The low impact of leveling up until right at the end is a problem all of the borderlands games have. Which is why the second playthrough is often much more enjoyable because you can actually try out different builds
I only ever made one character and will continue to at that the fact we can make our characters how we want is all I need

The idea of the BBEG being aware that they are in a game and trying to manipulate the players into helping him sever the DM’s connection to the world sounds awesome!
The most fun I've had in Borderlands was with the Zombie dlc in BL1 and the Assault on Dragon's Keep in BL2. I'll probably be picking this one up.
Looks like I will once again be waiting for the steam release and the inevitable dlc that makes the game actually good and varied
@@nrtwitty I don't really care about the drama but having all your games together just feels better. Also multiplayer has less issues in steam versions, Epic doesn't make multiplayer bad per se but for whatever reason leave more things to go wrong even if (IIRC) game uses gearbox for multiplayer.
I agree with the criticisms regarding leveling up. Borderlands needs to make leveling up feel more impactful. And each character/class needs like 3 actions skills instead of 1. Would vary the gameplay styles a bunch. They're great with gun variety and the story/writing is what it is they've found their niche, so that's fine. But there are ways for the series to evolve.
!!!!WARNING!!!! Do not get this game if you intend to do any split screen whatsoever. They have decided to cut down the UI during split screen to such an extent that you cant even tell if a gun is an SMG or Pistol, there is no flavour text saying what kinds of alternate fire there is or anything beyond damage/fire rate etc. spellbooks (grenades) are the same and only have core stats leaving you to have to inspect every individual item just to find out what it does beyond core stats. even class items....nothing, It is completely unplayable. Please upvote this for visibility as I and many others may only buy this on certain platforms because of split screen on the same machine.
In almost any borderlands review the conclusion is always the same. "it's just more borderlands."
To be honest it seems they found the niche they want to fill and stuck to it rather than make dramatic changes to the formula to attract new players.
I am fine with it as long as story and characters are fun. I hope they didn't mess up literally the best idea they had (Permanent tiny tina).
That Dragonlord sure sounds a lot like the Horse from Horsin' Around.

Would love a comparison to Borderlands 3. Which (for my taste) had too much cringy dialogue, a constant barrage of horrible attempts at being funny, and which had me just quit and never want to touch it again after about 4 hours in.
Is this more of the same as that, or more of a return to form to say, Tiny Tina's DnD playthrough in the Borderlands 2 dlc?
There was an adorable sea shanty and show stealing side quests, but how was the show? Was it well written? Was it off the rails humor? Was it a flop that you couldn't remember save one shanty and a few side characters?
I wholeheartedly believe that borderlands should have ended with 2 or the presequel. The guns and skills in Borderlands 3 don't feel as meaningful and there's no gun/skill combination that works better for each class. Also the guns in BL3 all feel way too similar.
Ugh, they specifically chose to get rid of talents that just give stat boosts in Borderlands 2. But now here they are again in all their lame glory.
Gonna skip this one. I liked 2, but as decent as 3 was, it disappointed me with how little it changed. This looks like it has the same issue. Gearbox really need to go all in on updating their formula to something more next-gen. It's way past stale.

Sounds... decent, if it were being offered at half that price, honestly. Assuming the DLC is good. And Pitchford doesn't go out of his way to remind us what a weird asshole he is.
Ah I kinda thought it would be a bit more different from borderlands like way more magic and swords way less guns than it looks like. If Elden ring wasn't a thing yet then yes but... Yeah no
If Elden Ring wasn't a thing I still wouldn't bother. It looks like a DLC for BL3 priced at $60 and $70 dollars.

I loved Borderlands 2, but 3 was such a turn off that I'm likely to wait for a sale. If it's poorly written nonsense like the last one, then I'll be uninstalling it before I'm even max level. The basic Borderlands loop is fine, but tedious early on since you don't get any of the fun game-changing skills or weapons until the end; AFTER you've experienced the game.
This is why I'm glad I didn't buy BL3. It really looks like it burned up a lot of gamers. At least for me all the features that came from BL3 that are now in this game will seem fresh to me, lol!
@@melodyseverything6999 what's sad is that gameplay wise, BL3 is by FAR the best in the series. They did a great job of continuing the trend from the Pre-Sequel of trimming fat from skill trees to give more skills that do things rather than just make things better, and the skills that do just increase numbers usually do so to a large degree in specific situations so that you can feel their impact more. The guns, even those of lower rarities, feel a lot more distinct, and the legendary variety is really good. All of it however is completely undermined by a terrible narrative filled with lost potential. Had just a few things been changed, it could have been fine, maybe even good. But what we got was awful. I can't speak for the DLCs cuz I haven't played through them. But it's just really disappointing that BL3 fixed so many problems the series had been plagued with only to mess up what they were already doing an OK job with. Just one monkey's paw after another.
@@TheProgenitor I played through the first 2 DLCs. They were fine; not amazing but certainly written better than the main. I didn't make it through the third and I uninstalled before the fourth even released. All my issues with the gameplay were minor and could've been overlooked if the main story wasn't so terrible.

I'm still not bored of the Borderlands grind, so this game is definitely something I'm interested in. I'm really hoping they put a decent amount of care into this game after release, they usually do with most of their games, just hoping that this isn't excluded from it. Excited to see what late game and future dlc will be like

Aside from the cover seemingly being a reference to 1981's 'Heavy Metal' movie, 3 minutes was about as long as this one held my interest.
Not being a Borderlands fan probably doesn't help.

So, this is the gaming equivalent of a tv show making a bad spin off with the main comedy relief character right? (Think Joey from Friends)
The original "Assault on Dragon Keep" DLC was a surprisingly nuanced story of a character coming to terms with grief through story telling (D&D), and is beloved by many for a reason.
Arguably Tina is a more nuanced character than Joey, and has more room for growth as a narative hook.
@@TotallySlapdash That DLC was in fact, a DLC. It was part of a bigger story that had context within that bigger story. It's why it worked. It was Jack Sparrow in Curse of the Black Pearl where he was a part of the movie that added to it. This new game is more like Jack Sparrow from On Stranger Tides (or arguably 2-3 even) where he became the focus and the heart was lost.
Tina as a character is not to relevant here. I'd say the game would work just as well if the whole thing was DM'd by a brand new character just for story context. Maybe would even be better because it wouldn't be relying on nostalgia and actually need effort put into it. It doesn't get passed the problem that this is an unnecessary spin-off that was created because people in a board room said, "What did people like about our previous stuff? Oh! That DLC with the crazy girl! That was well received."
Mind you I haven't played this game or seen much of it so it could be better than BL:2 for all I know.
Yeah, every since they revealed this game I've thought, "can Tina carry a whole game on her own". I have no intention of playing this until it's heavily discounted. I played BL3 and this just looks like more BL3 with a few tweaks, so it should have been DLC.
Yeah I'll wait till it's either 20 bucks or shoved into a bundle.
The beginning was mostly uninspired. Turning C4 into Fantasy-4 is the cleverest bit inn there.

I can't help but feel like this is to test an upcoming first person fantasy shooter... If this game does well, they'll do a Heretic/Hexen style looter shooter. Which would be awesome.

@@Proarchangel It's a standalone adventure however you're not going to have any context for who Tiny Tina is or why she's playing this game if you haven't at least played the second (which unlike this one IS something you can play without having the first) and its Tiny Tina-Assault On Dragons Keep DLC. BL2 is a pretty amazing game and well-worth getting, especially now that you can get it and all its content for a decent price.
I’ve been a diehard borderlands fan since 1, 3 burnt me bad and I was hoping this would make up for it. It did not, it’s a clear cash grab with missions that are literally copy pasted from old games. The over word hub is awful. This is a MASSIVE disappointment. Not to mention the many quality of life changes that they FIXED in 3 and then decided to revert (dedicated drops, respawning named enemies, skipping the tutorial on new play throughs) and having played elden ring so much recently, all the running back and forth fetch quests peppered with unfunny dialogue is jsut killing the game for me
So more like something that should have been $30 DLC for BL3 than a full $60 game. Disappointing.
Definitely looks like a cool spin-off. I just wonder when the new borderlands movie is coming out already? The casting looks amazing I think!
Personally i am done with snorerlands 2 cuz it was functional but boring and Snoreland 3 changed a big fat nothing and this just looks the same.
Hope they really knock it oit of the Park.

You can tell what type of a bubble that some of these reviewers are in when they don’t know the pricing. It’s $69 on PS5 and SeriesX&S, $59 on pc & last gen
