I am in Italy right now working on this process with ICA and I can't recommend them enough. They've been amazing. The process has been organized and fun.
You probably dont give a shit but does someone know a tool to get back into an instagram account? I was dumb forgot my account password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me!
This video has been so helpful. I'm an American citizen that came to Barcelona 2 months ago without a work visa and have had no luck finding a company that would hire under the table. I learned of my Italian citizenship eligibility a month before I arrived here, but didn't think about starting the process at the Chicago consulate because I wasn't going to be in the U.S. much longer. This video honestly gave me so much hope, as I was ready to leave Barcelona and head back to Chicago. Now I can gather my documents and stay with my friend in Ferrara during the length of the citizenship process. Thanks again for the info in this video!!!
How long do you have to stay in Italy for if you are applying there ? Is it possible to apply in Italy and go back to the states while the application is being processed for the meantime if we can’t stay in Italy the entire time ?
Ciao Marco and Rafi D! So, we do not have to return to the commune of the ancestor we are going through to receive the recognition? We can go to any commune to start the process of Jure Sanguinis? And at what point can we participate in the benefits like health care, and low cost university tuition? Also, when my children (who will be recognized along with me) have children of their own while here in the U.S., how will they go about registering them as Italian citizens? And by the way, I absolutely love this podcast!! Thank you both for providing this invaluable service. I am so proud to have Marco and The ICA represent me during this process! Grazie mille voi! -Joe
This was helpful, thank you. The consulates are booking really far out, so I think after COVID (here's hoping) I would like to apply from within Italy. One question not addressed that I wondered throughout the conversation is if it matters which comune you apply in? I know you recommended smaller ones, but if my grandfather is from Palmero should I apply there? Or can I simply apply wherever I choose to reside?
If I have all the documents and translations and apostilles done, how much would have to pay ICA to just meet me in Italy and help me through the final stages?
if my job in the US allows me to work remotely, does this count for the permission of stay since i am technically working? or would it not matter since I am not working in italy?
Greetings Marco & Rafael, thank you for y'alls expertise of this subject. I Need to know who to contact here in the USA, for what types of documents i need for my gf and my 1ggf, 1852 & 2ggf 1805, all from Catanzaro, Calabria, Italy . 3rd ggf 1783 born, not recorded on Ancestry.com. got this info. from my sister. I wood like to apply for dual citizenship in Italy. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you, Mr Joseph Torchia, San Antone, Texas

Ciao Marco and Rafi! Thank you for your very informative podcast. My son is going to be using ICA, but am trying to decide if he should apply in Italy or in the US. How long do you have to stay in Italy for if you are applying there ? Is it possible to apply in Italy and go back to the states while the application is being processed for the meantime if we can’t stay in Italy the entire time ? Also, if when your Italian-born mother became a US citizen, she was forced to renounce her Italian citizenship, but if you were a minor at the time she became a US citizen, would you still qualify?
And if my children are getting recognized along with me and I wanted to do it in Italy, are they required to come and stay with me in Italy, or can they stay in the U.S.?
Hi, I have a question. I am considering applying for Italian Citizenship in Italy. I have all required documents, apostilles, and translations. Is it more difficult or not advised to follow this process now due to the pandemic? I was considering going this Fall.
It's reassuring to know that I can apply for a residence permit as soon as I start the JS process. Do you know if my wife would be able to stay with me during the duration of the citizenship process too under the residency permit?
I work in the Uk remotly, so can be anywhere in the world really. I could do residency for a bit so i can apply at an Italian commune. Would this effect my tax?
I found out I do qualify for Italian citizenship by decent and am already an EU citizen with passport through my fathers birth in Ireland. I have started the process and have most documents and an appointment with the San Francisco consulate in August this year 2020. Would it be faster to go to Italy?
If you have a spouse who is applying for citizenship can you apply for a spousal visa so you can stay with them while they are waiting for the processing time? Thanks
In the U.S. there was a cost to NOT be a citizen (there was a debt obligation of around $400.) if one becomes an Italian citizen, is there a cost to denounce your citizenship at a later date?
I came to Italy to apply but they told me I can't establish residency without "opening a jure sanguinis case". To open a jure sanguinis case, you have to make an appointment, the earliest of which is September. This isn't even to apply, they said this is just to look over the documents and let me establish residency. Kind of a catch 22
In my situation, if I go to Italy to apply, during the process, I will be staying with my brother who lives in Italy with his family. In this case, will there be any consequences to my brother”s household status for tax purposes? For example, my brother says that if I stay with him for the period of my application process, the town will increase his household number and tax him accordingly. He says you pay for many town services according to household size, such as trash pickup, local taxes, etc.. can you shed some light on this? I would not want to cause my brother any unforeseen expenses and issues. Thank you.
I cannot imagine the process in Italy being a pleasant one. Flew into Milan six months prior to COVID. Flight arrived in Milan about 9am as usual. Went to get rental car and waited for almost 8 hours! They said they needed for people to return cars. The country is not know for having its sh!t together. I would think you need some guidance for the process.

Kristen Suzanne which town did u choose?
Are you living in Rovigo while you apply. I am coming to Italy to apply myself but unsure how to proceed

These guys have helped me so much on my journey to the motherland!
This podcast was very helpful! I'm Canadian, but still very useful information :)
Thank you sir !
Can I go to Italy, apply and then go back to the States while I wait for the citizenship approval?
Thank you so much for this podcast!
Very well done Rafael! 👍

From the research I have done, it seems that you can do this but you may have to come back to perform a task if you have not assigned a proxy.
Who wants to go back? Unless of course your employer needs you? I mean, really ?
A lot of questions answered. Thank you!
You mention applying at a smaller commune but not too small. Would Lucca or Gubbio be best?

Great video. Can you leave and re-enter Italy with the permit to stay given when you apply for citizenship?

Still need clarification on the 1948 rule. Prior to being born (my father) 1948 when my grandmother never naturalized 💕
This is a subject that we will definitely be touching on and devoting a whole episode to
Keep an eye out for it 😁

Go to a smaller town where they are not so busy. You can get an appt right away.
Very helpful

Just give your brother the money to cover the additional expense. Simple.
Once I’m recognized as a citizen, what’s the process for starting to work :)
I’m interested to do Jure Sanguinis in Italy. Can you tell me more about your services?
Hi Cesare, of course. Please contact us through the contact form on our website or give us a call! The number is on our website.
Can someone please help me locate a lawyer in Varese Liguria Italy to help me with my case.
After Covid this process went to hell. Nobody works at Italian Consulates offices in the US. What a joke.
Not exactly a cake walk with them is it?The word bypass comes to mind, Marco talks about it!
