This video is very confusing because it actually says the MTA isn't dropping OMNY, but dropping the contractor responsible for implementation and instead relying on the team that developed the Traintime app to continue OMNY rollout. Or did I misinterpret that? Needs to be made more clear
That's exactly what they said. Most people on here are so blinded by their hatred of the MTA that they completely miss what was said. However why it took the agency all these these years to realize that there are better companies out there who want the business , well that is completely on past MTA management .
They are only dropping Cubic from designing OMNY for the railroads. They aren't dropping Cubic from the bus and subways since they own that tech and have to repair it as needed.
Exactly
WTF does dropping it mean? That they're cancelling it? No....so wtf does it mean?
CLICK BAIT TITLE
Exactly. I was confused too and had to rewind to confirm they are only dropping the contractor.
FOX has 3rd grade presentation skills. They need to learn how to present a story clearly. It’s not that hard.
When I was stationed in Japan 20 years ago, they were using contactless payment system Suica in their train stations for years. They were using the Suica cards and their flip phones. They could even use it in convenience stores for purchases. I thought "Wow! why don't they do this in NY?" 20 years later the MTA still can't figure out the "wave of the future."
i do wish you could top up suica cards with card!
The banking system, insurance companies began here on slavery and using humans as bank loan instruments and for insurance policies. They were literally using farms to breed humans as profit. Those banks and insurance companies thrive today and most of the foundation of their wealth is built upon great disaprities in economic wealth. They still do not want everyone to be on the same economic level and they socially engineer it. Banking was so illegal for Blacks in America that banking geniuses were literally jailed for finding ways to work around extremely unjust economic oppression designed to crush. Japan is a homogenous society with hidden lower class that share similar physical features/phenotypes with a few darker people with kinky hair that keep your Shinto traditions that you don't really show. America is not a racially homogenous land and a huge amount of perceived success is achieved by divide and conquer along racial and economic lines. If all are able to equally access money to fund accounts to do what's in Japan, it would mean too much power would be lost as far as the hidden power structure is concerned.
This need to put the subway system on a digital only format is economically crushing to many and thr city will regret it. I remember one New Year's Eve in the 90's when this here MTA raised the fare with NO ANNOUNCEMENT, NO HEARING, NOTHING, NADA.
They need to keep the metrocard and also allow cash payment with coins still. They just want to discard massive amounts of people out of the city but they need to study the history of this city that has never been all one color since 1626 when African slaves built Wall Street, just so you know. The Lenni Lenape WOMEN ran the tribes and the exploitation of African Women's wombs for profit for banks that "chase" dollars in the "citi" for that "nylife" and "metropolitan life" need to add two more statues to that Wall Street because Karma Cafe is open and serving up destinynif they all don't act right.
NYer's paid a subsidy on for decades every single month on the electric bill, gas and phone bills to support the MTA. Do the math and ask where that money went.
Japan doesn't mind it's people doing well. America's power elites love inequity so much they send the jobs overseas, let the place crumble and went to war on its own citizens to economically oppress by forcefully destroying over 60 successful Black townships, two of them in Central Park with one under the Reservoir. For all to be able to exist economically like Japan would require seeing all as worthy of it and this nation is determined to keep that economic oppression going. This is why Japan and America cannot operate banking wise in the same way.
@@098saw you can if you use a mobile suica
Should've thought about that before they rolled out OMNY. What a waste.
not a waste, the terminals are still there. they just need axon to use the hardware and make new software to replace CUBIC software
They didn’t drop OMNY the title is misleading
@@assonance9057 they’re dropping the contractor, the MTA still owns the terminals and the name, they’re just having a new company develop software for said terminals
The MTA's specialty is wasting money, yet it always cries poverty.
They are run by dummies.
People want the monthly. Why is it so difficult to implement this?
Because Cubic is really bad at everything
It’s already done. After 12 rides it’s free. Comes out to the same price as monthly. People like you just love to complain.
@jamesrichardson900 oh STFU with saying people like me want to complain. What the hell does that even mean? Read the room. The majority do not like it. The numbers do not lie. The OMNY card and the way its touch and go still has potential but they need to listen to the public. WTF is it taking so long to implement? I can speak my mind as a customer of MTA for the last decade plus. I shouldn't have to rely on a punch card system. If you do this many rides it's free shenanigans. An award system like buying deli subs isn't the way to go. Simply say it's a weekly or monthly fee. The rollout is not clear enough. Also, I have had my card charged from the omny while on the bus just being near it when I already paid. The system is flawed and too confusing for many people. They are only trying to juice out more money from people who pay fairly.
@@thebigbadwolfI so agree with every single statement and then specifically about the being near the machine and it automatically taking your money far from a distance the exact same thing happened to me too after paying with metro card just coz my phone was almost close to the machine it just charged my card that’s why I stay so careful near these machines I even put my phone inside my pocket avoid that like they just developed it to satisfy their money hungry selves
@tunosri671 Tap tech is over 20 years old, the MTA didn't develop it.
More waste of money
Did they just tell the public “ the money is gone”?
Omny is a waste of time lol get a MetroCards lol 😂
Exactly
Damn right! Screw Janno Lieber!
Since when did the MTI actually start caring about people?
Why pay? Just walk through the gate like everyone else. Lol
I learned that it’s easier to worry about yourself than others. I pay my fare every time and if I see someone in need I’ll pay for their fare as well. It’s called being a good human being. You should try it.
@@jamesrichardson900 It's called being poor...
Why even have pay at the point of service. If any city should have free transit paid by taxes it would be NYC. It's not like city could function without the subway
@@Distress. Because then it becomes a service for the "poor" instead of a needed service. You do not want that. Also, any money from fares should be going to improve service, not providing free fare.
@@jamesrichardson900 stop being a MTA bootlicker James
7-day unlimited don't use OMNY as much? what is the newscast talking about? I thought OMNY's farecap moved to any rolling 7-day period?
It starts the first tap you make and counts 7 days from that. 12 taps and then the rest are free rides.
Ripoff
@goodbassfishin How is fare capping a rip-off? You don't pay more then a weekly in a 7 day period...
@@Shinycelebi than*
Fare should be free.
It used to be a fixed seven day period. If you started midweek it was cheaper to get an unlimited MetroCard.
Year after year the MTA continues to waste billion$ on shiny technology while ignoring primary operational repairs of the subway system. It is like putting lipstick on a pig or something like that. OMNY is yet another massive waste of money by the MTA.
No discounts with OMNY is sad. Good terminology lol lipstick on a pig
But millionaires and billionaires made a lot of money. Isn't that great?
The Ponzi scheme/Scam has unlimited money called taxes! They do as they please and steal what THEY want! I have a cash business so they aren’t “Stealing” my $$$$
And congestion pricing for MTA to take in more money.
Billions for 1 billion in spent overtime and whatever is left to pay for useless projects
@MrVariant You get the same discounts you did with Metrocard. Some of the stuff isn't rolled out yet but it's coming.
went to DC, took their subway and their payment system is way much better.
Then stay in DC
@@jamesrichardson900 didn't mean to hurt your OMNY but it sucks
People will still complain. In DC the fare is based on distance. If someone takes the train from Fordham Road in the Bronx to Grand Central it will cost more than taking the train 5 stops.
Exactly. MTA should look at other systems and implement a system that works for other cities.
@@ontheroad5555 I meant their payment technology system, you can add their card to the wallet app of your phone and you can even reload more funds from the wallet app itself if you have a debit or credit card on the wallet app.
I love the metro card leave it
But what will replace train time when they start to suck
Happy time 😊
When a metro card is more convenient than omny why would anyone upgrade
Interestingly, MTA never mentions and avoid talking about security of their personal and financial information when using a new payment system. Many people who have had difficulty reaching customer service representatives or experienced delays in resolving issues which can be frustrating for users. While MTA is trying to promote promotional tickets which is very cheap attempt to look like caring customers, many users end up not getting quality service.
Still waiting for many months on a replacement for my senior metrocard -
It won't work keep the MetroCards!!!!!! 😮😮😮😮😮
I agree
OMNY works, people just gotta get used to tap tech, but this tech is over 20 years old and used everywhere in the world.
first the useless door and now they rolling out this, man, whoever is in charge of the decision making in the MTA must really high
Mexico City’s subway just dropped paper tickets, after a 4 year rollout. No private contracts involved.
I am confusion
What a great milestones, I already have Train time now I can use it for the MTA Perfect
Why the hell would we get rid of the cards we can keep both we have homeless people with cheap phones or no phone this is not good for everybody in the city what of are elderly who cannot comprehend
The onmy system has its own metrocard equivalent, you tap it rather than swipe, what are you talking about?
The MTA selected Cubic as the vendor, now the MTA is, as usual, passing the blame elsewhere. It's the MTA's fault for not properly vetting the vendor. But since MTA management is mismanaged, incompetent and worthless any company presented to them will appear to be a gem.
Cubic has a monopoly on transit payments. They are the only game in town.
Metrocards were owned by Cubic, that's why they continued with the same vendor.
No more staying off the grid, when riding the system. Will the Assistant Conductors on LIRR/Metro North charge a higher OMNY price when on board vs using the Station Reader??
As someone here already commented, money is spent by the MTA on BS we don't exactly need, and this OMNY BS is one of them. On a more technical note, buying a crapload of new trains on the IRT numbered lines when the 6 train alone proves that the older "R62" cars that are currently operating still had plenty of life in them is another example. That is money in the hundreds of millions. The MTA knows that these trains can go 40+ years. The best money spent by the MTA in the past 2 1/2 decades are the signs that telll you how many minutes before the train arrives. All that other BS with screen maps, screen ads, etc is all people playing with money they didn't earn or care for.
I've used OMNY for periodic subway rides without any issue for years.
I’m a student and I use omny card 😂 these kids don’t wanna pay anything at all
ok.. do you want a cookie for that?? a star sticker??
@@warsh1p234😂😂😂😂💀
Executives got their kickbacks. It never even made sense to contract this out and not just do it themselves. Now they will change to another outsourced team, overpay and get kickbacks again. People also dont like being tracked with this new system.
I will never use a system that allows the MTA to automatically debit my credit or debit card.
Cubic was a company that handled automatic toll collection on the mta bridges and tunnels, it was formerly known as automatic toll systems and patented the machine that counts the coins and allows passage once the toll was paid. Too many coins for the machine to handle at once, got as high as 2.50 in coins.
So does this mean we can add/link our omny card to the train time app for metronorth / LIRR ?
Those apps are so incredibly bad I wouldn’t expect anything.
When you have a pin number as numbers only, the developers can’t even be bothered to change the keyboard type from letters .
When you initialise a text entry field, you literally can specify the type of keyboard you want. It’s not even a full line code. That’s how lazy they are.
MBTA in Boston has the same contractor. Oh boy.
They really love wasting Money
They’ll get rid of it and move fares to $3 and say it’s a “convienence fee”
I use this OMNY everyday! Why are they doing this. I never have any issues.
I wont be riding the MTA then. I dont want another fucking App on my phone. No.
The senior fare Omni cards are supposed to come out next year . Now what?
Cubic also messed up the update for the Clipper card in the bay area, I hope all the jurisdictions working with them have termination for convenience clauses in their contracts.
It has terrible adoption because, until recently, ONMY cards were only available in a handful of subway stations. I had to make a trip to Brooklyn just to get one on my commuter benefits, and yes, you can do it using a benefits card, but that's not valid at retail locations. The other issue is no compatibility with PATH.
when it is about week or day fare... just do it like in London, have daily / weekly / monthly gap, never pay more then the pass.... so u always use the same card
The MTA is so very Incompetent. How many years did this take. We should have Zero Tolerance for the MTA’’s Incompetence. How Pathetic. Pure Media Scum.
Drive and pay tolls, fares, and congestion pricing. Or take Uber and taxi. Maybe Walk. MTA is like any government institutions, can it be fixed?
@@manlouie8783 Defund Career Politician’s and Government Agencies. Thank you for your reply 🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸.
So what was the point of even presenting Omny if they didn’t take into consideration people who have discount fare?
The shade 😂 “…Accolades the MTA usually doesn’t get…”
GEE I WONDER WHY
Wow!!
The Septa is better
Fantastic news 📰 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ 1:24
What a colossal failure by the MTA. And here they are 5 years after roll out.
More money down to the toilet
I was just about to sign up for OMNY this year, in February, to be exact. I'm glad I held off.
you dont sign up for OMNY. You purchase an OMNY card or use a contactless credit/debit card or a virtual credit/debit card on your smartphone or wearable device.
This system steals money! You do not get your transfers! Good riddance
Don’t mess with my weekly and monthly unlimited ❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️
The MTA should’ve known this wouldn’t work
implent monthly, weely, and half fair onto them and many more people will sign up; otherwise its a absolute waste of money since having a card does the same damn thing. plus not everyone is tech savy or uses phones to play games/apps
If “Tell me you’re dunning away with OMNY but still not dunning away with OMNY” was a video…..
TrainTime > OMNY - Best clap back 2024.
NO ONE WANTED OMNY
NO ONE ASKED FOR OMNY
WE WERE ALL FINE WITH METROCARDS!!
lol hold on!! So OMNY is gone already???
future? this type of system have already been use all over east asia for more than 20 years. and they can do elderly, student, disability program with no problem.
Good. OMNY is good but the MTA can't afford to waste a cent. Remember it would cost "$7 billion" to add doors to platforms...
End the program
RIGHT HERE THEY NEED TO PUT N.Y.P.D. POLICE TRANSIT 🚇🚇 DISTRICT COPS 👮♀️ 👮♂️ 🚔 DOWNSTAIRS INSIDE NEAR THE SUBWAY TRAIN 🚇🚇 STATION PLATFORMS NOT AT THE TURNSTYLES WHERE YOU SCAN & $$$ PAY 2.90 CENTS / SOON TO BE 3.00 DOLLARS IN CASH 💸💸💸💰 WITH YOUR OMNY SCANNER CARD PASS.
Omny and the contactless system used by PATH are both built by Cubic on the same tech, yet are incompatible with each other. Ridiculous
There is no PATH card made for use of the Cubic tech on PATH. SmartLink Cards which is a different tap tech and only available on PATH is being fazed out. A contactless debit/credit card works on all transit systems which accept them. I have used my contactless credit card on NJT Bus, NJT light rail, PATH, Subway, SEPTA, and the Tampa area bus system without any issues, without signing up for anything.
People still take public transportation? Poor bastards 😂
Did anyone listen to the video? The mta is actually doing something smart and choosing another contractor that’s more competent
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Metro card was great and always worked for everyone
What a stupid change, they should have kept the metro cards
