+Kyle Krishnappa Some PRS guitars are pretty affordable, their standard is 500 bucks, and the Dave Navarro is somewhere around 550-650 and I've heard good things... Of course that's still 500+ bucks.
+Garrett Fergusson I hope it happens one day, but PRS SE has been discontinuing a lot of their SE sig models. I've heard rumors they're not going to add anymore signature models for whatever reason.
Thanks for your lesson Mark. I'd never fully understood the importance of play some notes in a different position on the keyboard, I was always reluctant and convinced to play all the notes with the minimal movement of the left hand. Now I've understood the importance between a note played with a slide or played in the same as you said "register". I'm now a step closer to you now, Achille! :P -La Salsa.
***** Still a killer lesson my man. I love the insight into your creative process. I just saw a lot of misinformation in comments. Theory and top notch riff writing aren't tied to each other, case in point.
@Deth Rituals a register is a set of notes in a part of the fretboard eg all the notes between frets 5 and 6 on all the strings. Mark moves from one group of frets to another whole group of frets, playing the same notes but in a different position.
Does anyone have a link to a lesson or tablature for the priestess solo with the sliding? Everything I’m finding is weird staccato picking and it loses fluidity
+Danny “Sarbs” Sarbiewski I read an interview with Misha where he stated that for Drop C (what they use when it's not a 7 or 8 string), the strings are D'Addario EXL117 (11-56).
I don't know why he keeps saying register. For anyone who is confused he's talking about octaves. He can play the solo in one octave but he moves part of it up an octave to give it more of an interesting sound
Ian Freas register refers to neck position and string choices. if i play a B at the 3rd string 4th fret, and i slide or tap into a lick that then ends on the B on the 5th string 14th fret, you haven't changed octaves for that B note, just position and location, ie, B is now on a "lower register string." the B note didn't change octaves, just position and location.
I think he is refering to the position in the neck of the notes rather than the octaves the notes are. That is why he prefers playing the exact same notes horizontally in the neck instead of going vertically like one would do when playing a scale.
the only time i'm aware of register being used as a "term" is when you are transposing. thats what i was taught, he's not changing octaves, he's moving notes to different string sets. it clearly states at :38, "playing the same notes"
No. That is not what i mean. Wat i mean is that its like speaking gibberish. A choice of words which don't make any sense. Whether spoken fast or slow, still don't make any sense.
Mark is a really good teacher. I feel like I can follow what he's saying, unlike a lot of other guitarists
+Peripheralfist that's cause he is talking about simple stuff too...
I wish PRS would make an SE version of Mark's signature model.

+Danny Loss PRS SE that is.

haha, you called it
Yeh that would be cool hahaha

Saw these guys live in Chicago 2 years ago around this time, Pretty cool band
great jacket
+Inverted314 Yep makes me want one as well
I hate to argue semantics but playing the same pitches in a different position doesn't equal a change in register.
+axeofcreation Sorry! Admittedly I'm not a big theory guy and I often put my foot in my mouth regarding that kind of thing.
***** Still a killer lesson my man. I love the insight into your creative process. I just saw a lot of misinformation in comments. Theory and top notch riff writing aren't tied to each other, case in point.
+axeofcreation yeah I think he means positions when he says registers.
+Mark Holcomb marks hiding in the comments section...always watching...
that is one amazing guitar!!
good god his guitar is beautiful

No, it's not.
That would mean he's changing position (which creates the sense of movement) not register, which is pitch.
+axeofcreation Dude..... You are here? 0.0 You are already amazing, why come here? Lol
Felix Paul Always be learning! Mark is a killer guitarist. I love listening to players and how they approach guitar. Thanks!
Sleight* of hand. Great video!

+Danny “Sarbs” Sarbiewski I read an interview with Misha where he stated that for Drop C (what they use when it's not a 7 or 8 string), the strings are D'Addario EXL117 (11-56).

+milesov That's not what register means. Register is related to pitch, ie higher/lower octave. It's not a guitar term in any sense. Ian Freas

1:08, "i chose to switch up a register, not an octave.,i'll play the same note for note lick."
I wish they would stop gating people's voices in Guitar World.
You guys really need to get a new singer. The guy you have no blows so hard.
shut up and watch the video.
+Rory McCallum for real!
I like the tone but I'm not impressed with the lick
***** I'm glad you are. Happy picking
What the hell was that?? The first lick!!
There's no tune to it.
No tune to it? What do you mean?
No. That is not what i mean. Wat i mean is that its like speaking gibberish. A choice of words which don't make any sense. Whether spoken fast or slow, still don't make any sense.
+BeeElectric are trying to relate to music theory? Lol.. Or do you just not hear the "tune"
+Joey Dennis tune has nothing to do with atonal😂😂.
