It’s widely regarded as the #1 rivalry in all of American sports. Their have been many documentaries about it. The one the person above is referring to is really good.
It is on UA-cam the title is Michigan vs. Ohio State -The Rivalry this particular post has been view 738k times and was posted ten years ago by ousmane bary. The rivalries in college football are closest to what you have in England with the premier league. @@DNReacts Probably depends a bit on who you ask (because there are some huge regional rivalries) but generally I think most college football fans would say it is the biggest. Some other rivalries that would be towards the top of the overall list are Army-Navy, Auburn-Alabama (there's a fascinating story around the Auburn-Alabama rivalry involving an overzealous Alabama fan poisoning the historic and beloved oak trees on the Auburn campus) and USC-Notre Dame.

Agree with this. They had to play their final 3 games of the season with their 3rd string QB for that season who was only a sophomore and who had barely taken any live game snaps in college. They also lost to a very very average Virginia Tech team early in the year at home. The way they got better as the season went along, to the point where they could do what they did with a 3rd string QB by the end of the year, was incredible.

11:18 "I Don't know if there's a big rivalry between Michigan and Ohio"...
Mate, this is THE rivalry, perhaps the most fierce in all of North American Sports. We're talking El Classico, India-Pakistan, Manchester Derby, and Argentina-Brazil levels here. They are two historical powerhouses of college football, they meet annually on the final week of the season and "The Game" has often had implications for the overall national championship. Many fans of both teams have said that they wouldn't mind losing every other game of the season, as long as they can beat the other side in The Game. As an Ohio native, we had our decade-run of dominance in the 2010's and the past two matches have been absolute heartbreakers, but I promise you we will right the ship in Ann Arbor this fall.
Also, I want to say that I've been watching your channel for a while now and you two are really showing yourselves to be true college football aficionados. You're always aware of the downs and yards, the impact of defensive plays, paying attention to the clock, and understand situational football. It's been a pleasure watching you guys come to learn and appreciate the sport. Cheers from Ohio!

Michigan and Ohio have a rivalry going back to a "war" the two states fought over a strip of land about 1200 square kilometers. Both cities wanted a port on the Great Lakes, and they started shooting (in the air) over it. Eventually, it was solved when Congress gave Michigan both statehood and the rest of the Upper Peninsula (the bit above the mitten).
Nowadays, that "war" has translated into a college football rivalry.

5:05 - The guy you saw was Michael Wroblewski (no idea how to pronounce) of Michigan. Funnily enough, the Gronkowski you're thinking of, Rob Gronkowski, TE for the Patriots and later the Buccaneers had already been in the NFL for a few years at this point, but he did have 4 brothers; 3 of whom played in the NFL (the fourth played professional baseball but only up to the minor leagues). However, the whole lot of them were out of college at this point.
6:21 - Ohio State-Michigan is one of the most fiercest rivalries in all of American sports (let alone college football). The people from the respective states and the alumni and fans of the schools downright hate each other. There is bound to be a lot of feistiness whenever these 2 play.

A year late but i was at this game my sophomore year at Ohio state. The noise after we won was so loud it equaled that to an earthquake. Fans stormed the field too and lol but me and my friends saw a guy do a line of coke off the 50 yard line after the game. The rivalry between these teams is so strong. Hi Damo and Nick, so glad you got to see this game it was one of the classics of the world's best rivalry. The Michigan Ohio State game has been voted as the number one rivalry in all sports years ago. So there are always more aggression and tussling in the game. Actually that is what it is known as "The Game" you might want to check out the 10 year warranty from the 1970s between the teams. But almost all the games are great. Of course as a Michigan fan I still say Barret was short of making the first and the last two games were of perfection. Go Blue! Love all the reviews guys and can't wait for you both to see live games this fall you will love American football forever.

Ohio State and Michigan have the greatest rivalry in American sports. They first played in 1897, and have played each other 118 times. The rivalry was borne out of a border conflict (The "Toledo War"), and really blew up in the 60s and 70s with the "Ten Years War" between legendary coaches Woody Hayes and Bo Schembechler. I know as a Buckeye fan I'd rather go 1-11 and beat the team up north than go 11-1 and lose to them.

Born and raised (and graduated from) Buckeye - SEC fans will tell you Alabama/Auburn ("the Iron Bowl") is the biggest rivalry in college football. And it's an outstanding rivalry that also almost always has massive implications for an SEC title or national championship game appearance.
Ohio State and Michigan's rivalry game is called THE Game for a reason. They do NOT like each other. There's respect, but to your point about the game being chippy, it's almost always like this. The two states had a brief border war/skirmish back in the 1800s. The joke is that Ohio (who actually "won") had lost the war because they were forced to take Toledo as part of the state 🤣 Anyway, these are two of the biggest brands and most successful teams in the history of college football. They were ranked #2 and #3 in the country during this game and this game determined who would move on to the Big10 championship game to face the winner of the other division of the league (Ohio State and Michigan are in the same division). Ohio State went on to beat Wisconsin in the Big10 title game and made the 4-team playoff but go beat in the semifinal.
Even if you guys don't do a reaction video to it because it's long, sometime before football season this fall, you should watch the documentary about this rivalry. It's outstanding and it really details the history, the reason it's so important and the best part, a section called the "10 year war" with legendary coaches Woody Hayes (Ohio State) and Bo Schembechler (Michigan) when they faced off against each other for about a decade. Back then the "Big10" conferences was sarcastically called the "Big 2, little 8" which means Ohio State and Michigan won everything each year. Their only real competition in their league most years were each other. It's fascinating and watching a ton of your reactions to football, I think something you guys would find incredibly interesting just to have as knowledge of the sport, even if it's too long to react to :)
    Here's the documentary: ua-cam.com/video/irqM7BHhlKc/v-deo.html
Cheers from just a little east of Columbus, Ohio

Red Sox-Yankees, Celtics-Lakers, Duke-North Carolina, Ohio State-Michigan. The biggest rivalries in their respective sports. This is an annual game towards the end of the season because these schools are competing for recruits and hate each other's guts.
The names to know here that actually succeeded in the NFL are - off the top of my head anyway - Ohio State RB/WR Curtis Samuel, who's now a solid playmaker mostly at receiver for the Washington Commanders, and Ohio State DE Nick Bosa, who shared a sack in this game and is now a top-flight edge rusher for the San Francisco 49ers. Jabrill Peppers - he of the big kick return - is a solid safety after some time spent by teams trying to figure out what his position is, currently for the New England Patriots.
Side note: Rob Gronkowski played tight end for Arizona and was drafted in 2010 by the New England Patriots (and will make a delightful reaction). I don't believe any of his brothers would have been in this game.

I am not sure whether you have heard this before, but the word used by the referee describes how a video review is validated/gauged. If the referee states that the 'ruling on the field "stands"', it means that there was not enough video evidence to overturn the call made on the field. If the referee states that the 'ruling on the field is "confirmed"', it means that the video evidence was deemed definitive and that the correct call was absolutely made on the field. Of course, if the call is overturned, it means that the video evidence was definitive in reversing an incorrect ruling on the field. You will note that in this game, the referee stated that the 'ruling on the field "stands"'

In the early 1800's Ohio and Michigan were on the verge of war over the border. Had something to do with an erroneous map that a trapper warned the Ohio legislature about. He said Lake Erie extends farther South than the map showed. So the 8 mile strip of land immediately South of what is now the Ohio-Michigan border was contested. Militias formed on both sides but no shots were fired... and Ohio ended up with the land. This is the closest two states ever came to war over a border.

Depending on how you measure the Columbus metro area, it has between 1.7-2.1 million people, and they have no NBA, MLB, or NFL teams. It is the only game in town. During the week before the game, many Ohioans don't use the letter "M" in messages, replacing it with an "X".
