    To explain why you don't get any advertisements, fraud or spam calls in Germany. It is legally forbidden by law to make such calls over the phone, so advertising, fraud and spam calls are tracked via phone tracking and saving the connection number and are very heavily penalized. That's why you don't get such calls in Germany!

    The same "drive right side" rule also exists in US traffic, just nobody follows it.

    Actually, in Germany it is possible to turn right at traffic lights even if they are red, but only if there is a green arrow pointing right attached to the traffic lights. This is an old East German thing, which has only been very half heartedly addapted in the West. I only know of a handful in my area. In this case you are allowed to proceed to the stop line - you have to stop - and can then turn right after checking that no one is coming.

    Scam calls are illegal in Germany. Should you ever get one, you can report the number to the authorities and they will be fined.

      Scams are usually illegal :) You still get those in Germany (although not frequently), and I assume that it will be hard to fine scammers in foreign countries.

    In Germany you have a right-hand drive requirement, which means on a highway or interstate with multiple lanes you have to drive on the right hand side with the guideline speed until you need to pass another car. Usually after passing the car you should always go back to the right lane. In the city on a road with multiple lanes you can pass also on the right hand side if it's possible, but you have to be careful with pedestrians, children, parked or stopping cars like Taxis etc.,
    I have no idea how extensive the driving in the US is, here in Germany the subject matter is quite large in theory and practice.

    5:15 Funny thing is that overtaking on the right is actually prohibited in Texas (and most other states in the US) as well.

    In my experience, it's mostly call centers from abroad that harass you by calling your landline. Since I have blocked international calls, I hardly get any spam calls. And I don't really get any on my mobile phone.
    But I can well imagine that it is more in America, since English is the more popular language. For example, I don't think many Indian call centers speak German. English, on the other hand ...

    • @TrueCyprien
      @TrueCyprien 2 роки тому +3

      The indian callcenters do seem to call germans regardless. My grandmother actually got called by one recently. They tried the whole "we are microsoft support, we detected an error on your windows computer" scheme on her. In english... Which made it fairly obvious that it was a scam. Especially since my grandma doesn't even understand english :D

    The cell alert system the US uses for emergency messages to phones hasn't been used until this year. In Germany it was usually a system of sirens all over town or in a central location that alerts people to dangerous situations and people are supposed to get inside and turn on the local radio station to find out more Informations. In the last years there is also a federal emergency smartphone app called NINA that you can use. You'll probably start to see the US type of cell notifications sometime soon as they are implemented now after the big floods with slow responces and warnings we got in the last years

    Flash the light at people on the left lane is also illegal its considered dangerous driving..if the police sees you doing it you get atleast a fine.

    • @Str4vv
      @Str4vv 2 роки тому

      STVO says it´s completely fine to announce an overtake by flashing the lights as long as you don´t harass or blind people.
      But it is taken as quite rude, especially cuz people do think it´s forbidden. I wouldn´t do it either.

    Great video, you're offering such an interesting perspective! Having lived in both cultures myself, I can definitely relate to most of your observations.
    @AshleyVering I'm curious, what made you decide to move back to the US?

    • @AshleyVering

      We don’t have a choice as my husband is in the military! We will be doing everything in our power to be back as soon as we can though!

    Our big cargo trucks are called 40 Tonner (for the total amount of 40 tons of truck weight and cargo weight).

    • @abalada
      @abalada 2 роки тому +1

      And that's actually more than the 80,000 lb (36 metric tons) total for any vehicle or combination allowed on the US Interstate Highway System. For those trucks (18 wheelers) there is however no length or height limit, only the maximum width is limited to 8.5 ft (2.6 m).

    Where I live in NRW you can actually turn right, but only where indicated by a separate right-turn traffic light.
    Spam calls are definitely a thing here, I usually just block them. I once got spam calls from two separate numbers with different area codes, but both working for the same service provider. I never picked up, so they would call almost every day up to 7 times a day at varying hours. I got so sick of it, I decided to play a little trick on them. My phone allows me to divert incoming calls to a different number, so I just diverted the calls coming in from these two companies to each other 😆. I would love to have seen their faces when it wasn’t me picking up but some other company selling the same online services 😂. At least that stopped those callers, though!

      Small addition: It doesn't need to be an actual traffic light. Also, there might be a small sign with a green arrow pointing right, to shows that turning right here is allowed even if the main traffic lights are red.

    Spam calls are often done by computers. You can tell because if you take the call there will be a short pause before you are connected to some real person.

    Hi =)
    • Just one thing i need to correct you
    *>> You are allowed in Germany to drive left, even traffic lights are red... IF the special small sign with a green Arrow is in place!*
    If there is not such a sign, people/bikers crossing/using the street, may in danger. ;)
    And another differents is, that traffic lights are off in deep night in most areas not used as main streets/roads, when no pedestrians are most likely walking arround. _Which saves energy/tax money & cars drive in all directions if free._
    *>> smt not comon in the US ;)*
    Cheers

    To americans driving wherever they want blocking all others, I think Louis CK described it the best, this a most visible manifestation of Americans feeling entitled to do whatever they want because it's what they want and like and everybody else has to respect that. This is a concept that would not survive in Europe because needs of one are really not that important here. There are of course those would love to be that important, lately especially kids with too liberal parents, I personally know few of them, but the society as a whole has no time to deal with them so these people are usually met with anger and disrespect of others. Europe is more about society than individualism.
