- WELCOME BACK! We are back on the FREEDOM FARM and this time we are giving our attention to Lady. I wanted to make quick video to show you what we are doing to put weight on our Tennessee Walker who is was about 100lbs too light. This is a pretty easy method and it seems to be working great so far!
Beet Pulp/Premium Ultima and hay in the morning
hay for lunch
and repeat for dinner
and a few apples here and there.

For fly defense, use: Lemon Essential Oil, 12 drops in a 16 oz spray bottle of distilled water. Remember, pure Lemon Essential Oil, not just lemon oil.
That’s a good idea. I think my wife has some of that.
Thanks too
Hey there. From sunny South Africa. I use a 1/2 gallon bucket full of alfalfa based horse pellets and 1/2 of that bucket (1/4 gallon) of pig grower make sure it doesn't have the bad stuff only lysine. Does wonders for a skinny horse.
That’s a awesome. That sounds like a great combination.
Thanks for sharing. I have a horse that looks like that. Not good as winter approaches. Seriously appreciate this video.
You’re welcome. It didn’t take long for her to put weight on, maybe a couple months.
How many cups of beet pulp do
You give her per day?
Once a day grain feed or twice??
I do one feed scoop in the morning and one in the evening.

Thank you!
Hi there, just a little tip for the flies that's all. A very fine 'ride on fly rug' is brilliant for keeping her comfortable whilst riding , and also the best one I've found for keeping the flies off her in the field is a zebra print one. Flies don't like the pattern as it confuses their eyes so they keep off ! Both have worked so well for me that I no longer have to buy fly repellant , which can work out expensive in the long term. Just a thought to see if the rugs work. And yes, agree with the Avon skin so soft suggestion below - it worked well sprayed on underneath the belly and teat area. Fab video, Lady is looking great now and she's a lovely color too - thanks for posting x
Awesome! Thanks for the tips! I’m going to have to look into that fly rug.

apple cidar vinegar and garlic in their feed helps with flies and parasites
Awesome!! Thanks for the tip.
Spray her down with WD-40 it’s fish bass not all bass that’s what I use and water repellent so it doesn’t come off easily and it’s cheap
Good idea
Already seeing results here in Central Kentucky! Thanks again! I subscribed!!!!
That’s awesome, I am glad to here this video is helping. Thanks for the sub!
My horse isnt skinny, but how do i make him look strong?
Round pen works pretty good. Or if you have an area with a lot of hills to ride on.
Real pinesole and water makes pretty good fly spray 50 50 or stronger
awesome. I will check it out.
Hey dude my danish warm blood horse is like her im not coming to any solution i gave him every thing but still no change what am i gonna do
What type of hay do you have her on? Alfalfa is really good for putting weight on. I have treated her for parasites lately? Sometimes a horse with worms will be hard to put weight on.
Have her vet checked.
Have her teeth “floated” where they take drills and hand tools to even put the wave and uneven or sharp teeth to make easier to eat.
She could also have worm. So be sure to deworm at least 5 days in a row using panacur paste. Can’t be put in the food or it won’t work.
Could also be that the hay you’re feeding may have weeds in it that are keeping her from wanting to eat as much adequate hay
Make sure there’s free range hay. As well as see if she has ulcers in her mouth.
For fly spray I dilute skin so soft with water and I rub that all over my horse and it gets rid of the flies! Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t depends how nasty your flies are, we have a creek next to the barn so we gets tons of flies and it has worked most of the time!
That’s an awesome idea! I’m going to try it this year. We just got another horse so the flies will probably be real bad this year.
Do you feed her that twice a day?
Yes, twice a day until you’re happy with her weight and then slowly start cutting back. Some horses are hard keepers and may require peer pulp during high calorie seasons.
What do you do if your horse doesn’t like beet pulp?
Have you tried mixing it with their grain? That’s what I have to do with her alfalfa pellets.
Linseed oil.
I heard that works well too.
Rice bran, maybe?
