    I just did this on the side of the freeway in rush hour... My battery was drained and needed a jump. One guy on a motorcycle stopped to help, but couldn't give me a jump. I then stood out there with jumper cables in my hand and a really cool couple from Oregon passing though gave me a jump.
    I watched part of this video to make sure I put things back right. Thank you DIYGUY!
    Thank you Kate and Youseph for your help, may you both always be blessed!

    Thanks for the video. My brake and battery light came on and not sure why but the A/C stopped working on a 96 degree day. When I accelerated the lights went off so I wasn't sure what it was because the engine had just been gone through for new head gaskets and they replaced all the belts. After watching your video, I picked up an alternator and that fixed it. I've replaced a number of alternators on a variety of vehicles over the years and this was by far the easiest one I''ve ever done. Thanks to this video it only took 20 minutes from start to finish. Probably would have dropped $500 at a shop to have it done.

    Great video, just a side note for anyone doing this work on the same model year as this video, at 3:17 when removing the green colored connector, try not to use needlenose pliers unless you're super SUPER cautious. Better to use your fingers and a flathead screwdriver to slowly and carefully remove it, also, don't pull on the wires when doing so. This harness can be kinda expensive if you mess it up. Just a heads up.

    Thank you so much! This video is clear, easy to follow and right to the point. No over explaining, it’s just perfect! I had never replaced an alternator until today and I used this video to help me do it. Until my alternator went bad I honestly didn’t even know where it was, I’m slowly becoming a mechanic as me and my rides get up there in miles and helpful videos like this one are a huge helper.

    Okay, this has to the best, most concise video out there for replacing the alternator (and belt) in a Subaru... in my case an '02 WRX. It took me a little over an hour for the entire job. It would have taken just 45 minutes if I hadn’t dropped the nut and lock washer from the top post of the alternator down onto the top of the engine. I pulled the new alternator back out, recovered the dropped parts, and put it back in. I re-connected the rest of the wiring and started her up. My bug eye is once again running like a champ, and I couldn’t be happier! Thank you very much for this excellent video. :) Now..... to the car wash!

      Glad you found our video helpful and well made. Next time if you have a magnet handy you might be able to get the nut and washer out rather then having to pull the alternator back out. Glad to hear shes back up and running. You're welcome. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave us a comment.

    I had a check engine light on for two years that no one could figure out. My alternator went out and they wanted $218 plus a $50 core from O'reily. So, I went to a recycler and got one for $35.
    With the help of this video I installed it in 30 minutes and everything has cleared up.

    What's really cool is that you did a very thorough video without cuts in about 10 minutes, but to get this job done on a Ford Escape costs almost a thousand dollars and multiple hours because your have to basically go in through the tailpipe.

    Thanks for the super helpful video. The reporting of the proper sockets to use, the tip to catch the nut on the back of the pivot bolt, and other suggestions were most helpful. Got the job done in under an hour, but that included topping up the battery, and checking all of the other fluid levels and putting all of the tools away.

    Thank you so much for this video. I have a 1999 Subaru Forester L, so I don't want to put alot of money in it and this video allowed me to do just that. The only problems I ran into were: (1) When I pulled out the very long bolt on the right side of the alternator, I did not have the clearance that you have. The bolt was hitting up against the plastic piece that holds the radiator (at the very front of the hood). I ended up pulling the radiator hose out of the plastic clamp that it sits in, which helped me to have just enough room to remove the bolt; (2) I had a hard time getting the alternator to pull up after all bolts were removed. I put a little WD-40 on the slot where the alternator pulls up on (left side) and was then able to force it out. Great Video!!

    Mine lasted 12.5 years until the alternator, or rectifier started giving issues and dropped to 11.3V or so output instead of 14.3V or so, which it should be at to charge the battery. My mistake was getting it wet and that may have killed one of the diodes I think. Water and alternators do not mix. I'll re-con the old unit when I get it out as it seems to be in good shape otherwise, and never messed with.

      Venturi life , any info on how to rebuild these alternators I understand it's usually just a diode but looking for info on how to do this , any input would help thanks 👍🏼

    How do you tell the proper tension on the belt?

    • @TheDIYGuyDOTnet
      @TheDIYGuyDOTnet  2 роки тому

      If you click the link in the description. It will take you to our website and at the very bottom there is a picture and a quick write up telling how to get the correct amount of tension. You will need to find the longest part of the belt run between pulleys then find the center. Then twist the belt and see if you can bend it more then 90 degrees if so it needs to be tighter. Hope that helps sorry for the delayed response. Thanks for watching.

    You guys make it so much easier thanks but I need to know how old my alt is I have a number 13829A and it is carquest????

    • @TheDIYGuyDOTnet
      @TheDIYGuyDOTnet  4 роки тому

      You're welcome, Glad we could help. Ya that would be a car quest reman part number. You need to know how old for a warranty? I think its only for original buyer and if that is you they can normally look it up under your name and or phone number at the store. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave us a comment. Don't forget to give the video a thumbs up/ like if you haven't already. Thanks

    Great video, changed my alternator in less than 15 minutes. One problem I have though is that now my belt is squeaking hard, I checked it before putting it back on and it was in great condition. What can be causing this problem?

    • @TheDIYGuyDOTnet
      @TheDIYGuyDOTnet  6 років тому +1

      Thanks. Not having the belt tight enough will cause it to squeak. Tight it up a bit more and that should take care of it. If you click the link in the description it will take you to our website and at the bottom it will explain the proper amount of tension. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave us a comment. Don't forget to give the video a thumbs up. Thanks

    You’re supposed to disconnect the negative terminal tho? That disconnects the ground and discharges the electrical system entirely with the positive terminal disconnected the ground is still grounded and carries the electrical current from the battery thru the car to the grounds for all the wiring in the car.

    Hey why didn't you unhook the negative terminal for the battery aswell?

    • @TheDIYGuyDOTnet
      @TheDIYGuyDOTnet  6 років тому

      I don't see the need to. You could disconnect both. Some people depending on the car/ alternator just remove the neg. wire. and leave the positive connected but Subaru's uses the eyelet on the alternator so you don't want that to touch anything and cause a short.

      Bridget Nyberg this happened to my '05 wrx. one of the wires on the voltage regulator connector broke. I went to a pull your own part junk yard and cut the pigtail off of an older Forester. spliced and soldered the new pigtail to existing wire. just like new now.

      Sounds like a resourceful solution to me. My plug turned out to be ok but a had to try a couple times before I got the belt tension right. Mostly I was really happy to save some money by making the replacement myself. Who says girls can't fix cars?
