The MV is full of metaphors that describe how it feels like to live with a mental illness. Joohoney lives in a world that is all black and white. There are no colors, no happiness in his life. He runs around the field but is surrounded by smoke that blocks his vision. He is trying to find an escape but he can't see a way to get out of the state he's in. But even though he feels exhausted he still keeps trying. He's not giving up. The children at the end represent hope for a better future. He still has hope that everything will eventually be okay again

The video was recorded in one take, which means that there are no editing cuts that is very cool because it doesn't interrupt the artist in his performance, due to the fact that it is in black and white, dark clothes and the artist's expressions really make you conveys the feelings that this person has, the video is really like the best way the artist / person was able to express themselves

Hello, I am here again after a process of almost 1 year, and I am doing very well. Like everything in this life, I still have bad days, but I overcame my depression and anxiety attacks, my health (diabetes and hypothyroidism) is in perfect condition (physical and mental), and I will never stop thanking my Johooney for writing a song that comforted me in my worst days and now also in my best days.
I wish with all my heart you receive so much love and strenght as you give us, Joohoney. I don't understand the world as it work, why aren't you more recognized and appreciated by everyone, but I know how precious you are to me and other Monbebes that are or have been in dark moments in our life. This song is a reminder of how certain negative/traumatic moments in our lives can stay with us for a long time. Joohoney shows that not only in his lyrics, but with his body language in the video. I can't stop crying. All the memories are coming back. How most monbebe, at the end of last year, realized that he was suffering, having a hard time, how we all missed him when he went on hiatus, the letters he wrote on fancafe to keep us updated about his health and how much he missed us, the nights I spent crying and praying for Honey to recover as soon as possible....
At that time we all suffered for some reason. I wish Honey never had to go through that hardship but I'm happy that he went on hiatus, I'm happy he put his health before anything else because that's all that matters, if mx are healthy mbb are happy.

this ‘smoky’ song looks like his battle for defeating himself at that time. it’s like battling with yourself, holding everything alone, bearing the pain, making your self dull with the pain and feelings. crying out for someone’s help, in urge of blocking all the ‘noise’ (comments), wanting anyone to grab your hand and make sure you’re safe with them.
remember years ago when Jooheon went to hypnosis and turns out he was a tiger at a circus? just like his life now, being chained with the ‘idol’ image of perfection which is burdensome i bet until he become dull, tired, hurt, even felt that he needs help.
but then, he said that at that time, when he was a tiger, there were children looking him, being fascinated with his performance. the part when some children singing the bridge (“ohh” part) and reff part (“smoky i’m trying to start again, smoky i’ll take all the pain” part), it reminds me a lot about this story. it’s like he trying to find his future by remembering that there are ‘children’ looking at him, fascinated, waiting for his other performance.
and i hope, monbebes will be that ‘children’, who are waiting for his performance, giving him strength to perform, and grabbing his hand, helping, be with him, while walking together out from the smoky place, being each others reason to hold on and smile.

One of lee jooheon’s many talents that I LOVE so much is that his way of presenting his emotions while singing/rapping. The way he writes his lyrics, you could feel his whole heart. He is so amazing like he can use different ways of singing/rapping which depends on how he wants the listeners to preceive the meaning of the song, the way he wrote it. Like here in Smoky, you could feel the pain even as an international fan who has maybe 5% of korean understanding. He’s a real artist and I love him for that.

This world doesn’t deserve the essence and goodness that is Joohoney. He is too good for this world. He is so freaking underrated and yet he is really one of the best artists I have heard in a long time. And he’s only 26 he has so much passion and charisma and talent, it’s insane. And he never ceases to amaze me. The way he goes from spitting fire in Ambition to this. He’s got such a wide range of what he can do. He’s got so much power and he is amazing. I can’t understand what he’s saying, but I can feel the pain from the amount of passIon he puts in his voice. There’s just so much rawness and I love it. I love him. And this is such a masterpiece. Then again, i expected nothing less because he’s a genius and he slays his craft so well. I am so proud of him. This is true art.

Jooheon/Joohoney is not just an artist. Globally, he is one of the best storytellers. The intricate and interactive art of using his words coupled with his emotions and expressions reveal the storyline of the song. The elements of the MV plus the musicality is astounding.
The melancholy in his voice, he starts to question his very existence, the yearning for someone to find him as he feels trapped in the middle of nowhere, everything becomes cloudy. Engulfed in darkness, he tries his hardest to free himself of whatever the pain he is feeling. His expression shows exhaustion and the feeling of defeat but then, you can feel the strength as he tried to battle through it.
SMOKY - this is a healing song. And I hope that this song reaches those who needed to hear it to help them in their healing too.

i still can't get over the fact that this was done in one take. it's not just the wide range of movement but the wide range of emotion too. any other artist would need to take a breath to transition properly, but not jooheon. you could see his emotions changing for real, this wasn't all acting, it was so raw and genuine. he's so raw and genuine and amazing.

I cried I'm not even exaggerating. I felt it. I felt it so hard and it pierced through my heart. This song slaps. To someone who also struggled with anxiety and depression, this means a lot. We cannot fully express how we feel to the world because we are afraid to be judged so it's hard to open up. But with this song, I feel like expressing myself even if I don't fully understand the lyrics. Monsta X really changed my life, their songs are gems. I really love this one very much, thank you Jooheon.
