- What's this Musikhjälpen music event that UA-cam has recommended to us? So many artists from Sweden that we love! Decided to check out First Aid Kit for the first time, singing a Roxette song that is still stuck in our heads since the passing of Marie recently. Such a beautiful tribute!

Yes, they are performing inside the booth. They also did their song "Emmylou" which is a tribute song to Emmylou Harris. I recommend checking out when they sung that TO Emmylou Harris at the Polar Prize Award 2015. And sitting next to Emmylou you can catch a glimpse of our King Carl XVI Gustaf 😉

Yes, it would be great to see them react to both when they sang Emmylou and America at the polar prize awards. I really think it is incredible how Paul Simon and Emmylou Harris react to them.
You should react to First Aid Kit's tribute to Emmylou Harris it's amazing. Johanna and Klara are known for their harmonies, I'm in love with Klara's steely voice. Klara is the one with green dress and Johanna is in the black dress. Johanna's voice was more suitable for this particular song

I love First Aid Kit! Their voices are so great together. If you want to watch more of them, I recommend that you watch their performances on the Polar Prize Gala (the Polar Prize is like the Nobel Prize of music, it´s in Sweden, it´s donated money from Stikkan Anderson, manager of ABBA who passed away in 1997, he co-wrote many of their songs). Emmylou Harris was awarded the prize in 2015, and First Aid Kit sung their song Emmylou as a tribute for her. They also sung her song "Red Dirt Girl". They also sung "Dancing Barefoot" for Patti Smith in 2011, and "America" for Paul Simon in 2012.

Yes! The Polar Prize renditions is a must! They got Patti Smith and Emmylou Harris in tears and a standing ovation from Paul Simon. Not many artist can say they’ve done that!
The girl in green, Klara, usually is the lead in the duo, so it's nice to see Johanna get to lead in this performance. And yes, like you said, Klara and Johanna are the sisters, and they make First Aid Kit.
I really want you to react to their song "Fireworks". I think it's the best one they have written. ❤️
Having been to the David Letterman show 2 times already, David who is a fan of them and in one of his last shows he himself chose the artists and obviously brought them. When Rolling Stone magazine listed 100 of the most important songs of the 2010, they were one of 5 Swedish artists that participated. Number 1 on that list was our dear Robyn by the way, with the song "Dancing on my own".
At 3:00 saying they must be cold, First aid Kit and Maja Francis is actualy inside the Glas Inclosure together with the hostes of the show. The reason you dont see the glas window is that the light crew is just outstanding and create magic with no reflections from the inside of the inclosure.
My town and I was there during this performance! *Yeeeaay* RIP Marie Fredriksson, singer of Roxette.

I really recommend First Aid Kit's very first video they uploaded to UA-cam, a cover of Fleet Foxes - Tiger Mountain Peasant Song. It was uploaded 11 years ago when the sisters were 14(Klara) and 16(Johanna) years old, and it went viral. Three months later First Aid Kit performed the song with Fleet Foxes at a music festival in the Netherlands. They had released an EP in Sweden before and been on Swedish TV but this earned them an international record deal signing.
You really need to explore more of Maja Francis, she is just an amazing singer and getting more and more fame every year. Her tender and vulnerable voice can make anyone cry. Try to listen to "How are we doing". Makes me cry everytime, it's so fitting for what's happening in the world right now and asking this very important question. How are we really doing?...
We'll definitely give "How are we doing" a listen and see if it brings a tear to our eyes too.

There was a program on TV last evening that's called "Swedish Heroes" where ordinary people are honoured because they have done something good for others. Chris is singing "Heroes" by David Bowie and his interpretation was incredible, absolutely amazing! 😭Please react to that!👍❤
Musikhjälpen (The music help) is a tv/radio charity event that is broadcast for 144 hours. Three tv/radio hosts are locked inside a glass booth. People can walk past or stay to have a look at the live performance and dance to the music that they play out in big speakers.
Celebrities can auction out to spend a day with them, to get one on one song lessons, to get signed items from a band, practice with your favourite sports team..the list goes on and on. You don't have to be rich to bid on any of the auctions. Bid with what you can afford and you are in the game. Everybody has a shot to win.
And viewers and radio listeners can wish for songs by donating money (same with the auctions, give what you can afford).
All the money that is collected goes to the charity theme that is that year. It is to help the Red Cross, Unicef..to help the people in need out in the world.
Different themes:
- 2011 Girls have the rights to go to school
(raised: over 18 million SEK)
- 2017 Kids are not for sale
(raised: over 74 million SEK)
- 2019 Sex is not a weapon
(raised: over 50 million SEK)
Musikhjälpen has been broadcasted since 2008 and back then when it was new they "only" raised 3 - 5 million SEK.

Outside the glass booth it's cold, but every guest that comes in to the booth says it's really warm inside.
So no one inside the glass booth is freezing :)

They sing it during the Polar Music Prize, which is a Swedish international music award, which in 2012 was awarded to Paul Simon who, with tears in his eyes, gave the sisters a standing ovation (the reason the rest of the crowd is not standing, is because the king of Sweden sits there next to him. Nobody is allowed to rise until the king does, but of course, Paul Simon could not help it). These sisters are known for having an amazing harmony. You can find the clip here:

Notice how Johanna turns towards Maja, so Maja can see her mouth, to make it easier for Maja to sing tight with sisters. Klara doesn't need that obviously, the sisters have been singing together their entire lives.

They didn't feel the cold, as this was their tribute to Marie.
Musikhjälpen is a charity event. They are in different cities each year and they are in big glass booth where they are broadcasting it on the radio 24/7. And on TV. The three hosts sleep in there aswell. They have a bedroom in the back. The theme of the charity is different each year and they raise millions. People help all over Sweden. All the music that they play on the radio is something that the public has payed for by wishing songs and it goes to the charity aswell.
That's a great explanation. This year the theme was "Sex is not a weapon" and the money they raised will go to help the people who suffer from sexual abuse in for example wars. During the week they raised about 50 and a half million Swedish crowns which is about 5,5 million dollars.

This song was originally just a regular song who was rejected by the music industry in Europe with limited attention before the duo became famous at a radio station in the US from a fan who asked them to play that band Roxette's music then the movie Pretty Woman requested a song for the film they recommended their old song than the movie gave them all the international attention they didn't get before that happened
It was a huge hit in Sweden, long before Pretty Woman. It was an American exchange student who brought the album "Look Sharp" (with songs like The Look, Listen to Your Heart and Dangerous) to the US and gave it to a radio station in Minneapolis. Roxette was practically unknown in the US then, but the radio station started to play "The Look" and it got requested over and over again. It reached Billboard top 100 before they even promoted it in the US, and later got the nr 1 spot. The success with Listen to Your Heart came later, when they Roxette didn´t have the time to write a new song for Pretty Woman, the film company first rejected it, but later accepted it.

And it wasn´t just in the US, "The Look" topped the charts in 25 other countries in 1989. Sure, Listen to Your Heart being in the movie made them even more famous, about a year later. But it´s wrong to say that they were only famous in Sweden before "Pretty Woman".

Please react to another first aid kit performance!! They're so so good and extremely underrated. Their harmonies are amazing, the did a cover of Paul Simon (simon and garfunkel) "America" on letterman and polar music prize, their song emmylou is also one of my personal favorites!
You say that Klara and Johanna don't look alike, which is true. But watch their video "Tender Offerings" on UA-cam and you see why - it's quite obvious that Klara got her mum's genes and Johanna got her dad's genes!
