Brilliant content. A gus balances views perfectly and adds common sense and reason. Naomi gives first class feedback and Mark steers the show. Serious pat on the back. Fantastic show.

I’ve got a Crf300l coming up two years in December love it, fmf exhaust and a few B&B bits and wound up the tension on the rear shock spring it’s good enough for me at 63 years old!

disagree about the little baby gs, and a few others, I'm sitting here wondering how many of these bike you've actually ridden and tested. A lot of bikes (particularly small ADV) are easy to bag on paper, but almost always seem to surprise people when they ride'em. Given my 310 a decent run over the last 2 years or so, and surprise, no dented rims, blown out shocks or any of the other common gripes people seem to have with the bike or small adv bikes in general. Horses for courses.

I got a blown out shock but I do little jumps and a couple hundred kg coming down will do that, happens to all bikes.

@@ike8236 yep exactly, depends on who's riding it, how and where. No bike is built to suit all.

Ha yep...love the podcast and it's "talking shit with ya mates" over a few drinks style...just pissed I couldn't be there in person to give 'em a rev for how some bikes were "nah, not an adventure bike, forget it", but others were "yeah, just change the gearing"...or the suspension...or this or that. Here's me on my soap box after a Ned or two - experienced riders, ironically, kinda suck at giving bike buyers advice for beginners, because it's too long since they were a beginner 😂

Had to turn the low end [80Hz] down by about -10 decibels, Mark, on my mixer, to get a cleaner signal thru my studio monitor speakers. Your audio output, on this podcast, I would say is slightly bass heavy, which gives a nice warm tone tho' does make it also sound slightly muffled, a good compromise might be to turn your lower end down by around -5db. Great podcast! Keep on, keeping on!

Hello Mark, Naomi, Angus and Grumpy...this has been a very informative pod cast (The Movie) Watching and listening to your input was quite interesting. As a short bloke weighing in at 78kg some bikes are potential ; Thanks Angus on the spread sheet excellent work on that. Looking forward to the next one. Can highly recommend the Honda CB500X, although buffering with the wind is an issue, and you really need a plus one tooth sprocket up front to lower the revs at highway speeds. also is a very forgiving bike for us older riders.

The Suzuki V Strom 250 as has 205mm ground clearance just over 8" and a 6 speed with 25-26 hp. Friend of mine in the Philippines was given one by Suzuki to use for an adventure vlog on UA-cam one week.

I have the 2023 Honda CRF 300L Rally, and it is the perfect old man adventure bike for me. I have taken it through some pretty gnarly terrain too. Glad to see it scored well.

I think they discontinued the DR650 in Australia due to it not having ABS, same with the DRZ400SM and a few other bikes. It's a bit of a shame really but you can still buy low kilometer DR650's etc second hand if you really want one. The choice of adventure motorcycles is so broad now you can't really go wrong as long as you know what you want to do. Cheers fellas!

    • @lachlancannard
      @lachlancannard 7 місяців тому

@@roads_au Would have to meet Euro standards and have ABS. If they can't be arsed bringing it back for Europe, no chance of them doing it for us.

Service intervals would've been an interest spec too , just to see if there is much difference. Then again it's tough to know what is important to a beginner,
since it was a while ago for me and all i remember is that price was a big issue. Cheers 4 sharing men.

Crf300 struggles at highway speeds particularly if you want to overtake. Australia is a big place so if you want to cover any long distances it can be a challenge.

Hi Mark , Angus , Grumpy and Na.
I like Mark have a DR650 and is set up for adventure.
I also have the crf300l which is a great bike with a few mods. I think that Mark would thoroughly enjoy it on the tighter trails and sand.

The Big Rock Moto review of the klx230s (with switchable ABS, EFI, 6 speed box) was very positive.
He particularly liked the suspension, saying that it was carefully redesigned rather that just reducing the travel to lower the seat height.

Hi all, 2 words....Ellwood Motorcycles. They predominantly use the DRZ400 and have recently gone with a few CRF300s as well. They go literally everywhere on standard bikes. Check out their UA-cam channel, almost as good as yours.👍

So its all settled! You're all gonna get going on a new Honda CRF300L build.😂 Good idea. Keep the cost down to 5k in parts. Get that exhaust and battery and do the suspension front and rear. There is a Giveaway after? Nice idea!😂

the main issue with the top 5 choices is poor dual carrrage/highway safety and comfort. Yes you lower the weight by essentially opting for a dualsport single and they indeed have a place. But for some doing distance ADVenture a twin cylinder and a few extra kilos is actually more planted. I have my restomoded XL185 with a chinese e start 220cc engine swap as my first bike but I am seeing the new CF Moto 450MT as my first new bike candiate...

I know this is late to the game, but I'm a short, experienced rider, and I want a DR-Z(ed)400. The seat height is a major problem for me. However, I just found out that the Corbin seat lowers the seat height by 3" (75mm).

890 non R version has a lower seat than the 390 does. And has more ground clearance than the 390.. It's to bad that the 390 doesn't have another inch of clearance .

Yamaha XT250??? A lot of guys and gals start out on the XT and some ride them for years because they are just that basic and reliable. It is also a great bike for short riders as it has a very low seat height. Not sure if its available in AUS selling for around $5300 in the U.S. Great videos guys keep them coming.
