Took me a while to start "appreciating" houndstooth. I think because my favorite two history professors in university only wore herringbone tweed. The first Fall-Winter jacket I bought to teach school in was a herringbone brown. I was given a brown/tan houndstooth jacket for Christmas by a relative who told me, " You're always wearing tweed." It took a little, but it became one of my favorite jackets.
Very nice video Preston! I really like your presentation. And the bow tie you wore in this video looked totally awesome! Would you or Raphael make a video about how to shine your shoes correctly? Have a greate day!
I was so excited to able to finally use a green and gray houndstooth Brooks Brothers jacket yesterday in (usually) hot Los Angeles, while getting the last of the summer peaches at the local farmer's market. Cooling down, finally. The weather, not the peaches. Nice vid, so very informative.
Great Video Preston! I have always wondered why they call it rooster's foot in my country instead of houndstooth, now i know. Thank you! Keep up the good work
If you wear them with brown or tan shoes (both colours of all shades) it looks superb. My only black trousers are corduroy and are just striking with most non-black shoes.
Interesting that I was wearing my houndstooth suit today as this video was released. I like houndstooth with paisley, stripe, or solid ties. Great for fall.
I like Charles Tyrwhitt shirts as well and, as I perused their website, often wondered what "puppytooth" meant and now I know!! Good job Preston! PS: The tie and jacket pair well.
Some constructive criticism, the lighting needs a little work in regards to the lighting on Preston being softer. It makes the clothes look great but it makes his face blend in too much with the background.
Great video! As one of my favourite garments, could you please do a video on shooting attire or perhaps hacking jackets? I read and thoroughly enjoyed the articles on both and would love to see more. Does anybody else agree? Many thanks!
Great video bro! I have been looking for a Burgundy hounds tooth tie to go with my red velvet velour corduroyjacket, maybe with that same boutonniere. Thank you for continuing to educate me on the many thing regarding fashion.
That vest is EPIC and goes great with the sports coat. Was not a fan of the all black lower half. Just too stark and harshly contrasting. Thanks for another great vid!!
I had two sports coats that I grew out of, one hounds tooth like the one in this video at the beginning but a little darker, and one black and white puppy tooth. Now that I’ve lost weight, they’d probably fit me again. If only I hadn’t given them to the charity shop. I used to have a hounds tooth 2 piece suit much like the one shown, when I was 14 years old.
Hi, I am huge fan of your style, currently I am having some issue regarding what kind of tuxedo should I wear in a very special gala, I decided to go for velvet Tuxedo, but I am not fully updated about what kind of trouser should i wear? what colour of Tuxedo should I wear etc, Can you please make video fully on velvet tuxedo for a very special gala, please
Watching this video, I do understand the complexity of wearing a houndstooth suit. I do have a question though. If I had a full houndstooth suit with a single-breasted jacket (notched lapels), and a floral tie consisting of a yellow background, small pink flowers with mint green leaves, could I pull it off with a light pink shirt and silver floral cufflinks? Would that just be way too loud? I would wear a simple pair of black derby shoes.
Just got a brown hounds tooth jacket. Its not flannel but something in that direction, think I'm going to invest in a blue knit tie maybe. Do u think brown tweed pants look good vid this or should u not mix diffrent garnents?
Appreciate the video very much what men's wear reference books would you recommend to increase one's knowledge of men's fashion history and terminology thanks for providing the information on houndstooth patterns
I agree, look at the shoulder and the coat waist. Not due to classic sack styling , just overall far too large, although the length of the jacket seems correct. Get thee to a tailor !
It's a classic fit, old school suits and so on are more generous size wise. Having a slim fit in regards to suits, coats and so on is relatively recent in fashion. I'm guessing he likes keeping it real in regards to the more loose fit of the 30's/40's.
I agree with Patrick, jacket seems a tad long but then he's rather lanky. Better to err on the side of caution with his physique and go for a longer jacket anyway, otherwise his torso would look too short and his legs would resemble toothpicks! Achieving an overall sense of proportion is the most important thing.
they are definitely too big. raphael wears classic fit too. i hate how raphael's pants are so wide. but, most times, his jackets fit him well. this dude is drowning in the clothes he is wearing. as tho a kid wearing his dad's clothes that are a few sizes too large and too wide.
Good to see some lively discussion with a variety of perspectives on this topic! The answer that would retain a bit of my credit would be that this jacket is cut in the traditional American "sack" style, so it's a bit more full around the torso, and that it looks even a bit wider because I'm wearing it open to show off the waistcoat. The simplest and most honest answer, though, is that yes, it is frankly a bit big on me. :) Thanks for all the comments! - Preston
I first learned of Houndstooth as a pattern included in the Windows 98 operating system, as was further exposed to it in the apparell of Ricky in the television series "Trailer Park Boys".
2 things: when will you release the video on how to do alterations on pants (that you mentioned in your 'how should pants fit' video), please? why does the speaker always hover right and left in your videos? Thank you :)
I'm just curious, when we see a panned-out zoom, it seems the host carries himself unusually. I can't put my finger on it, anyone aware of any "disabilities"(if I may)?
You may. :) Said disability is mild cerebral palsy, accentuated by one of my legs being longer than the other. I'll hopefully be getting some new lifts for my shoes before too long!
@@gentlemansgazette: Ah, thanks for the clarification. Continue with the great work. Do you have any jacket/coat options for the harsh scandinavian winters? I don't like parkas.
I think Herr Schneider may need to take the reins a little bit for writing these videos. However; I understand that he may be busier now that he is with child. Still love the content.
Preston is doing a wonderful job!
I would never imagine that 18 minutes video about one specific pattern could be so exciting.
I probably am the only person requesting this but I really would like smoking jacket guide.
We have an article on smoking jackets. :)

Would also love to se a video on this
Video please
Did u get it?
Great stuff. Preston is breathing some excitement into the Gazette.
This guy is great and I love this channel!!! ❤

Excellent video. Very professional presentation and appearance.
Preston is pleasant and well spoken. I will look forward to further content.
Love Preston, he does a great job and he speaks clearly and is easy to listen to. Great video on houndstooth.
Great video. Houndstooth has become my favorite pattern in sport coats. Much more appealing to my eye than window pane or larger check patterns.
Please do not stop making videos !! They are awesome !!
Excellent & very informative video! Thanks for providing.
Gosh do I wish there was a girl version of this channel. I love this one even though the advice only goes so far for me.
Very nice video Preston! I really like your presentation. And the bow tie you wore in this video looked totally awesome! Would you or Raphael make a video about how to shine your shoes correctly? Have a greate day!
Robert Powers for full blown shoes videos, includes shining, polishing, stripping and recolouring, history, etc.
Yes, we will make an in depth series in the new year, stay tuned.
"Sink your teeth into"!! My favorite line!

Got mine for 9 dollars at a thrift store, incredibly lucky find
Awesome information! Loved the video.

Cracking video, very well presented. Keep up the impeccable content!
Thanks for da advice Preston 🤘🏼
OOOOO SSSVVVEEEENNNN!!
Great job, Preston. Very informative.
Very nice video Preston. You can already see a huge improvement from your first video. Keep it up!
I wore a houndstooth Footjoy golf windbreaker today. Love houndstooth and herringbone patterns
Beautiful ensemble Preston
Nothing is more "NY snob poet" than houndstooth, love it.
So amazing....this guy Presto is like second Rapheal :)
lol Presto
Man I have been waiting for this for years!!! These are my favorite videos
I love wearing Vintage Suits All Day, Everyday for my personal favorite style taste !
This channel deserves way more subscribers !
Just got myself a houndtooth tie today and went back to this video to know how to pair it... Only to see the same very Boggi tie! Good choice 🤣
Thanks! I can finally get some wear out of my old black trousers without feeling too ashamed)

Much appreciate, Preston. I now know more about this topic.
Great work, I really enjoy watching your videos. Hope to see more of you soon =)
Can you do a video on how to wear a pocket watch?

Excellent bow tie. Very cool! 😎
Great video man, keep up the good work.
great job! will use this info
Excellent education in proper menswear.

Yeah I would love to come and fix their light and camera settings, just to make my life better. Unfortunately I'm in Berlin.
Keep the good work Preston!
Great video!
I cannot afford these but I like to watch.
I love tweed and houndstooth

Houndstooth lives
I like those shoes with two buckles, Preston. I like them a lot.
they are called double monk straps
@@qarhsi Thank you!
Good tutorial
Cry havoc! and let slip the houndstooth of war! Seriouly, though some of those jackets were really handsome.
Very informative. Thanks!
Good job, Preston!
Exquisite video!
My boy Raphael is a total alpha!
You're my boy blue!!! You and Preston keep knocking their socks off and gettin' them to smash that like button! We takin over youtube boiiiiiiiii

Brilliant advice.
thanks for posting ... looking better each video I watch .... f.a.q. Why are you dressed up?? answer .. It makes me feel good to dress up.
I just got a pair of high waisted hounds tooth pants but I don’t know what to wear with them any suggestions?

Books by Allan Flusser.
Houndstooth is my favourite pattern
That jacket though seems 2 sizes larger or is it just me?
I'd say it needs to be nipped in at the waist a bit...
i think so too. it's too wide, too long. maybe more than 2 sizes lol
I agree, look at the shoulder and the coat waist. Not due to classic sack styling , just overall far too large, although the length of the jacket seems correct.
Get thee to a tailor !
I recently purchased an orphan vintage "shepherd's check" jacket, would it be good to pair it with pants with the same pattern?
Oh God, the pun really bites there. Nice presentation anyways as usual, Preston. I see you're already used to do videos now.
Preston impressed em
SPLENDID!
I love houndstooth most my trousers are houndstooth
I've just learned my Tweed is actually shepherd check
nice video, just wanted to ask if shirt should be plain with houndstooth jacket ?
Am I the only one that thinks Preston's clothes are a little bit too big?

I was thinking his coat was too big the whole video. Too long and it hangs off his shoulders
they are definitely too big. raphael wears classic fit too. i hate how raphael's pants are so wide. but, most times, his jackets fit him well. this dude is drowning in the clothes he is wearing. as tho a kid wearing his dad's clothes that are a few sizes too large and too wide.

Who the heck is this kid? 😳
😀 He's good. Needs a little marination to smoothen the edges. Very informative. Well done, lad.
The stain on the left front pocket of Prestin's houndstooth sport coat is courtesy of his Mississippi leg hound.😄
Thinking beige houndstooth jacket with cream chinos or trousers. A stripe shirt with a pocket square to compliment
2 things:

Help! I have a navy blue shirt with white houndstooth pattern on it, no idea how to combo it, can't bloody find anything online
Loved it.
Is there any chance of a video on tartan next?
Great video, did that jacket fit you properly Preston? It looked a bit generous.
i would say more than generous. and did you see the pant legs?
You'll also find tweed is still worn at many a shoot in the UK
Amazing Halloween costume Sven.
When did this guy become apart of GG?
Good addition.
I'm just curious, when we see a panned-out zoom, it seems the host carries himself unusually. I can't put my finger on it, anyone aware of any "disabilities"(if I may)?

The Moire edition.
Im going to make a drinking game with this video, take a drink every time he says "houndstooth"
Just here to see the hountstooth. I have many items in houndstooth. Even socks and an umbrella.
