There is more than a grain of truth to that. Helping without expecting anything in return takes away dignity. Most of us can manage to do a simple job that would bring self-respect.

This was the case of the last place I lived. The cops were there daily. And my car was targeted more than once. I had a ladder and hose stolen. And to top it off I had to deal with a witch of a Karen on the other side of me. At one point I had enough and just took my chances to move out and risk buying a much better place. Now I deal with HOA Karens.

Have you seen the interviews with property owners who say police will not help with squatters on their property? This property is boarded up which is what the city tells you to do. When I was living in Oregon, my home was next to a park. Ppl were setting fire against the trees, coming across to my property, having 3 some sex during the daytime, camping out, pooping on my driveway, breaking into my home, and multiple attempting break ins after the furst burglary.. Police did not do much about what was going on at the park or on my property. Also, police hands were tied as City Mayor did not want the homeless bothered. Yep, I remember homeless ppl pooping/peeing on the downtown streets and camping next to the stores.. After my experience, I said to myself, hack with living in the democratic States. Owners in my area have put up tall chain link fences topped with barbed wire. They just cut through it. Property owners can't stop this when the authorities won't enforce the laws. I have found people on my property and I have to show proof I belong there. I'm then told they will write a report but it's up to me to remove them. 🙄🤷

I was homeless many moons ago and didn’t start one fire. Now I’m a healthcare professional. Have some compassion. Now, should arsonists and thieves be prosecuted? Yes. Housed doesn’t equate to goodness and homelessness doesn’t equate to arsonist. The city should provide better shelter assistance, drug rehab past a 3 day detox and educational opportunities from trades to other jobs.

This was the case of the last place I lived. The cops were there daily. And my car was targeted more than once. I had a ladder and hose stolen. And to top it off I had to deal with a witch of a Karen on the other side of me. At one point I had enough and just took my chances to move out and risk buying a much better place. Police did not do much about what was going on at the park or on my property. Also, police hands were tied as City Mayor did not want the homeless bothered. Owners in my area have put up tall chain link fences topped with barbed wire. They just cut through it. Property owners can't stop this when the authorities won't enforce the laws. I have found people on my property and I have to show proof I belong there. I'm then told they will write a report but it's up to me to remove them. 🙄🤷

I was homeless many moons ago and didn’t start one fire. Now I’m a healthcare professional. Have some compassion. Now, should arsonists and thieves be prosecuted? Yes. Housed doesn’t equate to goodness and homelessness doesn’t equate to arsonist. The city should provide better shelter assistance, drug rehab past a 3 day detox and educational opportunities from trades to other jobs.
