@@jdm1066Among Mexicans, they're regarded as gods to this day because of the Oedipal Section of The End. When The Doors played in Mexico City in 1970, they were struck by the reaction to this. When the Oedipal Section approached, all the men in the room shushed each other so insistantly that they sounded like a room full of snakes. When Morrison said "Father? Yes, son?", all the men yelled "I WANT TO KEEEEEL YOU!!!!" The first time that happened, Jim jumped back a step. "Mother?" "I JUAN TO FAHHHHHCK YOU!!!!" When I went to my pal Katrina's birthday party in Feb 05, the place was full of her & her husband's friends & family, & several friends from the South Side Punk Scene. Almost all were Mexican. They had karaoke, so my pals said I should sing something. Normally, I'd've been too terrified (this being in my Dude Past Life, testosterone brain damage, etc.), but I was nicely toasted & among friends, so I sang Back Door Man, in my Navy Pea Coat & everything. It took me 20 minutes to get back to my table, cos all the hot Mexican kittens grabbed my coat as I went by to say how great that was. Everyone there knew The Doors well. My Punk Rock pal was stunned by the reaction that got, so I explained it. He said, "1970? All these years later, you sing that & they went nuts?" I was kinda surprised, too, actually.
The Doors are one of my favorites, thank you so much for reacting! I think there are only like two vocal reactions on UA-cam lol. Jim Morrison is one of my favorite singers. And apparently he never had any singing lessons! Frank Sinatra was said to be one of his main vocal influences. I love how his voice had such a warm tone, but he could just absolutely scream out of nowhere haha
at 4:58 in some versions there's a "stronger than dirt" spoken lyric. Jim got the inspiration for the final few notes from an Ajax soap commercial and inserted the Ajax slogan
Jim Morrison was a damn good singer. Great style, warm tone. He could easily switch from sweet crooning voice to a raspy rock delivery. A total natural.
Ray was definitely a talented keyboardist. Playing the main keyboard with his right hand and playing bass keyboard with his left hand, and never missed a beat.
I saw this as it first aired on The Smothers Brothers Show in ‘68. “Touch Me” was quite a departure for The Doors compared to their other songs; it was a lot more pop/commercial in its sound and style than other songs from the band. And, because of its shorter length, it received heavy rotation on AM radio, which was still pop music centered in those days, but which also tended to only play songs of three minutes or under. I think a part of Morrison liked being a “crooner” vocally; when The Doors were recording their first album in ‘66 at Sunset Sound in LA, Jim was pleased to find that he would be singing into a Telefunken U47 mic, and knowing that Frank Sinatra always used a U47, it made him happy, as he was a fan of Sinatra. With this song, he was able to sing the “I’m gonna love ya” sections in a crooning style, and the contrast between this and the more rock vocal style he sang on the other sections worked well for the song. The music was pre-recorded for this show, (as was common in those days for TV, though the band may have also been playing live here, but very softly, just to support the recorded backing track)...but Jim’s vocals were all live, as can obviously be seen and heard when he makes a mistake and misses the vocal cue in the middle, not singing the four “C’mon’s”...and when he realizes there’s only silence where he should be singing, he comes in with a hurried and strong “Touch me babe” on the downbeat. I don’t think Jim Morrison was the best rock lead vocalist ever, his range was limited, and there were times he was more than just a little pitchy... BUT... BUT...he absolutely had his own style happening, his own unique vibe, and it absolutely worked for what The Doors did. While rock vocals would eventually become generic, and some bands could have swapped their lead singer with another band’s lead singer without much difference, there’s no possible way that could have ever happened with Morrison and The Doors, because no one else could have ever even come close to being “Jim”. 🙏

Thanks for reacting to this song! "Touch Me" is one of my singing goals and that live performance in particular inspires me a lot. Great to see your comments through the song.
Actually he was much more of a drinker (an alcoholic actually). Did LSD, reefer early on but went way more to alcohol by this time. However in this TV appearance pretty sure he's totally sober (hence the excellent performance). Don't get your info from the faulty Stone film - read. There are plenty of good books about him out there.
Who wasn't in the 60's? I think for Jim relax meant to completely passed out, done and gone lol. Meanwhile, he was a "natural" chaotic, dark and poetic performer on stage. The last thing he wanted was to be "relax' on stage. lol So, I don't think he used drugs to feel "relax".
Yeah, unfortunately he was known as a garbage head. But I'd bet, alcohol was his drug of choice - same with Janis ... and Grace Slick (who made it out of the 60's, 70's, and 80's alive. She's still alive, clean, and sober - never took the smack though).
It's a Robby KRIEGER's song (this includes music and lyrics, this wasn't Jim for this one notably). He was the doors's guitarist and he wrote many songs for the band, who are generally became hits. But the doors was four members and personnalities anyway.
Thanks for this! What's most impressive is that the vocals only are live. In those days, the music was all sync'd to the original recording but the vocalist (Jim in this case) is totally live. This from a guy with absolutely no vocal training, just love of great lyrics (these written by Robbie) sung with feeling and sincerity, and a huge Sinatra and Elvis fan (whose influences you of course can hear - as you so rightly stated). My all time favorite band!
Jim is clearly high as hell here but he can pull this type of performance magnificently. Very few people can pull this off. Jim was truly one of a kind.
I started listening to The Doors/Jim Morrison in high school and soon became a little obsessed. I don't listen to them so much these days, but the love remains and apparently all the facts, that my 15 yr old self committed to memory, still float up like it did when i watched this video. Thanks for this reaction.
I've been loving Jim Morrison's baritone since 1966, when I was 17. I'd love to hear Beth take a deeper dive into his dynamics - perhaps with "Love Me Two Times" or "When The Music's Over".

When a producer saw him for the first time, he said ; This kid could sing the phone book and be a star.
We all know she's very talented but can we all appreciate how gorgeous she is?
Simp
There hasn't been a voice like his since. His brand of goose bumps can not be re-created.
Beth's uploads = the greatest part of your morning.
she is lovely
Good for you to discover and appreciate the Best Authentic Poet and Musician of The Doors Jim Morrison! I am a fan of "The Doors " and Jim's Poetry 💜
The Doors were never one of my favorite bands, but massive respect for what they did. Totally different, no bass and that voice. Morrison was twenty something, but that voice of his was timeless, like it had been around for centuries. And let's not dismiss Manzarek, Krieger and Densmore. Really it was the whole package that made the Doors so impactful.
The lizard king could do anything, been around since the world began........
Please more doors❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
2:39 whooo boy... had to take a moment there. 🥰😂
He had such a natural singing voice

Can you do a video of Break on Through. I love the raspiness of Jim Morrison's voice on that song. Its something that many other singer like Kurt Cobain later imitated. Jim made it look super easy.
100% Irish anceztry
you probably dont care at all but does any of you know a tool to log back into an Instagram account..?
I somehow forgot my account password. I love any tips you can give me
@Edward Cason Instablaster :)
@Westley Travis Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now.
Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Thanks for reacting to this song! "Touch Me" is one of my singing goals and that live performance in particular inspires me a lot. Great to see your comments through the song.
She said, “he’s so relaxed” lol you would be too if you had that many drugs in your system... 😬
fr homeboy was a walking pharmacy
Blayne, I agree with your comment 100%.
Yeah, unfortunately he was known as a garbage head. But I'd bet, alcohol was his drug of choice - same with Janis ... and Grace Slick (who made it out of the 60's, 70's, and 80's alive. She's still alive, clean, and sober - never took the smack though).
Jim Morrison is The Lizard King! Member of the 27 club and imagine what we missed with him being gone so early!
It's a Robby KRIEGER's song (this includes music and lyrics, this wasn't Jim for this one notably). He was the doors's guitarist and he wrote many songs for the band, who are generally became hits. But the doors was four members and personnalities anyway.
A much underrated musician. Also a fan of Densmore, on drums. All great, but Morrison and Manzarek got most of the attention.
You're very pretty. Elvis and Sinatra were his two favorite singers. Fact.
This is the song I can't help but sing along to anytime I hear it, I love it so much!
"again he is soooo relax"
me : he was probably drunk and stoned out of his mind lol
I've enjoyed that video! Your reaction combined with your music knowledge made me re-enjoy a well known song. Keep up the good work!!!
Ha, I just now realize that Jack Black did some version of "Touch me" in School of Rock.
There was an amazing amount of talent (and electricity) on that stage -- so long ago. I remember it well.
Sheesh he was a gorgeous man! No wonder my mother went apeshit each rime she'd see him,lol
Jim is clearly high as hell here but he can pull this type of performance magnificently. Very few people can pull this off. Jim was truly one of a kind.
I cant unsee him as Will Ferrell since Will did a skit as Jim
Go look up Craigslist by Weird Al.
I started listening to The Doors/Jim Morrison in high school and soon became a little obsessed. I don't listen to them so much these days, but the love remains and apparently all the facts, that my 15 yr old self committed to memory, still float up like it did when i watched this video. Thanks for this reaction.
Beth, what happened to your kimonos or kimonoish outfits??
The guy was a one off , he had everything physically and mentally 👌
“He’s so relaxed”
I’d be relaxed too if I had a liter of Jack, 5 different pills and enough barbiturates to take out a horse in my veins.
The word that comes to mind when I hear his voice is "dreamy".
Pls do ''About A Girl'' - Puddle Of Mud
Lmao no, please don’t
I've been loving Jim Morrison's baritone since 1966, when I was 17. I'd love to hear Beth take a deeper dive into his dynamics - perhaps with "Love Me Two Times" or "When The Music's Over".
