The mere fact that this kind of emotion can come from a vocalist is mind-numbing. Clare has a gift.

She did know she had recorded it. She told them to record her first take, because often the first takes are the best. Her words. The guys in the studio were stunned speechless. She had no idea how well she had done, because they said nothing to her afterwards. She left the studio, thinking the track would probably never do anything - 'would never see the light of day' she said. How wrong she was.

I read that after her improvised singing the band walked out the recording studio she thought they were disappointed with her performance and that was the end of it. She didn,t realised they were struck dumb in amazement

Most Pink Floyd albums are of the type _'concept album'_ where you're taken along for a journey from first to the last track and you'll get the best experience by listening to the full album without any interruptions.

You have it right Clare was given a set of rules to produce an experience of a person going through death to heaven but she could use no words she was recorded on her 1st try and she actually apologized for doing it but Pink Floyd loved it and used it on the original album it is without a doubt the best vocals for this cut ever.

there is something so universally wholesome and human about this song. a high point for Floyd. many bands never produce a single piece of such significance.

The fact that she did this in one take unrehearsed it’s amazing and I don’t know if you’ve heard the whole story but you should look it up it’s crazy

    1 vocalist in this one . 🤯

After this song, you have to get up and turn the record sideways to play side B.
Money - Us And Them - Any Color You Like - Brain Damage - Eclipse.
The last two tracks should not be separated.
Happy listening, and happy holidays to you and your loved ones.

the album is based on a lifetime from the baby crying out to the final journey to the great gig in the sky which the voice first expresses anguish , anger then acceptance then the peace , beauty of the great gig

I am not a _strong_ PF fan (just a regular fan), but I believe the "transmission" - I suppose you mean the talking - you mention is actually a response to one of the questions they asked more or less random people at the studio when recording, and here I quote from Wikipedia because that's more accurate: "Perhaps the most notable responses "I am not frightened of dying. Any time will do: I don't mind. Why should I be frightened of dying? There's no reason for it - you've got to go sometime" and closing words "there is no dark side in the moon, really. As a matter of fact it's all dark" came from the studios' Irish doorman, Gerry O'Driscoll".
The wailing and screaming is amazing, and chills my spine every time. It could be about all aspects of life: birth, pain, grief, sex, orgasm, death...

This song immediately follows "Time", one of Pink Floyd's most meaningful and best loved songs. As with much of their music, it's best heard in sequence, as the impact and meaning are that much greater when heard in the intended context. UA-cam reactors almost never play Time and TGGITS as a linked pair, but really should imo, as the second follows naturally from the first and together they tell a greater story. Truly each whole side of the album should be heard uninterrupted through a good pair of headphones to get the full effect.

The "director's cut" get's you two versions.
They didn't even need an audience, here's just one track...

thanks, Hap - Clare was so amazing -- I was listening to this album as a teenager - say, 1975? and by the time it occurred to me to "research" who did those amazing vocals, it was 30 years later... never saw album credit for her (but then again, wasn't looking too closely back then - probably buried in fine print) -- nevertheless - when I finally learned her name -- I felt good knowing that much -- but when I looked just a little bit further I was shocked to learn that she was WHITE! (okay, I'm "white" as white can be, myself... but thought I could somehow recognize "black" voices... and made that ignorant assumption) - all of that a bit "off-topic" - when what I really meant was to say how much I love this song, Ms. Torry's amazing vocals, and your reaction... oh, yeah -- and Merry Christmas/Happy New Year!

I bought dark side of the moon in 1974, I still have it, it's scratched.
My point is this, as my life has progressed the music and the hidden meanings inside the music lyrics have changed, I'll get a new stereo system and hear a different bell or Tone a different way, or as in the great gig in the sky means something now, due to COVID-19 taking my dad away
I'm angry, I mad as hell, I have to let go, I have to accept it.
Claire Torry expresses that perfectly In this song.

Dark Side of the Moon is an album meant to be experienced start to finish. I should add that the best way to listen to Gig in the Sky is to hear the song before it first.
Some rock groups were moving in this direction in the late 60s to early 70s where they would put out an album that could be considered a 'rock opera' or 'concept album'. Dark Side of the Moon is one of those albums. The WHO was into this concept too. Quadrophenia is an excellent example.

Good day- I am not one to push but there is a full album reaction done. I am yet to amend a few things but it is blocked on UA-cam, so I will be putting it on Patreon only. Across all tiers.
If and when the block is gone. I will drop it to UA-cam but that could take some time. Thank you Hong.
