I can only imagine !!!!!!! I live in Lake Charles, La and was at most of the Mid South matches here back in the day !!!!! Hate i never went to a match n Houston but watched Houston wrestling early 70's on channel 11 which was ch 39 n Htown !!!!!
LOL! 😁 I remember every bit of this!! I'm born and raised in Dallas, so World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW) with guys like Kerry, Kevin, and David Von Erich, along with Bruiser Brody, the "Dynamic Duo" Gino Hernandez and "Gentlemen" Chris Adams, The "Fabulous Freebird's" Michael Hays, Terry Gordy, and Buddy Roberts, "Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin, "IceMan" King Parsons, and a few others, are what I watched and followed Back then! It wasn't anything like it is today, Back then, if you were a Wrestling fan, the only Wrestling you could watch and follow depended on the territory you were in! I lived in Dallas, so WCCW was the only Wrestling you saw on Dallas TV!💯 Every year, I'd always go spend the summer with my Grandparents down in Houston, so whenever I saw Mid South Wrestling, it was when I'd go down to Houston for the summer! WCCW was cool though, even if I wasn't in Dallas, and I was down in Houston, I could still keep up with WCCW, because during that time, WCCW was worldwide, and you could watch World Class Wrestling just about anywhere you went!!💯 Mid South Wrestling, and Paul Bosch's "Houston Wrestling" for a good little bit wasn't even close to my guy Fritz Von Erich & his Promotion, and didn't have the kind of talent that Fritz Von Erich and WCCW had at that time, but Mid-South was still fun to watch! Anyways....This match that Corny&Watts are cutting a promo about....Idk if this was in the summer time or not, and if it wasn't in the summertime when this match happened, then IDEK what the reason I was down in Houston for, but I do know that I WAS THERE at the "Sam Houston Coliseum" when this happened!!💯 If you knew what I looked like back then when I was a kid, you would see me, and my two Brothers sitting ringside second row corner, where the "Baby Faces" came to the ring! It's been so long, so I can't say that I remember everything vividly, but I do remember most of that night! If you're a Wrestling fan, and you haven't seen this match....Do yourself a favor and watch it! Everything that Bill Watts said he was gonna do to Corny after him and Stagger Lee (aka) JYD beat the "Midnight Express" is EXACTLY WHAT HE DID!!😅😅 If you do go and watch it, pay attention to the fans from the time Stagger Lee and Bill Watts get the 1-2-3, and also for the whole time they're putting the dress on Corny, and Corny, being the GENIUS HE IS....He played it up like the true professional!! The fans almost BLEW THE DAMN ROOF OFF the "Sam Houston Coliseum" and it stayed that way for a good 10mins at least!!!💯 Anyways.....I'm rambling, so I'll just leave it here, because once I start talking pro wrestling, I can on and on and on...... ✌out guys....
Cornette always talked about how Watts had a "mouthful of memories" (actually he was very close to erasing those memories by almost caving in his skull with the slapjack)--and Watts rebutted Cornette by saying he put away his scrapbook and then proceeds to talk about the time he beat "Sailor" Art Thomas for Texas championship 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Real wrestling. Why can't they treat it like a real sport today? It's just cheerleading routines everywhere. Most today can do shooting stars and moonsaults. But can't kick or throw a punch. It's baffling
Week 1: ua-cam.com/video/U0YXMhoDqpk/v-deo.html Week 2: ua-cam.com/video/mvY7zIX-ilU/v-deo.html Week 3: this clip Now wouldn’t you buy a ticket for this?
It's always interesting to watch old promos and hear the homophobic or racist stuff dudes would say to get over. Of course you can't say this in (current year) but I think that's because people aren't invested like they use to. Back then, people didn't know for sure it was scripted. We definitely know it is today and when it feels "more real" people are okay with to hear some over the line stuff. Like if MJF said some stuff similar to this in his own style he could get away with it imo.
If you want an example of just how invested people were in watching pro wrestling, watch the clip of when Ron Simmons won the world title. A crowd will not pop like that if they thought it was a performance. ua-cam.com/video/4Q6SvlVgn8w/v-deo.html
People back in the day didn’t get butt hurt over everything people said. We understood that words can’t hurt you. Today, everyone is a fucking crybaby, everyone is easily offended. That’s why the world and wrestling has gone to shit.
You’re right, it wouldn’t, because kayfabe is dead. The audience today would know they’re just merely watching a performance. Back then, it wasn’t just a suspension of disbelief, it was a real belief that what was happening was really happening. It’s impossible to understand unless you were there.
Back then professional wrestling was considered a "man" thing. Cornette was portrayed as a "mama's boy" and not a real man. I don't think it was a gay thing.
So much of this wouldn’t clear TV gate keepers today! 😂 But I love it!!!!
I was at this show and it was ELECTRIC!!!! When Watts pinned Eaton, the place EXPLODED!!! One of my most favorite wrestling memories.

Watts was channeling Dusty towards the end of his promo.
A big thing before electricity 😁😁
😂😂😂
Caddy shack reference?
Watts was so good at Promos #BELIEVABLE! Cornette is a gift from God!
"his hips are wider than his shoulders" 😂 I've gotta use that line
I MISS THESE DAYS! 😫
1:26 that line made someone chuckle in the background 😂.
Someone was ALWAYS giggling during Mid South promos! Look up the promos with Butch Reed & Earnie Ladd! 🤣
2:41 now THAT was an OG exit!
Great promo!
JR looks like a Russian nesting doll
cherub
Greatness
Jim Cornette is solid gold.
Yes that line about Watts being been great before electricity I think I would begin to use it miself.
Watts is a great promo. Simple yet effective.
Cornette was awesome.
Good old JR

But it wasn’t scripted. It is now.
They misspelled Cornette
This wouldn’t go well these days
You’re right, it wouldn’t, because kayfabe is dead. The audience today would know they’re just merely watching a performance.

What year was this?
1984
Is that JR?
Yup!
Naw..that’s Oklahoma!
😆🤣😂😹😆🤣😂😹
Bill watts not like gay men?
Straight boomers hate gays
