What a charming Vera Lynn, very appealing band and popular Charlie Kunz which bring back nostalgic memories, even at my young age after 1938 when I was born in Italy in WW2!.....Mrs. Rosa Larsen...then Guida
GREAT selection of tunes !!! How nice to hear Vera Lynn sing again ! I first learned of Charlie Kunz and his music via You Tube and have since become a big fan of his. Thanks !
From a wonderful Jessie Matthews film. Never tire of hearing the elegant sounds from Charlie Kunz and the Casani Club Orchestra. . It was Dame Vera's birthday on 20th March, is this a coincidence? A first class selection and upload.
What a time this was when there were clubs in London and elsewhere you could go and listen to this sound and dance to it. Tastes changed by the end of the war and it was gone.
Never having delved into Vera Lynn's career, I hadn't thought about what sort of material she was doing before WWII, when it seems she secured her place in history with "We'll Meet Again" and other touching, morale-boosting tunes. "I Nearly Let Love Go Slipping Through My Fingers" is a lovely song, which I know through Bunny Berigan's version. 1936: what a glorious year for dance band music!
She started to sing and dance in men clubs she opened her own dance club age 15, so she was already active from a really early age, just so you know she never had singing lessons. A natural beauty from the inside and out.
@@philipchretienkarlsson8157 exactly, her very first recording is also on youtube, it is from 1935, Its's Home - Vera Lynn. Dame Vera Lynn is my favourite singer.

Wonderful selection of tunes from the equally wonderful Casani Club Orchestra! And a treat to hear Dame Vera early in her career, as well!
What a life. RIP vera lynn.
Great orchestra, peerless singer, terrific record and a real treat for me personally.
Glad you enjoyed it so much.

It's my favourite Jessie Matthews film. I have been meaning to upload this for a while, but Dame Vera's recent birthday acted as a prompt.

It is not widely known these days that Vera was an established dance band singer before the war and recognised enough to be a solo recording artist.
@@Panachord "we were all normal people before the war"
Was she even all of 17 when she made this recording? And yet, Dame Vera already has this lovely phrasing and voice. The transfer is perfect!

Whatever her circumstances, I've always loved her !❤

Vera was only a teen when she recorded this, I believe. It was her first recording. Nobody knew her and she was just billed as Vocal Refrain then.
2nd Recording. There was a "private" press done in South West London in 1935/36 its on YT
@@highpath4776 wasn't general fast asleep one of her first possibly second one, arranged in 1935.

Prefer this version to the Henry Hall... by a large margin!
