I enjoyed the extra commentary on climbing techniques and tools. This video was awesome it’s obvious how much effort you put in by the quality of these videos.
I just ordered the suspenders for my MB saddle to make it even more easier on my body. I’m only 30 but as a strongman athlete and first responder in conjunction with climber I am always trying to mitigate the future pains I may come across as best as possible. Love your work dude.
I'm not a tree cutter, but I have to say I really enjoy these videos. August, you come across as a really knowledgeable guy who is very willing to share. I could never do what you guys do, but I appreciate the art, skill and understanding of physics you have. Thank you for your channel as it provides hours of enjoyment.
I am 70 now, I never thought about not being able to do all the things I did in my youth. Time/age catches up with a person. To make things worse I allowed myself to get fat. I have kept a piece of rope next to my computer, since you were showing knots at your house. I am sure Adam and the rest of the crew appreciate your limb placement.
We all get old. I'm 62, have had a hernia operation due picking up big rounds. Cut wood a bit smaller these day's. Everyone get a sore back, it's the rule. My saw cuts a bit faster though. Made to do this. Appreciate you taking the time and effort to video your work. How's your flying going ...make sure you fly every week ..keep up your currentcy.
You guys are amazing! Love how you two work as a team! So glad you have the auxiliary rope tied in. August there is no need to be ashamed your body has been through a lot. Don’t forget you had Covid and survived! You do what you need to do to make it comfortable for you to do the work you love to do. Stay safe and warm!
I have really enjoyed the way you do these videos and the content. I love the humor. It's like talking with friends and joking around but with serious content. I've been felling trees and cutting firewood since 1975. When I was 77YOM two years ago, I started climbing using information and inspiration from your videos. It was a little scary at first, but I used all the proper equipment, safety techniques, and had my wife be the safety person. I love the Husky battery powered electric saw and have used it since they first came out. Wish I could get the bar and chain you use for it but understand they are not available now for us customer type people. It's probably best that I don't have it. It would need different sharpening equipment. I love your videos and all your team. They are all so enjoyable to watch. THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO!
I've gotten so used to your electrics that a gas saw sound is now the exception! Constantly amazed at what you and your crew accomplish. Appreciate the time and effort given to us UA-camrs. BTW, my lower back should be as good as yours.
This has to be one of My favorites August! Much love from the boys at Mr.D's Tree's & Landscaping! ["Myrtle,Beach-S.C"] Climbed my big pine the other day! All thanks to following you and boys words of wisdom. My 3 year old little girl wants to be just like her daddy! She loves your videos! 💙🤙🏼💪🏽
man I have learned a lot of techniques that has helped me out in a tree . I'm from Mississippi and we mainly cut long leaf pines here . keep on keeping on
I love the way you process what's in front of you and that you make it simple to understand for those out there who are just getting into the trade! Coming on 12years myself and the thing i love the most is that im still learning pretty much everyday from fellow climbers from around the world! As always Awsome footage and a great time watching you August!!! Ps: j aked santa for a monkey beaver saddle 2.0 for christmast this year!🤞🏻fingers cross🤞🏻
Hello August, I want to compliment you and Damion for your excellent videos. I watch a lot of UA-cam videos because I like them better than TV shows. You do a great job. I also like your Shield of Faith. It is good to have a reminder of the Shield with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Much needed in today's world.
Thank you for the SRT rope tail to canopy anchor tip!! That is a great one. I hope Yellow Hat stays safe - seems to want to be where the work is happening, which is maybe a nice idea - until it isn't.
Enjoyed the video. Your perspective on climbing and cutting is very interesting, informative & entertaining. I know exactly what you mean when it comes to the Sanctuary of climbing and cutting. Any problems, concerns, troubles, etc are parked off to the side and the concentration on the climb takes over. Fly fishing takes me away also.
"I guess I'll just start cutting little parts of the tree, that's why I am here" Thank you for the wonderful content as always August! ! To see your go-get-em, cool attitude is always inspiring for us all.
One of your great quotes I hear in my head when dealing with anxiety or nervousness in life, If I remember correctly, I hear you say, "I just do what's in front of me" I appreciate all your philosophy and self talk to us when you merge it into your work, I know others do too
I haven't even gotten 2 seconds into this video yet The thumbnail was awesome. Really grabs the eye. I saw "August Hunicke" and clicked it - but probably the flames made me click faster.
You need a Pilatus PC-6 Porter. (lol) Since it's a work horse - great for short runways for landing in B.L.M. lands out west. Thanks for the video. Take care - hope the crew, family and you are doing well. PS retired firefighter - 3 bad disks but worked though them. (31 year career) 15+ back injections - never bad enough for surgery. I know the pain.
Interesting to hear you find it relaxing to do that hard work, I guess you don't get there until after the first decade. Your work flow is very efficient.
I'm very impressed and I'm sure you got the bolt cutters in the truck it just in case I carry my bolt cutters wherever I go and I make sure my backup climber knows exactly where they're at.!! You know the steel core flip line yeah you said it best bring your bolt cutters if you want to rescue me so I do and it's not the little set..
Hi August, thanks for checking on how UA-cam is doing. I can't speak for the other 9,100 viewers so far, but I am doing OK. Got outside and ran my saw for a couple of hours this morning, cleaning up some of the black locust we cut down last week.
The enjoyment that I receive watching your videos is very stress relieving for me. I'm glad that your medicine flows back for my benefit. It was coincidental that you related your manipulation of the branches to judo. In my mind, it was more of a style known as Kung Fir. As we grow older, we definitely need to redefine our physical limitations for the sake of of longevity. Interesting how you related the uncooperative chainsaw to purchasing a new plane. Still considering the Cirrus?
@@AugustHunicke Thank you for your effort in camera angles , more work than the job at hand. Being an IA/AP Mech. For Yeats and seeing your respect of safety and good backup habits, I think a Cirrus would be the only logical choice of Aircraft to suit your safety requirements. Good luck, be safe in all you enjoy.
I should have kept watching about a minute more you just said it you don't have to cut the terminal 1 first but you can I understand thank you so much I'm saving money up now to order the monkey Beaver speedline kit I can't wait as I said many times the saddle is amazing I've bought two of them so far best saddle I've ever wore
Make it easier on the old body if you want to keep using it ! Done some pretty hard manual labor over the years and now I finally think it's okay to lift stuff in separate pieces 😅
I made an adjustable bridge for my MB saddle and do you ever have a problem with the tail of it getting in the way of you spurring up or down the tree? It’s not terrible just wanted to see if anyone had a better way to manage the tail. I daisy chain it to shorten it up but that’s all I got so far. Anyways thanks for the tips and tricks August!
Howdy August, I have a Farm Boss that starts(not starts) like the 066? towards the end of the video. I did the same thing you did....got a 500i that starts on the second pull. That top pop was sweet August! No shake either! Heck yeah! I tore the majority of my left pectoral muscles "riding the bull" on a Gum tree years ago. Smh
It would be really cool to see more ground man footage - wraps taken, rope running, limb/top size - maybe a chest camera showing the hands. Thanks as always for a great channel. Got the Beranek book - he seems to be on the same page when it comes to tying to limbs. No problemo!
Ya on Beranek. My mentor. As far as Ground camera goes. Whenever I’m on the ground that’s when Ground camera happens. For example, the speed line ground footage in this vid was because I was down there. The other guys don’t seem to do much ground cam work, even when I give them one.
@@AugustHunicke You might be the best videographer, and also best ground man - plus your back gets a break. Nice you had Damien to tag out with - great group of guys. Wishing you the best!

A question about the steel core lifeline. If you were to slip (say your spikes failed to grab) the hope is the steel core would bind up enough to prevent a free fall. But with the slack in the steel core (looks like over a foot between your belly and the tree) would it grab on a straight tree with loose bark like a fir? Have any experiments been done to see how far one would fall before it binds up? Just asking and always wishing you & your team safe work.

'Nother comment/question. When hingeing a tree, is it solely for felling direction or does the species factor in for width, angle etc?
Yes many many factors.
