Well! Guerlain just gave their customers a giant middle finger. I must have about 20 of the older lipsticks and covers, and now my investment will be trash when the lipsticks are gone. And $80 for the new ones? I'm not buying these. In fact, Guerlain may have lost me as a customer. I am that angry. They are untrustworthy. @@LexiJong They did it on purpose with the idea that we'd have to start collecting all over again. I actually prefer the gold, and I have gold/silver cases that could work with a gold lipstick. But Guerlain just saw to it that they won't. Couple that with the astounding price rise, and they've proven that they think women are stupid. Well, they're wrong about this woman.
I agree. I've treasured my little Rouge G collection, but knowing I can't keep using the cases makes me furious. Thanks, Lexi, for letting us know what Guerlain's been up to. (FWIW, as of May 30/24, the Canadian site is still showing the "old" Rouge Gs. No sign of the new ones.)
I am so upset that the new lipsticks don’t fit the old cases. I didn’t even order cases because I have empty old ones. I may no longer purchase from them at all. They should have informed us of the change and, as I already wrote, which shades were old colors that were reformulated. I feel like they bait and switched and I’m pissed.
This also shows that they really don’t care about waste. Since we can’t use new lipsticks going forward to go with all the cases we all already have what do we do with those cases? They go in the trash. Those cases can’t be given to your heirs or passed down because you don’t have new product inside. It’s really revealing on the business side for the entire beauty industry which contributes to consumerism and waste.
It's a total cash grab. They must have found a cheaper factory and HAD to make changes. There is no other explanation. LVMH don't make enough profit 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Absolutely unacceptable price increases. Leadership hunting for record bonus payouts end of the year? Don't need it. I had a few engraved for my daughter thinking that when she’s older she could just buy some lipstick inserts. How sad!!! What a wasteful situation that Guerlain has created.
I can’t imagine spending hundreds of $ on refillable cases for all those years to be deceived this way by a brand. It’s very stupid from their side, because an old client will not purchase new cases, being afraid they will change the shape again, and, a new customer like me, seeing what they did to their loyal clients, will not invest either.
Great video! I almost purchased 3 new cases and lipstick but I saw your short that they don't fit the old cases. I waited for this video to decide. But now I am just mad. As others have said, we invested. I can say that I am perfectly happy to never purchase another Guerlain lip.
Brands owned by conglomerates will do this kind of thing. They're not thinking about the brand loyal customer, they're extracting quick profits in a hot luxury market. I've been skeptical of any brand's expensive components that were promoted as collectible and refillable. The instant the brand stops making refills, the component becomes useless. Who wants to pay $22 + $42 to carry a Frankenstein lipstick case? Nevermind $80, with no guarantee that future refills will exist. Why did Guerlain/LVMH do this to customers who already have a collection and are the most inclined to buy more? This kind of gamesmanship takes away respect for the brand. It's a pass for me.
Couldn't agree more! it is a hard pass for me too. So disappointed and angry at Guerlain for making the old cases useless trash now. I feel so deceived by the brand.
I had never bought a Rouge G lipstick from Guerlain, although always wanted and still do, but it is so disappointing to see this for those customers who have bought these for years. I can't feel your anger in the same way but that doesn't mean I don't understand. I completely agree that this was entirely unnecessary from Guerlain's part and that makes me very sad as I love them as a brand and house. Why would they do this, especially when they're such big advocates for "sustainability" and conservation?? As you mentioned, Lexi, it's such a small change but one that makes ALL the difference, and they weren't humble or wise enough to see that. Which is very unlike them because if you know their history, most of the Guerlain members remained and were humble despite their huge success. But I guess that's gotta get lost somewhere along the way, especially when money comes into play... so sad. Anyway, I am still thinking about picking up a couple of shades because as I said, I have always wanted to try this line and I love gold packaging lol but I am definitely not as excited now as I was before this video, and my purchase will be a lot smaller than originally planned. I am really bummed at the brand's decision. Regardless, Lexi, there is no reviewer like you. You are simply THE BEST. Your honesty, your EXTENSIVE details and swatches, but never boring or superfluous, your calmness and pose, your intellect and research; I mean, we can't ask for anything more. Wow! This was amazing. All of the details, all of the textures, and all of the colours. Thank you. The swatches are next level, always. My overall impression is they have incorporated shrinkflation, green washing and built in obsolescence in the most stylish way possible.
Thanks so much for all your swatches and thoughts! I’m beyond disappointed that Guerlain pulled this switcheroo with the cases in color and, mostly, fit! What’s the point of having refillable cases when you can’t rely on them being so due to the brand’s greed? I also loved the previous formulas and am worried about not liking them as much now. I may have to try one of each, but I’m less excited than I would have been.
You don't need any of them. Just saying... We don't have to try or test anything just because a brand is greedy and couldn't care less about the walking purses that consider themselves their customers.

Ugh!! It only confirms to me that the recent trend of constant reformulations and package revisions are simply so done so we go out and buy all the new ones. It's sad because I like this lipstick. Totally wasteful on Guerlain's part. Now we have to throw out the original cases and begin all over again if we want to buy a new lipstick. No thanks Guerlain. I am turned off. I agree. I'm definitely going to keep using my old guerlains but not sure what to do about the old cases afterwards. I really don't want to get rid of them but I hate having things that aren't used taking up space.

I hate that Guerlain does this. I have a few of their very beautiful, very expensive powder compacts, and then they changed the size of the refills. That said, I will buy one of the new lipsticks - your swatches were super helpful!
I love how they brag about the new cases having less impact on the environment than previous cases. Don’t they realize what a huge impact to the earth of making the old cases obsolete? What a crummy way to treat their long time customers and case collectors! I don’t love the gold. How hard would it be to have both silver and gold. This is a huge disappointment all around. I’m glad you picked up a wide variety of colors since the online swatches are different.
I agree and there really doesn't seem to be any impactful size difference since the new lipsticks fit the old cases the same way the new cases fit the old lipsticks. It looks like it is just that curvature that is causing the difference.
Im so glad I got a refill of my favorite lipstick of all time, satin #23 last year!! I’m Guerlains #1 die hard simp but this leaves a bad taste in my mouth, maybe it was by mistake? If we make enough noise about it maybe they’d listen? The Guerlain cases are the most special lipsticks on the market. I know at some point years down the line they’ll probably be done, but not so soon!!! The one reason I want a couple is because they’re gold now. I’m a gold girlie
I really love the new ones but the case issue is very disappointing. I don't think they will change back at this point but I hope we can at least make enough noise that they think before doing something like this again. Although perhaps they were just entranced by the idea of everyone buying all new cases. In reality though, a lot of people would have just bought them since they are gold or because there are new designs or they want a case for one of the new shades. It's a shame.

I have a large collection of Rouge G cases and lipsticks and am so annoyed at what Guerlain did that I will no longer support this brand. There are a lot of brands with great lipsticks so as much as I loved collecting the cases I won't support this money grab.... They don't give a damn about their customers.... Guerlain said that their customers have been asking for lighter more environmentally friendly packaging which I doubt but even if they did (and they didn't) Guerlain could have made environmentally friendly package without changing the size... this is another beauty company doing a money grab and frankly I am tired of these luxury beauty brands increasing their prices but not their quality or customer service.
Guerlain have just saved me a lot of money. I wont be purchasing any of their new cases or lipsticks. Shame on Guerlain. Plenty of beautiful lipsticks in other brands to choose from. Their previous cases set them apart ftom other brands & imo this is a bad move.
That's so annoying about the size and fit! Are they crazy? They must think we are. That sustainability excuse is BS. They've ADDED to each one of our carbon footprints by making the old cases redundant, and what are they going to do with old lipsticks that will no longer fit inside the new cases? I would have bought 2 of the pink lipsticks (I have 2 'old' cases) but now I won't. I've also bought the cases + lipsticks as presents for people. What's the point of refillables someone can't refill, Incredibly short-sighted.
This is really upsetting news. I have collected my Rouge G lipsticks like precious jewels and this totally feels like a cash grab. I only wear Guerlain makeup and this decision is deeply disappointing. I look forward to the new lipstick colours and cases each season and I love swapping them around to match an outfit or my mood. Really bad decision.

Thank you Jocelyne! The new lipsticks are nice but I personally prefer the creamy, buttery texture of the previous satins over the more siliconized version. The velvets are great both ways so maybe I will come to love the new velvet formula more than the previous one but I'm just not quite used to it yet.
@LexiJong I almost bought one and would have cried when it arrived. I hate dimethicone in lipstick!! My problem is that I don't want to eat it. Have you tried violettes other brand violette_fr? I would love to know how it compares!
I have about 30 of the LE lipstick cases. I won't be buying new lipsticks cases if the lipsticks don't fit the old cases. I'm furious. They have done this with the LE face powder compacts too, and I have about a dozen of those. Well I will just use up my old makeup, which is fine and has not gone off, and I won't buy any new.🤬
It is a huge let down that the new lipsticks do not fit the old cases. This shows lack of respect to the customer. I have 4 old cases which I got initialled for my daughter so that I can pass on to her and now what am I supposed to do with them? This shows that the brand is unreliable and I refuse to purchase the new ones because who knows if they will not change the design in a few years? Also, I take this as a lesson going forward as a customer to not to pay high prices for novelty items which can no longer be used in the future.
I have been collecting the cherry blossom cases, but I think I’m done now. It would not have been hard at all for them to keep the same sizes and not insult loyal customers. I have one classic case that goes in my purse-when its lipstick expires I’ll probably clean out the old holder and pop in a lipstick bullet from a different brand so at least I can still use it.
FYI. I pop the Iipstick bullet off the bottom piece. It’s tight but it comes out. The Dior refills fit in there. Maybe it will be the same with the new lipsticks.
If you pop the lipstick part out, that may work, bc the lipstick bullet seems exactly the same - but the width of the outer component is different - also, the length is different - new one has been shortened in length with a plastic stopper of some kind inside … so I’m not completely sure your idea would work… mmmm…. Maybe I’ll measure - thanks for the great idea bc maybe I can use this in the future! - at first I thought the length was the only change, and maybe I could dig into the unit and pop out the stopper (no idea if possible), but the width of the bottom click area is different (more narrow with new) - since I need a case for an old lipstick, popping the bullet part out won’t help me for this 😢- it seems completely *on purpose* to not be interchangeable and that is very upsetting/side-eyeing
So, a Dior lipstick refill could fit in the thingy that goes inside this G cases? I once grabbed a tester of G rouge and the lipstick bar 💄 fell on the floor. I thought it had just sort of dried out so it game me the idea that any lipstick bullet could go in it, so

FYI, The old lipstick are too big to fit in the new cases, at all - I have an old lipstick (well, 6 months old at most) that I didn’t get around to buying a case for yet - I was waiting for a nice specialty case, like in the fall or holiday - but it is too big to even fit awkwardly; which seems like a *purposeful* choice - the actual lipstick is the same size, but in new, there is a stopper at the end to make the holder shorter - I thought I may/could pop that out … BUT, noticed that the base/click part, the ledge is narrower - no way to knock that off/down, so my old lipstick will not fit - so I guess I have to find a case from another market place before they all sell out 😢 - real irritating- I do like the new case I did buy… it is lighter which I didn’t like, though I do like slightly smaller size; and gold (if it doesn’t flake over time) But I wonder now if they are going to discontinue their permanent shadows - they first came out with quads that had baked gelee formula (or something special to it)- but the new shades are mostly regular (and cheaper) shadows - doesn’t bode well;, I’m afraid it will go down in quality now

I just received the new one I purchased and am so disappointed it doesn’t fit the old ones. I have several cases of the old ones as well. Now I’m just hopeful the vendors that carried the old version start selling them at a discount.
Wow, you're right, the swatches online are nothing like what they are in real life. I bought 520 Rouge Profound because I thought it was a deeper red, and I even "tried" it with their online camera. But the swatch you provided us looks like one of the Chanel's I just bought. I'm bummed about the old cases not fitting, and it does seem dumb they would do this. It would be helpful, Lexi, if you could swatch the old 8 satin versus the new shades to find the closest. I am curious about that. Thank you!
I will try to get to some more swatches next week. I didn't purchase the new 8 but I have the old 8 and the old holiday 8 which are very close to each other but holiday is a bit more pink. Perhaps we can do a swatch party live or something.
I’ve never clicked so fast! While I love the new packaging (I’m a gold girlie), I do wish the shape had not been changed. I’m probably going to pick up one satin and one matte. I loved the old satin formula but I found the old velvet to be drying. I might try swatching some at my closest Neiman Marcus because the swatches on the website aren’t great.
Sorry to hear about the lipstick cases. I no longer buy makeup that needs a separate purchase for packaging. I am talking about you Trish McEvoy, CDP and some others. As soon as they reformulated the packaging becomes unusable. My only recent exception was the Christian Louboutin face pallet. I purchased both on sale and the packaging is stunning. Meanwhile, I have so many “other” blushes and highlighters that the 2 blushes and highlighter in the pallet will last a lifetime.

I think this is truly unfair for the old customer who invested in several cases and which won't work anymore. I can tell by your lip swatches that the new satin formula is thinner than I prefer. The texture of the now "old" Rouge G satins is luxurious and rich. I know that the new satins aren't THAT sheer, but seeing them swatched is giving me LE Luxuriously Lucent vibes. 😢.😢
I just received mine today and was shocked, the new case is much lighter than the previous version. And the new lipstick refill doesnt fit the old case. Very dodgy of guerlain Btw, the formulation cant beat the original version from 15 years ago. I had a shade G16 - Gabrielle. Sadly i threw the case after its finished.
Fantastic video! I caved and bought one case and one lipstick. The studded case matches a YSL handbag I have. To change the shape of the case is really not sustainable.
I agree! I honestly would not have bought so many if I had realized it. My fault for not reading everything before purchasing but I never would have expected this to change.
I was very unhappy that the new lipsticks don’t fit properly into the old cases. I have some beauties and hate to think that they’ll be worthless once the lipsticks are used up or decluttered. I applaud Guerlain for making an effort to reduce the carbon footprint in manufacturing the case, but I think the change in size was more a marketing decision than an ecological one.
It's hysterical how they're trumpeting how ecofriendly their new Rouge G cases are, how they help the environment, while just ensuring tens of thousands of the old cases are useless! I was honestly intrigued by the new cases, but the hell with it. I like the old Rouge G formula, but there are so many other lipsticks from other brands which are as good or better. I'm not going to get sucked in again to Guerlain's hype, just to have them "reinvent" a lipstick that doesn't fit the cases I already have. It's just total BS.
Exactly! I really don't think it would have been hard to make the case the same exact size and just make it a bit lighter and eco friendly. It's a minor size difference.
If you love your old case, don't think it's a waste if the new lipsticks don't fit. There are videos on YT on how to refill old vintage lipstick cases by freezing the new lipstick and inserting it into the old tube
The shades you chose are beautiful. However, it really bugs me that you picked up five velvets and three of them look almost exactly the same. I know how different those ones looked on the site, especially the ones that were supposed to look darker and more red. Well, at least the lipsticks look more distinct from each other on your lips vs on your arm swatches.
I ordered some of the new ones yesterday but I'm disappointed to find out the new cases don't fit - all that money spent on the old cases... The new ones are beautiful, but I wish they would've thought of their customer before making that decision.
I just bought; satin 06; le rose brun and satin 131 le beige praline for my own birthday! 🥳 With the cases; black with the studs and another new one; like fur with panter print; for the beige praline. ❤😊 But indeed it is stupid that Guerlain changed the form and the colour of the new cases, although I prefer the gold over the silver from the cases.

521 is my top pick as well. I still like how it looks on the site better than the live swatches though. I guess the photography with the background shade behind the models makes the colours look more intense and saturated.
I think my favourite is the greige from drives van norten - I know I've messed up the spelling there! Naughty of guerlain not allowing cases to fit exact. If I had to pick a favourite it would be your choice. Very good video but I won't be buying any this time
They all look great on you Lexi, my fave is Rose brun. Your review is top notch as always but the change in case fitting has annoyed me. I got rosy bloom with the cherry blossom case in 2023 so now when i finish it I'll have to reinvest in another case as well as a new lipstick? Either that or just use the case as a mirror, very very disappointing. What is going on with these luxury brands! Change can be a good thing but this is just rude!

I have been always prefering the velvets over the satins from Guerlain. But I am sad and disappointed that my cherished old cases wouldn't be reusable anymore. Of course, with the amount of lipsticks we all have in our collections, it will take years to use them up. I hope they won't go bad. At this point of time and for this year: I won't buy new lipsticks. I truly enjoy the Rose Pop Lipbalm combined with one of my favorite Prada colors in their soft matte formula. ❤

Thank you for this info and I think it was wrong for Guerlain to have changed the size and shape of the container. Also, you may suit Le Cerise Noir and Le Beige Praline but I'm not absolutely sure.
I was really hoping that they would get more cooler tones added to the line. My favorite lipstick of all time is Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Fair. I don’t think I could make any of these shades work. And I really want to! Such a bummer. I really wanted a fancy lipstick case. And it looks like the brand really upset all their devotees. Bad move all around.

I remember the old days as well where the Rouge Gs used to come with the silver case. I seem to recall that the lipstick was $48 Canadian dollars. Now the new ones with case are $100 Canadian dollars.

66 was actually the shade of my very first Rouge G lipstick back when they went by names (Gracia)! Unfortunately none of these shades I purchased quite match it but I'll keep an eye out.

Yesterday I had a newsletter from Guerlain about the lipsticks, so I clicked through to the site and right away saw 5 shades from the new launch that I wanted to purchase. Because of the price tag of adding a case with each one, I decided to leave it for a day or two instead of being impulsive. Now watching your video, I am shocked to see the difference in some of the shades by how they appear in photos on the site, versus on your video! I bet they get a lot of returns.
I found that some old shades with the same numbers are totally different colors from the re-released ones. The 539 for example was more brown in the old formula and now its a bit more coral. I prefer the new one to be honest! Would you be able to compare the old and new with same numbers? That would be really really helpful!!

Hi Lexi, I’m glad I don’t have any Guerlain lipsticks. I just have their lip balms and love them. This reformulation looks like a cash grab. I might buy a satin lipstick-518 if I still like the colour when I’ll try on my lips. So far they are not available in Australia yet. The Meteorites (new formula) just came few days ago. Now I want to buy the Chanel Sublimage concealer and not sure about the shade. 🤔I have light neutral skin tone (Alabaster in Chantecaille foundation or B20 in Chanel Les Beiges foundation) and I thought shade 20 will be good but the girl from the counter recommended shade 32 which looks very dark for me but she said this shade is better as a colour corrector. I have circles but they are not very dark. Thanks for sharing!🙂

Well! Guerlain just gave their customers a giant middle finger. I must have about 20 of the older lipsticks and covers, and now my investment will be trash when the lipsticks are gone. And $80 for the new ones? I'm not buying these. In fact, Guerlain may have lost me as a customer. I am that angry. They are untrustworthy. If they made my last investment useless, they'll do it again. But not to me. Thanks for your thorough review, Lexi. I'm not mad at you, just mad at Guerlain. @@LexiJong They did it on purpose with the idea that we'd have to start collecting all over again. I actually prefer the gold, and I have gold/silver cases that could work with a gold lipstick. But Guerlain just saw to it that they won't. Couple that with the astounding price rise, and they've proven that they think women are stupid. Well, they're wrong about this woman.

I'm pretty sure it'll take you a fair bit of time to get through 20 lipsticks so your investment is safe for now
I am so upset that the new lipsticks don’t fit the old cases. I didn’t even order cases because I have empty old ones. I may no longer purchase from them at all. They should have informed us of the change and, as I already wrote, which shades were old colors that were reformulated. I feel like they bait and switched and I’m pissed.
Yeah it's upsetting 😮most don't want to keep buying these cases which are extremely heavy and impractical and now we can't even use them anymore 😕
This also shows that they really don’t care about waste. Since we can’t use new lipsticks going forward to go with all the cases we all already have what do we do with those cases? They go in the trash. Those cases can’t be given to your heirs or passed down because you don’t have new product inside. It’s really revealing on the business side for the entire beauty industry which contributes to consumerism and waste.

I can’t imagine spending hundreds of $ on refillable cases for all those years to be deceived this way by a brand. It’s very stupid from their side, because an old client will not purchase new cases, being afraid they will change the shape again, and, a new customer like me, seeing what they did to their loyal clients, will not invest either.

Great video! I almost purchased 3 new cases and lipstick but I saw your short that they don't fit the old cases. I waited for this video to decide. But now I am just mad. As others have said, we invested. I can say that I am perfectly happy to never purchase another Guerlain lip.
Brands owned by conglomerates will do this kind of thing. They're not thinking about the brand loyal customer, they're extracting quick profits in a hot luxury market. I've been skeptical of any brand's expensive components that were promoted as collectible and refillable. The instant the brand stops making refills, the component becomes useless. Who wants to pay $22 + $42 to carry a Frankenstein lipstick case? Nevermind $80, with no guarantee that future refills will exist. Why did Guerlain/LVMH do this to customers who already have a collection and are the most inclined to buy more? This kind of gamesmanship takes away respect for the brand. It's a pass for me.
Couldn't agree more! it is a hard pass for me too. So disappointed and angry at Guerlain for making the old cases useless trash now. I feel so deceived by the brand.

I had never bought a Rouge G lipstick from Guerlain, although always wanted and still do, but it is so disappointing to see this for those customers who have bought these for years. I can't feel your anger in the same way but that doesn't mean I don't understand. I completely agree that this was entirely unnecessary from Guerlain's part and that makes me very sad as I love them as a brand and house. Why would they do this, especially when they're such big advocates for "sustainability" and conservation?? As you mentioned, Lexi, it's such a small change but one that makes ALL the difference, and they weren't humble or wise enough to see that. Which is very unlike them because if you know their history, most of the Guerlain members remained and were humble despite their huge success. But I guess that's gotta get lost somewhere along the way, especially when money comes into play... so sad. Anyway, I am still thinking about picking up a couple of shades because as I said, I have always wanted to try this line and I love gold packaging lol but I am definitely not as excited now as I was before this video, and my purchase will be a lot smaller than originally planned. I am really bummed at the brand's decision. Regardless, Lexi, there is no reviewer like you. You are simply THE BEST. Your honesty, your EXTENSIVE details and swatches, but never boring or superfluous, your calmness and pose, your intellect and research; I mean, we can't ask for anything more. Wow! This was amazing. All of the details, all of the textures, and all of the colours. Thank you. The swatches are next level, always. My overall impression is they have incorporated shrinkflation, green washing and built in obsolescence in the most stylish way possible.

Thanks so much for all your swatches and thoughts! I’m beyond disappointed that Guerlain pulled this switcheroo with the cases in color and, mostly, fit! What’s the point of having refillable cases when you can’t rely on them being so due to the brand’s greed? I also loved the previous formulas and am worried about not liking them as much now. I may have to try one of each, but I’m less excited than I would have been.
You don't need any of them. Just saying... We don't have to try or test anything just because a brand is greedy and couldn't care less about the walking purses that consider themselves their customers.

Ugh!! It only confirms to me that the recent trend of constant reformulations and package revisions are simply so done so we go out and buy all the new ones. It's sad because I like this lipstick. Totally wasteful on Guerlain's part. Now we have to throw out the original cases and begin all over again if we want to buy a new lipstick. No thanks Guerlain. I am turned off. Cle de Peau also has a history of changing the refillable packaging so nothing fits about every 5-7 years. Thank you Lexi for your much appreciated and thorough reviews!!
I agree. I'm definitely going to keep using my old guerlains but not sure what to do about the old cases afterwards. I really don't want to get rid of them but I hate having things that aren't used taking up space.

I hate that Guerlain does this. I have a few of their very beautiful, very expensive powder compacts, and then they changed the size of the refills. That said, I will buy one of the new lipsticks - your swatches were super helpful!

I love how they brag about the new cases having less impact on the environment than previous cases. Don’t they realize what a huge impact to the earth of making the old cases obsolete? What a crummy way to treat their long time customers and case collectors! I don’t love the gold. How hard would it be to have both silver and gold. This is a huge disappointment all around. I’m glad you picked up a wide variety of colors since the online swatches are different.
I agree and there really doesn't seem to be any impactful size difference since the new lipsticks fit the old cases the same way the new cases fit the old lipsticks. It looks like it is just that curvature that is causing the difference.
Im so glad I got a refill of my favorite lipstick of all time, satin #23 last year!! I’m Guerlains #1 die hard simp but this leaves a bad taste in my mouth, maybe it was by mistake? If we make enough noise about it maybe they’d listen? The Guerlain cases are the most special lipsticks on the market. I know at some point years down the line they’ll probably be done, but not so soon!!! The one reason I want a couple is because they’re gold now. I’m a gold girlie
I really love the new ones but the case issue is very disappointing. I don't think they will change back at this point but I hope we can at least make enough noise that they think before doing something like this again. Although perhaps they were just entranced by the idea of everyone buying all new cases. In reality though, a lot of people would have just bought them since they are gold or because there are new designs or they want a case for one of the new shades. It's a shame.

I have a large collection of Rouge G cases and lipsticks and am so annoyed at what Guerlain did that I will no longer support this brand. There are a lot of brands with great lipsticks so as much as I loved collecting the cases I won't support this money grab.... They don't give a damn about their customers.... Guerlain said that their customers have been asking for lighter more environmentally friendly packaging which I doubt but even if they did (and they didn't) Guerlain could have made environmentally friendly package without changing the size... this is another beauty company doing a money grab and frankly I am tired of these luxury beauty brands increasing their prices but not their quality or customer service.

That's so annoying about the size and fit! Are they crazy? They must think we are. That sustainability excuse is BS. They've ADDED to each one of our carbon footprints by making the old cases redundant, and what are they going to do with old lipsticks that will no longer fit inside the new cases? I would have bought 2 of the pink lipsticks (I have 2 'old' cases) but now I won't. I've also bought the cases + lipsticks as presents for people. What's the point of refillables someone can't refill, Incredibly short-sighted.

This is really upsetting news. I have collected my Rouge G lipsticks like precious jewels and this totally feels like a cash grab. I only wear Guerlain makeup and this decision is deeply disappointing. I look forward to the new lipstick colours and cases each season and I love swapping them around to match an outfit or my mood. Thank you Jocelyne! The new lipsticks are nice but I personally prefer the creamy, buttery texture of the previous satins over the more siliconized version. The velvets are great both ways so maybe I will come to love the new velvet formula more than the previous one but I'm just not quite used to it yet.
@LexiJong I almost bought one and would have cried when it arrived. I hate dimethicone in lipstick!! My problem is that I don't want to eat it. Have you tried violettes other brand violette_fr? I would love to know how it compares!

It is a huge let down that the new lipsticks do not fit the old cases. This shows lack of respect to the customer. I have 4 old cases which I got initialled for my daughter so that I can pass on to her and now what am I supposed to do with them? This shows that the brand is unreliable and I refuse to purchase the new ones because who knows if they will not change the design in a few years? Also, I take this as a lesson going forward as a customer to not to pay high prices for novelty items which can no longer be used in the future.
I did the same way and set aside some special cases for my daughters and now they will never be able to use them.

I have been collecting the cherry blossom cases, but I think I’m done now. It would not have been hard at all for them to keep the same sizes and not insult loyal customers. I have one classic case that goes in my purse-when its lipstick expires I’ll probably clean out the old holder and pop in a lipstick bullet from a different brand so at least I can still use it.

FYI. I pop the Iipstick bullet off the bottom piece. It’s tight but it comes out. The Dior refills fit in there. Maybe it will be the same with the new lipsticks.

If you pop the lipstick part out, that may work, bc the lipstick bullet seems exactly the same - but the width of the outer component is different - also, the length is different - new one has been shortened in length with a plastic stopper of some kind inside … so I’m not completely sure your idea would work… mmmm…. Maybe I’ll measure - thanks for the great idea bc maybe I can use this in the future!
- at first I thought the length was the only change, and maybe I could dig into the unit and pop out the stopper (no idea if possible), but the width of the bottom click area is different (more narrow with new) - since I need a case for an old lipstick, popping the bullet part out won’t help me for this 😢- it seems completely *on purpose* to not be interchangeable and that is very upsetting/side-eyeing

FYI, The old lipstick are too big to fit in the new cases, at all - I have an old lipstick (well, 6 months old at most) that I didn’t get around to buying a case for yet - I was waiting for a nice specialty case, like in the fall or holiday - but it is too big to even fit awkwardly; which seems like a *purposeful* choice - the actual lipstick is the same size, but in new, there is a stopper at the end to make the holder shorter - I thought I may/could pop that out … BUT, noticed that the base/click part, the ledge is narrower - no way to knock that off/down, so my old lipstick will not fit - so I guess I have to find a case from another market place before they all sell out 😢 - real irritating- I do like the new case I did buy… it is lighter which I didn’t like, though I do like slightly smaller size; and gold (if it doesn’t flake over time)
But I wonder now if they are going to discontinue their permanent shadows - they first came out with quads that had baked gelee formula (or something special to it)- but the new shades are mostly regular (and cheaper) shadows - doesn’t bode well;, I’m afraid it will go down in quality now

I just received the new one I purchased and am so disappointed it doesn’t fit the old ones. I have several cases of the old ones as well. Now I’m just hopeful the vendors that carried the old version start selling them at a discount.

Wow, you're right, the swatches online are nothing like what they are in real life. I bought 520 Rouge Profound because I thought it was a deeper red, and I even "tried" it with their online camera. But the swatch you provided us looks like one of the Chanel's I just bought. I'm bummed about the old cases not fitting, and it does seem dumb they would do this. It would be helpful, Lexi, if you could swatch the old 8 satin versus the new shades to find the closest. I am curious about that. Thank you!
I will try to get to some more swatches next week. I didn't purchase the new 8 but I have the old 8 and the old holiday 8 which are very close to each other but holiday is a bit more pink. Perhaps we can do a swatch party live or something.

I’ve never clicked so fast! While I love the new packaging (I’m a gold girlie), I do wish the shape had not been changed. I’m probably going to pick up one satin and one matte. I loved the old satin formula but I found the old velvet to be drying. I might try swatching some at my closest Neiman Marcus because the swatches on the website aren’t great.
It's so disappointing since the shape change is so minute. It really seems more like a financial decision vs. any other reason.
Sorry to hear about the lipstick cases. I no longer buy makeup that needs a separate purchase for packaging. I am talking about you Trish McEvoy, CDP and some others. As soon as they reformulated the packaging becomes unusable. My only recent exception was the Christian Louboutin face pallet. I purchased both on sale and the packaging is stunning. Meanwhile, I have so many “other” blushes and highlighters that the 2 blushes and highlighter in the pallet will last a lifetime.

I think this is truly unfair for the old customer who invested in several cases and which won't work anymore. THOUGH I need to say, their lipsticks always dried my lips a lot in the past and I am MORE THAN HAPPY that they finally reformulated them !!! It was really time to do so. I just bought mine!

I can tell by your lip swatches that the new satin formula is thinner than I prefer. The texture of the now "old" Rouge G satins is luxurious and rich. I know that the new satins aren't THAT sheer, but seeing them swatched is giving me LE Luxuriously Lucent vibes. 😢.😢

I just received mine today and was shocked, the new case is much lighter than the previous version. And the new lipstick refill doesnt fit the old case. Very dodgy of guerlain
Btw, the formulation cant beat the original version from 15 years ago. I had a shade G16 - Gabrielle. Sadly i threw the case after its finished.

Fantastic video! I caved and bought one case and one lipstick. The studded case matches a YSL handbag I have. To change the shape of the case is really not sustainable.

I was very unhappy that the new lipsticks don’t fit properly into the old cases. I have some beauties and hate to think that they’ll be worthless once the lipsticks are used up or decluttered. I applaud Guerlain for making an effort to reduce the carbon footprint in manufacturing the case, but I think the change in size was more a marketing decision than an ecological one.

It's hysterical how they're trumpeting how ecofriendly their new Rouge G cases are, how they help the environment, while just ensuring tens of thousands of the old cases are useless! I was honestly intrigued by the new cases, but the hell with it. I like the old Rouge G formula, but there are so many other lipsticks from other brands which are as good or better. I'm not going to get sucked in again to Guerlain's hype, just to have them "reinvent" a lipstick that doesn't fit the cases I already have. It's just total BS.

If you love your old case, don't think it's a waste if the new lipsticks don't fit. There are videos on YT on how to refill old vintage lipstick cases by freezing the new lipstick and inserting it into the old tube

The shades you chose are beautiful. However, it really bugs me that you picked up five velvets and three of them look almost exactly the same. I know how different those ones looked on the site, especially the ones that were supposed to look darker and more red. Well, at least the lipsticks look more distinct from each other on your lips vs on your arm swatches.

Yes, everything is scented and it is fairly strong. The lipsticks aren't as strong as the other items imo.

I just bought; satin 06; le rose brun and satin 131 le beige praline for my own birthday! 🥳 With the cases; black with the studs and another new one; like fur with panter print; for the beige praline. ❤😊 But indeed it is stupid that Guerlain changed the form and the colour of the new cases, although I prefer the gold over the silver from the cases.

It depends on the case but there is a mix of plastic and metals. It is expensive for what it is.

521 is my top pick as well. I still like how it looks on the site better than the live swatches though. I guess the photography with the background shade behind the models makes the colours look more intense and saturated.
I think my favourite is the greige from drives van norten - I know I've messed up the spelling there! Naughty of guerlain not allowing cases to fit exact. If I had to pick a favourite it would be your choice. Very good video but I won't be buying any this time

They all look great on you Lexi, my fave is Rose brun. Your review is top notch as always but the change in case fitting has annoyed me. I got rosy bloom with the cherry blossom case in 2023 so now when i finish it I'll have to reinvest in another case as well as a new lipstick? Either that or just use the case as a mirror, very very disappointing. What is going on with these luxury brands! Change can be a good thing but this is just rude!

Fabulous review. I have a couple of the “old” cases. I’m not fond of the clunkiness so I rarely reach for them. I’ll stick with the SUQQU lip glazes.😊

I have been always prefering the velvets over the satins from Guerlain. But I am sad and disappointed that my cherished old cases wouldn't be reusable anymore. Of course, with the amount of lipsticks we all have in our collections, it will take years to use them up. I hope they won't go bad. At this point of time and for this year: I won't buy new lipsticks. I truly enjoy the Rose Pop Lipbalm combined with one of my favorite Prada colors in their soft matte formula. ❤
I think the old ones will last for a long time.

No, they actually fit the same way that the new lipsticks fit into the old cases with a gap on the side. This was completely avoidable imo.
Thank you for this info and I think it was wrong for Guerlain to have changed the size and shape of the container. Also, you may suit Le Cerise Noir and Le Beige Praline but I'm not absolutely sure.

I was really hoping that they would get more cooler tones added to the line. My favorite lipstick of all time is Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Fair. I don’t think I could make any of these shades work. And I really want to! Such a bummer. I really wanted a fancy lipstick case. And it looks like the brand really upset all their devotees. Bad move all around.

Wow - what a great overview Lexi! Thanks for collecting so many Guerlain Rouge G lip sticks in both the velvet and satin formulas. I am on a no buy for lipsticks right now, as I’ve collected so many from Chanel, Dior , Hermes and Cle ‘ de Peau. I remember the old days as well where the Rouge Gs used to come with the silver case. I seem to recall that the lipstick was $48 Canadian dollars. Now the new ones with case are $100 Canadian dollars.
The prices have really gone up a lot!

66 was actually the shade of my very first Rouge G lipstick back when they went by names (Gracia)! Unfortunately none of these shades I purchased quite match it but I'll keep an eye out.

Yesterday I had a newsletter from Guerlain about the lipsticks, so I clicked through to the site and right away saw 5 shades from the new launch that I wanted to purchase. Because of the price tag of adding a case with each one, I decided to leave it for a day or two instead of being impulsive. Now watching your video, I am shocked to see the difference in some of the shades by how they appear in photos on the site, versus on your video! I bet they get a lot of returns.

I found that some old shades with the same numbers are totally different colors from the re-released ones. The 539 for example was more brown in the old formula and now its a bit more coral. I prefer the new one to be honest! Would you be able to compare the old and new with same numbers? That would be really really helpful!!

I was waiting for your video on these! Thanks as always for your thorough reviews. I’m disappointed in the price increase and the changing of the cases. It really shows that they’re all about the profit and not the heirloom/eco friendly message that they claim. I do love the new cases, but they could have been made in the same form as before without issue. I also wish the new colors were more unique. A lot of these look so similar, it’s crazy.

Lexi, so exciting to see all these lipsticks at once and swatches!!The velvets look real pigmented and I like the shades. I’m not happy what they did to the case. I’ve collected a lot of cases not as many as you and now I feel they will just sit there after the lipstick is finished. It’s nice to hear your honest review that you like the older version better but the new versions are still good. I’m glad I don’t have any Guerlain lipsticks. I just have their lip balms and love them. This reformulation looks like a cash grab. I might buy a satin lipstick-518 if I still like the colour when I’ll try on my lips. So far they are not available in Australia yet. The Meteorites (new formula) just came few days ago.
Now I want to buy the Chanel Sublimage concealer and not sure about the shade. 🤔I have light neutral skin tone (Alabaster in Chantecaille foundation or B20 in Chanel Les Beiges foundation) and I thought shade 20 will be good but the girl from the counter recommended shade 32 which looks very dark for me but she said this shade is better as a colour corrector. I have circles but they are not very dark.

Lexi, is the velvet formula as thin as the velvet metallics?
Yes but more slippy. They are like a thin layer of silicone while the metallics are drier and have more grip.
