Tulok had said he writes these videos pretty far in advance and there's no reason we would have bought the bundle just for one book. The updates to Aarakocra still work for this build, they're just not as OP at level one so DMs don't ban the race as often🙂
@@johnquiett1085 you should go ahead and do that yourself. He's already stated that he wouldn't be going back to redo past characters. Not only that but he already spends enough time bringing at least two of these per week.

@@johnquiett1085 tulok actually just uses characters who are fairly similar to show how old builds would be made in a different way or with a different available set of things to use. Superman/supergirl is a good example. Both kryptonians. Should have been about the exact same. But they weren't. Every jedi/sith build is a new way to approach making a jedi or sith. He also did one and mentioned how it would pretty much be how iron man could be built also. Every now and then he says things like that in the openers of his videos. This is an alternative way to build so and so. So while he doesn't redo builds. He DOES make references on occasion in future videos explaining how it's basically the same thing as redoing a character. Not saying that you go watch ALL his content or anything. Unless you really want to boost his stats with the UA-cam algorithm. Lol
there is a theory that all mutant powers are really limited reality warping - that's why one "X gene" manifests in so many different ways, and that's why everyone seems to get powers that match their themes and personalities.
Given how many x-men have been half-elf in the past, I was kind of disappointed that you didn't make him an avariel. I forgot if it is an official race, though.

The secret to nerfing Aarakocra is never let them go outside. I'm only partially kidding, I'm running Dungeon of the Mad Mage and our bird barely gets to fly.
The definition of broken is not that it cannot be overcome but the mean necesary require everthing else be built to counter to the point the OP ability is reduce to purely aesthethic or incredible powerful with no in-between In nature flying animal has the weakness against ambusher. This is undermine by the roll for initiative that render said strategy pretty moot. So the closest fix is just make them more likely to fail spot check and receive extra damage from sneak attack and range weapon. So if you must put your bird in box is more in there head. So they can still fly but doing so is calculated risk and not instant gain at early level.

XD He and Nightcrawler both are from mutant bloodlines that inspired angels and demons respectively. Besides, Warren's blood can share his healing with others and that feels very healing hands. I feel like a winged Tiefling could be a better choice, especially after Apocalypse gives him those devily powers. Maybe even stick with a Half elf then get wings later on with the divine soul subclass, and you can pick up flight early at 5. Overall good build.

The original version was just a variant on the DMG Aasimar and the SCAG Winged Tiefling, but with the Descent to Avernus AL season, they added a different version. It's basically swap resistances and your aura for 30 ft permanent flight (can hover). So you keep your healing touch which can easily cover Angels ability to heal fast and regenerate over time.
I'd think that the Winged Aasimaar might fit better for Angel...the healing ability actually works though would be, entirely, used on himself (He has a healing factor). I'd almost go Monk/Warlock with him, for everything.
Still pulling for Eglantine Price (Bednobs and Broomsticks), Winifred Sanderson (Hocus Pocus), Councilor Troi (Star Trek: tNG) Mary Poppins, and the Reverend Doctor Syn (The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh). Bugs Bunny would be good too. Sir Dagonet King Arthur's court jester (Idylls of the King/Morte d'Arthur) would be wonderful.
I love that you took eldritch spear with an aarakocra. I came up with that combo on my own a lil ways back (before seeing this video) and thought that was a busted method of attack. Great to see you agree too. Lol. Actually it gets more busted when you fly up 300ft plus half your movement. Then you use half your movement in a turn to fly down to 300ft above the ground. Blast away with all of your beams. Then fly back up with the remaining movement. Thereby making MOST weapons and spells unable to reach you at all. Truly is a cheap tactic that totally does not work underground but anytime you're in the woods or anywhere out in the open then you are brokenly unbeatable if you just spam this tactic. Lol Also would it also work to conjure a Warhammer or maul or whatever the heaviest weapon you can summon. Fly way above someone and just drop it? Heavy weapon means it should drop straight down. DM could probably offer a dex save to target below as like a jump out of the way type reaction. But if you're flying 300ft up then you could assume that the creature who gets slammed should also take the fall damage from the weapon dropping from so high. I'd allow that in my games. But I allow a whole lot. Even aarakocras. Lol. I do sometimes nerf the flying speed at level 1 thing. Just not very much. I make it a time based thing. 1 min per character level. Usable PB times per short rest. That way the flight grows over time but like the winged boots. No one can just fly over the ocean because unlimited flight. Lol. And short rests aren't hard to come by. Especially if you land on something really really high up and can't be hit by anything. Lol

I feel the same but divine soul sorcerer gain ability to manifest wings on 14th level, but Angel has wings always. So I think that aasimar protector (or avenger 'cause one of his nickname was Avenging Angel) would be quite good
I'm gonna say, you probably should have chosen Grasp of Hadar over repelling blast, given that you're flying you pull them up and drop them, dealing additional d6s of damage

Warren has never had energy projection abilities so far as I can tell, and while I love Warlock for him, I'm surprised to see Eldritch blast selected seemingly just to make him an effective DND character rather than based on any type of character background? 🥺

Depends what you mean with nerfed. In Monsters of the Multiverse there flying speed is now equal to their walking speed, which is now normally 30 ft.. So it's less fast in flying, but the other parts all got a little bit better.
@@pedrogarcia8706 Personally, don't know if the 20 feet makes much differenec, but I have never played one. But I do think that it is now more balanced, regardless.

Angels main power is actually reality warping if we take in to account the absurd number of retcons he has had done to him.

Healing factor! Warren was the original healing factor mutant, and his blood can cure cancer. That is more than just flight.

Angel always struck me as rather boring, but here he has a few basic options and a gimmick or two. Nice job.
Flavor your spiritual weapon to be a throwing knife, flavor your eldritch blast bolts as feathers, if you take magic missile, make those feathers too.
A build I think would be pretty cool is Gorr the God Butcher.

The fly speed is specifically "equal to your walking speed" which is important for monks, barbarians, and spellcasters with long strider 😉

He is an External making him basically a lich. Apocalypse also bestows powers like a warlock patron.
