  • Welcome back to another video! This time I have a sit-down, backyard conversation for you on the casual/PRN/per-diem nursing role that I've been in for a couple of years. PRN stands for "pro re neta", translating to "as the need arises". PRN nurses are nurses who are not employed full-time or part-time, but rather on an on-call basis. They help to fill unit needs (e.g. high season, nursing shortage, nurses on vacation, etc.) and are great for people wanting to set their own schedules. Any questions that arise can be left in the comments section below! Hope you enjoy xo
    Things Covered:
    Scheduling
    Deductions
    Premiums
    Sick Time/Vacation Time
    Mental Health
    Other Notable Pros/Cons
    Tips on making a decision
Other things I forgot to mention in the video:
Pro: You are most often the first to get floated to another unit if needed. Some might see this as a con, however, I see it as a pro because you can gain new experiences in different areas/specialties.
Con: If you’re trying to be a homeowner, look into the regulations and requirements you need as proof of consistent income.
