Great band. Ray was the all time best musician in his genres. It was my honor to meet and speak with him in 1964. A great experience. God Bless you Ray.

    Thank you for posting this.
If America has a voice it is the voice of Ray Charles. He is the only vocal artist to achieve acclaim in Country, R&B, Gospel, Jazz, Blues, Rock and Roll, and Pop.
Finally a fitting tribute to the master of American music the late Mr. Ray Charles.

He was (in his presidency) at least 20 years ahead of his time. He is a World Citizen who has truly deserved a Nobel Prize. Respect.

A whole lot of talent on that stage...enjoyed it so much. I must say Usher was my biggedt surprise. Ray Charles has almost been ...well...a music God to me, and I wondered if Usher could sound authentic in this genre, but he absolutely did it. He must have spent quality time in church...like all the other feature performers here. I think the whole show absolutely paid a genuine tribute to Ray. This event was also a wonderful tribute to the Obamas as well. The minute they left the White House, this great idea left too. As a musician, I'll say it was a wonderful use of the nation's house. I hope the Bidens will bring the music back.

Yolanda Adams did the thing! Poor Usher had to follow Spirit in the Dark! I remember Aretha bringing Ray Charles on that performed a legendary event that I just was so surprised and fortunate to be in the generation that witnessed it!

Hi Al Mitch. Thanks for posting the Smithsonian video. You got a few names of people in the band wrong. Instead of Nicholas Payton it is Brandon Lee (me). Instead of Ulysses Owens it's Quincy Philips, and instead of Loren Shoenberg it's Daniel Pratt.
It would be great if you could change those out I know everyone in the band would like to receive proper credit.
    Thanks,
    Brandon Lee
