Thank you for video =) You can right-click on another ship to show range ruler and measure distance / arcs. Also, in v1.0.1 AI is improved and prefers to focus fire to finish almost destroyed ships.
On another note the rocks (obstacles) can be changed in the list builder. At the bottom to the left you’ll see a link that says obstacles. Click on that and you can change the obstacles for the list. When you select a random list the list will have the default rocks. So if you want to play against the AI with a different set of obstacles build a custom list for the AI. Really glad you made a review. Hands down my favorite simulator for X-wing. Also very little learning curve.
Hey Nick, about 07:00 when you complained about being locked in to the dial select once you've begun. If you want a second look or change your mind, during the planning phase you can re-select a ship and change the dial to something else. You're only locked in once you commit to the end of the planning phase. Good video as always!
I was very pleasantly surprised. Very intuitive and simple to jump right into. Far better than tabletop simulator. I’d love it if they eventually incorporate the huge ships!
It's great to have an AI opponent to try out that silly janky list you might think of but don't want to use a real-opponent game opportunity on. The AI has limits - it can't handle anything needing subtlety, which is probably why the random squad option usually gives it something swarmy/bulky. One big advantage to Fly Casual is that you can run it on a phone, which you can't with TTS or Vassal (unless there's some techie sorcery I'm unaware of). Phone use isn't ideal - a phone screen is too small for comfort, the AI takes a lot longer to det dials, and it hammers the battery something fierce - but it's still a way to get that X-Wing fix.
Hey Nick, If you download the newest update for Fly Casual, you can right click on your opponents. Then it will show you a physical range ruler and give you a rundown of if they are in the bullseye arc. I've found that it is really helpful and makes the game even smoother.
Been loving fly casual lately! Only bummer is the AI sometimes makes really illogical choices and doesn’t make use of certain upgrades/ pilot abilities. Other than I think it’s fantastic!
Nope not the camera mic. It's a Rhode Shotgun mic sitting ON the camera. It just struggles to isolate my voice and fights with the noise coming off my computer fans, so it's not ideal. But it's a great mic for other uses.
Great program indeed. I’ve been using it for some months now. It works great. Lately the AI is aggressive. Which is great to test your lists against the AI. Really works. Also Nick the latest version is 1.0.1, which has more pilots, upgrades and an improved AI.
Hey that looks very good! Had some real fun with this. The AI is pretty good. Except: several times it has flown its ships off the board. Think they can fix that? Integration with the FFG squad builder would be nice too
Just tried this out for myself. Isn't it wonderful? I think you are right about the multiple generics. It threw 6 Crackshot A-Wings at me. Chewed them up nicely with 4 T70s.
Nick I agree with you regarding the range calculation on this simulator. I don't feel it is accurate either. However, the range calculation is just. Whatever is range 3 for you is the same for the AI. Therefore, when playing the game sometimes you may feel from appearance that you are too far away for a range 3 shot; try it anyway. The worst that can happen is you get an exception. Another matter is arc. Sometimes I feel that arc is not accurate either. Yet, again "what is good for the goose is good for the gander" in this system. Therefore, you will have the same considerations from the AI. Those are areas that I feel should be improved. The app highlights ships that you can potentially shoot. However, you still may be out of range or arc. That Firespray appeared to be in arc and in range. Yet, the system gave you an exception. That is one of those quirks. However, you'll notice as you play that the AI may not take a shot on its turn towards one of your ships, when you clearly notice that on an actual tabletop that shot would've been viable. However, now that the app is getting additional level of acceptance, coverage and increased use, there is a possibility that the developers will receive the much needed funding for improvement. Remember most of these things in github is programmed by people for free or donations, just like your work on your channel. Keep up the good work and thank you for all of your videos and ideas.
If you want to fly against a more meta you can actually load presets from the "popular" squads option. Lots of tourney lists in there and the ai flies them pretty well. Man I dont trust those dice though. The AI player dice stats are always conveniently superior in most of my games.
Is there an AI like the old Mark 13 app for 1.0, I miss using my Thousand dollar toy collection IRL. I liked how it just selected the move and action for the opponent
Ive looked at the stats for my games in this and i find that the enemy tends to roll hits and evades over everything else. The system seems to roll better for the AI.
I Have been using it to "Git GuD" for over a year now. Great training aid to teach yourself X-Wing and practice that list. It also highlights abilities and those pesky queues.
I hate stuff like Tabletop Simulator. It's an abuse of computers to recreate the physical world on a computing machine, but with a vastly inferiour interface to the real world. It's absurd to not even implement the rules of a game and have no mechanisms to enforce the round and phase structure. smh Fly Casual is much more like how gaming on a computer is meant to be. It's just sad is has no UNDO functionality. It would help with learning to find the best solution to a situation.
This is awsome learning tool, but the dice algorithm is fickle...sometimes it favors overwhelmingly the player, then in another game it favors the A.I.🤷🏽♂️
Yeah that's what dice do. Although I think the dice favored the AI in this case, nothing seemed too skewed in any concerning way. I made a video on dice salt and how players perceive bias a while back.
@@HairyNick I Roll real dice with the program just out of curiosity, and its nowhere near a real dice probability...it certainly favors one side or the other erratically.
Thank you for video =)

FlyCasualGame thanks for this!! AI flies its ships off the board, making it too easy to win. Can you fix that?
Cheers! Thanks for the software. :)
The dice roller also craps on standard mathematics, can ya fix that too?
@@madsam7582 Dice are rolling in the same way / with the same chances as real ones. I cannot fix wrong perception of some players.
I love Fly casual, really nice, can recommend, thank you for giving this a look

I absolutely love the FLY CASUAL app, especially now in they added the ability to adjust the Talon Rolls in the 1.0 update.

Yup I learned that after the fact. It doesn't feel intuitive to do that, though. Like I felt I was being locked in while trying to do it.

Just installed on my tablet and it's amazing, thanks for giving this a look.
I definitely like the reminders for triggers. Definitely a good practice for anyone trying to practice a new list (especially before you buy...)

I'm not particularly skilled at X-Wing but the AI gets so lucky in my experience playing Fly Casual
I'm downloading it right now. Thanks for this video.
This is a great program, I love it. Hopefully internet play will be avaliable soon
Really good program. It's been satisfying my X-Wing fix since I can't play IRL right now.
Just waiting for Epic...

before you shoot you can right-click on any ship to check the range and the bullseye
Thanks its really good. New verion you can change obstacles beforw the game starts. I really helps during a lockdown
There was a multi-player mode just released a few weeks after this went live!
I'm salty about the dice too. Infact, everything you named is what jades me as well.
I'm guessing there's no option to throw a thermal detonator at those dice after an encounter like that.

Was just about to get into TTS more but this looks great. Seems like they done a lot of stream lining already cant wait to see the finish product.
Use TTS if you want to play against others.

Is there a way to save a game in progress -- if I have to stop and return later? I stopped the game I was just playing and I can't get it back.
Switching between 2d and 3D helps me with determining range.
True, it's just I don't do that as it's not a tool I'm used to using IRL.
This might be interesting considering no-one I know plays X-Wing
Is there an AI like the old Mark 13 app for 1.0, I miss using my Thousand dollar toy collection IRL. I liked how it just selected the move and action for the opponent
Ummmm I believe this started out in 1.0..... so you should be able to just use an old build to play that.
you have the same luck with dice that I do in Fly Casual
its not luck - the f-in thing cheats , its not as bad as what it rolls but when it rolls it :@
We need Epic!
YEAH! extra evades for no reason
It has Little fautes but it is fast and very usual to play alone against ui
Never seen so many natty evades!
I must have clicked hard mode somewhere...
Ive looked at the stats for my games in this and i find that the enemy tends to roll hits and evades over everything else. The system seems to roll better for the AI.
Dice are rolled in the same way for both player and AI.
I dunno..... we better do a salt water test on your dice, me thinks. ;)
