The problem is that it makes sense, chaos is incorporeal, and as a byproduct of reality it obeys to the collective subconscious imagination of most sapient species, so while a daemon can spit molten copper and swallow bullets, a ritual made to contain him in the body of a superhuman created with very specific rituals and preparations also makes sense, daemons are bound to the dreams of mortals and this is both their strength and weakness, kill by the sword, die by the sword, make a good story/ritual and daemons will quake in fear
I personally find it absolutely hilarious that a society that Lorgar wanted would come about naturally, but he will personally never get to enjoy it, just sit from the sidelines as a literal demon and try to cope with his malding in the warp as he ended up selling his soul to space satan. When that day comes, I imagine there'd still be a risk of summoning run of the mill Chaos daemons as well, partially due to the Grim Darkness but also because I'd love if it started happening both ways. A Chaos sorcerer starts feeling himself a bit too much and skimps on preperation only to have the Sanguinor pop out of his ritual circle, ready to bring Wrestle-mania to the Ruinous Powers once again.
I always loved this chapter since the Deathwatch novels featuring an Exorcist. He was put on the team to ensure the team leader never got wacky. He was to ensure this with a bolter to the leader's head
The leader Karras was a psyker with a very obvious flaw. Whenever he used his powers, a wound would open on his forehead. The Inquisitor in charge of their Kill-Team was extremely suspicious of Karras
So I’m an algorithm nerd, I enjoy checking analytics, and it blows my mind that both of arch’s channels (especially TheArchcast) haven’t taken off If you look at the engagement of his channels views, likes, comments in relation to his sub count Arch is regularly outperforming channels 3-4 times his size. I’m convinced he has to be shadow banned
I think it's because Arch has been slandered so much his growth's crippled. Any time you see him referenced outside of his channels there will be several people calling him a nazi POS. Scaring away new viewers.

This is the kind of lore I love Arch for. It's dark, thorough, and presented well. Also, imagine a battle brother has 30 demons trapped inside him and then he dies. The battlefield might get very chaotic very quick.
In theory those demons still need to recover and re-manifest as while imprisoned they may have access to the corporeal I doubt they are being given more than the most basic of subsistence so as to maintain their imprisonment. If the brother dies they likely wisp away back to the immateriam VERY angry with the thought of what happened to them.

technically you can permakill daemons, it's just really fucking hard and normally requires way too much work to be practical. Currently the easiest way to do it is the emperors sword so if Guillimain ever contact the exorcists and they opted to read him in on their daemon prison he could hypothetically just go in there and stab them all, permanently killing who knows how many daemons, hundreds, maybe thousands by now. Of course this is unlikely to happen but it would be funny if they decided to work out a system with him where he just drops by every now and then to execute daemons. He sure fucking hates them enough to go through the trouble.
You can also permakill daemons by using a Soulfire- That is to say, lighting your own soul on fire and burning them away. As well as, potentially, surrounding them with nulls to cut off their support line to the warp. The daemon might ripcord out before hand because >Oh shit oh no oh shit
@@nonya1366You can also perma-kill a daemon if it's in a demon host and you strike its soul with a powerful physic strike - that brief flicker when it is in between the material and immaterial world can dissolve its core into nothing. Eisenhorn did this when he killed the Daemonhost "Phohaniti" while being enraged.
I feel like the exorcists were meant to be a chill not-mary-sue version but then after they made it gw decided to nerf the grey knights. But cannonically speaking I 100% see them being made to be the diet soda version of the grey knights.
With what is hinted at what is happening to Dorn at the end of last HH novel. It may well be a power of the line of Dorn, as Dorn may have freed himself of taint of Chaos. We know that Dorn did have pysker abilities, especially when it came to Chaos/Daemons. Just that it was not well understood ability. I suspect the secret of getting the Exorcists (if that was original name or not) to go along, even for those dumped on a daemon world. Was to simply ask them to do this, not order, explain to them the situation and what could be gained. Knowing Astartes not only would volunteered in their 2 heart beats, but by asking, not ordering them, being honest them with what was being asked and especially making it 'their choice'. Well Chaos would find little purchase in the hearts and souls of men given freewill (perhaps for first time in their lives) so to speak. I do wonder if the argument made to Grey Knights, was that they can't be everywhere. But with the Exorcists, the Grey Knights could focus on big threats while the Exorcists could be deployed anywhere and everywhere. Giving the Grey Knights help in their mission like no others could. Finally the best way to fight fire with fire, is to use 'fire fighters'. Also Arch you are not up to date, since an entire Crusade Fleet of Primaris Marines feel to Khorne and his murder curse already. Which wasn't a surprise as the Primaris were never said to be immune to Chaos only more resilient ...or at least that's what Cawl said they would be. How he tested that or if he tested it won't don't know. It would interesting if the story that the Warp was peaceful during the time of the Old Ones is not what people think. That in fact the Old Ones used prisons of flesh to trap the worst entities of the Warp in those ancient days. With the War in Heaven the Old Ones may have even freed them to use as weapons against the C'tan and the Necron. As for your daemon prison concept, it would be better to have said prison on the event Horizon of a Black Hole. Shielded from tidal forces, but also having a Deadman switch keeping it from falling in. At the same time using the time dilation from the Black Hole as part of the security system. As from the prisons perspective very little time would pass, but in reality centuries or even millennia would pass in the rest of the universe. In fact if the daemon prison would fall into the Even Horizon, it would appear to disappear to those on the outside. But from the prisons perspective time would stop and trillions of years would go by in universe before it was destroyed by the tidal forces.

We know that it was an Imperial Fist Legionairy who managed to retain consciousness after being experimented on by Fabius Bile. And it was also his gene seed that went onto to make Honsou. The bad ass Iron Warriors traitor with the Necrodermis arm! There is definitely something special about their resilience. All of the legions have their special traits, and I love finding out what the generic legions are really good at.
I forget where but there was a mention of Demons being trapped in a Necron Tesseract vault. The idea that the demon cannot exist without the warp but cannot return to warp because the Vault does not permit it. It was the most complete and utter torture a demon could endure, eternally trying to die but being unable to live.

The first Dawn of War basically implies this was the Eldars approach to Demons. They try to stop Angelos from destroying the Maledictum, which contains an imprisoned greater demon.
If you ever thought Lorgar's "crash course" method to create new Gal Vorbak was ruthless the Inquisition came to this without any outside influence. And sadly in both cases the results were useful enough to justify it. Though hopefully with less "about to cream their pants" joy in the Inquistion's case.

Than you now have a special time bomb.
I don't know about doing that "repetitive process" on the Broken Ones is such a good idea, seems to me like is just one bad day away from creating a gestalt daemonhost with the power of an entire legion of daemons at their fingertips (in short the idea of putting them orbiting a star sounds like the most sensible part of this plan.)
They either did it once, if I were to headcanon, and just send those who failed once to the Purgatum, or they do that process at the vessel proper as to minimise the risks.

This is the truedark heirs to antichaos forces within the imperium besides the blanks. I always thought the Grey Knights as too.... Nible and Bright for 40k, where the Exorcist were both Eldritch and desperate enough to rightfully fit not just the lore but for what they are fighting against.

I may put together some kind of lore compliant small group like a combat patrol or a kill squad. But I guess I have to wait a bit until the firstborn are all gone and see what primaris comes in new, if any, that will fit with them.
There is an interesting trivia regarding chapter master Enoch. Trismegistus is the name of a mythical mystic, Hermes Trismegistus, supposed founder of hermeticism. And he's sometimes identified with the biblical Enoch. Geedubs loves to do the occasional "subtle" nod to some obscure historical (or not so historical) figures, so if someone knows more than me on this then there might be some interesting parallels between the hermeticists and exorcists or plutonians. One might be the plutonians not existing on paper, since hermeticism is not its own ideology, it's practiced by members of all kinds of different mutually exclusive religions and schools of thought, just like the plutonians have to be hiding within various factions of the inquisition.
In the tinfoil hat community hermeticism is often regarded as a wolf in sheep's clothing, at least the modern interpretation of it. It has a lot of ties to those uber sketchy gnostic/messiahnic beliefs often associated with the NWO movement, as has the book of enoch. So having the name associated with a secret society within a secret society with very questionable goals and motives would make sense. Also the practice of the bounding ritual roughly mirrors the process of "gnosis" or "spiritual alchemy" in both the hermetic and enochian sense where both ascended to the dark realms beyond being confronted by various transcendental entities and eventually god himself returning to earth with devine wisdom and power. Yet again bringing the tinfoil stuff up because whatever they see as god might in reality be something far more sinister so the exorcists drawing their powers from the warp makes even more sense. It also touches on the whole "big-E is becoming the fith chaos god" theory. As above so below as they say. I might be reading into this a little too much but maybe some shizo managed to infiltrate GW back in the day who knows.
"Fight fire with fire" a phrase no one should think about in terms of 40k. But here we are, the most terrifying Space Marines chapter. But one I would not mind helping me out with how loyal they are. It might be a nightmare with them summoning daemons, but they are immune to daemonic possession. So that's some good in a sea of "Fuck no!"
The exorcist "broken ones" reminds me the "legion" demon from the bible. The whole "we are legion for we are many". So the broken ones being able to contain a legion of demons each, especially if we are talking about the 40k definition of "legion" is ALOT.
I do like that the Primaris Marines are starting to have some flaws shown with them. Unless I missed something this kinda implies that while Primaris Marines are compatible with the Exorcist's methods the first born Marines might actually be better suited for the job long term.
I think a good lore power-balancing tidbit would be to make Primaris Marines incapable of producing geneseed. Any geneseed used to create a Primaris is lost, cannot be recovered, and the Primaris cannot produce more. That would make the Firstborn essential to perpetuate and grow the ranks of Astartes while keeping Primaris Marines numerically limited.
@@joshuafischer684 The primaris are still capable of making geneseed, but Black Library authors like ADB and Guy Haley are making it pretty clear that Cawl's Primaris upgrades may result in... complications depending on how much genetic deviation has happened to a chapter's geneseed compared to the base 20 legion geneseeds that Cawl had access to (and Guilliman was _livid_ when he heard Cawl had tinkered with both the 2nd and 11th legion geneseed AND the traitor legion geneseed while perfecting the Primaris upgrades.

Unless... nah, GW wouldn't pull a stunt like that a couple editions down the road in order to introduce new NEW Space Marines because the Primaris are suddenly having issues with geneseed across the Imperium in-universe and Cawl needs to replace them. Could one not weaponize an eldar soul stone to trap demons in an inert rock? Just curious. Not like he imperium knows about the eldar's little soul traps, but you'd think someone would have tried this idea.
I wouldn't even attempt it. First, you'd have to find or summon a Demon, then you'd have to place the stone on it before it kills you or destroys the stone. Additionally, if it did work, if it were ever destroyed, the demon's soul would immediately return to the Warp and reform. Perhaps the Eldar are better at fighting Demons, but they would be risking a lot to start up a demonic jail somewhere.
This reminds me of a very nice short fanfic. An inquisitor currently in control of a space marine strike force tries to prevent a chaos cult from summoning a deamon using some cursed set of armor. e's just barely too late, the ritual is interrupted but one coltist makes off with the shield and manages to summon a daemon of khorne. Being born from a shield, the inquisitor advises not to attack but to subdue, as attacking a shield would only strenghen it. He then kinda just wrestles the deamon to the ground. Daemon is them imprisoned. The argument for lack of purge is, as mentioned in the video, it's just gonna come back and be more pissed. Throwing the containment cell into a random moon's core will delay the issue, butsomebody's gooa be dump, release it and deamon is now über-pissed. So the inqusitor tries to tame the deamon. The marines dislike the thought. Random Orks happen. Not gonna spoil how it ends, however: The deamon is a girl and the taming includes pancakes.
There was one group in one of the novels. Not sure if it was the plutonians or another one but they came up with a technique to split a daemon into pieces and then instead of possessing a person they would use pieces of the daemon to make several different daemon weapons. And then would scatter them to the astral winds. As long as a single weapon was intact the daemon it was made from wouldn’t reform and would just keep the pieces hidden away for as long as possible
Re: the Broken Ones. Sounds like those Exorcists function similar to how the old Ork "Possessed Warphead" Weirdboy (read: Ork psyker brains becoming outright roach motels for daemons dumb enough to go inside), except the Exorcists don't use their Broken Ones as weapons/fighters (because all those daemons stuck inside the Ork Weirdboy's head give him a YUGE boost in Warp-based abilities (different from Ork 'WAAAGH!! reality-warping psyker shenanigans'.)
Those are not true "Chaos Marines" as they were just driven mad. That's like calling a Chaos Marine a "Loyalist" if the Inquisition just loaded one mind altering drugs and sic them back onto thier few Chaos Marines.
Also the reason thier are no true primaris Chaos marines is because Chaos Marines HATE them. Even to the Chaos Marines, Cawl's work is sacrilege. (A lot of CSM also frowm on Fabius Bile for doing the same thing, just from the opposite side.)

Noteworthy that their ritual is pretty much how Big E locked Drach'nyen in a sword. That his sons can manage to achieve this with less powerful daemons is... to be expected.
Quite interesting to say the least, would love to hear more about your speculations for both daemon and maybe even which chapters could fall to chaos or heresy in the future
considering their affinity, it would make sense that damaging a tzeetch demon in a psychic battle would give you 'secrets' it knows, as such knowledge is their biggest strength. it would be an interesting twist to them because that would also create temptation in the entity that fought them to use that knowledge... and even if they don't it just gives that faction more power because now here's one more person with specific knowledge of chaos and more importantly belief in it.

The fact that a chapter having 5 more marines than necessary or telling an uppity inquisitor to get bent causes them to be declared excommunicate traitoris but THIS is A ok gives perfect reasoning why people don’t trust the inquisition.
I did read somewhere that a chapter of thousand sons joined the fists. Perhaps the Exorcists could be "fists successors" using the geneseed from these legionaires.

If the Grey knights were the Spartan 2, the Exorcists become Spartan 4, basically budget Grey Knights, a lot more available, a lot easier to put together, and reasonably capable to produce similar results except very FUBAR cases...
My biggest question is why don’t the grey knights send an elite force to kill, like truly destroy, the thousands of demons, inside the broken ones. As this way the demons are truly destroyed, like they keep summoning demons and then have the bound bodies, have their spirt destroyed.
I wonder what happens to a daemon if you throw it into a supermassive black hole. The gradient of the gravity field isn't so strong as to rip the physical forms of the daemons apart, and so they wouldn't be destroyed in the usual sense. As long as whatever happens inside the event horizon doesn't tear their flesh prisons apart, you could just toss the Broken Ones into Sagittarius A* and call it a day. Or I guess you could toss them into stasis cells, that could work too.
Daemons, upon "false death", are banished for a long time from my understanding. From their perspective it's not that long, but from the perspective of realspace its quite long. I don't think killing a daemon near a warp rift is pointless : the daemon won't be able to come back in time to see the end of the battle.
So they tried to make Imperial Solitaire's this can only go well, wonder when the absolute worst moment for all the demons they "banished" will reinhabit their Astartes motel and compel them to turn on other forces.
After watching this, I want to introduce the Exorcists into my Dark Heresy game. A dark, disturbing... brooding presence to be around even. Commanded by inquisitors who have the demeanor yet, still technically absolutely loyal.

I started an Exorcist army right before the White Dwarf came out was planning on making them sons of Sanguinius so threw off all my plans ordered bits from all over the world to make them my own but...details. They are on hold for the moment but still going to finish them. Even though at the time not much was known they were still bad asses and wanted that army.
Make them son’s of Sanguinius. Make it so that the Special units like death company and sanguinary Gaurd are those who have either mastered their possessions aka gal vor back meets exalted eightbound, or peoples that are struggling to control thier possessions and are try to use what power it gives them before they lose control and hopefully die in battle so as to prevent them from becoming a Damonhost.
Ya know the more i think about it, the more sense the grey knights giving the exorcists acess to restricted info and even encourageing the project makes sense. The grey knights are at most a couple chapters worth of marines and likely far fewer then a normal chapter and are beyond valuable. Having a chapter of "disposable" marines that are to them (grey knights) as guardsmen or even augmented humans are to space marines makes sense. Send the "lesser" chapter after day to day threats that even you yourself said that otherwise they grey knights would need to destroy. Then they can focus their limited resources on real threats while also making sure that "minor" threats dont spiral out of control and fuether divide their limited resources. And with the method working so well, it would shock me if there went at least a few hidden chapters that do exactly the same thing and are spread out to stomp out moderate fires that normal forces cant. And if its beyond THEIR abilitys then you call in the grey knights and delay until they get there or slow down the advance as much as posible otherwise.
I know Arch hates the idea of Cawl making better space Marines, but I wonder if it would be more palatable if you thought of it more as Cawl failing to create Custodes?

This is the kind of lore I love Arch for. It's dark, thorough, and presented well. Also, imagine a battle brother has 30 demons trapped inside him and then he dies. The battlefield might get very chaotic very quick.
In theory those demons still need to recover and re-manifest as while imprisoned they may have access to the corporeal I doubt they are being given more than the most basic of subsistence so as to maintain their imprisonment.
If the brother dies they likely wisp away back to the immateriam VERY angry with the thought of what happened to them.
Also the brothers with demons trapped within them are nowhere near the battlefield ever. Those get executed or sent to prison

technically you can permakill daemons, it's just really fucking hard and normally requires way too much work to be practical. Currently the easiest way to do it is the emperors sword so if Guillimain ever contact the exorcists and they opted to read him in on their daemon prison he could hypothetically just go in there and stab them all, permanently killing who knows how many daemons, hundreds, maybe thousands by now. Of course this is unlikely to happen but it would be funny if they decided to work out a system with him where he just drops by every now and then to execute daemons. He sure fucking hates them enough to go through the trouble.
You can also permakill daemons by using a Soulfire- That is to say, lighting your own soul on fire and burning them away.
As well as, potentially, surrounding them with nulls to cut off their support line to the warp.

Eisenhorn did this when he killed the Daemonhost "Phohaniti" while being enraged.
I feel like the exorcists were meant to be a chill not-mary-sue version but then after they made it gw decided to nerf the grey knights.
But cannonically speaking I 100% see them being made to be the diet soda version of the grey knights.
With what is hinted at what is happening to Dorn at the end of last HH novel. It may well be a power of the line of Dorn, as Dorn may have freed himself of taint of Chaos. We know that Dorn did have pysker abilities, especially when it came to Chaos/Daemons. Just that it was not well understood ability. I suspect the secret of getting the Exorcists (if that was original name or not) to go along, even for those dumped on a daemon world. Was to simply ask them to do this, not order, explain to them the situation and what could be gained. Knowing Astartes not only would volunteered in their 2 heart beats, but by asking, not ordering them, being honest them with what was being asked and especially making it 'their choice'. Well Chaos would find little purchase in the hearts and souls of men given freewill (perhaps for first time in their lives) so to speak. I do wonder if the argument made to Grey Knights, was that they can't be everywhere. But with the Exorcists, the Grey Knights could focus on big threats while the Exorcists could be deployed anywhere and everywhere. Giving the Grey Knights help in their mission like no others could. Finally the best way to fight fire with fire, is to use 'fire fighters'.
Also Arch you are not up to date, since an entire Crusade Fleet of Primaris Marines feel to Khorne and his murder curse already. Which wasn't a surprise as the Primaris were never said to be immune to Chaos only more resilient ...or at least that's what Cawl said they would be. How he tested that or if he tested it won't don't know.
It would interesting if the story that the Warp was peaceful during the time of the Old Ones is not what people think. That in fact the Old Ones used prisons of flesh to trap the worst entities of the Warp in those ancient days. With the War in Heaven the Old Ones may have even freed them to use as weapons against the C'tan and the Necron.
As for your daemon prison concept, it would be better to have said prison on the event Horizon of a Black Hole. Shielded from tidal forces, but also having a Deadman switch keeping it from falling in. At the same time using the time dilation from the Black Hole as part of the security system. As from the prisons perspective very little time would pass, but in reality centuries or even millennia would pass in the rest of the universe. In fact if the daemon prison would fall into the Even Horizon, it would appear to disappear to those on the outside. But from the prisons perspective time would stop and trillions of years would go by in universe before it was destroyed by the tidal forces.

I want to add support to your comment about Dorns legacy. We know that it was an Imperial Fist Legionairy who managed to retain consciousness after being experimented on by Fabius Bile. And it was also his gene seed that went onto to make Honsou. The bad ass Iron Warriors traitor with the Necrodermis arm!
There is definitely something special about their resilience. All of the legions have their special traits, and I love finding out what the generic legions are really good at.
I forget where but there was a mention of Demons being trapped in a Necron Tesseract vault. The idea that the demon cannot exist without the warp but cannot return to warp because the Vault does not permit it. It was the most complete and utter torture a demon could endure, eternally trying to die but being unable to live.
That'd be the alpha legion novel Sons of the Hydra.

The first Dawn of War basically implies this was the Eldars approach to Demons. They try to stop Angelos from destroying the Maledictum, which contains an imprisoned greater demon.
If you ever thought Lorgar's "crash course" method to create new Gal Vorbak was ruthless the Inquisition came to this without any outside influence. And sadly in both cases the results were useful enough to justify it. Though hopefully with less "about to cream their pants" joy in the Inquistion's case.

With Angron being forced to lead an attack and ends up walking into a trap he nearly murders his way out of as the last message Angron receives from Khorne before being sealed is. "You are pathetic." Than you now have a special time bomb.
I don't know about doing that "repetitive process" on the Broken Ones is such a good idea, seems to me like is just one bad day away from creating a gestalt daemonhost with the power of an entire legion of daemons at their fingertips (in short the idea of putting them orbiting a star sounds like the most sensible part of this plan.)
Nobody's ever accused the Inquisition of reliably coming up with foolproof ideas.
They either did it once, if I were to headcanon, and just send those who failed once to the Purgatum, or they do that process at the vessel proper as to minimise the risks.

There is an interesting trivia regarding chapter master Enoch. Trismegistus is the name of a mythical mystic, Hermes Trismegistus, supposed founder of hermeticism. And he's sometimes identified with the biblical Enoch. Geedubs loves to do the occasional "subtle" nod to some obscure historical (or not so historical) figures, so if someone knows more than me on this then there might be some interesting parallels between the hermeticists and exorcists or plutonians. One might be the plutonians not existing on paper, since hermeticism is not its own ideology, it's practiced by members of all kinds of different mutually exclusive religions and schools of thought, just like the plutonians have to be hiding within various factions of the inquisition.
In the tinfoil hat community hermeticism is often regarded as a wolf in sheep's clothing, at least the modern interpretation of it. It has a lot of ties to those uber sketchy gnostic/messiahnic beliefs often associated with the NWO movement, as has the book of enoch. So having the name associated with a secret society within a secret society with very questionable goals and motives would make sense.
Also the practice of the bounding ritual roughly mirrors the process of "gnosis" or "spiritual alchemy" in both the hermetic and enochian sense where both ascended to the dark realms beyond being confronted by various transcendental entities and eventually god himself returning to earth with devine wisdom and power.
Yet again bringing the tinfoil stuff up because whatever they see as god might in reality be something far more sinister so the exorcists drawing their powers from the warp makes even more sense. It also touches on the whole "big-E is becoming the fith chaos god" theory. As above so below as they say.
I might be reading into this a little too much but maybe some shizo managed to infiltrate GW back in the day who knows.

"Fight fire with fire" a phrase no one should think about in terms of 40k. But here we are, the most terrifying Space Marines chapter. But one I would not mind helping me out with how loyal they are. It might be a nightmare with them summoning daemons, but they are immune to daemonic possession. So that's some good in a sea of "Fuck no!"
The exorcist "broken ones" reminds me the "legion" demon from the bible. The whole "we are legion for we are many". So the broken ones being able to contain a legion of demons each, especially if we are talking about the 40k definition of "legion" is ALOT.

I do like that the Primaris Marines are starting to have some flaws shown with them. Unless I missed something this kinda implies that while Primaris Marines are compatible with the Exorcist's methods the first born Marines might actually be better suited for the job long term.

I think a good lore power-balancing tidbit would be to make Primaris Marines incapable of producing geneseed. Any geneseed used to create a Primaris is lost, cannot be recovered, and the Primaris cannot produce more. That would make the Firstborn essential to perpetuate and grow the ranks of Astartes while keeping Primaris Marines numerically limited.
@@joshuafischer684 The primaris are still capable of making geneseed, but Black Library authors like ADB and Guy Haley are making it pretty clear that Cawl's Primaris upgrades may result in... complications depending on how much genetic deviation has happened to a chapter's geneseed compared to the base 20 legion geneseeds that Cawl had access to (and Guilliman was _livid_ when he heard Cawl had tinkered with both the 2nd and 11th legion geneseed AND the traitor legion geneseed while perfecting the Primaris upgrades.

Honestly that's some potent irony that the "Exorcist" chapter is focused on keeping demons locked in a body rather than their namesake.
Could one not weaponize an eldar soul stone to trap demons in an inert rock? Just curious. Not like he imperium knows about the eldar's little soul traps, but you'd think someone would have tried this idea.
Or just bind a demon to a relic, though it requires knowing its true name.
I wouldn't even attempt it. First, you'd have to find or summon a Demon, then you'd have to place the stone on it before it kills you or destroys the stone. Additionally, if it did work, if it were ever destroyed, the demon's soul would immediately return to the Warp and reform.
Perhaps the Eldar are better at fighting Demons, but they would be risking a lot to start up a demonic jail somewhere.
Maybe the Inquisition should have a Pariah breeding program to combat Chaos

This reminds me of a very nice short fanfic.
An inquisitor currently in control of a space marine strike force tries to prevent a chaos cult from summoning a deamon using some cursed set of armor. e's just barely too late, the ritual is interrupted but one coltist makes off with the shield and manages to summon a daemon of khorne.
Being born from a shield, the inquisitor advises not to attack but to subdue, as attacking a shield would only strenghen it. He then kinda just wrestles the deamon to the ground.
Daemon is them imprisoned. The argument for lack of purge is, as mentioned in the video, it's just gonna come back and be more pissed. Throwing the containment cell into a random moon's core will delay the issue, butsomebody's gooa be dump, release it and deamon is now über-pissed.
So the inqusitor tries to tame the deamon. The marines dislike the thought. Random Orks happen.
Not gonna spoil how it ends, however: The deamon is a girl and the taming includes pancakes.
For the sake of Administratum record-keeping, I'm going to have to ask that you provide the name of this fanfic.

There was one group in one of the novels. Not sure if it was the plutonians or another one but they came up with a technique to split a daemon into pieces and then instead of possessing a person they would use pieces of the daemon to make several different daemon weapons. And then would scatter them to the astral winds. As long as a single weapon was intact the daemon it was made from wouldn’t reform and would just keep the pieces hidden away for as long as possible

Sounds like those Exorcists function similar to how the old Ork "Possessed Warphead" Weirdboy (read: Ork psyker brains becoming outright roach motels for daemons dumb enough to go inside), except the Exorcists don't use their Broken Ones as weapons/fighters (because all those daemons stuck inside the Ork Weirdboy's head give him a YUGE boost in Warp-based abilities (different from Ork 'WAAAGH!! reality-warping psyker shenanigans'.)

Quite interesting to say the least, would love to hear more about your speculations for both daemon and maybe even which chapters could fall to chaos or heresy in the future
considering their affinity, it would make sense that damaging a tzeetch demon in a psychic battle would give you 'secrets' it knows, as such knowledge is their biggest strength. it would be an interesting twist to them because that would also create temptation in the entity that fought them to use that knowledge... and even if they don't it just gives that faction more power because now here's one more person with specific knowledge of chaos and more importantly belief in it.

I did read somewhere that a chapter of thousand sons joined the fists. Perhaps the Exorcists could be "fists successors" using the geneseed from these legionaires.

Turns out the only true way to defeat chaos was to exploit GMOD spawn camping and walling them in Stgggs style.
If the Grey knights were the Spartan 2, the Exorcists become Spartan 4, basically budget Grey Knights, a lot more available, a lot easier to put together, and reasonably capable to produce similar results except very FUBAR cases...

My biggest question is why don’t the grey knights send an elite force to kill, like truly destroy, the thousands of demons, inside the broken ones. As this way the demons are truly destroyed, like they keep summoning demons and then have the bound bodies, have their spirt destroyed.

I wonder what happens to a daemon if you throw it into a supermassive black hole. The gradient of the gravity field isn't so strong as to rip the physical forms of the daemons apart, and so they wouldn't be destroyed in the usual sense. As long as whatever happens inside the event horizon doesn't tear their flesh prisons apart, you could just toss the Broken Ones into Sagittarius A* and call it a day.
Or I guess you could toss them into stasis cells, that could work too.

Daemons, upon "false death", are banished for a long time from my understanding. From their perspective it's not that long, but from the perspective of realspace its quite long.
I don't think killing a daemon near a warp rift is pointless : the daemon won't be able to come back in time to see the end of the battle.
They were better suited to being a Grey Knights successor than the abomination retcon that GW did.
So they tried to make Imperial Solitaire's this can only go well, wonder when the absolute worst moment for all the demons they "banished" will reinhabit their Astartes motel and compel them to turn on other forces.

You make a Demon into a sword that eats Demons.
I started an Exorcist army right before the White Dwarf came out was planning on making them sons of Sanguinius so threw off all my plans ordered bits from all over the world to make them my own but...details. They are on hold for the moment but still going to finish them. Even though at the time not much was known they were still bad asses and wanted that army.
Make them son’s of Sanguinius. Make it so that the Special units like death company and sanguinary Gaurd are those who have either mastered their possessions aka gal vor back meets exalted eightbound, or peoples that are struggling to control thier possessions and are try to use what power it gives them before they lose control and hopefully die in battle so as to prevent them from becoming a Damonhost.
So just like metaphorical demons, the best way to combat them is to face them.
Ya know the more i think about it, the more sense the grey knights giving the exorcists acess to restricted info and even encourageing the project makes sense.
The grey knights are at most a couple chapters worth of marines and likely far fewer then a normal chapter and are beyond valuable. Having a chapter of "disposable" marines that are to them (grey knights) as guardsmen or even augmented humans are to space marines makes sense.
Send the "lesser" chapter after day to day threats that even you yourself said that otherwise they grey knights would need to destroy. Then they can focus their limited resources on real threats while also making sure that "minor" threats dont spiral out of control and fuether divide their limited resources.
And with the method working so well, it would shock me if there went at least a few hidden chapters that do exactly the same thing and are spread out to stomp out moderate fires that normal forces cant. And if its beyond THEIR abilitys then you call in the grey knights and delay until they get there or slow down the advance as much as posible otherwise.

I know Arch hates the idea of Cawl making better space Marines, but I wonder if it would be more palatable if you thought of it more as Cawl failing to create Custodes?
I think Cawl would be better if he existed before The Gathering Storm.
