First you look amazing in your suits. Second thanks for showing real life sewing not just only the perfect parts. I think a lot of people give up when they see fake videos of only the perfect version instead of real life .
Thank you! I gotta show it all--I have challenges on almost every new project (and also on the ones I've done over and over haha)! It's all part of the learning process :)
Fantastic real sewing challenges video. I really enjoyed it. I often feel discouraged to sew because I get so many dud outcomes but your perseverance is so motivating… I know I’m not alone. May I ask why you chose not to tension the elastic. On all other swimwear videos I’ve watched, people tend to hold the elastic back. Were you happy with the way the elastic “held” when you wore it?
I sooo appreciate the honesty of the difficulty of making a swimsuit. Everyone says they are so easy but the elastic makes it so challenging and different techniques don't always work. Yours came out amazing and I love that you made your own patterns. 💖
You are one brave woman! Your perseverance really paid off. I absolutely love the green one (your fave) and l enjoyed seeing you have fun with styling. Having the right tool for the job (elastic foot) always helps. Kudos to you, Casey. 😎
Bravo - I made my first swimwear 35 years ago, no clue what I was doing but there was no stopping me. Pre fast fashion days, and internet😱 I was poor but determined. Well done 💕
Can I say how much I love your accent when you're fed up, lol? 😂 So cute and relatable (though I start to sound like my PR mother). You are so talented! It is such a relief to see you still learning and discovering by trial and error. There is always more to learn and no one is born knowing how to whip up a swimsuit. I don't know why I get such anxiety trying something new. For everything I can do, there was a time when I didn't have a clue. To the journey! 🥂
Great video. I love how you’re confident enough to show your failed attempts. Your tenacity inspires me to not give up. I always learn things this way and I sure learn things from your “fails” as well. BTW I’ve been sewing for almost 60 years! 😅 AND I still love it.
I used to make my own swim suits. There are patterns and great materials for them. I also used the top pattern to make halter tops (in the 70s when I was a teenager).
These turned out amazing. I really appreciate you showing all the difficulties because it’s so helpful and informative. Very helpful for problem solving and understand options for techniques. Great work!
The exact bottoms that you showed at the beginnings as your inspiration were the ones I wanted but couldn’t justify buying…that also started my swimsuit sewing journey!!!!
I take my hat off to you for persevering with your sewing project. The swimsuits looks amazing....quite professional-looking actually. I hope to have the same drive when I attempt to make myself a 2-piece before the summer season.
I realize this video is from 11 months ago…I LOVE the green swimsuit so much! I would really like to add the cute ruffles to my swim tops! Maybe someday when you are finished working on your home renovation you could do a tutorial?
This is why I love your channel Casey. You go on a journey with your sewing sometimes, not always certain how things will work, but you always find a way to figure things out. I love how these have turned out, the green one is so cute, love the frill. You are so cleaver and patient, I bet there were times when you felt like throwing the towel in. But your persistence paid off 🤗🤗🤗🤗
Wow, you did a great job and inspired me to make myself a swimsuit also, made some for my daughter earlier, but I think I can make this for myself also. And good for you for sharing your 'fails', that's really encouraging me to start and just do it!
They turned out so cute! I love the shape of the neckline of the tops, and the ruffles on the gorgeous green one are a sweet feature. It really shows how the key to good sewing is just perseverance. As un-fun as that may be, pushing through when it gets frustrating, and trying new approaches when Plans A and B fail... it is worth it in the end. One brand that seems to do reversible swimsuits really well (judging just from their website, I haven't seen them IRL), is Visual Mood. I think the reason they work is that they solve for the wrong side peeking out issue right at the design stage, by using the same colour fabric at the edges (e.g. their Grace or Amelia one-pieces). The fabrics for the Grace have to be custom made, so not easily replicated at home, but the yellow Amelia style features a plain/solid colour on one side and a pattern with the same base colour on the reverse, so it wouldn't matter if the reverse side made a sneaky appearance. Also some of their other models feature binding at the edges, so it's equally visible regardless of which way you're wearing it, and it seems like that wouldn't be that difficult to do. I'm mean, more fiddly than I would want to deal with most days, but within the realms of possibility if you had the vision and the patience to achieve it.
Yes ma’am!! You should be proud of yourself for getting through all of that.🎉 I sew figure skating costumes and OML the learning curve was STEEP when I first started. I definitely wouldn’t call myself a professional, but I think everyone can say that it takes about 3-4 costumes/swimwear to really hone sewing with stretch fabric and elastic!
"Frankenbikini"🤣🤣🤣 Hey, you kept your sense of humor during the process! 💪🏽You caught me off guard with that description and I laughed out loud!!😂 THIS is one of my absolute FAVORITE videos. I have been wanting to make myself a swimsuit and now I feel equipped! 🌟 Didn't even know there was a presser foot for elastic!😮 HOW I never knew it after all these years of sewing I will never know! GAME CHANGER! These suits look FABULOUS and I truly hope you will come back and show us all the others you made when you get more elastic to finish them. 🌞 The look of satisfaction on your face tells the whole story! WELL DONE! 🎉
So glad you enjoyed it! I just couldn't stop with a Frankenbikini ;) That presser foot is for sure a game changer...made the process so much more enjoyable!
I absolutely love this video and that you included each attempt. Sewing can be so frustrating, especially when it feels like everyone else gets it right the first time. I love your finished swimsuits! You did a great job.
Wow!!! You just tackled my worst sewing experience - making a bathing suit; and you made it look easy. Thanks so much for including the mistakes! I've made many of them and so, so many more. Watching your video encourages me to try sewing a bathing suit again. Yours looked as if they came out great. Congratulations. Hmm... maybe before I sew a bathing suit I should try going to the gym! LOL That might inspire my design choice. 🙂
Wow! I have no idea how to sew but found your video somehow and really enjoyed taking the creative journey with you; I smiled the entire time. Great job and the final products are perfection. I too love the retro high waist/high leg cut and its so flattering...The green ruffle top is amazing! And yes, you look great in your swimsuits...great video and editing as well.
Great work! And so encouraging, since I’ve been wanting to make a swimsuit, but it’s scary. When you said that you didn’t realize that you had an elastic foot for your serger, I felt so weirdly connected to you, because I just recently discovered that I, too, had that foot. 😁 Also, watching you working through the frustrations made me think of how I would call my mom at times like that and ask her, “why do we even sew when it can be so irritating?” And her response was always, “because we just have to be making things.” And, of course she was right. ❤
this is a great tutorial! Especially since you struggled a bit and worked through it. The end pieces are gorgeous. love the red swimsuit top. It looks amazing on you.
Brava!! They turned out so cute!! And those colours are gorgeous on you. I've always wondered about the elasticator foot and whether I should get the one for my machine -- thank you for showing how well it works! I made my first swimsuit a couple years ago and, despite the many challenges, will never go back to rtw...like you said, anything that's cute AND fits well is just so expensive!
Thank you! The Fabric Fairy had so many colors to choose from--I am so tempted to order more. Now that I have the technique down, I will probably make my own from now on. So much easier than I originally thought! Especially for bottoms--I tried on so many pair and all were DUDS.
Wow Casey! You tackled a holy grail of sewing and emerged triumphant! They look amazing on you - superb fit and finish. I’m so impressed. I’m still intimidated to try it myself but you make it seem as though it’s doable! Thank you so much for sharing the whole process, not just the ultimate success story. I’m so grateful to have found your channel. -Jen
Thank you, Jen! It definitely tested my patience, haha. But now that I've found my flow with it, I'm excited to sew more (I already have several cut out 🙃 I'm not obsessed or anything!) ;)
I went through the exact same frustrating experience last year trying to make two reversible swimsuits, but I finally just gave up and didn't finish a single one. Your finished suits look fabulous so I think I am inspired to use the same technique you ended up with and will have another go at it. I also have that elastic foot for my Baby Lock and haven't really used it much, so now is the time. Thanks for a very informative video.
I love your channel and how fearless you are with your sewing! You inspire me to do the same. I appreciate how down to earth your content is and how you demonstrate how “real life” sewing can be ! Your teaching skills are great and I always learn from each and every one of your videos. Your swimwear turned out amazing and you look fabulous in everything you created. I love the red one on you ! (I believe that Closet Core patterns has a tutorial on their website on how to make a reversible swimsuit.) Thank you for putting out such amazing content and I hope you continue to do so for a long time! ❤️
My Gosh Casey, I am just in awe of this whole video. LOVED IT !!! I seriously don't think you could have purchased a swim suit that looked any better on you. I love them all, but especially the green one with the ruffles. I tried a swim suit once but could only get the bottoms half way decent and just gave up when I couldn't get the top to fit right...and that was many moons ago.. Your swim suits are absolutely eye popping awesome. .I almost have no words, and you know I'm never at a loss for words lol.
Wow what an excellent job you did! Thanks for sharing this with us! I was at Joann’s fabric holding beautiful swim fabric and didn’t know where to begin and now I do thanks to you!❤😊🎉
I love the shoulder ruffles. Some designs that I've seen have a little too much ruffle but I think this is just enough to be fun and not so much that it's juvenile. I'm sorry that is was a frustrating experience for you but I think we all learned a little something from it lol.
Love the ruffles! And the fact that these don't have closures on the top makes it really clean, even if the seam free look didn't quite get where you wanted to go. I say it's a big win!
Great work! The red look stoning on you, but the green with the flounce is adorable. I learn how to sew swimwear and lingerie in Colombia, I was surprised how easy was, I thought you need a specialty machines and hard to find notions. I agree with you, the fitting has to be so specific to our bodies in this particular garment, that find a perfect fit is difficult and the prices they ask for…. Great video
You did a great job and the swim suits look amazing on you!! The only way to improve is by mistakes and sometimes mistakes can be genius 😉. I am on my 3rd mock up of trying to draft and sew a full swimsuit sloper. I am hoping to design bikinis from this 🤞. Thanks for sharing your journey in making swimwear, it was very inspiring!!
Oh heck, I’ve promised my daughter and granddaughter I’d sew them both a bikini 🫣 thankfully I’ve got loads of Lycra to practise with. Props to you for perseverance but it really paid off because they look amazing! Quick note re: elastic, there’s a specific type for swimwear that’s really thin which makes it much easier to sew without bulk at seam lines, it’s clear and made to stand up to chlorine without breaking down. I can’t believe the price of those needles, yikes, we can get them for only a couple of pounds here in the U.K.!
Love how these turned out! You look great in them --especially the cute ruffle top. I like your styling with your linen pants and the bucket hat. They were a learning experience for sure but you nailed it!
Those look fabulous. I have a bathing suit cut out but haven't sewn it yet. I have an elastic foot for my serger. I guess I have some practicing to do!
They all turned out so good! I have a favorite suit that has just about “had it” I keep looking at it, thinking it would be pretty easy to duplicate. You have inspired me to give it a try. Thanks!
This came out fabulous! I love the red one. I am an 80's girl, so I love hi-cut swim suits (and undies for that matter LOL). I will admit, in the 80s some of them were too high, but I think it is such a flattering look. You look great! 🧡
@@PatternScout it makes EVERYONE'S legs look shorter! Not flattering unless you are 7 feet tall. LOL I am not a thong person, but I never understood a straight cut (non-hi-cut) thong. It cuts a woman across her hips in a way I think makes her look stumpy. Just my opinion of course. :)
I think it is just a standard presser foot, although it is a replacement of the one that came with my machine (the old one was plastic and broke when my needle hit it once). I don't even remember where I got this one (maybe amazon?) but like it because it is all metal and has a really wide opening where the needle passes through.
You are not alone! I just experienced the same thing trying to make my own two piece swimsuit. I also used a zigzag stitch. I just finished attempt #2 and will go on to #3 when I have the will.... Still less than $200 tho! Hahaha
I feel the same way about reversible swimsuits!!! Every time I try to make one the fabric gets twisted, and I end up tossing them. I assemble all my swimsuits exactly how you ended up constructing yours and it’s soooooo easy and looks great! I use a coverstitch to finish the edges with a stretch schmetz needle to prevent skipped stitches.
So handy for knits! I didn’t think I needed it, but I live in t-shirts most of the time, so it’s a life saver. I have the Brother 2340CV and it’s worth every penny!
Very inspirational. Thank you. Think I might give it a go! I have the same serger as you but don’t have that foot. I’ll have to investigate . They look lovely by the way and I love the ruffle on the shoulder.
Great job. I have an elastic foot for my serger, but I have been afraid to use it. Maybe I will brave up. I have made lots of suits with lots of wonky elastic.
The elastic foot is so easy to use and makes sewing with elastic so much less stressful! The hardest part is just getting the elastic under the needle to start (but it's still so easy). Once you get going it just does the work for you! SO nice!
We all know the first one you make of something is always crap, lol. They all turned out great in the end and you learned something new with the elastic foot! I’m scared of mine, so I may need to give that a go soon.
Wow these are awesome! I just bought my very first serger and I love it. I made a T-shirt today and I’m so hooked. I’m going to make a swimsuit next. Thanks for the inspiration.
First you look amazing in your suits. Second thanks for showing real life sewing not just only the perfect parts. I think a lot of people give up when they see fake videos of only the perfect version instead of real life .

Yes, the elastic can be so tricky! That's always been my beef with swimwear sewing. The special presser foot makes such a difference.
You are one brave woman! Your perseverance really paid off. I absolutely love the green one (your fave) and l enjoyed seeing you have fun with styling. Having the right tool for the job (elastic foot) always helps. Kudos to you, Casey. 😎
Thank you so much! This video took me so long to make because I kept getting discouraged, but also determined to make it work! Haha.
I love the way you just push through all these problems. You really inspired me to get back at the sewing machine
I'm so glad it is motivating! Thank you!
So cute!! I loved seeing the whole process not the over edited don’t let people see mistakes version. Yay!!!
Bravo - I made my first swimwear 35 years ago, no clue what I was doing but there was no stopping me. Pre fast fashion days, and internet😱 I was poor but determined. Well done 💕

I failed a lot and learned a lot on this one for sure! :) So glad you enjoyed seeing the process!

Wowza, you nailed it! All that suffering paid off. All hail Queen of Swimsuits.
Thank you!! 🥰
Too True!!! LOL!
The green one is so cute!! 😍 Amazing job!
Thank you! 😊
I love the way you just keep going Casey!!! Green swimsuit is gorgeous.X
Your hard work paid off!! THIS TURNED OUT AMAZING!!!! Love love love!❤
I realize this video is from 11 months ago…I LOVE the green swimsuit so much! I would really like to add the cute ruffles to my swim tops! Maybe someday when you are finished working on your home renovation you could do a tutorial?
Great job Casey, give yourself some grace sweets! Those prices for needles hurt my heart! Order from Wawak when you can!!!!
This is why I love your channel Casey. You go on a journey with your sewing sometimes, not always certain how things will work, but you always find a way to figure things out. Wow, you did a great job and inspired me to make myself a swimsuit also, made some for my daughter earlier, but I think I can make this for myself also. And good for you for sharing your 'fails', that's really encouraging me to start and just do it!
Thank you for the honnestly. Now i fell no guild for the 3 attemps in the garbage bins. Ready for the 4 times.

thanks for all the great tips and inspo. Those suits look great on you. Such a nice fit and I love the ruffles!
I admire your tenacity. I would have thrown in the towel after try 2 I think. Very well done 👩🌾👩🌾👩🌾
Love how they turned out. The green looked amazing on you!

I absolutely love this video and that you included each attempt. Sewing can be so frustrating, especially when it feels like everyone else gets it right the first time. I love your finished swimsuits! You did a great job.
Awesome!!! Pop in Casey is so knowledgeable 😁!

You make everything you wear look great. Love watching your thought process.
Great work! And so encouraging, since I’ve been wanting to make a swimsuit, but it’s scary.

Your mom is SO RIGHT haha. I get so obsessed...I just HAVE to figure it out, even when it ticks me off at times!
this is a great tutorial! Especially since you struggled a bit and worked through it. The end pieces are gorgeous. love the red swimsuit top. It looks amazing on you.

Cut the elastic off about half n inch before the end of a seam. Removes the bulk x
Yes...the green suit looks best !
Now totally inspired....and off to order an elastic foot for my serger! Who knew such a thing existed!!
Yes!! That elastic foot is a total game changer. Makes me actually want to sew more swimsuits 💪
I went through the exact same frustrating experience last year trying to make two reversible swimsuits, but I finally just gave up and didn't finish a single one. I love your channel. Your great love your tenacity and vulnerability. Extremely refreshing! Thank you so much! I'm a newbie
Wow, love these ❤ this is the kind of thing I’ve always wanted to try but did not even know where to start
Amazing as always!! I LOVE the green one with the ruffles.

The green one is really cute
love the ruffed one
Wow. Great job. Love the ruffle

Haha thank you so much, Cathleen! Very happy with the results, that green one makes me so happy :)
Wow what an excellent job you did! Thanks for sharing this with us! I was at Joann’s fabric holding beautiful swim fabric and didn’t know where to begin and now I do thanks to you!❤😊🎉

Thanks!! Yes! I definitely prefer no closures digging in when I'm laying out! So much more comfy without them
Your work matches your personality ==> 😍❤
Great video
Wow! Great job! Way to persevere. Love the green one with the ruffles.
I love your realness! They turned out perfect for you! Love the little ruffle!!
Thank you! :)
I've been watching to make a swim suit for aaaaaages, but not felt like I was up to it. Thanks for the video, it's really helpful x
Stunning! I love the top with the frills, fabulous!
They came out so beautifully! Welldone ❤
Omgosh the green is adorable!

What a fun journey. They look amazing. Well done 🎉
Brilliant job, you have suffered so we don't have to! Thank you!
Your swim suits turned out super!!
Love them! They look great on you! That green color is beautiful!
Love how these turned out! You look great in them --especially the cute ruffle top. I like your styling with your linen pants and the bucket hat. They were a learning experience for sure but you nailed it!
Thank you so much!
Beautiful work!, The red one is my fav!. Both are beautiful!
OMGGGGG!! You look stunning! Beautiful pieces bdw. Love from Brazil
Thank you so much!!
Wow !! I am impressed !!!😎🐕🦺🐈⬛
Love also the green one!
It looks amazing. One day I'll have enough courage to make my own.
Thanks for showing the whole process!
Bravo!! Thx for showing the process!
You’re a whiz! These turned out great. I enjoy watching your determination to figure something out.
Those look fabulous. I have a bathing suit cut out but haven't sewn it yet. I have an elastic foot for my serger. I guess I have some practicing to do!
Yes!! That elastic foot does all the hard work!
I love the frill sleeves! At any point in this video do you show how you do that?
So flattering! I really love the shape of the tops that you created
Great video! You are an inspiration to us all. All your suits look wonderful. Thanks for sharing your sewing journey.
Thank you so much!
They all turned out so good! I have a favorite suit that has just about “had it” I keep looking at it, thinking it would be pretty easy to duplicate. You have inspired me to give it a try. Thanks!
So easy to copy one! I will definitely be doing it again!
Excellent content and results!
Thank you!
This came out fabulous! I love the red one. I am an 80's girl, so I love hi-cut swim suits (and undies for that matter LOL). I will admit, in the 80s some of them were too high, but I think it is such a flattering look. You look great! 🧡
The high cut is so flattering, right!? So many high rise swimsuits have such a low cut and it makes my legs look shorter!
These are fabulous! Can I ask about the shorts at the end? What pattern that might be?
What kind of sewing machine foot was shown when you topstitched the ruffle seam down?
I think it is just a standard presser foot, although it is a replacement of the one that came with my machine (the old one was plastic and broke when my needle hit it once). I don't even remember where I got this one (maybe amazon?) but like it because it is all metal and has a really wide opening where the needle passes through.
Oh you are so talented. Love your work. Thanks for filming your frustration and triumph.
Thank you!
just beautiful, thank you. I learned a lot.
😊 thank you! Great tips! One question- that white big cutting mat you have! Where can I find one?
You are so clever.
I really want to get a coverstitch machine...I feel like it would be so handy for a project like this too!
Thank you for sharing your journey with us! Also your great tips. 🙂
Danke
Wow these are awesome! I just bought my very first serger and I love it. I made a T-shirt today and I’m so hooked. I’m going to make a swimsuit next. Thanks for the inspiration.
Yay! Awesome. I love my serger and use it constantly! Such a great addition to the sewing room ;)
