      I'm a quin's fan and while it hurts, I think I'd rather see the ref give the advantage to the attacking team and only bring it back if it's clearly a forward pass. That's not how it works. Yes, Quins should have had their checked, but none of the officials decided it was needed. It's not "clear" and "obvious" that the pass was forward, looked flat. Tempest decision was correct IMO if you go by the terminology of the pass being "clear" and "obvious". If you want to see a forward pass, look at the try Quins scored before half time, that pass from Green to Murley looked worse than Hogg to Schickerling 🤷‍♂

      @dominicspicer9390 2 роки тому +4

      @@ynotnilknarf39 It's not though is it? If it was, Tempest wouldn't have spent 2 minutes looking at whether it was forward or not. The touch judge was in line and thought it was fine in real time. The TMO is relying on angles which aren't in line. The ref also thought it was fine in real time. So, with those facts in place, how does that make the pass "clear" and "obvious"? Plus, the wider angle showed it was flat/back. Further investigation went into the try post-match, the line/direction of the ball went back, though some angles show the ball coming out the hands forward, the angle with the best perspective, the wider angle, shows the ball coming out of the hands flat.

We need more continuity in Refereeing decisions. • @paulcole
    @paulcole 2 роки тому +1

    Firstly as a quins fan I’m not even salty about the forward pass, advantage should go with attacking side and the angles he had weren’t good enough.
    What I am extremely salty about is it’s EVERY week that ref’s let the opposition stand a yard off side and say nothing, if that forward pass was on quins side it’s getting called all day - even the RFU allow everyone else but Marcus back a week early clearly costing us against Saracens who were allowed everybody back including itoje who was out with a concussion in the same period…. So yeah much salt right now, not getting a fair crack although you can’t start like that every week and expect to get anything from games.

Simply look at the distance between Hogg and the 40m line when the ball leaves its hands and the distance between Schickerling and said line when he catches the ball! And Hogg was just being tackled by Smith so he was almost at a stop, so his speed moving forward (and therefore the speed of the ball) cannot explain such a forward movement by the ball.

    • @martynslinn6607
      @martynslinn6607 2 роки тому

      Beyond stupid, there was nothing wrong with the decision of back or flat as dictated by the flight of the ball, forward was the ball traveling forward from the passing player, blame your pundits for this one, the hand direction only became relavant following endless video scrutiny, any referee outside the top two levels has to rely on the flight of the ball, this rule does refereeing at any other level a huge disservice

    • @willfisher6712
      @willfisher6712 2 роки тому +3

      you can't rely on the flight of the ball for two reasons: 1) players are running relative to the pitch so a pass that is backwards from their perspective (running) can also be moving forward relative to the pitch. An example: a player runs at 10mph and passes the ball woth backwards velocity component of 5mph. the ball is still travelling in the direction the player is running at 5mph but they threw it backwards. 2) the ball spins which means that it doesn't travel in a straight line, passes can be flat out of the hands and end up forward at the end of the flight. 1) is more important than 2). you have to use the balls motion out of the hands relative to the player to accout for these two factors.
