    I wish it had some camera controls built-in, so self-recorders could adjust ISO, white balance, and trigger auto-focus from in front of the camera. Thankfully I can do those things with Bluetooth+ or an ATEM, but it's odd that it's not built-in.

    • @pavementdotmedia

      There have been a lot of requests for this, especially with the need for a top monitor on the new PIXIs 6k camera. Hopefully this is something that could be added but I wouldn’t hold my breath

    • @AskJoe
      @AskJoe 5 місяців тому +2

      @@pavementdotmedia At least you can use Bluetooth+, but you'd think that since you can control so many features through a simple API, there would be no doubt that their own hardware would support it. Even their ATEMs can adjust all sorts of settings through buttons or through their software, and that's just through HDMI. 12G should be able to handle far more than that. Time will tell.

    At 2:44 you mention the monitor is also a format converter, but you fail to mention it does not downscale from 4k to 2k, which the Atomos Ninja and Shogun do. For live events this is a critical feature and Blackmagic really dropped the ball here in my opinion.

    The Only thing I really miss in this device is for it to better Integrate into a BMD live production workflow. I really like how I can use it as an HDMI/SDI cross converter but it would have been really great to have it read tally and color adjustment information from an ATEM switcher. And if they had put a TRRS jack instead of the TRS headphonejack so we could plug in a headset with a mic for talkback It would be a full fledged camera converter (although without fiber). The ATEM camera converter has't seen any upgrades lately anyway.

    • @pavementdotmedia

      Totally agree it would be a big bonus if it passed camera control data like the 3G converters do for pairing with the pocket cameras.

    Could you get away with pulling focus with the 5"?

    • @pavementdotmedia
      @pavementdotmedia  3 місяці тому

      I think it’s totally possible. Some AC’s may disagree (saying you need a 14” or bigger for critical focus) but for run and gun, I would say go for it. Only major drawback of the 5” is the micro BNC’s in my opinion

    I have a little "nichey" question. If I use HDMI into the 12G Videoassist to record BRAW externally, can I actually give out a 2160p signal over the SDI or HDMI out from the videoassist? I know that the 12Gs have good cross/downconvert capabilities as you mentioned so I am wondering if this works as well? Background is I would like to have a BRAW recording for editing later and simultaneously livestream in 4K/2160p (this is a planned new multicam setup and a way to include BRAW and skip individual Hyperdecks for ISO recording). Let me guys give you advice that will save you a $1000. Don't waste your money on Video Assist 7” . This is probably the only piece of equipment that I purchased and regret everytime I use it. Furst of all it is a one big lie, that it is 2500nits. I own 1500 nits 21.5" screen that is 10 times brighter than this small 2500nits screen. Also it has a super reflective screen that will prevent you from see anything. Its recording capabilities are garbage considering that it does not record anything from normal cinema cameras like Canon or Sony except one or two models. Also we todays standard it is very outdated. Another problem is its power consumption. I have connected it to 150wh Vmount battery and it manages to drain it in 1 hour. and it is super heavy. HDR? Another lie.. it is not. False color is really false lol :) it is not correct.Waveforms and histogram are OFF as well. Bottom line stay away and save your money. Unfortunately there is no alternative that I can recommend as a good monitor that can be attached on the camera. For that reason I am carrying 21.5" inch 1500nits field monitor on every shoot. At least I can properly expose and see what I shoot.
