This is one of the hobbies that I never got into because I knew I’d go broke. I used to do airbrush art for some of my friend’s RCs.
Prices for RC's have really come down these days. This one is under $100 stock. Not a lot of runtime from the stock battery and setup. If you're looking for an all around good one that doesn't need much modification, you may want to look at the HBX 16889. I find the 1/16 is a the perfect size, run time is excellent and it's $77-85 USD ready to run. No clear bodies from what I've seen for you to airbrush unfortunately, but maybe you can find something.
Really nice build, that gyro had you confused but got there in the end haha. Keep it coming dude 1k subs blown away congratulations
Yeah, got it in the end. That was back when I was a new noob. Now I'm just a seasoned noob. Lol.
Thanks for watching. I like your tips regarding X6F. DumboRC radios are full of Easter eggs
@@MickoRC can you turn off the gyro
Solid setup. Thanks for putting this together.
You're welcome. thanks very much for watching. I've been meaning to make my own ramp after watching your DIY ramp video ;)
@@MickoRCcan i use that esc on my wl toys 144010 you said its for 1/10 1/8 but u use it in 1/14car so will it fit?
Thanks for the lessons. I’m new to rc, I’m starting a club for the youth in my community and your videos are very helpful.❤
How did you get it to work? I couldn't get it to for crap
You mentioned you were new to the hobby..... I thought okay I'll give this video a like THEN you bring out the blowtorch! Well, naturally I had to sub
LOL 🤣😂 ah man too funny! cheers bro! 👍
nice..thanks for sharing! i really love RC cars! stays safe and connected. new friend here. god bless!
Thanks for watching! cheers
Good luck. You'll get better handling with the gyro receiver. Good luck on that esc, I went through 3 of them catching on fire with only 2s.
Thanks for watcching. Yeah, it's the X6FG receiver which has gyro built in. ESC lasted 6 months. I expected a few days. LOL. Reached 90km/h on 2s. I stacked it on 3s.. I'm hopeless at speed runs!
BTW.. have you seen my giveaway video? In case you're interested, submit your entry for a chance to win a WLTOYS car, your choice of a 144001 124018 124019. cheers
@@MickoRC Sounds interesting, how to enter ?
Sorry Billy. The competition ended a month ago and a winner was drawn. Stay tuned for our next giveaway hopefully in the near future.
@@MickoRC ok no problem, I'll keep an eye out, thank you
You probably could have cut slots in the pad so you wouldn't have to remove the reinforcing ribs. I do have to say you removed them so cleanly it looks original, I'm genuinely impressed.
oh yeah, haha! shoulda, coulda, woulda 😄
@@MickoRC After posting that comment I saw all your speed run attempts. Not to spoil the ending, but it really doesn't matter.
So in the gyro the button on the receiver hit it 3 times it make it work. If it's going rhe wrong way hit it 2 more times. Its the same receiver as the radio link. I've had to learn all this stuff on my own in a short time. Nice job on the build.
@@MickoRC wltoys are what I learned on. I just built a 144001 and used lc racing parts on it sway bars shock springs. They are fun cars.
Thanx a lot for your vid mate. It is really helpful. Ordered all my parts : ) Take care down under
Thank you so much for watching and stopping by. All the best with your build. It will be a lot of fun! Have a nice day. 🙂
That's a awesome upgrade mate
Thanks very much. It was quite fun to do. Thanks for watching!
i just ordered this setup...i plan on just running 2s stock battery and hopefully getting 40 mph top speed using stock gearing.. thanks for sharing
Just use one 2s lipo or a 3s but that might make you crash cause 3s is too much for this car
How much it costs for U?
Been blasting mine on brushless and on the plastic spur takes it, also have a metal for back up, your giro antenna is sticking out from the side move it so facing the rear then you won’t have any problems 👍🏻
Fab - you've inspired me to do mine.
How do you get the plastic spur gear off the main shaft? I remember struggling when I got the upgrade and gave up
I got a similar setup exactly KV, 60amp esc same transmitter and receiver though at time I didn’t know rebranded flies absolutely flies crazy to attempt full throttle, on 2s Lipo 45c
Hi ID JC, Yeah definitely need a decent stretch of open road to be able to hit full throttle, even more so on 3s. Thanks for stopping by, and have a nice day!
Oh yea! Lots of road for sure.ad I get older, I would like to do these runs fpv, drivers view, and I believe I could get some mighty runs.
I really do like the Dumbo tx/rx. Look close, not every one has Gyro. And, yes, it's in the receiver, not the Transmitter, so all the Dumbo's do gyro, just get the rx!
You think 4300kv is fast... I dropped in a 3250kv I had lying around... WOW! Had to double check I didn't set the pavement on fire!
So much power from these things, I believe we can do great speed runs with the 2XXX size motors. I've got a 2968 2200kv on wishlist now to try.
a.aliexpress.com/_mKS7wX5
I figure 6s on the 2200kv will hit sweet spot rpms. Build the buggy right, think I might be breaking 100mph....
well done..and awesome setup..very nice..
Thank you! Cheers!
Cool video. Keep us inspired!
Hello Hazwan. Thank you so much for your kind words. Very much appreciated. 😀
Wow good video 🤩
Thanks for the video bro. I think im going to buy one 144001. Im a nitro guy and dont own any E (electric) words! Now i do want one of these though.
happy to see 10 k views but sad about not reaching the 1 k subs...
Maybe one day! 😊
Thanks very much for stopping by. Have a nice day
Hi, did you Have a problem with this brushless upgrade? I did everything ok, but when i put some throttle It has a lot of lag and after two seconds goes really fast. When i Give a little throttle it moves everything a little bit like Vibrating.
is that motor fit perfectly on original motor mount? and is that new servo can fit too? without any modification
Creo que mi motor dejó de funcionar. Es posible cambiar solo el motor y que todo siga funcionando correctamente?. Thanks
Thanks 👍
Where u get the programming settings
Graet video :)
Funny that your controller order messed up, my 144001 order had the same issue.
hehe. did they end up giving you an X6A instead too? 😀
Great Video!
Thanks for the visit. Have a nice day!
@@MickoRC you Too !
Hello
@Michael Vergara really nice setup , I wanted to ask can I replace just motor ? leave all the other parts with the stock one ?
Hello Yaniv Nahum, Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes, you certainly can replace only the motor, as long as the replacement is a *BRUSHED* motor, not brushless. Let me know if you have any other questions. Have a nice day!
Good work
Thank you so much 😀
...and thanks for watching, Erik! 😊😊
so did this 120 amp come with programing instructions? i do have an old hobbywing programing card from 12 years ago...i used it from my boats and planes...i wonder if it will work on this esc??? thanks...
No programming instructions were included. But you can check out my video where I program it if you want. ua-cam.com/video/Fn9piL8b3ws/v-deo.html
The manual I use in my programming video is for a hobbywing xerun 120a ESC and it worked on this blue ESC
@@MickoRC it must be a clone.. thanks
Were you able to fit the shell on ok with that esc with the fan?
yes bro. it's a pretty small ESC. Though it ended up frying after 6 months. cheers for watching! 👍😎
@@MickoRC oh 6 months?! Hmm ok thanks for the info.
Just a quick question....do you need to upgrade the transmitter, if you upgrade the motor and go for a brushless 1 ? Cheers 👍🏻✌🏻
Yes bro. Need to replace the stock receiver and hence the transmitter as well. Also the servo because the stock one has 5 wires whereas the new receiver will have a 3 wire socket
@@MickoRC ok nice 1 cheers..... what transmitter do you recommend ? 👍🏻
@@justinturner4067 I love DumboRC radios. They're relatively cheap and function very great.
@@MickoRC Ok just bought 1 😬 Thanks again, appreciate it 👍🏻✌🏻
Good video 😎, what size metal spur gear do I need pls? I’m new aswell and on my 4th build doing a 144001 brushless conversion with exactly the same motor and then screws need some heat eh....thanks for sharing an excellent build 🙏👍
Thanks very much for your kind words!
The metal spur is same as the stock size but I don't know the specifics. It's the exact same one at www.banggood.com/custlink/3GDRIqUYzJ. I hope this help!
@@MickoRC thankyou for the link I’m just waiting for a little butane blowtorch to get the screws n mount off I want to use the original as it was made for the car. It’s mad though, the bugger unscrews on my old 144001 and I’ve just bought a brand new 144001 to do a good build?🤞🏼And I’ve never seen so much lock-tight on the new one!! 🤣🙈 Eh and the diffs were greased but not enough 🤷♂️ no way? Still a job to do b4 you even turn the engine!! Great vid cheers 👍😎
@@Andym1159 If you have a good soldering iron that gets hot enough you can use that to heat up the scree to melt the loctite. I've seen others do it that way.
All the best with your build! 👍
Como se llama receptor estabilidad ? ? Gracias
Please, Where do you buy front bump? It Is very nice...
Hi Erik, The bumper was taken from a very old el cheapo RC crawler. It isn't really a good one. 😀
Vc ja utilizar bateria 3s
I already know what will be next. So far we have Wltoys 12428, moreover, we show it on our channel.
Hey my guy I was wondering if you can help me out, I keep ordering batteries that's to big, could give me the specs on the biggest size battery for these buggies, I would appreciate it 🏎️
Hi bro. I measured the battery bay L x W x H as 102 x 38 x 22mm.
hi great video I want to make mine brushless do u have a link to any motors which would go well in this??
thanks for the video 👍👍
Hi mate. Thanks alot. Links to the components are in the description except for the motor. I've used a 4300kV 3650 size brushless motor from ebay but the item isn't listed anymore. Note that the components I used are mainly for speed not for bashing. Good luck bro!
Did you need to buy the programming card also?
No, because this ESC has a program button for manual programming. Some ESCs have a program button while other don't. Cheers for watching bro!
@@MickoRC
so if i change brush to Brussels i have to get a new remote i am new on this 😅
@@anjel5267 yes.. u need to replace the radio (remote control transmitter and receiver) because the stock radio receiver is built-in the stock brushed ESC.
@@MickoRC thanks so much im going to try to make a Wltoys 12423 brushless
How fast did it go? I'd like to do this to mine eventually . My rear diff broke straight out of the box on the stock 2s :( What 3s battery and charger are you using?
@@MickoRC So that means the upgrade does little for 2S, as I got about 51 KM/hr fully stock. However, now you can do 3S without worrying about frying anything. That should get you at about 65 km/r range.
@TJMill3r I tried measuring the speed on 2s (in one of my other videos) using GPS app on a phone, but I don't think it was accurate at all. I'm still waiting for a proper gps speed reader to arrive. 2s lipo is an XF POWER 2600mAh 60C. I have a 3s ZOP power 1500mAh 30C but haven't done any testing with it yet. waiting for the speed reader to arrive! thanks for watching!
@@everythingispose-able2543 i guess it depends on the specs of the motor you upgrade to. there's many out there with higher RPMs but with less torque. I hope to receive my speed reader soon so I can test properly on 2S as well as do 3S test. thanks!
@@MickoRC I have 1500mah 120c batteries now and its insane.
where is the lipo alarm?
Don't have one. Relying on the ESC's LVC which is set at 3.4V.
Thanks for watching, and for your support.
By the way... have you seen my giveaway video? ua-cam.com/video/ZXClkcB7I6A/v-deo.html
Submit an entry for a chance to win your choice of 144001 or 124018 or 124019, in case you're interested. thanks
@@MickoRC The RTR ESC that I am using does not have such a function, so I should use the lipo alarm.
@@MickoRC I don't know English very well, so I don't know what it means even if I watch the video about the link.
can i put an 5000kv motor
Do you need a new transmitter for a new brushless motor?
Yes. Because the stock radio receiver is combined in the stock brushed ESC.
What is the gyro functionality?
Basically it self-corrects oversteer.
hi great video, its very helpful, can you tell me what battery you are using please
Hi lance young, thanks for watching mate. Battery is XF POWER 2600mAh 60C 2S LiPo. got it from banggood 6 months ago
Most importantly which front bumper is that does it fit directly or are mods required?
Also I love the lights.. links?
Hi rmalik84s3, thanks for watching. I ripped the front bumper off a cheapo 1/18 crawler. I screwed it in with longer screws into the existing screw holes that secure the original bumper. You can grab the lights from ebay, banggood, wish, aliexpress, etc. they're all pretty much the same. www.aliexpress.com/item/32972912975.html www.wish.com/product/5c26efd52e4f5b11f0a2cdab
Light shoud be purple for gyro to work 3x press button
Jaap De Waard thanks for the tip! I eventually worked it out in the end, so all good. Thanks for stopping by. Have a nice day!
why this esc looks so small . what brand it is
Just is mate. No-name brand
I want to get together Wltoys 144001 Where can I buy?
Hi mate.. Check the links in the description where to buy this car. Thanks for watching bro!
Isnt the gyro supposed to be active with throttle up?
It's active whenever the car is in any motion (e.g. by throttle, by momentum, by any force in any direction)
can you turn the gyro off and on
Hi mate. Yes by pressing the program button on the receiver. Or you can leave it on and then control the gyro sensitivity by adjusting the CH6 dial on the transmitter -- putting the dial at 0 effectively turns off the gyro.
Nice build, what is the gyro for exactly? (I'm a noob too)
Thanks Hippo-Drones. The gyro in RC cars is a sensor which adjusts the steering to provide you with a more stable and controlled driving experience by managing steering (counter-steering) output automatically to keep the car's tires aligned in the direction you choose. thanks for watching!
@@MickoRC ooo that sounds pretty gucci
can i use the servo for any receiver?
Yes as long as the receiver supports 3-pin plug for the channel, which all common receivers do
@@MickoRC nice, i need one for my 124019 brushless upgrade. I offered one but it was too big, so it didnt fit in there. Can you say me one thats small and fits and is a waterproof one? Would be amazing! :)
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Awsome
Thanks bro! 😄😎👍
Are you doing a 144001 build too?
the kit brushles is for 1/10??? o for 1/14??
Where did you find the front bumper?
ohh.. it came off an old cheapo rc car and has since broken off. Was too brittle and shattered.
Hey thanks for stopping by and watching! Much appreciated ☺️👍
@@MickoRC love your mods!!!
Where did you get the metal spur?
Dauntless H I got it from wltoysrc.com as they were the only one's selling it at the time, but there may be other places selling it now like banggood.com or aliexpress.com. thanks for watching! have a nice day
Is the 120a ESC overkill for this car even with the upgrade?
Yes, probably. But it was the cheapest ESC I could find. thanks for watching and have a good day
@@MickoRC OK. Thanks for sharing the video. I just got my buggy and will switch to brushless when I wear out the current setup.
NOOOOO! I have a few of these for projects, and they do work. As long as you don't actually treat them as they're rated. Got some as burnt & melted parts too.. Just keep an eye on them. But I've run 3650 3200kv and 4300kv on this buggy with 3s, but I don't run 3s back to back, and let them cool off between runs. I will NOT. Be running them on my HSR 144001. Then again.... I'm getting a 3674 2260kv to run on 1:1 mod 1 gears!
I recommend to get them as far under $20 as you can, they are"disposable" the same way tires are, worn out, burnt out, reaplaced. No hard feelings...
Hi @@adamdavis5961 I will keep an eye on it. I would like to replace it though. Can you recommend a better cheap ESC? Thanks for the advice. It is much appreciated. Have a good day.
That's my big battle right now too. I'm looking at the HOBBYWING WP- Max8-RTR 150A right now. "Cheep" for a speedrun car. Ha Ha. And boat or 2 way flight esc's for my basher. I will be able to use the left, or v battery" side in my HSR, as I will be using saddlebag batteries on it. But with limited space for a clean build for regular use, I am going to try out some bargin 2 way esc's from Ali Express. I had gotten a while back for just that reason. Cheep, small, and should be fairly tough.
It's been awhile since I got em, and I kinda forgot I did! I. Got a 30a, amd a 40a "ZMA Bidirectional esc". It was an experiment that didn't really take off. Ha Ha.. I crack myself up...
I just did a search, "bidirectional ESC Flight" sorted by price, and run down till I got what I guessed would work. EBay, Banggood, Ali Express... I thought it would be nice to have multi cell support, small durable, and hopefully reliable esc's. I figured flight has to be pretty darn tough. And the 30a does 2-4, and the 40a does 2-6s. Forward, reverse, and who knows about brakes... Deal with it.. Ya know... I'm looking in to some vids on UA-cam about it now. Seems promising. Yea, just did an Ali search, doesn't sort well.. Have to pick through em... Forgot what I paid, really cheep comparatively. $8 for the 40a and $6 for the 30a. Just found em.

I can't verify yet, haven't tried em, so.. Searching vids... But I think it's a promising route.
How did you solder the esc to the motor
Hi there Ste Keel, I soldered 4mm banana plug ends to the ESC wires. Then just plugs straight to wires from the motor.
I hope this helps. Have a nice day.
So I have an old stock 144001 that seems to have died. Radio is not transmitting and the motor doesn't turn. Would love to do this but it doesn't seem worth. Might as well just buy a different model.
You can get a brushless kit with a motor servo and new controller for 60
We call them set screws
This the eBay kit?
no, parts were putchased separately mostly from banggood. Motor was from ebay
What size Hex did you use?
hi James. For the pinion grub screw I used a 1/16th inch allen key. Thanks for dropping by. Don't forget to sub! 👍
How'd the esc hold up?
Held up for 6 months. Got a HW ezrun max 10 in it now
