    Hario and Hiroia have been innovating in the coffee space since the release of the staple V60 brewer back in 1921. Now, Hiroia is aiming to bring their learnings from commercial automated pour over machines such as the Samantha, and bring that technology into a home setting. The Hikaru brewer, now live on Kickstarter, is the result. The Hikaru brewer takes the same consistency and pouring technology, but packages it in a VERY stylish and simple package for home users. Is it worth your consideration? Or does it get lost in the sea of other automated pour over machines. Let's find out!

    I always appreciate watching your reviews. However, could you provide a more specific definition of what you mean by "an above-average cup of coffee"? How would you compare it to coffee made with a Moccamaster or brewed manually using a V60?"

    • @LifestyleLab_
      @LifestyleLab_  8 місяців тому +1

      Very comparable to both a manual V60 or the Moccamaster. To try to compare them would be really splitting hairs. All three are just different ways of getting similar results. The Moccamaster obviously best for large batches, the Hikaru for V60 quality with better convenience, and a manual pour over still the king of value for money.
      Being able to achieve 19-20% extraction means it can meet SCA standards and is not the limiting factor. Instead, the grinder you choose to pair with it will be most important

    great review, I’m a huge iced V60 fan.. do you think this machine is great option for iced drip coffee?

    Do you, by chance, know if they've started to make European versions of the machine? I want to get it but I've been burned by a coffee startup (Spinn) that only had US versions available for years. And, if not, I'm wondering if you have any recommendations of something on the market that is similar in concept to this. Sadly we've had challenges with our Moccamaster One and my husband refuses to continue using it. :(

      Hello! Thank you for your interest in our Hikaru V60 smart brewer. We have a 220V-240V version for EU region! Our Kickstarter backers will be able to choose the voltage when we get their details through the survey once the campaign ends. 👍

    Does it preheat the water when you turn it on and select recipe? or you have to wair for it to heat up once you push the start button?

    • @LifestyleLab_
      @LifestyleLab_  8 місяців тому

      It only starts heating once you press start. I generally pressed start, then ground my coffee and put the brewer under. Still another 1-2mins until the brew started after that

    I think the xbloom is still far and away the one to beat in this home automated pourover market. I like that this machine lets you use your own grinder and can handle larger batches though.

      It's way too expensive imo

    In my opinion, brewing filter coffee using the V60 and the kettle is a great pleasure and ritual. Yes, it takes a lot of time. But if I want to speed it up, I use a ordinary 20 USD drip coffee maker. Yes, it has only one nozzle, it's not as nice, it doesn't have such design, it doesn't have such a backlight, it doesn't have Bluetooth, it doesn't have any application, there is no programming option, no profiles, but all this is not necessary. In my opinion, of course. It makes cofee not much worse than that made manually. Thanks for your video, greetings from Poland.

    419 dollars 🙈 that's so expensive. Especially when you compare it to regular Hario products which are excellent and very reasonably priced.

    • @LifestyleLab_
      @LifestyleLab_  8 місяців тому +2

      Yes, but regular Hario products are just glassware etc…. This is an automated device. AND you’re getting a glass V60 and carafe

      @@LifestyleLab_ I recommend buying the Hario dripper and server for $40 instead, and enjoy the time you pour water 🙂.
      I might be a bit bitter... The "coffee enthusiast scene" had gotten a bit crazy in my opinion. Everyone has so much stuff and accessories, and on top of that all those things are very expensive. I just don't like it anymore.
      I've put away all my espresso stuff and bought a Delonghi Dinamica that I use to make almost all my coffee.
      When I have a bit more time to make coffee I do a pour over with my V60 Decanter and I love the simplicity of it.
