In this video i'll show you easy way to make a skewed chisel. I need a pair of them to work with cheeks (planemaking) so lets go with it! If you have any questions or sugestions just write a comment.
Honest to God I've never been more inspired by any woodworker/tool maker in my entire journey...and I watch and read *a lot*. Thank you so much Stavros for taking the time to videotape these wonderful works of art. I for one truly appreciate every minute of it!
I have ALWAYS wanted to cold blue my chisels. Forum posters told me I would “ruin my steel” more than they’re already being ruined by rust. You have liberated me.
Nicely done, I am impressed that you managed to not burn the edge of those when you ground them on the bench grinder. Also a great idea to use some old chisels to make your skew chisels.
I thought the same thing at first, but then it occurred to that this guy's skills are so superior go mine that who am I to question his work. He does fantastic and highly accurate crafting that I'll never be able to duplicate.
Beautiful. Watching your videos have changed my mind on hollow grinding. I think my Prosharp is on the chopping block and a grinding wheel on the wishlist.
I love the comment... “I wish you were my neighbour”. That thought crossed my mind to as well. Shame I don’t live in Europe. Another excellent video thank you so much.👴🏻🇦🇺
Beautiful chisels, love the handle shape Most of your vids don’t show enough of the sharpening of chisels and plane irons No need now, that was awesome, stopping to show the burr coming off...awesome Maybe show (I know it’s simple) the blunt chisel sharpening, I know it’s a Bill Carter technique, be nice to see that encouraged. Can’t wait to see you use them.
Thank you! I don't want to boring people with my sharpening process in every video. I show it few times in older videos. I use blunt chisel very often, but i don't want to make video about it, Bill did it and it is perfect to understand for everybody :) Regards!
Excellent work once again. When I see that there are two thumbs down markers, I wonder why? I can only suppose that there are sad and inadequate people who get some kind of satisfaction from doing this. These are almost certainly the sort of people who can't master using a knife and fork.
I would have never considered feeler Guage for that. I have nerve damage and can't feel small things like a bur with my fingers. Always used my lip. Might try this
Lovely. The slightly off white cream color of the boxwood is beautiful. I like that you made a reflected pair. Please just be careful wearing your ring by the lathe--degloving isn't too nice.
Dude! That was awesome! If you ever decide to immigrate to the US of A, come to the Glorious Buckeye State. We could do some serious damage together! It would be epic as the youngsters say!

Good afternoon, Stavros! Great job! Subscribed to your channel! I wanted to ask you. Could you make a short video about sharpening the plane's blade. A detailed description of all operations. You have very sharp blades! I want to learn. With respect and gratitude, Vitaly.
Hey, thanks for sharing ! I like your videos. Can you tell the brand of your double sided diamond stone ? And what is the sharpening medium you are using before the stop (the blue sheet on a piece of wood) ? Is it Sanding paper ? Because I had issue when using Sanding paper to flatten chisel back : I find it round the edge, and thus I can’t get a flat back at the edge.... Thanks!

The nice thing about Mr. Gakos is that he walks the walk and does not bother us with pretentious, spiritual twaddle.
Thanks Scott! It is a pleasure for me ;) Regards!

Thanks Troy! Bench grinder can burn the edge really quickly so whole the process needs a lot of cooling and no rush. Regards :)
A shop tour and showing of all your past projects would be great. In your own style of course.
I couldnt do that to old chisels .... new one's not a problem :D. Nice handles and a great end result as always.
I thought the same thing at first, but then it occurred to that this guy's skills are so superior go mine that who am I to question his work. He does fantastic and highly accurate crafting that I'll never be able to duplicate.
Thanks Andrew! These chisels wasn't used for years, until now :) Regards!
Thanks for showing how you plan to use them at the end! Very interesting
Stunning. You make so much with so few tools. Truly a complement to your skill and craftsmanship. I need to practice more.
Thank you Tim :)
Just beautiful! All your work is outstanding! Looking forward to how you use them!
Thanks Andrew! I'll show it soon :)

beautiful work Stavros!
Thanks Rob!
Classy handles, love it!
Thanks!
Lovely. The slightly off white cream color of the boxwood is beautiful. I like that you made a reflected pair. Please just be careful wearing your ring by the lathe--degloving isn't too nice.
BTW--as someone that usually does more metal work than wood work, the burr removal was very satisfying
I'm careful :) Thanks a lot Nicholas!

Awesome! God bless you bud!
Very good job, sir. Well done.
Thanks you!
@@StavrosGakos You are welcome. Keep it up.
Hmm, how about a wide chisel with both right & left bevels? It would look similar to a marking knife.
It wouldn't be usefull in tight corners. Regards!
So beau-ti-ful!
Thank you!
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
very nice chisel, thanks for this video. 🐞

Nice.
The advent of the skewed chisel was a sharpening job gone horribly wrong
Why you don't want to extend your idea?
Just the right thing for getting into tight spots.
Nice job, but what in the world would you ever need a one inch skew chisel for?
Thanks David! Just for paring cheeks in my planemaking projects ;)
Excellent
Bardzo zacne :) Pozdrawiam.
Dzięik!
Another great project. Looking forward to seeing them in action in a future video. Did you put your stamp on them someplace?
Thanks Jeff! This time without the stamp. Regards :)

I looked everywhere to see if any of your planes are for sale. Are they?
Usually i don't maka planes for sale. I don't have a time for it.
Genial!!
Thanks for this. Question, not criticizing, but why blue them when you got them shiny? I like shiny but the blueing looked great!
You're welcome! I want to keep them away from rust and give some older look :)
Why did you decide to blacken them? just for looks?
Hey, it keeps the rust away, older look is the bonus. Regards!
What is the purpose of applying Presto Mag - Liquid Gun Blue ?
