It's like a gentle hand stroking my neck and back, whispering to my ear : Can you feel It, can you smell It ? Can you hear It? It's here with you and inside you.
Bro wtf I accidentally stumbled across this video and it made me feel like I was rlly free and home again...a home I haven't seen yet. I wish I could play some outlawed tunes on outlawed pipes right beside yee
Beautiful. I have read many comments asking this question, but I've not seen an exact answer. We know it is a Colin Goldie whistle, but can you give us the exact spec of the whistle used in this video (soft, medium, hard, etc). Each goldie is very different, so if people wanted a similar playing and sounding whistle from Colin, they would need to know this information. It should be also etched into the inside of the whistle near the bottom if I remember correctly also. Thanks!
That was lovely to listen to. I don't know anything about flutes or whistles but, having got Irish citizenship recently, I've become drawn to the Irish music. The type I like is like the introduction to the film Titanic. Is your instrument the type used for that music? And is it reasonably easy to learn at 60?
Nice. So beautiful. This is a different melody from the sung versions I've heard of this tune. (Not complaining, just curious.) I didn't know about this version prior to this recording of it by you. Thanks so much for recording/posting it. Very lovely. Gle alainn....
Sláinte chugat, Chris. What's the name of this beautiful air? Or is it of your own invention? Listening to it fills me with longing to return to Erin's fair isle and once again behold its wondrous landscapes and enjoy the fine company of its wonderful people. ;-)
Just got a low D 9 days ago. Struggling with the pipers grip and fingering, but big improvement in 9 days. I play high D normally. My favourite is the Killarney D. Its a big difference in posture, any advice please mucker? I got a Kerry fixed D optima 🇮🇪
I have been noddling about with low D whistles from: Becker, Kerry, and Dixon. I have been quite surprised at how very little air the low notes require. This surprises me because one is moving a sizable column of air. I'd would have thought this would require forceful blowing. In contrast the high notes, especially the B require a very strong push, even though a smaller column of air is being moved. Also, when my tongue passes over the fipple to separate note I get a sharp snapping sound. Is this my nascent playing or an inherent property of a low D?
@@ariellelionessofYah Yes, I too have the Optima. It is rather finicky, but I have not given it a fair try or much attention yet. It seems to have potential were I to be diligent with practice. I prefer my Becker low D to the Optima. I would seriously consider a low D from Goldfinch. Their high D is quiet sweet to play. A good while ago I bought a Burke low D, then distracted with other things put it aside. I have recently gotten it out again. It is a superior whistle. It was rather expensive and I'm now sorry to have set it aside for so long.
there's a low whistle sitting on my dresser as I type this ... I'm intimidated ... I know now that I should not use finger tips to play, yet still .... I fear ... ahma fecking dork ...
I know nothing about this instrument, I just found out about it about 90 seconds ago, so I am curious; is there a reason why he plays it with the side of his mouth instead of the front, or is that just a personal thing?
I've been playing the whistle for only about a year. Most players play it in the center of their mouth. It is just a personal preference whether it is more comfortable for them or they can hear the whistle better or some other reason. But it is not because it has to be played from the side of the mouth.
Lovely playing and tune. If you look at the angle his elbows are at it's about equal. That's a more comfortable grip than one elbow bent back more and the other further extended. I'm a busker who plays low whistle for hours and it's all about ease of playing@@sarahspector5294

I love the long whistle 😍
Beautiful playing...
Lovely stuff Chris, there’s something about bending out that C natural on low whistle and pipes that is magical - hope you’re keeping well
Masterfully done.

I can't mind the name of it Rob, it was in a very old tune book I had a long time ago.
And I didn't write this one
Wonderful playing, Chris and the Goldie sounds fantastic! It is one of Colin's soft, medium or hard blowers? They all sound different.
Lovely bro!

Why are you holding the whistle sideways?

What model Kerry whistle do you have? My low d optima takes a lung full to get the last 2 high notes!

What do the neighbours think?
They love it 👌
Similar to Chieftains l think from their album in 1966

It's in the key of 'D'
chieftain ?
Goldie whistle
A friend with whom I shared this asked why you are holding the whistle to one side. Since I’m a beginning player, I couldn’t answer her. . . ?
It’s a good question, I just felt like holding it that way on that day. Other times I hold it straight.
Thank you
