    I just got back from Cairns, and of course I stayed at Gilligans, I had an absolute blast,
    However I did opt to stay in the 4 person room to try and get some sleep, it was overall an awesome experience
    and a great atmosphere! Would definitely recommend staying there, especially if you're traveling alone.

    Do you have the website for the greyhound ticket you bought? I'm looking into it and am having trouble finding the "hop on, hop off" ticket that you were mentioning! Great video by the way, it was very helpful :)

    hi- looking at Bungalow Bay Koala Village- it says the wildlife tour is $29 adult (says it includes- croc, python, and lizard), and an extra $18 for koala hold. But doesn't say anything about the wombat hold- is that even extra money or is that included in the entry fee? and how much was the ferry ride?

    • @NomadicUnicorn
      @NomadicUnicorn  8 років тому

      Hey! The wombat hold wasn't any extra but I'm not sure if its something they normally do, or if we were just really lucky. I can't honestly remember how much the ferry was but here is a link with the current prices, hope it helps :) www.sealinkqld.com.au/timetables/

    Absolutely brilliant video, thank you!
    Im going to sydney at the start of july to play rugby for two weeks. After that I have 6 weeks to travel before my flight back to the uk from syndey. I was worried 6 weeks wouldnt be enough to travel the whole cairns to sydney and was looking to just go as far as Brisbane, but your video has made me feel like going as far as cairns could be an option.
    Did you prebook all your hostels before you left? or were you able to book them a few days in advance while you were travelling or even just rock up and book in on the day?

    • @NomadicUnicorn
      @NomadicUnicorn  7 років тому

      Hi Damien. I'm so sorry I haven't replied to your comment before now, as I know you'll be playing Rugby in Oz already! Hope it goes well :)
      We prebooked as we travelled, some a week or so in advance and some a few days. You will 90% of the time be able to find something on the day (just beware of peak times like Christmas and New Year- these need to be booked well in advance). You'll just find the choice/options you have will be a lot more limited. I like prebooking to get a bed that isn't too expensive in a hostel that isn't horrific, but thats my personal preference. Other people never pre book and prefer that, as it allows them to be more flexible in their plans. I hope you have an amazing time!!!

    Great video! Nice to get honest reviews! Not sure where to start in Cairns or Melbourne, would you recommend starting off travelling in one more so than the other? x

    • @NomadicUnicorn
      @NomadicUnicorn  8 років тому

      Ah thanks, I'm glad you liked it :) In all honesty I don't think it matters too much. Just be aware that Cairns has a wet season and you will need to watch out for jellyfish/wear a stinger suit at certain times of the year. A lot of the tourist favourites, The Great Barrier Reef, Fraser Island and The Whitsundays are nearer Cairns than Melbourne. So if you really want to do these but are worried you might run out of cash, maybe start in Cairns!? Whichever you decide, you'll have an amazing time!! :D

    • @annie9691
      @annie9691 8 років тому +1

      Oh wow did not know that! Thanks so much! Will look up when the wet season is then! Aiming for June next year :D Yeah i was thinking that they were a lot nearer Cairns for cash reasons! Thank you so much! :)

    • @NomadicUnicorn
      @NomadicUnicorn  8 років тому

      No problem I had no idea before I went either. June is dry season in Cairns and you should be fine in terms of the jellyfish. The stinger season tends to run Nov-May but can vary year on year, just check with the locals. Melbourne will be going into winter in June so temps of roughly 7-11 degrees but possibly colder. If you start in Melbourne don't forget some warmer clothes :) Oh.....and a rain jacket!!

    • @annie9691
      @annie9691 8 років тому +1

      Great :D I'm now thinking of starting in Cairns :) Thank you!

    • @NomadicUnicorn
      @NomadicUnicorn  8 років тому

      You re very welcome :) The only other thing I'll mention in case it affects your decision, is that hostel prices will change depending on season too. So they will be cheaper in the winter or wet season than during the summer/dry as there is less demand. Just another thing to think about! Whichever way you do it, you will have the BEST time :D

    Hey just researching for a trip, did you pre book these or just rock up and ask for a room? Cheers

    • @NomadicUnicorn
      @NomadicUnicorn  7 років тому +1

      Hey Adam. Most of these we pre booked, some well in advance, some just a couple of days. You will usually find somewhere if you just rock up but always pre book during peak times, especially around Christmas and New Year. We found things get fully booked super quick. You also have less choice if you just show up, but it does allow you a little more flexibility in your plans :)

  • @serenah6672
    @serenah6672 7 років тому +1

    did you book any of these in advance or just the day of? when did you travel?? Thanks!

    • @NomadicUnicorn
      @NomadicUnicorn  7 років тому

      I think most in advance. You can book on the day (except for peak times...Christmas, New Year etc) but you will get better value for money booking in advance usually. Its just a personal preference although I know lots of people who prefer the flexibility of just turning up on the day

    Hi, thanks for your review, I'm going in Australia soon, and the first time in Hostels, have you been bite by bed bugs ? I saw a lot of comments about that on tripadvisor or others.
    Keep on ! =)

    • @NomadicUnicorn
      @NomadicUnicorn  8 років тому

      Hi! Glad you found it helpful :) I didn't have any problems with bed bugs whilst in Australia thankfully. They can end up in any hostel but the best thing to do is check the most recent reviews. If other travellers have been bitten, they will almost always post it on Tripadvisor or Hostelworld. Have an amazing time :)
