As long as you live like a local you will survive here in the Philippines. You don't need those fancy things back home or what other people dream in life as long as your happy and contented on what you have then you will survive. Don't lost hope and always pray to God for whatever things and circumstances you may encounter in a foreign country, just be a good man and you will be loved by the locals.

I cried along with your heartwarming story, sir. I understand that there is a similar story that tells how hundreds of Jewish people during the holocaust were also helped by the Philippines. But stories like this remind us that helping one another transcends nationalities or races; we are all brothers and sisters and we are duty-bound to assist each other especially in the most difficult times. Your story once again reminds us of our humanity.

Andrei, thank you for truly appreciating and highlighting the incomparable kindness of the Filipino People. Whether it is the People of Israel in the mid 1930's and onwards, the Russians in 1954 and onwards, and the Vietnamese in the early 1980's and onwards, Filipinos stood side by side and supported them as Refugees, even when countries turned their backs on them, and gave them help and support, at the crucial time when they needed such help and support the most.

We lived across the road from a lady who immigrated to Australia from the Philippines and she was such a hard working grateful woman. I was born in Manila, grew up in California, and now professional pianist. I had Russian teacher, he was an excellent teacher (!), and fantastic pianist, he grew up during Soviet era around 1950s/60s. He told me many interesting stories - yes life was hard, but it also taught him many things. He said talent is not everything, you must also work hard. He was a composer, was a student of Aram Khatchaturian. He used to perform on television back in Moscow. He eventually came to the U.S.

Ukraine has the support of the US and all of the EU countries as well as many countries of the world. In fact, here in the US, all Ukrainians are given Temporary Protected Status as soon as they set foot on US soil but not Russians. We need to differentiate between the Russian government and people who support the war in Ukraine and the Russians who are against the war. Here in California, Ukrainians and Russians live next to each other and there is no animosity between them because they are all against the war in Ukraine.
The Russians who fled Russia want nothing to do with the war and just want to live in peace with the rest of the world. I want the peace loving Russians to know they can feel safe in the Philippines and not worry about being forced to fight in a war they do not support.

It's not just towards Russians, we believe in general kindness and brotherhood as community. We hope to influence others in a good way. Sandugo (one blood) and bayanihan (communal heroism) is no longer practiced in the bigger cities but in remote places it's still alive especially in remote places in Mindanao.
