      TwinGodesses I just cut off 8 inches. I will say after doing it myself and having to get it corrected, it’s better to have a professional do it that has experience cutting natural hair. It falls better than it ever has now.

    I don't Understand why some natural/curly girls get heat damage after just Flat ironing their hair once. That sucks! And others straighten their hair very often and get minimal to no heat damage.

    • @theesky
      @theesky 7 років тому +5

      Nia JK we produce the same general amount of oil. the difference is with straight hair, the oil goes down the hair shaft no problem, however with curly hair, it gets caught at the bends. which is why our hair will seem to take a longer time getting dirty/oily. it takes a longer time for the oil to go down that hair shaft.

      What's interesting to me about the heat damage talk that i see and hear about online and in real life is that if a person was wearing their hair always straight and when they wash it, it would look very similar to how her hair is. But it would be said the hair is "heat trained" because with the limp ends of hair when the person goes thru the process of straightening it it would be great for that style.
      However when the hair is like that and a person is wearing their hair kinky, curly its called "heat damage"
      So i guess its "damaged" when a person wants it curly/puffy but "trained" when its wanted to be straight. Interesting.
      No i am not dissing you it is just something that i really do notice

    • @king2.107
      @king2.107 8 років тому +2

      +kells y I agree. I'm a straight natural and do t really do the kinky styles and my hair is perfectly healthy. As with anything , it's not a "one size fits all." Do what works for you and be happy!!

    • @marlak4203
      @marlak4203 8 років тому

      King 2.10 Yeah as i thought about it from watching videos of women who keep their hair straight and from women who are natural and talk about heat damage i see the hair is the same but it just varies on how a person looks at it.
      If you want straight curly then you should just cut off the stingy, straight ends and go from there and 'not' look at it as heat 'damage' but maybe look at it as letting go of the straight ends or heat 'trained' ends.
      People have been able to keep their hair and go back to curly with Protein treatments. Maybe it doesn't work for everyone but its worth trying overall.

    Your hair looks so much better since you cut that heat damage off. I was never one to really straighten my hair even when I was relaxed, but when I did, I either straighten it myself or my twin sister Andrea would do it for me so that we could give each other a trim. I agree with you about letting other people do your hair and I have been there, lol. I am so grateful to God that my hair is growing and I know with a little TLC, it will get even longer. I think you natural ladies hair is gorgeous. I'm not African American, so I don't know anything about your hair type, but I wish I could experience having your ladies hair type. I just think it's so beautiful in its natural state. love it. I LOVE big hair, my bf teases me when I can get my hair into a really big, tall bun, my hair is naturally wavy/frizzy, so I have to not wash my hair for a few days and have A LOT, of hair spray and product in it. but I can get my hair pretty big when it's down, it's hit and miss. but I absolutely love big hair. the bigger the better! you're beautiful!

    Great job! I did that yesterday. I'm natural too but like a silly, got a flat iron three weeks ago, sweated it out and results.... straight ends! They had to go and it looks so much better. Like you, I don't think my hair likes heat at all! No blow drying, flat ironing or diffusing! New subbie. 😘

    Your hair is absolutely beautiful!!! It looks 1,000+% better than it did before you cut it. It's soooo pretty. You know there are 'so called' professionals that sell products that is supposed to help you with your heat damaged hair. That is false! The ONLY way anybody can get rid of heat damaged hair is to cut it off! There's no other way. You did the right thing by cutting all of that damaged hair off. To make your roots lay down all you have to do is put the products you style your hair with on it and it will lay down. Thanks for your video.

      tbh I think that's false cause I was doing a length check on a small piece of my hair and unfortunately got heat damage and it was bone straight when I washed it but its almost a year later and it's STILL reverting but it's almost back normal so if you can then I say wait it out but then again i would've cut it if it was all over my head😅

    • @Cindy99765
      @Cindy99765 8 років тому +1

      +Teaira Cole Maybe that's your case, but most people's hair doesn't revert at all. It's literally curly at the root, and straight at the ends, so..

    I never understood brides like its just one day to make anyone bend over backwards for that day when its just the bride and groom getting married. My bridesmaids loved me i told them pick out a dress in this color whatever you like they showed me I picked the one I loved the most. I told them whatever you want to wear as shoes just coordinate I had one bridesmaids with foot problems who asked not to wear heels I said of course. As my gift to them I paid for all the hair and make up on my wedding day. I told them do whatever you want and with whatever make up. Even with all that everyone still hated what their hair and make up when they complained i just told them you picked it out not my problem. I wouldn't make anyone sacrifice or change what their comfortable with for my day.

    it will grow back in no time girl!!! . I remember when I big chop I just came home one day set up my camera cause like you I WAS OVER IT and big chopped. over the 3_years I was scissor happy cutting 6-8 inches for no reason... now since I posted my update curly hair routine I'm growing it back out .. no more cutting let's see how far it grows. The last time I straightened my whole head was in November I didn't get any heat damage from that time but then I straighten my leave out in March and then again in May and I damaged my leave out which had just started to grow out from straightening it a lot in 2015 . I have decided that it's not worth it, I love my curls too much to damage them for a temporary style . I'm not gonna straighten my hair for at least 2 years. I'm at armpit Length almost to bra strap length so hopefully within those two years of no heat I can be to mid back 😊

    yessss to the max hydration method. I did it every day for 5 days--7 was a stretch for me bc I have to be at work early and I got tired of waking up early. now I'm doing it every 3 days. no more tangled roots! and I've been tool and heat free (no combs, brushes, flat irons, blow dryers etc.) all of 2016.

    OMG....I went through the same thing last year for my sister's wedding. The hair stylist burned all of my hair and my niece's hair. I had to grow most of it back and then got it cut in Jan of 2016. It was cut down to a small fro and it grew back in for months and it's still growing strong. But, thanks to that experience I'm weary of salon's that say they do natural hair. I only go for trims now

    I’m 53 and I have never had heat damage growing up when we used pressing combs and old school curling irons. I currently have heat damage from going to a local Dominican salon and having my hair roller set, under the dryer for ~ 45 minutes then hand blown dried and flat-ironed on 400 plus degrees heat. Never again.
