna and Keith era kicks ass. Always a good idea to break up the sausage fest with some feminine energy.
what a weird setlist. Opening with Terrapin. Guess it hadn't yet settled into it's second set spot. And a standalone Estimated not part of an >Eyes. Neat watching how setlists developed.
WHAT?!? This show is a Dick's Picks???? No way! This is my favorite show off all time from the Dead! I love it more than Cornell 77. I'll have to look into that. Thanks!
Without a doubt now under rated and somewhat being forgotten in that the entire world seems to on its wind down prior to the death rattle it will be letting go with as it's very close to giving up the Ghost. Going out with a whimper . Never thought I'd be in the Generation to see it happen. Get right God. Looked like it's all gonna come true very shortly.
Hey Okie, I’m a young head out west who can’t get enough of the shows you post. Thanks so much for what you do ⚡️ I really appreciate it ☮️
You are so welcome
Good for you kid . I like hearing about young fans

RIP Phil, thanks for the music.
Thanks Okie!!!
Quantitative Quality through and through Thank-you
Damn the first Terrapin! Jerry was On that night. So proud of his new Masterpiece.
Thanks again Okie. 17 years old that year. Got into the Dead 1974 loved them since.

lucky you.... how tempting it must have been in those days to follow them when you were young.
I was at the Mastering Studio that was my friends buddy side gig Creating the final tape to vinyl. He played it over and over until it was perfect. Listen to the beginning. He re-did it over 20 times until it was perfect. This sounds almost exactly the same as album version.

If Terrapin doesnt make you float into an unknown space you aren’t doing it right.
When it was played on this date,Terrapin was a rare and different tune
First Terrapin. IWT.
Many thanks from the Canadian Deadheads!!!!!
Terrapin and Estimated before Sugaree . Must be the only time . What a unique show breaking out all the new material . Only Fire is missing .
