- Cody walks through his latest arrow build. Is it the worst ever? Maybe. But a balance of arrow weight and F.O.C. is what actually makes this hunting arrow the best.

I think people put too much emphasis on FOC and total arrow weight. Like your 505 grain blowing thru a deer. It will probably do that every time. I very seldom do not have a pass thru on deer or antelope. Most of my kills are 25 yards or less for all the right reasons. I use B. E. Carnivore with only 150 grains up front including the Magnus Black Hornet serrated. Draw is 28” @ 60#’s. 13.8% foc for the record. My older Ritual 33 isn’t a fast one anyway but it hasn’t failed me yet. I have never used any mechanical head in over 55 years of bow hunting just two blade fixed double bevel. Some heads have had bleeders, some not. Good video you have here. 👍👍
Thanks for the insight! I use Magnus heads as well and really like them.
I shoot the exact same setup! Other than I use 125 grain Sevrs. I find they are just as you said, fast enough for target practice and heavy enough to ethically put down a deer, even if it’s a shoulder hit.
Nice! Thanks for the feedback. I’ve contemplated going to a 125 gr head several times but haven’t just because I didn’t want to adjust my sight and sight tape at the time. Have you liked the Sevrs?
I think you are spot on! The whole Ranch Fairy and Dudley thing is out of control! People take what Ranch Fairy does out of context and to the extreme. Remember this his arrows were born from shooting hogs at a fixed distance (ie a feeder of some sort) he is/was trying to punch through heavy bone. Dudley is looking at maximizing range and flight of an arrow. What drives me bat sh!t crazy is when these guys show up to TAC with 700+ grain arrows and can't understand why they can't get more than 80-100 yds out of their sight tapes. Jeez I wonder???? Like wise people take a very light arrow they built to shoot FOAM and wonder why they have issues on live game! 450-550 grains will kill most anything in North America and carry plenty of distance! If, if you are a smart ethical shooter. Why hug a shoulder looking to punch the heart out when most game animals have a pie plate sized area in the lungs. You double lung anything it is not going very far....PERIOD! Hug that shoulder and you run the risk of hitting the scapula, leg bone, etc. I think there is a happy medium but they have done nothing to accomplish that. If you're not shooting 600+ grains you're "not shooting adult arrows", if you don't have perfect form and never been coached "you don't know how to shoot." Both are BS shoot what you've proven kills and works for you from your own life experiences!
Well said! Certainly just seems like common sense.
How fast are your arrows out of your bow?
Great question. I shoot 70 lbs and a 28.5 in draw. My arrows are 505 grains and shoot 275 fps.
