    I like these train MOCs, but I wish the designers would give more thought to the practicality of the design. Like how heavy it is, reducing unnecessary pieces, it's performance when actually being used etc etc. Thanks for the video. 👍

      @kexysbrickbuilts  10 місяців тому +1

      Yes, I'm right there with you. Unfortunately, this train is very heavy due to its construction, but of course it is also very stable. Unfortunately, the manufacturer's train wheels are also much worse than the originals from LEGO. Probably even the worst of the alternative manufacturers. The poor wheels are an additional reason why the train moves very poorly. I now have over 300 LEGO train wheels in stock (the old ones with metal axles) so that I can equip all my trains with them. This one also moves much better now.

    Thank you , great stuff.
    Question for you, I use double motors on 1 power unit with a single battery box (lego power functions versions ) and this works well and no problem without dual controls; I do this with many of my huge collection of trains; I use good quality rechargeable batteries that can take the load. Why have you gone for the 2 motors + 2 battery boxes in the 2 power cars, this makes it more difficult to control. You will either need a lego switch or you will need to reverse the connections in a lego motor to have 1 forward + 1 backward motor unit.
    One thing you need to look at is that you can get 50 captive ball bearings from Ali-express that fit perfectly on the axles, then fit into the axle blocks without any modification. This completely changes how the rolling stock runs, and I can easily run a 4 meter run of trucks (22 mixed freight train) and pull with a single engine at high speed.

    • @kexysbrickbuilts
      @kexysbrickbuilts  2 роки тому

      Hi Tom, thank you for your comment. To your questions: Normally I would also use a battery box with two engines, but the design of the front cars only allows the installation of one train motor. However, the control is unproblematic, as the two battery boxes can be controlled with one controller via the same channel (not an original Lego battery box). I already ordered ball bearings some time ago and these are at my home already, but I haven't had time to install them yet. I also ordered original Lego train wheels to ensure better rolling characteristics. I assume that the train will then run much better with two engines. The entire train, as mentioned in the video, is above average heavy, which additionally increases the rolling resistance. If I have everything built in, I will probably post an update video.

      Yes, the train is of course compatible with LEGO. But I'm afraid it can't be built entirely out of LEGO bricks, as some parts from LEGO don't come in the required color, for example the train wheel holder in dark bluish grey.

    Trying to decide between buying the Bluebrixx high speed trains (not sure which one yet) or the new Lego city passenger train, and just wanting an opinion. After building this set what would be your recommendation, and what is the pros and cons of bluebrixx trains vs Lego trains?

    • @kexysbrickbuilts
      @kexysbrickbuilts  2 роки тому +3

      Hi Matt, I'm afraid that will now be a little more text.
      First, the two BlueBrixx express trains are both really nice and you really get a lot of parts for your money.
      For comparison, LEGO Passenger Train (60337) 764 parts/$179.99 for half a train - BlueBrixx High Speed Train (grey/blue) 3076parts/about $138 (plus shipping from Germany) for an entire train.
      LEGO: Easy to Build and quick to set up (90 minutes) - The two passenger cars are similar in construction but have nice interiors.
      BB: interesting building techniques but also easy to build, longer build time (5 to 10 hours depending on skills) - All four passenger cars are built almost the same (it gets boring after the second one) except for some seats no interior.
      LEGO: Lightweight construction, two trains together can be operated with one motor.
      BB: Way too heavy - even two engines have to struggle hard to move the train (this is also due to the lower quality of the train wheels of BlueBrixx. I recommend replacing them with LEGO wheels)
      LEGO: The colors, especially the lime, take some time getting used to. Less suitable for reuse in other buildings.
      BB: Very good part dispenser, lots of bricks, plates and slopes in light bluish grey. The highlights are probably the motor bogie ornaments and the train wheel holders in dark bluish grey. These are very difficult to get and LEGO don't even have them.
      LEGO: No obvious design flaws
      BB: Unfortunately the motorized bogies are one plate higher than all other bogies. You don't really notice it, but if you look closely, you can see that the two driver's cabs (front/end car) are slightly higher at the front. I didn't notice this until much later, but it's still a bug.
      LEGO: Very easy to modify (make it taller, wider and longer, change color scheme - I'll show that in one of my next videos) and it should be definitely customized. The full potential has not been reached with the original.
      BB: Complex construction - changes cannot easily be made without changing the shape (although the train is visually beautiful and changes are not necessary)
      LEGO: It's a play set. There are minifigures, opening doors, it's solidly built and the quality of the bricks is very good (unfortunately a few color deviations in lime), the roofs can be easily removed. In addition, the set is motorized and you get the lighting with it.
      BB: Adult set, no minifigures, no opening doors, very stable but the quality of the bricks is worse than LEGO (a lot of plates are stacked on top of each other for the basic construction. This causes the plates bend upwards at the ends during construction - however, they will straighten again when the wagon is finished). I could not determine color deviations, but this model is not motorized (no motor, no battery box) and also not illuminated. If you contact me by email, I can send you the instructions for one of the BlueBrixx models. Just to take a peek.
      Personally, I think both the LEGO train and the two express trains from BB are really well done. But you get a lot more for your money at Bluebrixx. But you have to invest again if you want to run the trains from BB as well. If you only want to use it as a display model, you should definitely buy BB, but you need a really big display case.
      Just buy what looks better to you.
      I hope my explanations help you a little with your decision. If you have any questions, just write to me.
      Kind regards,
      KeXy

      I think it's a very nice train, but unfortunately it's also very heavy and you definitely have to use 2 engines. I'm afraid there's also a design flaw. The front bogies of the control units are one plate too high. It's not noticeable because of the length of the carriages, but the "nose" is slightly higher than the rest of the train. And you should definitely change the train wheels and metal axles into LEGO parts. The rolling resistance as significantly lower.
      You can register for free on the manufacturer's website "www.bluebrixx.com" and download all the building instructions for free. They have many many many different trains. It is best to look at the building instructions before and then decide for yourself. But to be honest I don't regret the purchase. You get a lot of parts for a good price.
